Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread

.....

So anyone got anything to do that will take up an hour? Maybe discuss something?

Let's talk about foreign money markets and their impact upon transitional inelastic goods and services, and also factor in how this might affect growing future markets liWHY IN THE HELL IS THIS SO SLOW

I suppose the fact my internet connection is intermittent (on and off every minute) is not so bad. Still, no eShop yet is disheartening. I wonder if whatever comes tomorrow will make up for this. I don't have anything that interests me in the store yet, but I'm thirsty for anything 3DS. Another CAG said it right, our desperation knows no bounds.

I guess I'll be at a library tomorrow so I don't miss out on the keynote. Anyone know if the AT&T hotspots are open for the 3DS yet?

done, how the hell do you d/l the free game?

ooh, you can link your nintendo club account to the eshop

error code:007-2503
error code:007-2500
when trying to get excite bike from the eshop, must be busy

The progress bar isnt moving too shabbily given the rush I assume it is getting... Maybe 10 minutes total? I'm curious as to the size of the firmware.
6:45 PST is the rumored time the update goes live
I originally read 9:45, I assumed that was for the East Coast so I said the time above for my coast. I guess it was West Coast time all along.

pokedex is sweet. Everybody getting different 16 pokemon? I see there are QR codes associated with each pokemon, any way to trade them like the QR Mii codes? I don't see a way to export them yet (probably intentional).

I am torn. I really want to try Excitebike in 3D but I hate the idea of losing Ridge Racer (does it ALWAYS crash? or just sometimes? it's pretty much the only 3DS game I play although I did get DoA finally..) and the OK Go video. Do we at least get a new 3d video as part of this firmware? (you know, to make it take even longer to download ;) )

Do you get the coins right away? Or can you save it for next year

The update was super-fast for me about an hour ago - took no more than a minute or two.

Then I had errors getting into the shop but just now I got in and downloaded Excitebike and the Pokedex thing. Both of those took no more than a minute. The store is very slick and well put together.

The Pokemon thing looks cool since I really haven't had much 3D content (just Miis and Face Raiders mostly). I don't really care about Pokemon, but it will be another fun thing to mess around with via StreetPass at least.

I haven't tried Excitebike. I detest the original game though - thought it was utter garbage and don't understand the love it gets. But at least now I have a real game ;).

I'm really, really surprised there wasn't a killer app 3DS Ware game available for purchase right off the bat. Given that everything on there is Gameboy stuff (which I have absolutely no interest in) I guess I don't need one of those ecash card things quite so soon... When they come out with a must-buy 3DS-specific downloadable game I'll buy in.

Finally got my free games. I have NO idea what pokedex is...gonna have to look that one up.
I see they have DQ wars for download ...if I remember correctly I heard there was a DQ Wars II coming out, anyone know? Otherwise...worth downloading this one?

Finally got onto the shop without errors. Even for downloading free software (i.e. ExciteBike) it is asking me for a zip code to calculate sales tax. Do you guys think I should try giving an New Hampshire zip code? :)

As for the internet browser, the dual screens with only the lower screen being touch sensitive felt strange. Youtube videos don't work at least as of yet. I like typing with a stylus, but this isn't going to replace a smart phone for web browsing.

I also checked out lagom.nl to test the LCD screens but the results were pretty poor. This was surprising to me because I thought the 3DS used decent quality IPS screens. There was a huge loss of detail in the "Black level" and "White saturation" tests, and the "Gradient" test were literally bands of grey bars rather than a smooth grey transition. Perhaps it was just the funky browser, but shifting the picture between the two screens or adjusting the zoom didn't help.

As you may have heard, old "Nintendo Point Cards" don't work, and I went ahead and confirmed it with a points card I had lying around. Here is the message I got:

"The activation number you have entered is from a Nintendo Points Card, which cannot be used with Nintendo eShop.

Please use a Nintendo 3DS Prepaid Card"

just remember that game is online only

Yeah, that was going to be my first ever DSiware purchase until I found out it didn't have a single-player campaign. I still have that 1000 points on my DSi from the launch purchase .

I suppose a way to use the 1000 points + a couple of Wii Points cards I have sitting in a drawer would be to buy the "best of" the DSiware shop and then either just keep those on my DSi (which I will continue to use) or simply transfer it all to the 3DS (which hopefully I can do much later if I feel like it then). Of course once I start playing them then transfering and losing the game saves won't make me happy. If I buy a bunch of stuff and xfer it now (before playing) I guess that makes more sense.
At first I thought that just got me a sticker marker but it also appears to unlock that Pokemon (unless I just happened to have that one at the end before - don't remember).
I believe you start with 16 and when I scanned the sticker I got 17 so you gain them too. Thanks for the code =D
Utopian is one of the bigger 3DS enthusiasts on this board, so I would say you hit it right on the nose.

But really.. it was originally promised for launch, then delayed until May, then delayed until June 6th, and now delayed until...? We're all just curious.
You hit it on the nose. Despite owning a gaming PC, Wii, and 360, the DS/3DS remains my primary gaming platform.

Strell, if I wasn't married... ;)

I was bored. If you need one by a pokemon you need to add a white border around it to get it.

I can't recommend DQ Wars. With the lack of a single-player campaign, the game's value plummets.

Updated to the new eShop and started transfering data from my DSi to my 3DS. Was REALLY sad Pinball Pulse, Art Academy, and Pro-Putt Domo can't be transfered to the 3DS after all.

I must say, though, the Pikmin running around while you do a DSi transfer is pretty great.

If i scanned that pic as is would that possibly create a portal to Pokémon world? :p
If i scanned that pic as is would that possibly create a portal to Pokémon world? :p
Portal? no
but it should give you 80 - 90% of them. The others are incomplete because they require a code you cant see (legendaries) or the pokemon breaks the image (you need a full white border for it to work). So if you make sure they're all in a white box you should get them all but the legendaries. Hence why I uploaded it =P

I love that game. I liked it so much i bought the Excitebike Vs machine.

Random side note... is the pokemon survey and the Excitebike survey the "40" points people were referencing on club nintendo? If so people wondering you can do those whenever.

Edit~

I was searching for the last 4 pokemon and found this...

pokemonj.jpg

so if you want everything just scan this =P

Edit 2~

This is sorta amusing but this code will display a random Pokemon you've unlocked.

I'm trying to scan all of these to fill the Pokedex, but it seems to have stopped inputting new Pokemon. It shows them in my sticker book, but I don't think they're in my Pokedex.
