NFL 2010-2011 Season Discussion Thread

I'm hoping that Mangini and Rob Ryan return while Brian Daboll is let go, as the former has been unable to make adjustments to his playcalling in the second half all season long to lead to a lot of deflated second halves where the other team has figured out how to stop them during halftime.
Just a few more days that Vick can get rusty.....because I need him to have a SHITTY game!
I don't think so ... Vick is playing for an MVP, first round bye, and a contract. He's still in debt
Vikings just hope the season is over already

I really don't think Vick is in the running for the MVP. Brady is going to (and should) win in a landslide.

49ers officially shut out of playoff contention with today's loss. I had a feeling it wasn't going to be pretty when my first "motherfucking Nate Clements" came early in the first quarter.

I really hope they get a GM in there between York and whoever the head coach is during the off-season. Singletary hit Childress territory with the way this loss went down and the only thing York has going for him is DeBartolo blood and that's doing nothing for him.

The funniest thing isn't even DeSean, it's the ref stopping on a fucking dime, lol. Watch him.

49ers fired Singletary and put the d-line coach Jim Tomsula as the head coach. Don't see a reason for this with one week left but maybe they want to get a head start in looking for a GM and a new coach.

I'm noticing a trend with NFL teams that don't have a GM position...

Interesting that they dumped Sing the second the season was lost. It was an eventuality, but I did not expect it to be so immediate. I'm still hoping York finally hires a GM because anything beyond owning the team he's useless.

Dang, and here I was hoping they'd have another epic January collapse. Oh well.
Norv Turner needs to be sent back to eternal offensive coordinator hell. Dude hasn't had a steady season anywhere that I can remember as a head coach.

McNabb may ask to be released at the end of the season. I think he has a couple years left in him, at least. I wonder where he will end up.

Singletary being fired is no surprise. This season has been complete frustration for us 49er fans.

Why oh why do I envision McNabb going to the Vikings..... why?

If Childress was still around maybe but otherwise I highly doubt it.
aints just like the jets fluke by another one
I loved how the commentary were gushing over Brees's first lateral pass to prevent the sack then he does it again (second time was more of a lob though) and it gets intercepted for a TD. For some reason the first one was him being a brilliant quaterback but the second one was met with silence...

Both were stupid moves of him panicking and trying to avoid the sack (see also the intentional grounding in the end zone which the officials failed to call). All in all it was your typical Saints game, they got lucky in a lot of situations that should have gone the other way.
aints just like the jets fluke by another one
Very insightful comment. Fan of the Falcons? Patriots? Steelers? Ravens? Eagles? If you're not, you really shouldn't be talking about flukes.

If you need a stat to point to as to why the Patriots are the Super Bowl favorites, it should be this one: Their +27 turnover differential is almost twice as large as the next highest in the NFL (+14 by the Eagles and Steelers). I can't find stats on the NFL record, but that has to be up there. If that trend continues in the playoffs, they're going to be a tough out to say the least.

This season was horrible for the 49ers. We were supposed to be a 10 win team. The sad thing is, the only thing that's really missing is a QB.

Alex Smith will hopefully not get re-signed. I like Troy Smith as a backup, but we really need a good, starting QB. McNabb might work, but I think the Redskins would ask too much for him. I don't want to give up draft picks for a stop-gap QB.

The niners need to draft a decent QB, but there's a severe lack of QB's available in the draft this year. Andrew Luck will be taken if he enters the draft, which leaves Ryan Mallet, Jake Locker, and Cam Newton. I don't like Cam Newton and I think Ryan Mallet would fit in best. I just hope they don't screw this up.

49ers were missing a QB, DB, offensive coordinator and coaches this year.

Niners are missing a lot. Terrible team. If they were in any other division they would have the number one pick for the draft.

fucking Singletary. "The offense is too complex for (Troy Smith, Westbrook, etc) to play in right now" Really? fucking run up the gut twice then pass then punt style offense. fucking joke of a season.

He tried to say the offense was to complex for Brian Westbrook? Who was the top RB for one for what is considered one of the more complicated offenses out there? (Eagles)

He said he wasn't comfortable with his blocking because he missed some training camp in the beginning of the year and was more comfortable with Gore out there. So Gore pretty much played every down with Westbrook getting like only 8 plays of action in total until Gore got hurt. You'd pretty much forget Westbrook was on the team until you saw him go in for a play every three or four games.

there should be several QBs out there that will be decent as hold overs for the next 2-3 years while the 49ers groom a new QB.

McNabb, Orton, Kolb, Palmer, Young could all be available next year.

Last thing the 49ers need is to draft another unproven young QB, fuck THAT!

I liked Troy smith at times, maybe he can shape up after a full traininig camp as the teams starting QB, I would be content with going after a available QB like RAMSTORIA stated.

Alex Smith just needs to get deported out of the country.:bomb:

I think the Niners pickup McNabb and he'll mentor a draft pick. McNabb is done like dinner. I mean...Rex Grossman is better than him. REX GROSSMAN.

You know what i mean Ram. Niner's don't need to get back to ground zero with there QB position.

Much rather have a QB with some NFL experience.

Tuesday night football! Vick looks terrible and it's hilarious. I hope the Vikings win this. And if Carolina can beat the Falcons, Bears get #1 seed! /notachance
arent all QBs unproven coming out of the draft?
It really, really is a crapshoot isn't it? Not only that, you gotta think Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco really ruined the curve for rookie quarterbacks.

Then again, this year's class of RBs haven't made much of an impact have they?
mvp!
Not that any rational person thought he had any realistic chance of winning the award, but tonight's performance will pretty much put any such talk to bed.

I had Vick and Jackson in my fantasy championship, but I was way down already. In a way I'm glad they didn't make it interesting, since had they come close I would have spent the offseason torturing myself for starting Kitna over Cutler as my 2nd QB in the final. Turns out it wouldn't have mattered.

On another note: I'm psyched as hell that Devin McCourty made the Pro Bowl. In any season where there was no Suh, he'd be the runaway DROY, and the vote should probably be closer than it will end up being.

Also, how is it possible that Brandon Meriweather made another Pro Bowl? Speaking as a Pats fan, I don't know a single other fan of the team who thinks Meriweather is anywhere near worthy of being in. Dude's a part-time player at this point who's mediocre in coverage and takes terrible angles to everything. I can only hope some team is going to trade the world for him because all they look at is "two-time pro bowler". Paging Al Davis.

I'm surprised that both Peyton Hillis and Joe Haden got snubbed, though I could see Hillis' fumbles negating his impact of the Browns' offense this year and Joe Haden's done amazingly well for a DB that's only started four or five games this year and has also been lights out in punt return coverage.
Joe Haden's done amazingly well for a DB that's only started four or five games this year and has also been lights out in punt return coverage.
Who would you put him in over though? No way he's been close to as good as McCourty, and obviously Revis and Asomugha were going.
You know what i mean Ram. Niner's don't need to get back to ground zero with there QB position.

Yeah I was just being a smart ass.

Like I said, the 49ers need to go after a QB this year to mentor a draft pick for the next couple of years. They have some nice pieces on offense and a QB like McNabb or Orton would probably be enough to win the shitty NFC West. But to get far in the playoffs they need a franchise QB and a better secondary (among other things, but those 2 are the biggest concerns right now).
Who would you put him in over though? No way he's been close to as good as McCourty, and obviously Revis and Asomugha were going.
Over McCourty easily.

Was also reminded that Lawrence Vickers and Reggie Hodges were snubbed, though the latter wasn't even named as an alternate.

CJ2K huge snub, how do you not get in being 3rd in yards and TD's over all running backs. And he put up those numbers with a huge target on his back. The Titans QB's were doing nothing and neither were the receivers save for Kenny Britt in one game.
Over McCourty easily.
Based on what exactly? That he was drafted higher?

Don't get me wrong, Haden's had a great rookie season (I didn't even realize how good until I looked at his stats, some of which are similar to McCourty's but none of them better) and is going to be a star in this league, but to say he "easily" should get in over McCourty is ridiculous.
Over McCourty easily.

Good call on Hodges.. he's been the best punter by far this year. Doesn't he have a long running streak of punts inside the 20 without a touchback as well?

Stats aren't everything when it comes to actually playing vs fantasy leagues and popularity contests. On the flip side, I'm glad Joe Thomas doesn't get snubbed for being on the Browns and some downright ugly offenses.

Rumblings about Wade Phillips going to Houston as a DC. I prefer Phillips focusing on defense, but damn this would be one hell of a project for him. Enjoy fixing the worst pass defense in the league, Wade (or whoever is crazy enough to take on that task).
Nice to see the Raider's finish up the season strong with a win and finish .500.

However, looks like Al Davis is going to fire Tom Cable, so next year will probably be a step back with yet another coaching transition. I'm not a big fan of cable, but you can't build a team up if you keep changing coaches so damn often!.

Yeah, I hope the Raiders can make it to playoff contention next year.

I see the Falcons and the Saints in the NFC Championship, and Kansas City and the Jets in the AFC. x:
I think the Niners pickup McNabb and he'll mentor a draft pick. McNabb is done like dinner. I mean...Rex Grossman is better than him. REX GROSSMAN.
I'm still mad they didn't pick up Micheal Vick.

You know what I thought was great today, the Lions pulling off another upset over the Vikings. Granted the Vikings have been a dead team for a bit now, but the Lions really pulled it together late. Next year maybe finishing up with 8-8, assuming they can keep from using their 3rd string QB haha.

Predictions?

AFC:

Colts (3) over Jets (6)
Ravens (5) over Chiefs (4)

Patriots (1) over Ravens (5)
Steelers (2) over Colts (3)

Patriots (1) over Steelers (2)

NFC:

Packers (6) over Eagles (3)
Saints (5) over Seahawks (4)

Falcons (1) over Packers (6)
Saints (5) over Bears (2)

Falcons (1) over Saints (2)

Super Bowl:

Falcons over Patriots

I pretty much see the AFC shaping up the same way. Colts could upset the Steelers, but ultimately, I see the Pats in the Super Bowl.

NFC, I see the Eagles playing the Falcons, Eagles winning.

Super Bowl, call me crazy, but I'm picking the Eagles to win it all. I know Eagles always tend to choke somewhere in the playoffs, and perhaps I've drank way too much Vick Juice this season (I had him in my championship winning fantasy football team), but I believe this is the year for them.

I'll copy your AFC predictions verbatim:

AFC:

Colts (3) over Jets (6)
Ravens (5) over Chiefs (4)

Patriots (1) over Ravens (5)
Steelers (2) over Colts (3)

Patriots (1) over Steelers (2)

NFC:

Eagles (3) over Packers (6)
Saints (5) over Seahawks (4)

Falcons (1) over Saints (5)
Eagles (3) over Bears (2)

Eagles (3) over Falcons (1)

Super Bowl:

Patriots over Eagles

I'll go with the best team (it's not even that close at this point) playing the best football. The Pats joined some pretty elite company posting a +200 point differential on the season, made even more remarkable by the fact that they were at +31 through 8 games. Their much-maligned defense managed to finish up the season 8th in scoring and their +27 turnover differential is more than twice as good as the next closest team (Atlanta). Obviously 2007 proved that anything can happen, but to say the Pats are prohibitive favorites is an understatement.
