FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
My gold box is finally starting to show items i kinda have interest in. Seems like pre-ordering Gears 2 GOTY is helping. I now have a 360 wireless controller, Logitech G15 keyboard, and some video game books in my gold box :)

To reiterate. It seems that i have done all the tricks except buy an actual video-game product. Now that i have done so, it is starting to work.
It takes a bit of work, but you CAN manipulate the gold box deals a bit. In your profile, there's a section that lists all the things they "recommended for you". Select all unrelated (ie non-gaming stuff) "not interested". Then go to this of all your previous purchases. Again, select all unrelated stuff as "don't use this for recommendation". By the next day, your gold box listings should be much better.

By the way, where is the appropriate forum to BEG for the 50% off code? Are these codes transferable? I didn't think I needed any big ticket item, but realized the Beatles Rock Band could make a great gift for my mom. (she liked rock band 2 when she visited me, but said she wished they'd have Beatles songs - this was before I knew they were releasing Beatles Rock Band).

Thanks. Yes i have done all those things last week. There are actually a few of us in here that have done the same yet still have a poor gold box. I'm optimistic that it will eventually improve. Buying something game related seems to be the biggest influence.

Your best bet to get a 50% off code is to start a thread in the Trade sub-forum. Offer up some games or cash in exchange for a code. Yes, i have personally confirmed that the 50% codes can be used on any account.

Alright, I have a question. I think someone posted a while back that the $30 off promo will work (as in take a full $30 off) with multiple items in your cart even if none of them is over $30 (but the total, of course, is over $30)? I have Disgaea 2 PSP in my Gold Box and it will only be $23 or so after that + ECA. I'm looking right now for some cheap game filler but that is kind of hard - I am looking at DS sorted by price low to high and it doesn't seem to work - the prices are all jumbled up ($19.99 followed by $6.98, etc).

Edit: And to answer my own question, yes, you can. This is all sorts of awesome:

Shipping Method: FREE Super Saver Shipping
Shipping Preference: Group my items into as few shipments as possible
Subtotal of Items: $35.74
Shipping & Handling: $5.48
Gold Box Discount: -$1.40
Super Saver Discount: -$5.48
Pre-order Guarantee: -$0.00
Magazine Promotion: -$0.00
Promotion Applied: -$3.57
Promotion Applied: -$30.00
Credit Upon Ship: -$0.00
------
Total: $0.77
Gift Cards: -$0.77
------
Total for this Order: $0.00

Shipping estimate for these items: September 14, 2009 1 "New Zealand Story: Revolution"
Video Game; $7.75

Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC
1 "Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days"
Video Game; $27.99

Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC

Yeah, New Zealand Story Revolution is not something I need but I had to return my $6 Kmart copy because they wouldn't price adjust it for me when it dropped to $2 (and I couldn't fathom keeping it knowing it should have been cheaper ;)). So I can sort of sneer at Kmart now for not doing that and essentially get it for free. Yay!

The funny thing about these $30 promo codes is that I'm really not spending very much of the $60+ in trade credit I get along with each code. Well, not so far, anyway, as my 2 purchases have been PSP games.

Once again I no longer have a code - I should be getting one tomorrow AM based on the 2-day period from trade-in acceptance that they seem to be taking. If I get awesome stuff in my gold box tomorrow and don't have one, though, I'll be pissed at myself for making this order.

I could never get that working on amazon either.
I could never get that working on amazon either.
Yeah, at first I thought maybe it was just because they were OOS at Amazon and it was showing me third party pricing. That does happen as there are some things that are $50 or $100 simply because that's what Amazon Marketplace sellers have them for. But there are Amazon super-saver shipping items that are out of order too and those ought to be sold via Amazon directly.

In the end, it sort of worked - I was able to see lots of cheap stuff it just took many pages of views instead of simply getting all the sub-$10 stuff on a couple of pages.

I have a suggestion for the OP, though, after going through this exercise.
We should put together a list of cheap (sub-$10) video game items that are eligible to use with the $30 promo for those times when we want to do just as I did - buy something that comes out under $30 after all the other discounts. I'm sure there's something better I could have gotten but I didn't want to spend much more time on it. I saw Jam Sessions pretty cheap but already have that. I wonder if you can get a PSN card or something too? That probably would have been a better use of the money (even though it would have cost more credit).

RealTriggers

This is the first thing that came to mind. It has 123 reviews and an average of 4.5 stars. I'm blown away by its popularity

Beautiful Katamari

Xbox 360

Trade-in Value: $21.00

I still have a 50% off coupon to trade. I was hoping to get maybe 2 $30 coupons for it.

I'd be up for other offers too. its just I dont know if I want any big ticket items since i already got my TE stick and MW prestige.

Hm I finally got uncharted 2 in my gold box. However I don't know if I should bite on it just yet as I'm still waiting for my $30 coupon. My trade in's were received on Thursday. I'm wondering if I should risk waiting to see if my coupon will show up today since the goldbox already gives me an addition $2+ discount...

Yeah, so I knew if I used my $30 code before getting a backup one there would be something I wanted in my Gold Box - and there it is, Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. I could still get the code for my trade received on the 7th here in the AM or tomorrow night in time to use on it. We'll see...

you can use "slickfillers" on slickdeals. pretty self-explanitory, but just check the boxes of what categories you want to include, add a keyword if you want, and adjust the price you need to get to what you want (i.e. want to get item that is $27.99, need $2.01 for the coupon to work, enter $2.01 into box). it says for free shipping as it was set up for the free super saver shipping, but will work with this promo also.

http://slickdeals.net/slickfillers/

Wow, thanks - that is pretty slick ;).

I did a quick check and didn't see anything astonishingly better than New Zealand Story. There is that HSM3 game with dance pad for 360 though - I remember seeing that mentioned on CAG a long time ago. I'm surprised they still have it in stock. I may just have to get that for laughs if I need another ~$7 filler item.

Wow, I had no idea that Beautiful Katamari has increased in value so much.... I never even got around to opening the copy I picked up on the cheap ;)

Well, 3rd strike and I'm out. Got shot down trying to get DC added at the third PO, so I just sent it off as is. They postal clerk claimed that it couldn't be added to business reply mail and that the package would be sorted with the other business reply mail and not subject to any DC scans...which may be why the earlier clerk refunded my $0.80 and that package is still at the acceptance stage after 1 week.

I'm tired of it. Too much wasted time/gas trying to get DC so I'm just going to forget about it.

It's strange how much variation people are getting from the post office on this issue. It would be nice if Amazon just gave customers the option to add delivery confirmation at their expense, at the time the trades are locked in - especially since media mail has such a wide range of transit times, even irrespective of location.

I've sent in six trades so far - the first two I dropped off at the UPS Store with no DC; the last four I dropped off yesterday morning, and had no problem adding delivery confirmation to all of them (although obviously none have progressed past the acceptance stage yet, so I can't call it a definite success).

So techincally you could pre oreder a game that isn't coming out for awhile and then your gold box might give you better deals, then just cancel the preorder?

I'm still get MJ cd's and note cards in my gold box =(

Correction for the 1st post. Here is the actual address amazon instructs us to ship to...

Ship your games and movies to:

NorAm International
Postage Due Unit
25 Church Street
Hudson, MA 01749

Yeah, give it a shot and let us know how it goes. My gold box picks were much better 24hrs later. No need to use your coupons if you have no interest in actually keeping the pre-order. Canceling is easy as well.

I'm looking at my second account which has no purchase history. I rated and marked as owned on several gaming items....it still shows generic picks :bomb:

Well, Its been 2 weeks now. I sent 2 packages on the same day to amazon to get 2 $30 promos. They received both, but I only got the code for 1. Starting to get a little worried :whistle2:?

damnit...sent in my two copies of BK two weeks ago :( Only 10 bucks each :(

I bought them for 1.97 each though...but 19 dollars of profit would have been good.

My order was accepted Friday afternoon, I hope I get the $30 code today because Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is in my Gold Box...

Pre ordered mass effect 2, we'll see if it works out tomorrow.

It has been 2 weeks since they received them or they just received them in the last few days? Did you get credit for both or are you saying you only got one code?

My order received yesterday still says "Processing" so I guess I need to wait till tomorrow for any resolution on that. That really has me worried, though. I wish that slbrey character was a little more useful and less abrasive in his posts. He said his order also said "Processing" but somehow he knew they got rejected. Then he never followed up on what the rejection reason was, which would be useful info for the rest of us .

Mirrors Edge PS3 dropped to $6.25 from $7.00. Saints Row 2 360 stayed at $10 while the PS3 version jumped from $8.25 to $11.00! Definitely re-submitted my order, was right about to send my package out... good thing I checked.
Why isnt the OP changing the Trade In from Parasite Eve?
Probably because not every CAG'r spends 24/7 on his or her computer/CAG...relax.

@ IO

The Ion is great, but be warned that you will need a new pedal. My stock Ion pedal stopped working on the second day. It wasn't too bad that it died since it was a shitty pedal to begin with. It's wired also. They don't sell the modules only so you'll have to either pick 360 or ps3. It's definitely worth it. No dropped hits and incredible rebound.

I'll have to admit I'm having a hard time playing Everlong because I'm so used to pounding on my drums to do songs of that speed. With the Ion you don't need to do that anymore so I have to get used to it. I haven't had any problems with the cymbals, but I haven't really used them. I gotta get around to that Battery run using only the green cymbal.

You can also adjust the pads to your likes. Whether you put them at angles or further apart you'll find a placement thats comfortable for you.

If your not sure what to use your coupon on the Ions are a very good bet.

Got notice of my first rejected game after 15 separate trade in orders or so. Don't recall there being anything that stood out among the games in that batch.

Make sure you check the email for both codes, people have mentioned in the past that both codes were included in 1 email but they were not told they would.
Hey I got a question. Couldn't I just give the mailman my shipping package instead of going to the post office?
I don't see why not, but to be frank,

A) I don't trust a mailman enough to ensure that it gets to the local post office, and find its way eventually to its final destination

B) Are general mailmen (those that deliver mail, not pickup) even legally given the right to accept mail and/or packages?

C) Again, I don't trust a mailman enough to ensure...

Suggestion: Take the package to your local PO yourself...put the controller down for a few minutes, get a bit of sun, and mail the package yourself ;)
Hey I got a question. Couldn't I just give the mailman my shipping package instead of going to the post office?
Nope.

The only classes of mail for packages that postal carriers will pick up is First Class Mail, Priority Mail and Express Mail. Media Mail, which is how the trade-in shipments are being sent in with the pre-paid label, aren't applicable to be picked up by a postal carrier.

You have to go to the post office to drop it off with the pre-paid shipping label.

Hmmm, see i suppose this is more ymmv, but here in Naperville, IL. I have put around 3 of these packages in my mailbox and put the flag up and had the mailman take it for me and delivery ended up fine. May just be a freak incident in which my mailman will do this for me, im not sure. the other 2 I have done have been at the actual post office.

I've sent out a number of boxes via postage paid media mail and had my mail carrier pick them up, without ever having a problem. They were boxes of books, too, and therefore much heavier than the boxes of video games the people on this forum are presumably sending.

damn it! i sent in my copies of mario party 2 and 3 last month (as part of the last promo) for half the value they have today...worst part is i didn't even need to send them in, i was already over the required TIV amount...bah

This week is a slow week for flips thanks to the crappy gs madden coupon.

Anyways, does anyone know if you can add money to your edge card to save on tax when buying games at gamestop for flipping? i know the best way would be to flip games to gamestop in the first place to get the credit to buy games to flip to amazon, but ive never been able to get a decent flip to them, and its much harder not knowing the exact trade in value for every game like you do with amazon (and the fact that amazon gives better promotions so far).

Getting worried :cold::cold:
I'm in exact same situation with one of my trades. That really isn't that long. Though, like you I'm sure, I expected it early in the AM on the 9th. But seriously, it is only 1 day later right now - and the weekend may have something to do with that. But since we're both in the same boat, that makes me feel better - maybe they just don't generate codes Sunday AM. If anyone else got one recently that would help.

I'm more worried about the submission that has been marked as "Processing" since Saturday AM. I'm worried that they are "processing" to send it all back for some dumb-ass reason. Hopefully I'm wrong and it is just on hold for a supervisor review Monday AM or something since I didn't send everything in.

And FWIW, all my promo codes (4 so far: 1 $75 off system code, the 50% one, and 2 $30 codes) have been received within the very narrow window of 12:59 AM through 2:08 AM Pacific, with three of them right around 1 AM pretty much. So we are there right now - hopefully we get a batch generated here soon!

So they do give codes on Sunday.

Well, 2am, and nothing yet. I also haven't gotten the code for a trade accepted Saturday AM.

At least we're in this together - if one of us had gotten it and not the other that would be more reason to worry ;).
