Finally got onto the shop without errors. Even for downloading free software (i.e. ExciteBike) it is asking me for a zip code to calculate sales tax. Do you guys think I should try giving an New Hampshire zip code?
As for the internet browser, the dual screens with only the lower screen being touch sensitive felt strange. Youtube videos don't work at least as of yet. I like typing with a stylus, but this isn't going to replace a smart phone for web browsing.
I also checked out lagom.nl to test the LCD screens but the results were pretty poor. This was surprising to me because I thought the 3DS used decent quality IPS screens. There was a huge loss of detail in the "Black level" and "White saturation" tests, and the "Gradient" test were literally bands of grey bars rather than a smooth grey transition. Perhaps it was just the funky browser, but shifting the picture between the two screens or adjusting the zoom didn't help.
As you may have heard, old "Nintendo Point Cards" don't work, and I went ahead and confirmed it with a points card I had lying around. Here is the message I got:
"The activation number you have entered is from a Nintendo Points Card, which cannot be used with Nintendo eShop.
Please use a Nintendo 3DS Prepaid Card"
