Nintendo E3 2011 Press Conference - Wii U, Luigi's Mansion 2, Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS
Yeah oh he said a name of a title!
Now let's see how Smash Bros gets ruined because we'll have forced gimmicks on us. TAP SCREEN TO ATTACK! TURN BACK TO TV TO DO SPECIAL.
I feel ya, they've done this to Mario Kart. 3DS is the final blow -- you fly kites. They've nearly taken all the karting out of the Mario Kart.

I'll probably still buy the thing because I can but they really need to do new games of their other first party franchises like Starfox, Pikmin, Golden Sun, F-Zero and other ones that didn't make an appearance on the Wii or has yet to have a console title
This new controller has waggle. Did they say what kind of waggle? Same as the original Wii remotes? Or at LEAST wii motion +? Does this mean games will now focus on using the screen and waggle to show it's "innovation"?

I just don't see how anyone can be excited -- or totally against -- this considering we don't know ANYthing about it.
I'm confused about the whole motion thing too. They showed a slide of a Wii U Controller on top of a blaster attachment... Do I need to hold the controller in one hand and a WiiMote in another for certain games? I can't wrap my head around it, and not in a good way. I guess I'll just have to wait over the next few days.
this thread moving rather quickly.. someone mentioned bluray in the wii u.

Was that confirmed?
I thought someone just wrote "high density proprietary discs" somewhere...which wouldn't expressly by Bluray.

So, for 250 bucks i have the following choice:

The 3d gimmick or something that really seems new and fresh. Well, I was interested in getting a 3ds but for the same price I can get a Vita.... Yeah. Guess what I will prolly work on saving up for. Sorry Nintendo. If you had announced some type of price drop maybe, but I gotta go for most bang for my buck.
not to be a dick, but please explain why this was such a big moment? maybe i am missing something here.
Well, you kinda have to be a golfer to really appreciate why it works so well.

Right now, you gotta zoom in and out of the fairway/pin to figure out your shot. And then it zooms back to the golfer and you address the ball.

With the wiitablet and Tiger Woods 13, I can see the flag on the TV. Then I can look down and see the ball, the lie, and then I can KEEP MY EYE ON THE BALL as I swing. (Yeah, it probably doesn't matter in the game but it's good practice.) And like I said, this is the least innovating of the extension of the screen that they showed, but it's really kinda nifty. A small change but a good one. Creative developers are gonna do great things with this.

Also, you know what sucked about Shawn White Snowboarding even though the balance board was perfect for it? You gotta look up to see the screen, when you're really looking slightly down as you bomb down runs. With the tablet, that's semi fixed. I had to stop playing Shawn White world tour cause my neck hurt so damn much.

Also, you're gonna be able to do a trivia game the right way now.
I thought someone just wrote "high density proprietary discs" somewhere...which wouldn't expressly by Bluray.
Yes, it's called iDensity. For Wii U. O. M. F. G. with the letters, Nintendo.
it's a year away. the "I NEED TO BUY THIS" advertising/press releases don't come out till next year.

I'm not a fanboy, I own every system. But anti-nintendo fanboys are the biggest nuisances on CAG. Wait till Chimpmoron gets here. He's the leader of the slack jawed pack.

---

I think it's pretty well established now that it's a new console and controller. But they really did a shitty job of making that clear in the presser.
If you have all the systems, why are you so set on a purchase? Because of a golf tech demo?

I still find it very odd CoD wasn't shown. Nintendo couldn't money-hat Bobby?

I'm really more curious about their plans for the network infrastructure for their next platform. I'm hoping they invest heavily on that.

Oh my gawd. 5 years of complaining and still more groveling. Move on people. Let the rest of the nintendo fanbase enjoy this.
I don't remember blu ray being mentioned, however, the 25 gig capacity media would give a little indication.
The same arguments made went with the Wii. Oh it sucks.. oh it won't sell... I'm confused... I feel alienated... blah..blah. Enough already. Wii sold like hotcakes. This will too. Nintendo should see this thread and laugh like I am right now.
Yes, it's called iDensity. For Wii U. O. M. F. G. with the letters, Nintendo.
Bitches like density in their wiis.
Thinking about it for a bit, it seems genius, actually.

It operates independently of the TV - the first console to do so. It streams video from the new system to the controller without really losing any of the quality. You market this to kids as an HD system while telling parents that it won't tie up your TV.. instant sell out.

For games that make use of the touchscreen, I would imagine that it has an option to use the screen on the controller as the main screen and you could just hit a button to switch over to the inventory screen or whatever.

There's no networking capabilities in the controller (yet) so you can't stream stuff on the go and, as such, would have to stay near the console, but I don't see why they wouldn't add stuff like what the PS3 has for the PSOne games on the PSP.. playing over wi-fi so you can play anywhere.
Reggie pretty much said the same thing just now on G4. Streams from the console to the controller.

So it's just a new console with a new controller that can stream video from the console. For some games, it will offer additional features. You will also be able to stream all games to the controller so you don't tie up the TV.
I'm really more curious about their plans for the network infrastructure for their next platform. I'm hoping they invest heavily on that.
There are a lot of important unanswered questions. Getting 3d party ports onboard was only one area.

Right, so now you bomb runs while you hold a tablet with both hands, thereby negating the "balance" in Balance Board. ^^^This dude's neck thanks you, WII U!

We saw how great COD was for the Wii.

I'm thinking it's because MW3 would be old news by the time WiiU (lollll) is out.

I'd expect Black Ops 2 or whatever next year on it, as the game releases on all 3 current gen consoles

so if this console isn't out until who knows when in 2012, but arkham city comes out october 2011... is the Wii U version going to come out about a year later? I would hope they at least add some extras...
If you have all the systems, why are you so set on a purchase? Because of a golf tech demo?
Because I have money and I like my tech toys?

The only thing I don't have is a PSP and I might get the Vita if there's a good deal on it. Is that a crime?
o fucking great.. gd rom/ gamcube mini disc all over again
 You understand the new xbox format isn't blu ray either right?

So I can play a game, then continue to play the game while taking a shit. This is win.....

Actually the reason I am excited for this is when I want to watch shit on tv and be able to play games. Especially on some nights when there is like 2+ hours of programming I want to watch, but I also want to game.
Also, you're gonna be able to do a trivia game the right way now.
That's one of the few things I'd like about the controller...my own screen allows for developers to build games based around deception and hiding information. Hell, they could now make a home console version of Clue.

But the pad on the ground thing? Seems like a parlor trick. If the pad actually reads in input from the Wiimote and can figure out if your swing would actually hit the ball or something, I could get on board. Not if it just displays a ball though.

Oh, and placing a controller on a ground like that would be a quick way to get it stepped on and broken...

But what will you do when you're trying to line up your drive on a par 5 on the 13th hole if you're using the controller as your console?

So instead of just hearing someone piss like with XBL now...
Right, so now you bomb runs while you hold a tablet with both hands, thereby negating the "balance" in Balance Board. ^^^This dude's neck thanks you, WII U!
ummmm... really? You just put it on the ground.

I wonder, since the Wii U controller is backwards compatible with Wii games is it also backwards compatible with Virtual Console games?

Can it be used like a classic controller so I can play, say, Super Mario RPG or Super Mario World on the Wii U controller?

I would buy the Wii U if the price is right because I really like the idea of streaming games to the controller from the console, however the games have to be there as well, not one good game every 6 months as with the Wii and just about every other Nintendo systems out there.
There is no liquor strong enough in the world for the mindfucking this thing gave me.
For me the mindfuck came when Iwata made the "deeper and wider" comment. He had this evil, perverse glint in his eye, it almost felt rehearsed, as though it's a line he's accustomed after chaining people to radiators. He violated me there for a moment.
ummmm... really? You just put it on the ground.
Amazing. It's not just a handheld, it's a groundheld.

You've done it again, Nintendo, you magnificent bastards. Absolutely shaqtastic.

no. the vita is at a excellent price point and if sony support for their devices is any indication, you would be safe with Vita.

the demo with WiiU Golf looked like it was just there to show the ball. But I think a real golf sim could figure out how to combine the wiimote and wiitablet for accuracy.
Ah yes, your riches from Mario All-Stars flips.
God you're such a stupid trolling asshole. I didn't flip SMAS. I don't know why you have it in your head that I did.

If you want to play Clue, get the board game.

I think "Now check out this bird" needs to be everyone's stock answer to every question ever asked for the rest of eternity.

Yeah, I don't understand Nintendo's deal with proprietary software format. N64 had carts and lost to PSX. Gamecube had mini DVDs and lost to PS2/Xbox. You can debate about Wii vs. PS3/360, but they've really limited the potential of games because of the medium.

Wouldn't surprise me if they actually are losing more money in the long-run by making decisions such as these to fight piracy than if they were just to use the standard format (blu-ray in this case).

as someone who golfs regularly, im still not impressed. i don't play tiger woods golf to enjoy a more realistic experience of golfing. i dont want to put an expensive controller on the ground so i can keep my eye on the ball while i swing a remote control. i play tiger woods because its fun and quick to play.
God a THIRD revision to the 360, Microsoft? Really?
Looks like a 360 phat and PS3 slim had intercourse.

I'm not sure I wanted a Wii HD, I'm sure most of us wanted something entirely new but they couldnt really abandon all the Wii's success. They also carry over the let downs but the name still has value to the casual market. The control idea is interesting but form factor is questionable. Reminds me of those leap frog kids learning toys.

I'm just hoping their online system is on par with XBL. If I feel like I'm playing a whole new system with it I'm sold. The UI needs a whole new feel, not a DS to DSi to 3DS same but different feel.

I think Nintendo YOUR MOM needs to be the new name of this Wii U revelation.
Amazing. It's not just a handheld, it's a groundheld.

it is simply amazing. Remember gamers, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE NINTENDO!!!!
They did it with the Wii. The casual family gamer is going to go for it since it will be marketed to them. The true Nintendo hardcore gamer will come back, if they are a true Nintendo hardcore gamer.

Listen everyone complained about the Wii controller. It worked. Otherwise it wouldn't have sold as many units. Even though sales have gone soft, it only has because so many people bought one. They wiil buy this. You watch and observe.

Once again, the haters are going to pick it apart. They can keep hating. Make me want to purchase it more.

They simply owned this e3 on buzz and confusion and innovation alone. Which wasn't hard to do. :applause:

to each his own. But like I said, for me, it wasn't about that specific extension of the controller screen but more that it could be used for some really innovating gameplay for other things if the developers get creative.

Something else is, I'd be really cool to play a Wii game or something while I wait for the next round when I die in search and destroy on call of duty while playing my Ps3.

Playing an Aliens game with the controller working as a motion detector? Sign me up.

Wish they would have announced a price. If it's under $300, I'll pre-order it without a doubt.
