Official 2010 Yard Sale Thread

Alright well today I hit about 40 sales (mostly in an advertised town-wide sale). I didn't find that much, but I'm satisfied with everything I got:

img1441p.jpg

Pac-Man electronic game (works, but extremely dusty) - $0.50

img1442t.jpg

A bunch of Pokemon-related (etc) plastic figures - $1.00 for all

img1443c.jpg

Viewtiful Joe 2 (PS2)
Jak 3 (PS2)
TOTAL: $5.00

img1444z.jpg

ET Limited Collector's Edition (DVD)
Cloverfield (Blu)
Juno (Blu)
TOTAL: $10.00

img1446hu.jpg

:) - $0.25.... I had to.

img1447y.jpg

Nintendo 64 console (very dusty)
Power/AV cords
3 Nintendo brand controllers
Donkey Kong 64
?expansion pack?
TOTAL: $7.00

At the same sale with the N64, I passed on a bare NES with a small crack in it for $1.00. Also, I passed on Sonic Riders (PS2) for $2.00 at a different sale. Along with an Intellivision, a Master System, and a Saturn, each bundled with sports games for $20 a piece.

Super slow day today, no stories to boast of. Every single time I walked up and just took the price they were asking. I am a little ashamed of my laziness today.

100_3293.jpg

Arc The Lad (PS2), $2

100_3292.jpg

RE5 (Complete Very Good) + Wii Play (Sealed) $10. Probably my best score of the day.

100_3291.jpg

Random SNES games (Turrican, EW Jim 2, Illusion Of Gaia) $6

100_3240.jpg

XBOX 360 Arcade Joystick $7 (NIB)

Hope you guys did better than me on this muggy Florida morning.

Went to a multi-family event this morning...pretty disappointing (hit up 15 houses)

Only bought
- Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt
- Excite Bike
- Section Z
- Super Gameboy
all for $5.00
I was like 5 minutes late, he said he had a Saturn and an Snes for sale but someone bought it before me (grrr)

Buncha junk including yesterday and today. Too lazy for pics.

Kodak 3.1 Megapixel digital camera NIB - $10
Doom II (PC) w/ original jewel case - $.50
Half-Life GOTY Edition w/ original jewel case and big manual - $.50
Action Bass (PS1) - $1 (why?!)
Sonic 2 & Sonic 3 (Genesis) CIB $2
Genesis 6-button controller - $1
The Silmarillion (Tolkein) hardcover, first edition - $1
iPhone rubber slipcover - $.50

And household stuff, a box fan, desk lamp, some basket-shelf thingies for storing controllers and cables in. Went all over a few towns but couldn't find anything great.

The best part was Half-Life though. I opened up Steam, entered the CD Key, and got
-Half Life
-Team Fortress Classic
-Half Life Blue Shift
-Half Life Opposing Force
-Deathmatch Classic
-Counter Strike
-Day of Defeat
-Ricochet

Nice!

P5010449.jpg

Another binder full of Pokemon cards for $1.

P5010450.jpg

$4 + tax

P5010451.jpg

$2. Looks interesting.

Nothing for me today (it rained after going to a few sales then everyone packed up) but someone had the nerve to price DS games for MORE than what gamestop charges, and get this, they left the GS stickers on the games in plain sight. So basically they put their own price on the game, and left the cheaper, GS sticker on the game in plain view. I did not try to buy a game, but I have to admit it would have been interesting if I had tried, paying the cheaper GS price of course. That sale was all overpriced garbage anyways, with tons of other ridiculous prices, needless to say I left quickly after seeing what they were doing with DS games.

I went to another sale down the road and found out that pretty much everyone was leaving the overpriced sale as soon as they got there. Moral of the story, if you have a ridiculously overpriced sale people won't even think about buying anything even if they want it.

Alright, here we go:

Sega Genesis model 1 and model 2 (both were in the box) with games. Woot.

Boxed and complete:
Batman Forever
X-Men 2: Clone Wars
ExMutants
Lost Vikings
X-Men
Jungle Book
Spider-Man (1994)
Batman Returns
Aero The AcroBat

Loose:
Ecco: Tides Of Time
Pitfall
Star Control (didn't even know they made this for the Genesis)
Sol-Deace
Risk
Columns
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Wings Of WOR

When I got home, the box also had Populous and Mario Paint for the SNES.

At the same sale, managed to get Prince Of Persia DS and Hancock bluray for $2.

Sooooooo, what, $12 for the entire haul?

$2 got me two Pokemon games.

You overpaid.. Even for kids games, those are horrible.

.
I am too old to have liked pokemon and I have never bought (other than at a G-sale) a hand held system; but I believe the one on the right is the "crystal version". One of those sold on ebay for over $30 about 2 weeks ago.

I just missed some n64 games because a landscaping vehicle with 3 people decided to park and block the 1 way street. I saw one of the workers carrying some n64 games when I walked up to the sale (after driving around the block and parking on an adjacent street).

I did manage to get Kingdom Hearts black label and FF X-2 black label and Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 Prima's Official Strategy Guide for $3 total

You guys think its worth another run tomorrow? I can expect that most people will prolly be selling left overs of what they couldn't sell today...but still its been awhile since we had a bright, sunny weekend so can I still expect to find some stuff out there?

Finds -
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Mighty Final Fight
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Boxed)

$12

One of the first sales I hit today, asked about video games and the guy brought out an NES with I'd guess close to 25 games, all of it looked fairly dirty from sitting in the basement he brought it up from. Wanted $70 (or may $75 for everything) I offered $35 for the heck of it and was declined so I asked and the best he said he would do was $60. Was willing to do $4 a game so I picked out these 4 and said I was thinking more like $2 per a game and we meet in the middle. I was also looking at Mad Max & Predator since I don't have them in my personal collection but when the guy said $4 I decided it best just to put them back.

N64 With (All 1st Party) Rumble Pack, Gray Controller, Black Controller & Hookups (not shown)

Super Mario 64
StarFox 64
Star Wars Episode I Racer
Superman 64

$10

This sale advertised an N64 with 5 games on Craigslist. I made it one of my first stops but wasen't really worried about missing it so I didn't make it my very first stop. No price I offered $5 and was countered with $10.

Centipede (PS1, Complete) - $1

Was in with some PS2 games in a box marked $5 each but had no problem with my offer of a buck since it was a Playstation 1 game.

Sudeki (Complete) - $1 IAP

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (PS1 Disk Only) - $2
Resident Evil 2 Disc 1 Leon (PS1 Disk Only) - $1

Unadvertised sale, little kids selling very little but was mostly PS1 & 2 games so I didn't really try and haggle but the games were cheaper then usual ($2 PS2 games).

Devil May Cry 3 Code: 2 Vergil Paperback Comic Book - .50 (IAP $1)

Non Finds BS -
I got out the door today at a pretty good time (about 7:45) and was out till about 12:15 and got to about 35 sales. I did see a good/fair amount of video games this week overall compared to last week.

The second sale I stopped at, when I asked about video games one of the ladies running things mentioned having some older games & systems but wasen't ready to sell them yet as if they are still used and mentioned having a ColecoVision in the box that she remembered paying $400 for. For every sale I buy an older system with games at I probably get close to 10 sales that a) mention having an older system(s) & games (maybe even mention being a retro gamer) b) I over hear the people having the sale mention somebody in the family who still has some old system as I walk away or c) mention some older system sold at a previous yardsale (usually in my case it was the "last" time they had a yardsale) and it's usually an Atari or Nintendo I hear about, just over the last 2 weeks I heard about 2 or 3 Atari systems with games sold at the last yardsale. I almost forgot d) takes my name and number and never gets back to me which almost happened to me at the house I got the NES games at today as the guy wasen't sure where the stuff was but went and checked and found it right away.

The house I got the NES games at only really had one other game that realistically is worth more then say a gallon of gas (SMB3). First time I've ever seen Mighty Final Fight in the wild and I just HAD to buy it even though I have it as I have a problem with buying games in the wild cheaper then what I got said game for online if it's a game worth more then a few bucks. This was also the first time I've seen TaleSpin used for the NES in the wild but I didn't bother re-buying it since it's only worth about what the guy wanted and I actually got it cheaper online then this guy's IAP per an NES game ($3.61 shipped). This bundle also had more sports games then most NES bundles (I'd guess close to 10 of them) and I passed on 2 boxed or complete games Fester's Quest (already have complete) & Bad New Baseball and only grabed TMNT since I've been hoping to find it complete and am pretty sure I already have a manual.

Two houses mentioned selling games already one was all/mostly kids stuff so it probably wasen't exciting (Edutainment?) & the other one didn't mention anything in particular and when this happens I guess that it was probalby a last gen system.

I don't know what to make of this or if I really believe it but at the one house the lady said that she sold an Atari in it's box with 6-7 games for $100!!!! My reaction was pretty much really? and the way she put it, it sounded like that was an offer from the guy as if she didn't have a price on it. I was interested in this and from what I gathered she though it might be worth $1000 or something more like that after the offer this buyer gave her and I told her but really couldn't explain well enough that she came out much better then good. I guess this would be a good example of why people don't price certain things at yardsales. With luck like that it probalby would have been better used buying a lottery ticket ;)

CML for that Final Fight, lol.
Are we haggling on the price?
I was thinking out loud, sorry. The Genesis box was $10, and the guy was firm. I wasn't about to try and haggle for it. Too many good games for my collection. :D

On another note, this has turned into the "one upping" thread. Makes me laugh.

Had a pretty solid morning today, hit up a community yard sale.
First up found a Top Loading NES 2 with 2 controllers (My Second THIS MONTH!) I was super stoked about that and then I found Final Fantasy Complete! But alas, there was no game in the box. Still a pretty awesome find because everything else is in there (maps manuals foam ect.) and is in pristine condition. He was asking 15 for the NES and 5 for the game, CIF $10 and walked away smiling.

100_3350.jpg

Found a few random games here and there, no need to haggle on most. Marvel UA/Forza XBox 360 -$2, Mystical Ninja -$1, Yars Revenge Complete Atari -$.50

100_3354.jpg

Came across a real nice guy selling books and found these for 50 cents a pop, not a big strategy guide collector but I had to have the Nights one.

100_3355.jpg

Lastly I found some Sega games, and I thought of all the flack I caught for not offering the last load I got up here before I shipped em to my Ebay site. Paid more for them than I wanted, but I have never seen ToeJam & Earl in the wild complete so I grabbed it. Wanted 10 a piece, settled on 10 for these three.

Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. Someone needs to send me one of those copies of Super Street Fighter II on the Genesis. I can't fucking find it anywhere. :/

We went to a community yard sale (amongsts a few others) yesterday. After 10+ in a few blocks and finding nothing but 2 books, we found...

Tales of the Abyss, complete. The guy wanted $5, but didn't have change for a $10, so I ended up paying $4 for it (all the small bills I had on me, even though my GF actually had 2x $1 coins, but we didn't want to use them).

What sucks was, there was a community garage sale last week or the week before with 30+ participants, we literally arrived at one right as some 40-50 year old lady picked up the collector's edition of (ps)Crash Bandicoot and (ps)Spiral, 3 jewel cases each. And they were selling it for $1 each =(

I think i may have a few extra copies of it from when i bought out a local store afew years back...they were literally selling games for cents on the dollar!!!

If i find it I will ship you one for $6 shipped.

That would be splendid -- I've been looking for a complete one for a while. What other gems do you have that might require the removal of money from my pocket? :D

uh, the pm feature is excellent ...

After a disappointing run at yardsales, I just went to a swapmeet.

Picked up (need camera)

- Top Gun: Second Mission (NES)
- Bionic Commando (NES)
both for $5.00

- Dragon Warrior (NES)
- Castlevania II: Simons something (NES)
both for $8.00

- The Legend of Zelda /w manual (NES)
- The Adventure of Link (NES)
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES)
for $15.00

- 5 NES dust sleeves
for $1.00

I first thought I did pretty well...but coming home it seems that I mostly paid the standard price for this game.

what do you want.....I probably have it....Pm me so people dont go crazy, lol.

OMFG I DIDN'T KNOW THIS EXISTED!!!! Seriously, I want one now. It must be *AMAZING* with Virtual On.
You overpaid.. Even for kids games, those are horrible.
Just thought I'd let you know that the Pokemon game I paid $1 for just sold on Ebay for $30. I don't think I overpaid.

Didn't get much today. Got out about 1 hour late since we had some storms this morning. Didn't find anything at the neighborhood I checked out.

I ended up cutting my yard saling short for the day. Went to see Iron Man 2. On the way home, I dropped by a neighborhood that doesn't usually have much in the way of stuff.

Found for $3:

Pokemon leaf green
Pokemon fire red
SW: Force unleashed PSP UMD only

The psp game wasn't in good shape, but I was hoping it would be playable for $1. It took forever to load.

I was looking on Lifehacker and they had an article about some yard sale planning software. Gsalr looks like it can find sales and plan a route.

I can tell that tomorrow is officially the first day of yard saling because the Friday garage sale listings on craigslist fill up the entire first page and half the second page.

although its fucking hot out here. according to weatherman it was 95 degrees out today, and that felt about right.

95 for you, and snow here right now. I don't think we're gonna have many sales this weekend, but we never get much up here anyways. I'm envious of some of you, with decent sales every weekend.

We have lots of sales here, once things get going. The problem is there is almost no game stuff.

Stopped by one yard sale today advertising video games, and picked up the following:

My Sims (DS)
Final Fantasy XII (DS)
Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (DS)
Alex Rider Stormbreaker (DS)
Thrillville Off the Rails (DS)
Spectrobe (DS)
Tetris DS case only :(
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (WII)
My Sims (WII)
Rayman Raving Rabids 2 (WII)
Tamagotchi: Party On! (WII)
Boom Blox (WII)

TOTAL: $12.00

Of course, it's TETRIS DS that turns out to have no game inside. Oh well. I'm pretty happy with the other games, especially considering that I got out an hour after the sale started :D They also had $1.00 Gamecube, GBA, and PC games but nothing interesting.

Went to a town yardsale today. I almost skipped this yard sale but then the person mentioned Nintendo.

10xt0kl.jpg

25jw6ms.jpg

It's a complete NES with Zapper, 17 games, and a gamegenie. One of the controllers has coloured buttons for some reason though. $25 for the NES lot.

I also went to another one. They had a SNES lot just like the one above, but I didn't want another console. I picked through the games and got these for a total of $5:

20755xe.jpg

Grey skies + Mothers Day weekend = crap sales.

Super Mario Bros. 3, Wheel of Fortune, Super Sprint (Tengen) - $5 all, each has plastic case with Nintendo logo.

Genesis:
F22 Interceptor-complete
Shining Force-complete
$1 each

PS1:
All Black Label
Syphon Filter-Free. Case and manual are minty, disc has prints/scratches. When I offered .50 to their dollar asking, the women said to take it. Awesome.
at another sale:
All mint & complete:
Apocolypse (Bruce Willis game)
GTA 2
Twisted Metal
Twisted Metal: Small Brawl
$1 each

Thats it gaming related this weekend, so far anyway.

P5080465.jpg

$2 for all PS1 games. Got them down from $2 each. :D

P5080464.jpg

$3 for all pictured. First time I have ever seen a TG-16 game in person.

P5080462.jpg

$5 total for Alice and the Z board. Alice is mint!

P5080466.jpg

50 cents for the gc controller.

P5080463.jpg

$5 total for 7 xbox games. crappy games but i'm not gonna pass up 7 for $5.
I would very much like that TG16 game. Damn you.
You could have it for like $5 shipped if you want. I don't have a TG-16 to play it on and was planning on just selling it to Bookman's.

Nothing in the morning. Two "community" garages both turned out to be 2 neighbors and small sales. Then after we came home, GF found a listing on craigslist ~15 miles away. Ended up picking up Super Puzzle Fighter II, Tomba!, Final Fantasy VIII, Lost in Blue 2 stylus, Spectral stylus, and two manga for $19.

Left Harvest Moon there, because for whatever stupid reason, I thought only the SNES one was worth any decent amount =( But at least I got Tomba! =P

Just went to a few yard sales today. The only place I found anything was the first garage sale I went to. There I got Genesis with 1 controller, wires, and 8 sports games for $8.

Finds -
Harvest Moon: Back To Nature (PS1, Complete)
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (PC, CIJ? No Manual)

$4

Second sale I was at Friday and this was probably about 8:15 I got to the sale. Marked 3 & 2, I offerd 3 for both and the guy countered with 4 which I agreed on.

The Chessmaster 3-D (PS1, Complete) - .50

I picked out two books at this sale then found this, no prices so I offered .50 for all which was taken no problem.

Sears Video Arcade II (With Messed Up Wire), Sears Video Arcade II Controllers x2 & Atari AC Adaptor.

Astroblast (Missing Label)
Bowling
Casino
Cosmic Creeps
Dark Cavern
Defender
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Frogger
M.A.D.
Pac-Man
Space Invaders
Space Jockey
Super Challenge Baseball
Yars' Revenge

$5

Asked about video games at my very fist sale Saturday and the guy brought out a box with this stuff. Pointed out the bad cord and offered $5 which was taken.

X-Men Mutant Apocalypse (SNES) With Dust Cover - $1

Was marked 2 took 1, also had NBA Hang Time for the SNES for the same price which I passed on since I have it.

Game Boy Soft Case - .25 (IAP)

Non Find BS -
Went to just over 40 sales between both days, close to 20 on Friday and a little over 20 on Saturday. I wasen't even sure if I was gonna go out on Saturday with the rain but I headed out at about 9:15 since the rain let up.

About 4 sales mentioned selling games/systems already but mentioned nothing or something Playstation so it didn't seem like I missed anything older. The sale I got Chessmaster 3-D at was one of them so it might have been PS1 on that deal.

First sale I went to friday had some CDs I picked up Sublime (ST) and no CD in the case, this is the third time I've seen the case for this CD at a yardsale for it to only be empty. They were having some sort of lack of checking things at this sale as they had a PS2 marked $50 and about 15 PS2 games with a few PS1 but all off to the side. I asked about them only to be told that they are all empty with the games missing somewhere in a CD book which was AWOL.

The sale I lucked out on getting Harest Moon at had a fair amount of games, PC, PS1, PS2 and even 2 PS3 games. Everything else was either priced at about what it was worth or a bit more with nothing else I was really interested in, they also had 2 GBA bundles each with 2 & 3 games only one really worth mentioning being Mario Kart and the bundles were marked $25 & $40. Only other overpriced thing I remember seeing was a PS1 with no games and 2 controllers marked $25 at a different sale Saturday.

I've actually never seen a Sears Video Arcade II before and figured it was a 7800 clone but looking it up I see that it just plays 2600 games and was designed to look like a 2800 which was also what the 7800 was designed to look like.

Everything I found (except for Chessmaster 3-D) I found within my first 2-3 sales either day. X-Men was at the 3rd sale on Saturday and the 4th sale had a GBA SP with 8 cart only games all at $20 which seems like a fair price at a yardsale but it was mostly disney type shovelware games so I passed even though it was a color I didn't have (pink) and all games I didn't own has I would never use any of it and would end up keeping it and not selling it as I should being nothing special for my collection. I figured $20 was too much to spend to feed the pack rat in me.

Passed on a JVC X'EYE today for $1. It was missing the power supply and the guy did not know if it worked. I did not know it was rare .They have been selling on EBAY for $60 to $90 even if they are having problems.

I went back and it was gone. :(

Everytime I pass up something I tend to regret it so I know how your feeling. I passed up an Intellivision 2 with about 25 games and the Voice Synthesizer at the Salvation Army for 10 Dollars. Needless to say I went back and it was gone and I searched ebay and saw it was somewhat valuable.

Most things are worth the shot at $1 or less. I know it doesn't help now, but keep it in mind for next time.

i went to a community sale yesterday, and didn't really find much video game related

I did get:
EA active sports (w/ all the accessories) - $7

everything else was mostly ps2 junk, and surprisingly several people selling rockband instruments, for close to original MSRP though

I agree wholeheartedly. At $1, you can still sell it as broken and make a profit. And if it works, hey, and X'Eye for a dollar.
