Back in May, my launch Switch randomly crapped out on me, even though I baby all of my gadgets. Only other system that ever died on me was my 360, so I was taken off guard when my Switch died out of the blue. Luckily, Nintendo is fixing it for free despite being 3+ years out of warranty.

I'm wondering if I should try to get an OLED...

This has been my fear. Crazy that on satisfye's twitter a couple weeks ago they have said they have no idea if it fits. Nintendo should really provide dimensions to these companies so they could have one available at launch. So does this mean it won't fit in an older switch dock or is the system just wider but the same thickness?

Nintendo reminds me a lot of Apple. Apple can do things like remove the headphone jack and do a bunch of stuff and still get away with it cause it'll still sell. Nintendo is the Apple of Video Games.

 
I used my satisfye grip everyday til I got an attachment that is the same thing as the hori pad pro, but cheaper and with better reviews. I don't have it on me so i don't know the name just yet they are black with red thumb pads, and since I put it on, I've yet to take it off.

It sucks if the grip doesn't work on the new model, but you should look into the hori pad pro style knock-offs as an alternative
 
i cant use anything but the pro controller in tabletop anymore
grip helped some but its just too bulky and awkward for me as a handheld

I bought a hori pad with the amazon $15 off promo a few weeks back out of concern that the Satisfye wouldn't fit. I think this will be the only solution for a little while, unfortunately.

The hori pro pads are really good. One of my preferred ways to play handheld mode is with a pro pad on right side a joycon (in custom dpad shell) on the left. This is the only way i play botw, for example. I hate how the game forces run/jump to B/X. And the pro pad lets me keep jump on B while run (x) is mapped to the rear paddle.

I guess I was assuming I could use a screen protector for the older models.  Are the bottom cutouts for the speaker/scamera different for the oled?

hmm I realize the new console itself has a wider dimension.  What I had in mind is that previous screen protectors, at least the ones I have, cover well past the screen and over the black bezel areas of the previous models.  But if the speaker cutouts are placed differently then that would be reason enough to buy another.  Edit:  I'm cheap.

That's actually a good point. When and if I get one of these, I think I do have an extra protector so I might see if that works first.

As far as I can tell the new model has the speakers on the bottom so no cutouts are needed. I cannot tell where the ambient light sensor is, but that's another cutout on the current protector that doesn't need to be on the new one.

The ones on amazon that claim to be for the oled have no cut outs at all.

We are all cheap. That's why we are here. :)
That said, I want to have the glass protector on hand so it can go right on the oled when it comes out of the box --cheap, but I want to protect my new expensive toy.

I agree - I have used their protectors on multiple devices and they were well worth the money

I’ve had great experiences with amFilm protectors too, although putting them on is always nerve wracking. They couldn’t make it easier but I seem to find a way to get dust underneath anyway. (I know the shower steam trick.) Anyway, I’d like confirmation that the OLED Switch has a glass screen instead of plastic, before I buy a protector. I’ve heard that rumor.

The shower trick has worked for me in the past. I've also done it in my office with an air purifier running and that works pretty well to draw the dust in the air away from my work area. But yeah I've gotten small pieces of dust underneath before, but as long as it doesn't create a bubble I can never tell when the system vis on and I get over it. Is a glass screen protector not good to put on a glass screen?

It’s totally fine to put a glass screen protector on a glass screen. I have them on my phone and watch. It’s just probably less critical for a device with a glass screen than plastic. Doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. Just that I’m not sure I want to go through the hassle. I’m sure I’ll end up putting on a screen protector. That nagging voice in the back of my head always wins out.
 
I was tempted to trade in my present Switch at Gamestop for the $220 credit, but I would want to use that credit towards an OLED Switch. There's no telling when those will be available to get, since I don't have a preorder. And Gamestop has a habit of having dumb bundles online with accessories and games I don't need. I'm afraid to tie up credit in Gamestop and be missing my Switch in the holiday season, not knowing when they will have a OLED model to sell me.

 
Still waiting on Gamestop to ship my OLED, my Metroid Dread and my Amiibos. Doubtful I'm gonna get any of them on release date at this point

My plan is to sell my launch Switch since it's moddable which makes it more valuable and get $300+ for it which will almost make getting the OLED one in it's place a wash.

Does it matter which version of the software is on there? It hasn’t been touched for maybe a year or so since I have the Animal Crossing and Mario switches.

Oh yeah, 2 other reasons I may not need the OLED model haha.

I'm gonna toss it on FB marketplace and offerup and just be pretty firm on price. I'm not in a hurry to sell mine and they are only going to get more valuable.

I'm completely done with eBay now that they want SSN to sell on there.

Ebay is where I sold mine. Tablet only an easy 300 for it. and if it does have a lower firmware that's better too but not necessary. Just don't update it all the way if you can.

 
What's the best guess on getting one from a GameStop store this Friday? Yes? No? Start camping now? Don't even bother camping because they won't have any?

Only thing I can contribute is that I asked two stores Mon-tue this week about the possibility of having extra beyond the preordered consoles. They both told me they don't know and haven't received the shipment yet.

I was going to call around. One store told me last week that (if I remember correctly) they would have five or at least they said there wasn't much extra, but I'll check there again and at others tomorrow.

I mean, good on ya if that's what you were able to get for it but unpatched tablet only (or even full listings with all accessories) are going for mid to low 200s, buy it now.
 
my red/blue oled from target shipped. white hasn't yet...no other retailers have shipped yet (amazon, walmart). best buy says preparing for friday pickup

 
My buddy who ordered a white one from Target after I ordered my white one from Target has received his shipping info and says expected by Friday.  I haven't gotten anything and still says between the 11th and 14th.
