NFL 2010-2011 Season Discussion Thread
It actually was a horseshit spot, but challenging it was still stupid when he was going for it anyway (especially since they picked it up)
I couldn't agree more with everything you said. It was an awful spot, it sure didn't look like Sanchez's knee hit, and even with that they still would've missed it by a bit, and the challenge was dumb from every angle conceivable.
After dominating both the Steelers and Jets D, I guess you can call the Pats the best team.
And my Browns trap gamed the HELL out of them. :applause:

Wow...I felt bad for the Jet's fans. That was brutal.

Yep.. That game was a thing of beauty. Its funny because Foxsports mentioned Mangini was on the hot seat but I think they should give him another year.
Of all the long-suffering fanbases in sports, the Jets fans are definitely the one I feel least bad for. But then, I'm from Boston. :D

The Patriots are now in exceedingly good shape to be the #1 seed. Their remaining schedule isn't easy (@Chicago, Green Bay, @Buffalo, Miami) but the toughest game of the stretch (GB) is at home. That's probably 3-1 at worst, but they'll be big favorites in all of those games. They're also helped immensely by holding wins over the Steelers and Ravens already. Despite tonight's result, the Jets catching them in the division is more of a threat, though they still have to travel to Chicago AND Pittsburgh.
Yep.. That game was a thing of beauty. Its funny because Foxsports mentioned Mangini was on the hot seat but I think they should give him another year.
Whoever said that he's on the hot seat is a complete idiot since he's turned the team around into a very tight and competitive team with a lot of promise for the future. I would be completely surprised, and very disappointed, if Mangini isn't the coach going into the 2011 season.
McD has been relieved of his head coaching duties.

Now, let's see who they bring in.

I'm wondering if this means we'll see Tebow start, they've got nothing to lose at this point.
Good, both he and the GM should be gone for throwing away most of the quality talent for magic beans.

Of all the bad things about Denver's current team, the passing game is their only strength since Kyle Orton has a good handle of the offense despite lacking a running game for most of the year. Benching Kyle Orton would just be sending the wrong message to the players that quitting is okay and playing well doesn't mean anything.

The Jets have mostly beaten losing teams so far (the exception to that being the Patriots in Week 2). They lost to the Ravens and Green Bay. I knew they would end up losing to the Patriots this time, but i didn't know it would be by this much. The Jets have a pretty tough schedule ahead of them as well as they face Miami, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. Hopefully they can make the playoffs this year.

Agreed. I think he is doing a good job and actually building a good young football team. I know there are a ton of worst to first teams now so people want results but I think the Browns will be good very soon.

The Patriots have beaten the Ravens, Steelers, Colts, Chargers, and Jets. Those are all playoff caliber teams, I don't think they'll have much trouble with the Bears or Packers.

I could easily see one or both of these teams just opening up a can on the Pats if they need to, and they WILL need to because the NFC North is awfully tight, and because of the NFC South, whichever of those teams doesn't finish well won't make the playoffs, despite probably winning 10 games.

You make that sound pretty easy.
You make that sound pretty easy.
I do, but we all know that the Pats defense is NOT as strong as they made it look last night, and the Pack and Bears have suddenly explosive offenses (that can suddenly be inept for no reason, this I also realize). The weather and home field shouldn't really benefit anyone since these are cold weather teams. The Pats play IN Chicago and then the Pack play them in Foxboro on Sunday night. I can definitely see the Pats splitting the pair between these 2 games, I just don't know whose offense will go bananas and end up getting the win.

No one thinks the Patriots have a strong defense, though I don't think anyone can doubt that they're improving, especially considering how young they are. Even if both of those teams put up a lot of points on the Pats (something they're certainly capable of doing) I don't see any evidence that the Pats will have any trouble scoring. They've blown the doors off the Steelers and Jets, who have defenses just as good or better than what Chicago and Green Bay have. Bottom line is that the Pats are a better team than both of those teams (I still think despite the records that Green Bay is the better of the two), and while it wouldn't surprise me if they split the games to suggest that beating the Pats is as simple as "opening up a can" is just silly.

LOL Jets, AM I RIGHT?

Seriously, being blown out by that much, by any team, at this point in the season should have jets fans really worried.

Didn't see it happening like that.

And it appears Alex smith back at starting QB next game for the Niners?. Can we just....pack it in and call it a season at this point?:whistle2:(

Edit: Niners play seahawks this weekend. And Saints play the Rams.....Hmmm... we could still be 1 game behind by next week :whistle2:#

Valid. I'll rescind my 'opening up a can' statement and instead insert 'might pull off a win of monumental importance.'

I saw a sign in the crowd on MNF that said something to the effect of "the Jets hype ends now." I have said it before and I'll say it again, I do not get how all the "analysts" were picking the Jets as the best team in the league for so long. They've kept a pretty decent record but most of their games have been very close, sometimes coming down to a field goal.

People say the NFL is a copycat league but it really goes for the NFL analysts.

The Pats defense gives up a lot of yards and I still have concerns about the pass rush and 3rd downs, but they also force turnovers and they're getting better every week. Youngest defense in the league I believe.

I could see a let down against the Bears with the short week and following such a big game, but I think the Packers are the tougher team to beat. I could see them splitting those two games. But does anyone really think the Jets will go into Pittsburgh and go into Chicago and win both games? I see them both going 3-1.

Whoever thought of the idea to have dramatic music between every play needs to be fired right now. Holy fuck it's the worst idea since the glowing puck.

i just came in here to post about this.

ive only noticed it at the 49ers/seahawks game. is it a fox thing this week? or just a couple games to test it?

Glowing puck would have succeeded with better technology.
Glowing puck would have succeeded with better technology.
Yeah, it would've been even gayer. You don't follow the puck when you watch hockey, you follow the play. You can understand where the puck is at all times without ever having seen it.

I guess the Jets can feel better about getting embarrassed like that? If they win today, anyway.

Yup, and next week the Seahawks play Atlanta, can very easily lose that one.

Rams play Kansas City, if Cassel is back I'm fairly sure KC will win that one.

Then the Niners play the charges, a winnable game, but also losable.

Then we play the Cardinals and Rams.

Looking good!
Yeah, it would've been even gayer. You don't follow the puck when you watch hockey, you follow the play. You can understand where the puck is at all times without ever having seen it.
It was for bringing in the casual fan and fans in the pre-HD, rabbit ears with snow era. Most casual fans really couldn't see it or understand "following the play" as no other sport is like that.

Of course with HD, that doesn't matter anymore because everything in any sport is easier to see. I'm just saying better tech would have made it work better. Whether it was "gay" or offended purists isn't what I am referring too. The tech simply didn't work as well as it could have.

The only really, truly stupid idea I have seen in sports in the last twenty was when David Stern force a switch to synthetic balls with no input from players. That actually affected athlete performance. Maybe I'd throw Car Of Tomorrow in there too.

The Jets seem to have lost their swagger. They probably are in good enough position to still back their way into the playoffs, but they're not going to do anything there.

Well, New England is the first team to have a playoff spot and probably a lock for the #1 seed in the AFC.

It going to be hard for any team to go in and beat them at home.

The Patriots haven't played this well since early 2007 when they were just steamrolling anyone. But that team struggled down the stretch to put people away, and of course we all know how it ended up. I think if Brady continues to play the way he is now, nobody's going to beat them or come close.

The only team I see right now that maybe able to match them point for point would be New Orleans, but they are the NFC. So that wouldn't happen unless both get to the Super Bowl.

Saints might not even make the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl.

And come on NFC West, I wanna see a team enter the playoffs with a sub .500 win percentage enter the playoffs! I know you can do it Rams or Seahawks, I (don't?) believe in you!
Saints might not even make the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl.
They've won 6 in a row and have a 2 game lead in the WC race. They definitely have a tough closing schedule, but they're peaking at the right time.

Maybe they're just playing a little easy because they know they have a Playoff spot? Of course, it could be that Mark Sanchez is not nearly as good as people think he is.

I think everyone in the country who is not a Jets fan thinks that Sanchez is a pretty awful NFL QB, which is exactly what he is. So I'd say he's meeting expectations.

Nice to hear from somebody who isn't blinded by the Jets' record. Good record for sure, even after this weak loss to Miami, but Sanchez has no accuracy. Personally, I consider Matt Ryan the best young QB in the league.

Watching the Jets today was horrible. How do you hold your opponent to 131 total yards and lose the game? This team has no offense. I agree on Sanchez being awful and I like him too. He sucks especially when he doesn't play in nice SoCal-like weather. He's inconsistent and most of the time inaccurate. I don't want to think how much better the Jets can be if only they had a decent QB. I know there's still time left in the season but it doesn't look good if Sanchez continues to suck. I had more fun watching a basketball game than a football game today and I'm a Knicks fan.

I agree, that was stupid. In the World Cup they introduced a plastic soccer ball designed to be slippery and to change direction in flight, behaving nothing like a real soccer ball. But FIFA never cared about the integrity of the game anyway, not that I like soccer.

The Foxtrax thing wasn't just highlighting the puck, they gave it a trail and it would have a flaming streak if anyone shot it hard enough. They turned their broadcasts into NBA Jam and everyone hated it. TBS started doing that in baseball for pitches and it looks stupid.

Don't know what these experts were talking about when they said the bad weather would favor the Bears. Did they not see Brady throw 6 TD's during a snowstorm in a 59-0 mugging last year?

Such a great facial expression by the most annoying fan in the NFL.

Grrr. Just saw on the TV schedule, my area isn't showing any 1pm NFC games next Sunday. So no Eagles/Giants.

We get Jags/Indy but nothing else. What a rip.

Exactly on the Sanchez part. He's the typical USC QB, has all the fanfare cause of the college he played at. It feels great that the media and fans are finall shutting the hell up over the consistently overrated jets. It seemed like every media outlet picks them so high early on so they can get ratings for showcasing the big market teams, then they get more coverage later on when they cover the "collapse" of the same team. All in the meantime a team like the falcons basically has no attention dealt their way (I'm a pittsburgh fan BTW).

Disappointing loss for the Raiders. They came out strong, but the defense crumbled against the second half adjustments and just couldn't defend the deep ball worth a damn. If they would have won this one, they would have had been primed to steal the division because the Chiefs got spanked by the Chargers. Now they're just hoping to keep the foot in the door for the playoffs.

Speaking of playoffs (PLAYOFFS?), one step closer to having a sub-.500 team get a playoff bye while a 10+ win team has to fight through the wild card.

No sub-.500 team is getting a playoff bye.. You mean a home game, right?

a sub 500 team is one and done so it doesn't really matter, the wild card teams have only themselves to blame for not winning the division
