Official Amazon Quick Picks FAQ - READ 1st POST

:wii: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
:360: The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Decided to spring for both, though I may not end up keeping the preorders.
Starhawk 56.96
Game of Thrones S1 Blu ray 52.24
God dammit, I had the same game today but, get this, book 5 of GoT lol. I'll trade you picks. ;)

went to the quick picks today and i got a bunch of random crap again.. cat food, ect. This is getting really annoying.. BUT. the one non bs item i got other than the game: Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, was the Fruits Basket Limited edition id been wanting, woot! I was gonna go and try to clean up my picks and see what put the cat food in but i'll leave it be for now.

What time does this stuff roll over anyway, midnight?

Hmm wondering if i should snag Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga too. for 11 bucks sounds like a pretty good deal. Its been hovering around 14 for a while now. i wonder if it will drop below 10

That's awesome mate, glad it finally showed up for you. The actual time that picks roll over is not set in stone but usually by early morning they have reset. Picks are also not generated until you physically click the gold box link, which means you can do any last minute manipulation that morning.

Hey slowdive, do you remember what got GoT in your recs? I've tried using a few items I have on pre-order already (SW Collection, Pirates 4) to get it in my picks, but no dice this morning.

Jodou- I preordered Dark Souls Collector's Edition a day or two ago, other than that I didn't do anything special (I didn't touch my recommendations).

Today I got:

Record of Agarest War Zero - Limited Edition 56.99

Twisted Metal 56.99

White Knight Chronicles 2 56.96

Well, DS did not get me GoT but it did yield Star Wars: The Clone Wars S3. Put down an order for that and boom, there's a rec for GoT so I've got it tomorrow for sure. If anyone else is looking to pick it up, there's your faux pre-order item.

So now for some feedback. It's been almost two years running with this thread and I've been toying with some ideas to improve community involvement. You all probably noticed a long lapse and it was mostly due to me burning out a bit on keeping this updated (and I'm sure I wasn't the only one). Now I'm feeling fresh again, but I don't think that's enough. I want this to be more rewarding for you guys, the people who have taken the time to actually type out your picks almost daily and kept this going. A big thank you to everyone. That said, I've been brainstorming ideas of how to implement the wiki feature. Since only the OP can use this functionality, that would open up the FAQ to being altered which I'm not particularly fond of. I like knowing that everything there is tried and true, so there is no guess work involved. I'm not saying anyone would tamper with it, but it's entirely possible false information could be entered because it was perceived incorrectly.

That said, my foresight of using a reserved post means I could move the FAQ portion below the OP. However, this would mean integrating the expired picks with the FAQ which could cause confusion. Another downside is the thread might not get bumped nearly as much (and we already average maybe 2-3 posts a day lol). We also lose some visibility and historical accuracy without individual posts that we have now. I'm also curious as to whether the expired picks post is useful or has helped anyone in the past. I like the idea of having a list that people can turn to if they're unsure about something older, but in reality it might just present false hope if something is no longer eligible. Just food for thought.

Lastly, I've been wondering if expanding this to movies would help generate interest. The caveat is why not add music, or books, or strategy guides, etc. Since this is CAG the focus has always been video games, but even recently there has been interest outside of that. I probably sound like I'm trying to hold creative control over this, but the truth is there's nothing stopping anyone from making a separate thread for exactly those items. The point is nobody has and honestly there would be nothing stopping the OP from being expanded to those items, if wikied. My only goal is to keep this as a useful tool, and perhaps the FAQ accomplishes that alone. Do you guys feel we're fine right where we are or am I stifling the potential for a grander thread?

LOL, guess I scared everyone off. ;)

Got GoT S1 today along with Prey 2 PC and Oblivion 5th Anniversary PC. Also threw down an order for the Skyrim strategy guide from my picks, since these games are simply too large to just use internet guides with (fuck alt-tabbing).

hmm.. as far as expanding it to other items i dont think thats a very good idea. This is coming from the guy that was asking about an anime dvd =P From personal experience, once you start adding stuff like art book, strat guides, DVD's, ect. Your quick pick list can get very screwed up. Im still not entirely clear on what caused it but i had a period there where i had some really nonsensical stuff (makeup, cat food, kitchen accessories, power tools, ect)

Wikifiing it... not too sure. I'm not a big fan of wiki myself, the info, like you say, is not always accurate. Its kinda nice having an OP that keeps up with it that way the info is actually valid. In that regard though, what exactly is the expired picks listing? I never really explored it. Is it stuff that no one has seen in their picks for a while? whats the cut off date for it to disappear? I see some stuff in there that i woulda liked to see in my box =P

finally as far as moving the FAQ to the 2nd post; What would be the benefit to that? Maybe im missing it but i dont really see the point, i think it works pretty well where it is right now. Are you running out of room in the OP to add items?

anyway, just wanted to add i had a couple items added today i dont think red still was listed on the main page here

Persona 2 Innocent Sin (Shin Megami Tensei) for the PSP
Red steel for the Wii
Tales of Graces f

also worth noting i got the neat art book
Shigenori Soejima Artworks SC included too

hmm the little icons you can add dont seem to be working for the systems. Also, i noticed you have PSV on the main page instead of PSP. I dont know if thats a typo or your tying to add a psvita system, but the games listed are for the psp

Question: i dont really want to order persona 2 untill i verify if its a LE or what, does stuff in your quick picks have a chance of showing up again, or is it only once then its gone? hopefully someone can answer that soon because i need to order it today i believe. Im defintely getting the art book, not sure about the other stuff

hmmm dumb question maybe but whats GoT S1?

I'd say for the most part just stick with games/gaming related items.

The FAQ for people that don't know how to manipulate the quick picks is probably the most important part. It's why I originally checked the thread anyway.

I wouldn't really worry about making it a wiki thread if you want to do that. It can always be fixed if anyone messes it up.

Expired picks are items nobody has seen in a month or more. PSV is just a shift to include Vita games, just like 3DS might have old DS games. Picks can show up again, as early as the next day.

GoT is Game of Thrones.
LOL, guess I scared everyone off. ;)
Sorry, boss. I didn't get games for a few days so I didn't think to check the thread for anything but...

I do have one game to add.

:360: Oblivion 5th Anniversary

As for getting on fancy (wiki entry) I don't know... It could certainly work but the bumps are important for exposure. I guess one could always add a new post mention the changes in the wiki. (Like you said/already know if you do go wiki the FAQ and stuff needs to go to the next thread to protect it.)

As for expanding... I'm fine with it but there should be limits and it should have a fair amount of geekiness and a be a good deal.

Personally, I thought the knowing that Game of Thrones Blu-Ray was in quick picks was awesome... but then again people can just mention these items in new posts. They don't need official post 1/wiki entry.

Is this a blast from the past? Haha, what's with those dates and I thought Metroid Prime Trilogy was OOP?

All games and artbooks today:

:360: Record of Agarest War Zero (Limited Edition)
:ps3: No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise
:ps3: Move Sharpshooter

Ar tonelico Visual Book
Okami Official Complete Works
Atelier Series: Official Chronicle

I can add that the Silent Hill Collection popped up today! FYI, Amazon says it retails for $60 (which I doubt) but has it on sale for ~$40. Might be of worth to pre-order now just in case.

When ever I list a game I bought as "not interested" (I don't want it affecting my reccomendations) it never changes. It says "saved" but when I go back to the page it's like I never changed anything. Anyone know what I can do?

A bit off topic: For all Amazon users, What does it mean Trade Up to on the Amazon trade in? I just notice this and I think they never did it before awhile back. Is Amazon making it more difficult to trade stuff in?

I can say for a fact Legend of Zelda 3DS can be part of your quick picks. I've had it come up THREE times in a period of about two weeks.

It's tempting but I'm waiting for a copy in the mail.:bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked 37.99 3DS

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD 37.96 PS3

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Prima Official Game Guide [Paperback] 15.43

Time to brag:
QuickPicks-1.jpg

Spent forever ruffling through my 'not interested' list to uncheck Claymore and Eden, since back then I had no idea if they were any good. Flipped my Nausicaa purchase back to use for purchases and gave it 5*'s. I could have gone for Samurai Champloo and Sky Crawlers as well, but the above sets were enough for now. All too easy.

Got :wii: Monado/Xenoblade again today...

Decided to preorder it again (this is like the fourth time I've got it in my Quick Picks, preordered, and later cancelled), but basically only because it might help me get :ds: Devil Survivor 2 and :ds: Solatorobo.

There's a few others I will contribute when I remember or get time to sift through my e-mail confirmations/cancellations. :booty:

Appreciate it, but don't worry about sifting through all that. Just focus on what you get daily, because older stuff doesn't show up anymore for the most part.

Holy cow, all games today.

:ps3: Final Fantasy Versus XIII
:wii: Kirby Wii
:3ds: Resident Evil: Revelations
:ds: Professor Layton and the Last Specter
:ps3: The King of Fighters XIII

:ds: Monster Tale
:ps3: White Knight Chronicles II

No clue, but I'd assume so.

No, it includes MGS2, MGS3, and Peace Walker. Coming to the 360 as well.

Today's picks:

:psp: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin
:ps3: Yakuza 4

Do you know if it will be the complete versions of 2 and 3 (since 3 didn't have the extra content on the PS2 collection)

is the MGS package for 360 disc or download form?
Why they didnt add MGS 1?

The collection is definitely going to be a disc release, but it seems like they may be released individually on Games on Demand as well. I don't think they've said anything about the Subsistence bonus content being included or not.

There was an interview with Kojima where he said that the other games still looked acceptable using the same assets and just upping the resolution, but that MGS1 was too old and would have needed to be totally redone.
Anyone have an idea of what the price limit for Quick Pick items are? I don't think I've seen anything above $80, maybe $60.
I don't think there's a hard limit. The most expensive thing I've ordered from my Quick Picks was the Beatles mono box set, base price $229.49, Quick Picks discount of $11.47.

Today:

:ps3: Starhawk
Atelier Series Official Chronicle artbook

Like others I've seen higher... Back before SSFIV came out I saw the Mad Kat Tournament joystick. (It was like 150 bucks MSRP)

And speak of the devil...
