I don't understand. Everyone on here said that this is a worthless upgrade and now everyone is rushing to pre-order it. So what is it? If it was such a bad upgrade then I'm sure this wouldn't be the case, right?

if stores didn't allow returns, it probably wouldn't sell out

managed to get a white one from best buy.

Im surprised these are selling out this fast; I thought noone wanted these and there was an outrage about how they are lacking features.

I only play portable and love my OLED vita so easy choice for me.
It's kind of like a really expensive 3DS/Vita. I'm game for a new OLED handheld!

People are assuming they can flip it for profit.

Interesting that people are willing to take such a big risk considering you don't make that much off selling these after fees, time, and the possibility of getting ripped off by a bad buyer or scammer.

As someone who mostly only plays their Switch in handheld mode and has a upgraded battery model I can easily hawk on Ebay or something, this is still a pretty big upgrade and no brainer for me.

You said you had 3 at best buy. Why do you need 3 more?
This is why there should be no cancellations allowed on these and all sales should be final just like LRG does. It would prevent the scalping problem and ensure that only the people that actually want these get them for MSRP.

Dang I was playing fallout and missed out…thought no one wanted this lol
it might be widely available after it's released once everyone starts returning / canceling their orders if their not profitable. If I remember correctly that's what happened with the Wii U.

who are they price matching? are they making all the preorders $232.xx?
Themselves? Walmart initially had the listing up at $332 and then changed it back to $350 when it live for real. I didn’t even send them anything about it…they just adjusted it on their own.

This week all the parents got the letter outlining how much they’ll be getting monthly from the government for having kids. We’re getting a reduced amount since my husband makes too much. But basically many are thinking about how to spend their ‘free’ money.

Hate the tone of articles like this. Nintendo like any business is out to make money. Even if it only cost $10 more to make, it's also cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in R&D, mass production allocation and new media / marketing campaign. $10 is just the raw materials, and doesn't translate to $40 profit exactly for the $50 difference.

Except everyone on here calls out companies being greedy all the time. Nintendo is no exception.
Even with R&D considered, it would not be that much more out of that $40 chunk per unit. Not to mention this isn't even factoring in the (assumed) decrease in costs to manufacture regular Switches. Nintendo is making bank on these and they haven't been shy about saying so to their investors.

I don't consider Nintendo greedy when they are just about the only company in town making finished, highly polished, complete games for $60, and are not beholden to shareholder interests. (capitalizing on loot boxes, P2W, 'gold' editions, or microtransactions.)

They set the bar high for publishing standards.  That's why their games command such a strong value in the secondary market, and for collectors in the long haul.

They've been slowly adopting those models though. Their mobile stuff is full of that crap, several of their games are lacking at launch and made whole through a long period of free updates, many others have paid DLC (and complete/Gold editions) and they charge a premium for barely enhanced ports. They most certainly are not immune to shareholder interests, they are just a first-party company and so they hold off on some of the scummier stuff since they are more interested in selling hardware.

I was able to get in an order on a white oled at target long after they sold out. Refreshed a zillion times on the mobile app.

What do others have as shipping/arrival date? Mine is Oct 11-14 and I'm very suspicious that my order was an error and won't be fulfilled. My preference is for Target (red card discount) but if I'm better with a "normal" Best Buy order, I'll pay the slight amount more just to be sure I get it.

I have the same estimated delivery window. I’ve been preordering games more often through Target because of b2g1 deals and most of the time I won’t get the game on launch day. They usually arrive anywhere from 3-7 days after the release date.

Not sure whether to get the official screen protector or wait for a tempered glass one.

Well I decided to call and see if gamestop had any in-store pre orders left, said they had one left so I raced over and got a white one. Will be nice to pay for it in credit.

Based on the carrying case having one and showing it works on the original model - you could probably buy a tempered one for the current model and it'll work. Appears the screen overall is the same but the bars are decreased so there isn't a size difference.

The glass tempered screen protector on my son's switch goes end to end on the black borders except on the bottom edge where the current model has two thin speaker ports and a light sensor for brightness adjustment. The question is whether or not those are present on the new model or if they've moved them

Edit: the press release photo for the new case and plastic screen protector bundle shows that the speaker ports have been moved down to be along the very bottom corner. It shows the screen protector as a perfect rectangle.

No current switch screen protector is a perfect rectangle because it would block those bottom speaker ports and the light sensor

Got one at GameStop online, but they have a $200 trade in. Damn. Wonder if they will honor it on the 8th

Was able to snag a white one at Best Buy for release day pickup at local store and a red/blue one from target for delivery.

availability assumes the semiconductor shortage improves.... so far XSX, PS5, Nvidia & AMD GPUs, all difficult to find in stock or on the shelves.

Come on man. The majority of Switch games by Nintendo are the exact same games released almost a decade ago on the Wii U sometimes with just some additional content here and there for $60 each. How is something like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (among many other similar rereleases) not just a gold edition of Mario Kart 8 which was released many years ago on the Wii U? The Mario collection was very lazy with three old games emulated. Their newest big games are all either rereleases or remasters of decade old games (Skyward Sword) or games that seem low budget with little content (Mario Golf). No DLC? Their Zelda Amiibo is $25 and they didn't even make enough copies for everyone to buy.

Amazon has the white listed as in stock but erroring out every time so there may be a chance to get one through if you keep trying.

There was an alternate link post on Wario64's twitter feed that worked for me.
