There's a story of....either two pole vaulters or two high jumpers...
And they both cleared the same height, but it was getting late so the Olympic coordinators stopped the event and ended for the day with (I think) the intention of continuing it the next day. But they never did do that, and so they awarded one of the athletes with gold and the other with silver.
Both of them knew they had cleared the same height, so when they got back to their home country (I want to say this was two Americans, so the USA), they went to a metal shop and had them cut each medal in half and then weld them together, so each man had a gold/silver medal hybrid.
I guess they could do the same thing here, but it's not quite the same thing since gymnastics isn't based on one pure factor, and instead has to take a lot of things into consideration.
