This thread’s primary purpose is to discuss Amazon.com’s new video game trade-in program. The trade-in deal will be updated whenever one is available, and a list of flippable games will be in the second post. PLEASE READ THE TRADE-IN DEAL DETAILS AND FAQ BEFORE ASKING ANY QUESTIONS.

Trade-In Procedure
1. Select Games: Games must be in good condition and your trade-in shipment valued at $10 or more
2. Ship Games FREE: Print a shipping label and packing slip, package your games, and ship them
3. Get a Gift Card: An Amazon.com Gift Card will be deposited into your account upon receipt of games

Shipping Instructions
1. Print this entire page. (Packing slip and shipping label once you have submitted a trade)
2. Cut out the shipping label and the packing slip.
3. Make sure your items are in good working condition and include the case and cover art.
4. Securely pack the items in a box or envelope and include the packing slip in the package.
5. Attach the shipping label squarely onto the outside of the package and add your return address.
6. Take it to your nearest UPS Store and mail it by (one week from submission of trade)
7. Or you can ship to:

Trade-In Product Eligibility
Trade-in items must match the exact version displayed in the Amazon Trade-In Store, not be damaged, include original packaging (e.g. the manual, cover art, and case), and be postmarked no later than 7 days after submission. You will receive an e-mail confirmation and an Amazon.com Gift Card will be deposited into your account within 2 business days of item receipt and verification by the merchant. Items not accepted by the merchant will be returned to you approximately 14 days after receipt.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Well, they apparently have another way of killing the promo when they want (though this may very well not be intentional). I haven't been able to add anything to my trade-in cart for about 5 hours now. So there goes the L4D deal.

Edit: Never mind - tried a different computer and it worked fine. Strange, because I can do everything else from this one... Oh well, got in at the last minute ;). Can't wait to see what's next!

YMMV. If I were you though, I wouldn't chance it.

Way, WAY, too YMMV. Plus with all the reports of discs being switched, cracked, etc., it'd be better if you did it with something like Patapon 2. Ico is kind of a big ticket item, very high TIV. Patapon 2, on the other hand, is a lot less risky, but I'm just using Patapon 2 as an example because it's the DOTD.
 
ICO for $31 is a joke. Copies of that game are borderline impossible to find right now in any condition, let alone mint and complete. On top of that, its selling for $50-$60 on ebay right now.

Oh well, I needed a break from submitting trades anyway - need to get a few things to fill out those last few anyway.
 
I'm guessing there's no way to go back a week and get in on that 50% off an accessory deal is there? I haven't been keeping up with this stuff and had no idea it would work on a TE stick.

Not to mention if it's mint sealed...xdl is right though, you'd be crazy to trade-in any type of condition of this game.

It would be if that's what I was doing. There are 3 different games. I wont be sending in more than 2 of the same game on the same account. Anyway, people on here have reported sending in 8 copies of the same game in one transaction no problem.

Yeah, this isn't Gamestop. I don't see why it should matter if you turn in 20 copies of a game. If Amazon and NorAm have figured out they can make x number of dollars for each game traded in, wouldn't they be happy to make 20x? I think Gamestop's hostile business practices just have us paranoid. Trading in 20 of a game shouldn't mean you're a thief, it should mean you're resourceful...unless of course you stole the games.

Me neither. The gift certificate ought to come fast after they accept your package (about 24 hours by my experience), and then about 48-72 hours for the extra $30.

Doesn't matter how big they are. They're not making a profit on everything we send them. There are obvious examples like Rugby '06
 
When I did my last trade-in, I sent 5 copies of Prince of Persia in the same transaction. Along with one copy of Sonic!

Sent in my trade-ins Thursday morning from Cincinnati & got my credit yesterday afternoon. I imagine I'll have the coupon tomorrow morning.

So my amazon gold box still sucks. Got another Hoover vacuum in it. My 'Recommendations' page is perfect. I see xbox live points, fighting games, te stick, panasonic digital cameras, etc, etc. I know i've done everything as directed. Hopefully my box starts showing these items soon.

There's definitely examples on the other side like Rugby 06, but do you think anybody was tracking down 10 copies of that? I can't imagine. I tried pretty hard and came up with 2. Most the games we would send huge multiples of are things like SFIV, which even at Trade-in of the Day prices, they'll have no problem getting a lot more than $20 for.

Amazon credit is cash, seriously. You can buy entire wardrobes, furniture, electronics, jewelry, games, food and the list goes on and on. For that fact alone trading in to amazon beats nearly every competitor, plus you get additional game coupon bonuses.
 
Does anyone know if Fallout 3 (Xbox 360) has been the Trade-In of the Day recently? I was thinking about trading it in to buy a copy of the Game of the Year edition instead, but if it might be a Trade-In of the Day soon, I might try to wait for that.

I don't think so but trading in a regular edition or a GOTY edition doesn't really matter since they only list the regular one.

Yeah, the GOTY edition isn't out until October. I'm hoping to trade in my regular edition and use the credit from that to buy the GOTY edition. I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and trade it in now or wait a week or two to see if it's Trade-In of the Day one day.

He's saying he wants to trade in his regular edition and buy a game of the year edition when it comes out. I did the same thing. I traded in my regular edition at GS for 22.50 with the 50% bonus for a total of 33.75. I bought the collectors set new for $40, so I only lost $6.25 to play the regular game and keep the lunchbox, bobblehead, and artbook. I'm going to buy the game of the year edition in October or whenever it comes out.
 
Well I just sold 119 dollars worth of games... including my copy of ICO. I might not actually send it in (I haven't decided yet).

Scoff if you must but I haven't owned a PS2 in the last two years and it wasn't doing me any good. PS3... here I come!

It took them a week and a half "investigate" the situation, but they did finally mail me a 50% off code. One of the games in my shipment was rejected for having a crack in it (which it didn't when I mailed the game) and that had taken me below the $50 mark.

Yeah, no kidding. Certainly in terms of any sort of bonus promo that's the case. Of course, Gamestop does give cash at 20% less than the base value (bonus promos don't apply). And yet it amazes me how many people go in with a stack of games and want cash for them. This happened at least 3 or 4 times while I was waiting to trade stuff using the 40% bonus promo. These people, even when told what they'd get with the bonus promo, still want the much smaller amount of cash. I always figure in that case they are stolen or something because if they truly played all the games they brought in you'd think they'd want twice as much in credit vs cash to get other games. For example, say 6 games were worth a base of $20. They'd only get $16 cash vs $30 with the promo + Edge.

Though I suppose some people may view Gamestop credit as somewhat worthless (even if they are being stupid about it and going and buying Madden 10 at Target for $59.99 because of a $5 gift card or something lame like that instead of taking the extra credit at GS and getting it there). However, as the quote above shows, there's almost no way you could consider Amazon credit to be worthless. Yeah, sure, an equivalent amount of cash would be better, but you aren't going to get that with these trade-in promos. Part of the trade-off is that you get store credit - but I can't think of more useful store credit than at Amazon. I only wish they had started this last year before I bought my HDTV from there in Dec ;).

Anyway, back to the trades. I was very relieved to see that one of my trades sent in early last week was fully-accepted today - no "damaged - cracked" or BS like that. It was 4 Wii games, all in the cheesy non-Nintendo brand cases (they were the original cases for the games but some Wii games come with pretty bad ones). I mailed these in before I had the other one rejected as "cracked" but I do remember very specifically that the games were very hard to get out of the cases and I could easily see someone snapping one if they tried without pressing the center tab. It was just barely over $60, too, so it was good they all went through. I've got lots more on the way, though, to still be nervous about ;).

I went out today and picked up a few Left 4 Dead at GS. Good thing I checked the discs afterwards because while the guy gave me the best ones they had, and the disc surfaces looked good, one was pretty clearly cracked in the center. It probably wouldn't have effected game play because it was just the clear plastic part, but for sure it would get rejected (as I would expect it to in that case).

Did you get delivery confirmation added to it? If not (or it doesn't show delivered yet) you have to give it more time. The ones I just had accepted today I sent on the 27th. But media mail is highly variable and it can definitely take longer. My first trade to them took 15 days just to get there.
 
So I'm still waiting for a great Gold Box deal to take advantage of that + the ECA discount + the $30 off code. But WTF? Today I only had 4 things offered. The good news is 2 of them were games. The bad news is that they were Club Penguin and Retro Atari Classics for the DS :bomb:.
 
If you want more games to show up, go to your "Improve your recommendations" section and check the "Don't use..." on anything that isn't a game (including game related hardware).

It seems your most recent purchases have the highest influence on what you get. Followed by highest rated items in the recommendations section. Then any unchecked items. Anything you buy is automatically added as an uchecked item.
 
Still waiting on two games to arrive to ship em to amazon for this deal. So far only my psp city of GTA has dropped, 75 cents. Wish I could trade in mgs portable ops, but when I went to look for it it's only a generic gamestop cover with no manual. Doubtful they'd take it.

If they refuse a game, do I get hit with any charges for shipping it back to me? It's worth like 8.50(or was) and I don't really want it, might as well try and trade it.

When i checked my gold box yesterday i noticed a Hannah Montana in there. I was actually pleased! Finally a game in my box! But no!!! Upon closer inspection it was just her music CD. It looks just like one of her games :bomb:

I totally went through all that. My recommendations are great. But my gold box quick picks suck.
 
HOLLYWOOD VIDEO?
Anyone trade-in games with the Hollywood Video cover art? How did it go?

The back of the cover art usually has game instructions. But the barcode is the same as the regular cover art so im thinking they will be accepted.

Um, yeah, I did all that - didn't change much of anything. I'm still getting mostly kids books from purchases 4-5 years ago and that is after removing every one I could from the recommendations. All my recent purchases the last year or so have been games.

I think you can remove those from being used in your recommendations. I removed a few textbooks and an mp3 player i bought over 2 years ago and now I'm getting more games. Prof layton, WS resort, and GOW3. No CoD:MW2 yet...

Quick question, I'm waiting for a price drop on the PS3 (Coupon lasts until 12/31/09) but there are some games I want to buy before that happens. Amazon keeps automatically trying to apply my trade in credit. Is there a way to deactivate this feature until I am ready to use it? Any help is much appreciated.
 
I have three things on my recommendations: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Saw, and Assassin's Creed II for PS3. Here's to hoping they show up in the Gold Box...

I had this problem too. What I did was I preordered 2 copies of Mass Effect 2, and used the credit on those, since it doesn't release for a long time it gives you then long to keep your credit. Just simply cancel your order (in my case Mass Effect 2) before it ships and you get all your credit back. It works as a placeholder.

If you want cash try a Walmart that is doing the trade in kiosk program. I think some BBY will eventually give cash too. Those are probably the highest values for straight cash.

I think I remember reading about at least one person who was able to get a HWV cover art game accepted, but also at least one who did not. It's probably ymmv like the others though more of a probably not.

I think some people just really need the cash at times. I bet a lot use it to help pay bills, etc.
