NO MORE HEROES Discussion - FS/FT Pure White Giant Glastonbury LE Pink Cartridge
summed up nicely except for the whole t-shirt thing. I have yet to find that I disliked any shirts or saw a need for more.
Hmm. Maybe I didn't make my point very well. I shall try using pictures.

fuck. How do you beat rank 3?

Its like she goes on a shooting spree once you get a certain distant away and you can't get any closer cuz she'll just keep shooting. She's so close, but then shoots her canon till it kills me even with full life.

on the last opening on the left there is a telephone poll to knock down, it will show up on the radar if you go the skill, hit it, the end
Crotch summed up things pretty well.

But check this out, if you haven't already:

Ouuuuuccch. I think it's too harsh, but there's some valid points made in between the rant.
Thats one of the most horribly written reviews I've seen in awhile. He did make a couple good points but draws way too much on the GTA comparison.

About rank 3 fight.
Oddly I never found the telephone pole I just blocked by pressing the A buton repreatedly a few times and her cannon jammed then I charged up the rest of the distance and it was over mind you I was on sweet when I did this she may not jam up the cannon on mild or bitter.

Thank goodness Suda didn't go with full waggle controls for the swordplay. I got a chance to play Oneechanbara last night, which uses ONLY motion controls for hack and slash. Very tiring. It feels like you're rubbing one out but without the payoff.

I'm considering going back on Bitter in a few weeks. However, I played the game on Sweet the first time so it might be pretty rough on me. :x

Pete - you really have to experiment with bosses. My main suggestion is to experiment with different stances and use that side-step thingy a lot.

EDIT: And look carefully at how the enemies are holding their weapons when they block your attack. There are certain indicators as to whether or not you can stun an enemy with a punch - wrestling moves are great ways to weaken bosses.

Yeah, either I'm doing something wrong or these boss battles are broken. I spent about 10 minutes running circles around #9, doing a 4 hit combo, then running more circles around him. What was I supposed to be doing? The different stances are...2. So my choices are high slice or low slice? The difference seemed to be that low slice was slower. I got 1 wrestling move off on him, and he no-sold every one after that.

Also had trouble with the 2 light saber-wielding baseball players earlier in the level. I fell down at first, and they took turns stomping on me for 30 seconds before I could stand up. They come after you, clipping through each other, and when you try to attack one, the other one hits you out of it. You can block, but then they use their unblockable move. You can try to run to recharge your saber, but they run as fast as you. The only reason I passed them was that I got 3 grasshoppers in the slots and therefore could 1-hit kill them.

Noice.
Got this game about 3 days ago and I just beat it now.
I loved it. I loved the style, I loved the game play (excluding the driving parts), and over all variety that each ranked match brought.
The fake ending was bad, but the real ending was tons better!

Awesome game!

I gotta disagree with Crotch. I don't think the bosses respond to stances. The stances just dictate whether a high or low block will stop them. And I had no trouble with any boss until I hit Holly.

The trick to remember is that this game isn't so much Shadow of Rome or Dead Rising, and isn't afraid to make bosses invincible at various times, but nine times out of ten they can be hit AFTER they attack.

Dr. Peace's bullets could be blocked, allowing you a slightly better chance to get close to him... but I don't remember the fight too clearly.

A four hit-combo is more than most bosses allow. Even after attacks, Rank 2 won't let you have more than two hits unless you REALLY smack the bitch after an attack. If you get multiple hits in, causing the boss to stagger, that's usually a good sign.

Bosses can be stunned with punch attacks ONLY if they are actually blocking. They get ridiculous periods of INVINCIBILITY without blocking (*Cough*HOLLY*Cough*), but they have to be ACTUALLY blocking your attacks for a punch to stun them. Unless you are pounding a boss after a heavy attack that should leave him or her more open, I wouldn't normally hit A more than you expect for the combo so you can be ready to switch to B for the punches.

Repeated large combos can dizzy bosses without punch stuns, watch for them when you can.

Lightsaber goons are just poorly thought out in this game. I can't get over how they couldn't make difficulty for the mook combat in this game without just spamming twenty of these. Utterly stupid. Your experience with them mirrors mine (Except for the stomping. When you're down, mash buttons or waggle both waggling sticks to get up really fast.). Don't go too much farther without buying the nunchuck shake sweep attack from the Lovikov balls. They allow you to do an unblockable knockdown attack against those bastards, allowing you to stab them on the ground for an insta-kill.

Week 4:

Still no, No more Heroes. Getting impatient, my Gramecrazy says they still have no received shipments. Even if I wanted to go out and buy the game I haven't seen it in stock at any Bestbuys or Targets. Anyone else having this problem?

I see it in best buy all the time. I would check again

I didn't have trouble getting close to him, I just had nothing to do while waiting for his attack to finish before doing another minuscule amount of damage to him.

(Except for the stomping. When you're down, mash buttons or waggle both waggling sticks to get up really fast.)
Yeah, I was doing this. It doesn't work when they alternate kicking you out of your "stand up" animation.

Dr. Peace really isnt that hard close in and dark step or block his rapid fire shots(high stance blocks them all) try to combo him after this and throw him. When he does his charge shot run around him to avoid it then move in and combo him again and throw him again I never found darkstepping to work well against this move. Just keep plugging away like that till you beat him. That method worked for me on both sweet and mild its farily straight forward.

200,000? That might be enough to justify a sequel.

I feel like a game like this has legs though, it's all about word of mouth. More people will keep buying it well after it's initial shipment.

Actually, it's 300,000 -- 40K Japan + 100K US + 160K Europe (pre-orders). A bona-fide success on the Wii, given its lower production costs and Grasshopper's shoestring budgets, and I imagine a sequel is on the way.

I am 100% sure that changing stance affects at least one boss. I believe it was the rank 2 fight.

Enemy lightsaber guys were huge pains early on - they were the first things that nearly killed me. If you can spare the batteries, a low charged attack can help out - just keep in mind that it uses up a lot of batteries. Alternately, if you can get the timing down, a charged-up bash while they're running towards you works fantastically. Once you meet Lovikov, get a hold of the leaping nunchuck attack (I recommend you get dash immediately after that) - it makes those guys a cinch. That attack also ignores a number of "boss invincibilty frames", but it will not stun them.
I didn't have trouble getting close to him, I just had nothing to do while waiting for his attack to finish before doing another minuscule amount of damage to him.
Dark steps. Whenever you get close to an enemy doing a combo, step forward and to the side rapidly. For Dr. Peace, I only found this worked against the straight-shooting combo, but it might have worked against his other combo, too. It lets you get a bunch of free hits and possibly stun the enemy. Works on regular foes, too.

Yeah he wasn't hard, he was just hard to enjoy fighting.

Tried this, but they usually hit me out of it before it connected, and they really don't give you enough breathing room to charge up another.

I did this by accident on the first boss, seemed pretty random, and would happen when I'm walking, instead of other games when you hit some sort of dodge button. They should've mapped it to the d-pad instead.

Yeah I just wasted the last 80 minutes of my life dying to Shinobu. The d-pad very very rarely dark stepped, and it didnt matter because most of the time she was inexplicably invulnerable during the dark step. So Travis would just flail wildly, saber flashing all over the place, hitting nothing. I've gotten more dark steps using the analog stick, when I'm just trying to walk. For some reason this translates as like a side-dash, and I don't really know why. I eventually beat her, heres how:

I ran up to her, and mashed A. If she blocked, I hit B and did a suplex. Until she died. No timing, no dodging. Just hit A as fast as I could. She just happened to not use the one-hit kill combo. Anyone who thinks this is any different from the dreaded and much maligned Dynasty Warriors is living in a dream world.

Making your boss invulnerable without rhyme or reason isn't a good idea. And it goes without saying that the one-hit-kill combo is cheap as shit.
Tried which? If nothing else, a low charged attack is usually good for a sword clash.
Yeah, you're right, this did get me a sword clash at least.

Pete: I wish I could see what you're doing, because I had no trouble at all with any of the stuff you've mentioned. All I can say is that I mostly used the low stance on my first playthrough and I always maxed out my stats at the gym. Hell, I didn't even figure out how to do the dark step or the triangles attack, or even the effect the stances have on blocking, until I started Bitter. I'd like to help since it seems like you're not enjoying the game, but all I can say is not to give up, there's a satisfying fighting system there if you can just grasp it.

I did die a few times against Shinobu though. First time I died, I think. fucking pillars.

Re: Tankex

1. What triangle attack?
2. I mostly used a high stance, save for when low attacks got through more/I wanted to charge low.
3. Shinobu? Srsly? I know the pillars were annoying, but c'mon...

Speed Buster was the first to take me down. First time I didn't realize that blocking the beam was damaging me at all during my search for trading cards. Second time I just tried to charge through. Third time was the charm though.

And of course I died at Bad Girl. I fell for her crying :(

I dunno, I died twice to Shinobu on Mild. We don't even mess with the EZ mode. Ended up beating her when I figured out to punch her when she was blocking for the throws. Her crazy 50+ hit slash got me once, and her quad projectile sword thing got me once when I was up in her face.

I also thought Holly was one of the easiest bosses, except that at one point she stood right at the top of the hole I fell into and every time I got out, it'd force me back down into the hole. I eventually just ate the explosion and continued on.
I'd like to help since it seems like you're not enjoying the game, but all I can say is not to give up, there's a satisfying fighting system there if you can just grasp it.
I'm enjoying the rest of the game, the boss battles are just dragging it down for me. And I don't give up on games I've paid this much for.

Munkee: Yeah, I died on Bad Girl's trick and on Speed Buster. In the case of Buster, I didn't realize I could
bash the doors
for a long time. As in, until I got the the very end on my second try.

CK: I didn't even know Shinobu had a huge combo. I was using the d-pad dodge heavily when I fought her. As for Holly? The first time I fought her, she abused her invincibility like no other boss, including the rank two and one bosses. She basically just whittled me down bit by bit. The second time, I don't think she even got my heart to turn red.

Pete: Trust me, there are techniques that make every boss a lot more enjoyable. I can't say I've found them for every boss, but they're there.

The fact that I hated her so much on Sweet makes me very scared of her on Bitter. Still going back and forth on playing it on Bitter or not.

Huh? That was an easy boss fight. D-Pad dodge his dashing attack, run behind him, and slash away. Dark step his other attacks and go hard. You should be able to get enough wrestling moves and sword clashes to finish that one fairly quickly.
There's a powered-up deathblow that involves triangles. People say that if you swing the wiimote in the opposite direction during the slow mo portion of a deathblow you'll get it. But, I get it fine swinging in the same direction as well.

I've noticed occasionally when doing a deathblow the range of my attack seems to increase drastically. Perhaps I'm accidentally activating this?

If triangles shoot all over the enemies then yes.
Heh, that sounds perverse.
