FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

It would be great if we could put this in the FAQ (that multiple codes often come in 1 email), as it is a question that tends to come up often.

If you can find any @ Target, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles echoes of Time for the DS trades into Amazon for $16.50.

Target has them for $9.98. GOOD LUCK!!!
Does anyone know if you can use a $75 off consoles and a $30 coupon on the same order? Also anyone have a $75 console code they'd trade for a 50% off code?
So, has anyone been bold enough to try this yet? I'd definitely go for the slim if I could stack the two.
Ok so I submitted my first trade today:
3 x Folklore (4.97) at Sears = (9) Amazon
Civilization (4.97) at Sears = (19) Amazon
Motorstorm PR (14.48) at Target = (15.50) Amazon

Pretty pleased with changing $31 into 91.50 in Amazon credit, but I have a question. Should I open the games or leave them sealed?
Ouch - could have done so much better with Folklore on eBay. Also, I want MotorStorm PR - so the next person that finds one so cheap at Target needs to PM me first before dumping it at cost to Amazon ;).

Yeah, I actually got two today. But I think I'd rather keep them to play multiplayer with my son rather than just get $33 for them at Amazon. That's the equivalent of one new DS game pretty much (not counting half a $30 coupon).

Speaking of which, I have FF Crystal Chronicles The Crystal Bearers on my gold box today for $47.49. I'm not too sure I want to go for that one yet though. I only had 4 items total today and two were games. The other was Steal Princess for the DS which I've had at least 2 other times. Amazon really wants me to buy that I guess!

Anyway, maybe I'll try the $75/$30 coupon stacking tonight ;).
Just gonna throw this out there. Willing to trade 3 $30 codes for the $75 code.
Very tempting and I'd definitely have taken you up on that if I wasn't expecting 9 more $30 codes to come in the next few days ;).

any good flips at gamecrazy, b1g1 50%?

aslo i stopped by target and best buy to try and find maybe some clearance games. Bestbuy had a few good ones but they were sold out. But nothing at target, the target always ahs the clearance games at ridiculous prices. Like $40 for L4D still!. Arghh

- has anyone successfully used two $75 console codes on the same account?

- has anyone successfully transfered a $75 code to someone? I'd buy it for cash but I'm afraid it won't work and then there's this back and forth and things get messy.

thanks

The codes are weird. I know that once you activate one, it sticks to your account until you use it. Thats why i'm holding off on ordering Guitar Hero 5....its trying to use a 50% off code on a $60 game and i definitely don't want to do that (i'm waiting for a $30 code to come in but when it does i still won't be able to tell which code is being used!!!!). I can't undo the 50% code and even amazon CSR said they can't undo it.

Here's the issue. I'm wondering if that means the 50% code is now locked on my account and unable to be traded!

OT: if anyone has extra an 50% code I should have a good offer for you next week. I need just one more :D

Hey confoosious to answer your question, yes i have read of people that have successfully traded codes.

What i would like to know is if the original owner of the code applied it to their own account before the trade.

^ yes, it will automatically try and apply it to your next video game purchase, so be careful and don't order something cheap and use it by accident. (you dont get the code back)
Hey confoosious to answer your question, yes i have read of people that have successfully traded codes.

I just tried using a code I had previously entered on a different account, and it says it has already been redeemed (though I have not actually used the code on a processed order). So, it appears as though the codes can not be traded after being entered on an account.

Sort of sucks, as I do not intend on buying anything over $59.99 and trading it for $30 codes would have been a good idea. There's always sending the item as a gift, but I am not sure if anyone would want to hassle with that.

I can verify that the $30 codes, in any case, can be used on a different account. I got a few on my wife's account but wanted to do the purchase on mine. No problem there. I think all three codes are like others are saying: you can enter them on any account but once you do, even if you don't go through with the purchase, it stays there. That makes sense though - otherwise things would get confusing.

Any recommendations for buying multiple cheap games to add up to $30 instead of only 1 or 1 and filler, for the $30 code?

if you buy a game online at gamestop used, you can just return it to a store no questions asked right if its not complete?

ZOE 2nd is TOTD $19. $20 online and in stock
if you buy a game online at gamestop used, you can just return it to a store no questions asked right if its not complete?

Yep, you should be able to return it.

Keep in mind ZoE 2 is worth $30-$40 on eBay in nice condition (as it would have to be for Amazon). I actually have one sitting here that I have been meaning to list. Unless I can get other stuff to go with it, it isn't worth sending to Amazon. And I'd only get other stuff if a good GS coupon comes out Friday - and in that case I'd have plenty of other stuff to send and wouldn't bother with ZoE 2 ;).

... anyway, waiting anxiously for all my codes from the batch they just received. I'm only getting one today, though, if they follow the 2-day rule. Tomorrow, though, will be nice! Anyway, I liked it better when they did them at 1-2 am. Now they seem to be waiting till 5 or 6.

One of the best ps2 games of all time. It's short. If you buy it to trade it in, beat the game first and wait till the last day to send out!!

my ps2 playing days ended when my last slim broke. I played ZOE 1. I am still holding out until a new BC PS3 comes...which will be never.

I've been looking for a good flip for a while now, and this seems like a no risk thing for me to try giving gamestops return policy is useful. I can just say theyre not complete so I dont want them.

Thanks. Thats exactly what i wanted to know. It does suck and my next purchases tricky. I gotta order a ZuneHD first which is another long story in itself, then DJ Hero: Renegade Edition to use up my 50% code, then i can finally order Guitar Hero 5. All this before 8/31! :bomb:

V4OLDBOY, you can definitely order online and return in store. The online policy is 30 days on USED instead of 7 for in-store USED purchases. Sometimes i order two of the same game online and keep the best condition'd one. No problems with returns even if its disc only.

thenockmlb, couldn't you preorder something with your 50% code now then buy what you want and cancel the preorder, thus freeing up your 50% code again?

Yep, I've done that before, but what Japakneez asked was about using a code on Account A after entering it (but not redeeming it) on Account B.

First time trying the service out. Hope to god my games go through. There are some that are iffy (and barely but anything that isn't perfect has me worried) and I really want one of those coupons.

It's worth the risk. I only had one trade rejected for missing disc. Later found it under my kids bed. Guess I should have checked the box before shipping.
I also had games with Hollywood video reprint covers getting accepted. They use the original UPC, so i guess they were just scanned and didn't notice the different back.
im scared. According to tracking my 3 orders were received today. They were all in one box but thats not what im worried about. I'll update why as soon as i find out if they are accepted or not

...probably won't find out till tomorrow :booty:
All around good news for me today. It worked! 10 of the games i sent in had re-printed cover art and they were all accepted. They were spread across all 3 orders so it could have been disastrous had it not gone through

I don't think i'll do it again. Cost me a bit of color ink LOL

My Endless Ocean blitz got accepted. Not that I was worried about that, they were all in perfect condition. Just waiting on my $30 coupon.

I've figured out how to control my quick picks for the most part. The only thing I can't seem to figure out is how to control the number of items offered. I've had anywhere from 1-5 (maybe 6) items at any given time. It sucked yesterday when all I had available was a blue PS2 controller. Today I have 3 games, but nothing great.

i've had nothing but blu-rays for my quick picks. i did every suggested and still got a different set of blu-rays each day. finally got annoyed last night so i preordered assassin's creed 2 just to see if it would change things. today i had 2 games in my goldbox.

I received credit for the 2 packages that I sent from SoCal on Monday / August 10. now just waiting for the coupon. No more USPS for me... UPS from now on.

Yeah, purchases are the major factor in gold picks. Here's a new concept I'm working on: instead of just rating 'like' games, I'm going to start pre-ordering them instead (since it costs nothing and you can cancel anytime). I have a feeling this will net me the games I really want much faster.

Let us know how that goes and I might try it myself.

Most recent history and actual money spent is always a factor in this kind of thing. If you make sure to use your Improve Your Recommendations section after buying non-games to make sure they don't get used for recommendations, it helps a lot. My most recent purchases were a shirt and DVDs and I still manage to get game stuff doing things that way.

The weirdest thing is one day it said I rated an iPod (which I didn't), and for some reason items like a Brita Water Filter were showing up because of it....

Some of the weirdest crap shows up for some things. The more mainstream/popular the item, the more it gets associated with random crap in their system, I guess. Buy a unisex type shirt and you may start getting underwear for the opposite gender (or both) in your gold box. That said, it's a good idea to mark the most popular games, and all gaming hardware, to not be used for recommendations.
The weirdest thing is one day it said I rated an iPod (which I didn't), and for some reason items like a Brita Water Filter were showing up because of it....
Quick Picks are rigged for sure, because everyone here has got the Brita water filters at least once. I'm on my third appearance of those damn things.

Amazon finally figured out the trick of backing up your browser to submit the same order (easily) multiple times. I like to do this because I have about 7-8 games that I am willing to trade in at the given price, so I do multiple orders of those same games to then change if the values go up or down. That way I can still send 3 orders of $60+ out the door without losing values. Oh well, now I have to create each order from scratch twice a week. Not a big deal, but obviously I wasn't the only one doing this if they changed it.
Can someone link me to an explanation of quick picks and how to get stuff I want to show up?
Just google amazon quick picks. You'll get plenty of links. There's about 3-5 methods of manipulation. Some people go for specific items, others go for categories.

Depending on what you're going for and how much stuff you've bought from Amazon and games you already own, you may have to spend quite some time working on it. For instance, my current combined rated items and items marked as not interested is about 1000. I own hundreds of games though, so that's not too bad. A lot of it was weeding out things I already have...and game guides.

What I do, when I want to make duplicate trade in orders, is I add everything I want, then go back to the trade in store and open the Submit Trade-Ins link in different tabs. So if I want to make 5 of the same trade ins, I open it in a new tab 5 times. Then you just submit in each tab. Works for me!

I sent in my 3 Endless Oceans a week ago, and they recieved them last friday. I still have not gotten the credit or promo code. What gives?

are you calling amazon stupid? touche.

I was going to ask if anyone has been getting codes. I think someone said they got one yesterday but they didn't say when their games had been received. I had one set received Monday and expected a coupon code this morning but it didn't come. So maybe we're back off the 2-day schedule again?

OK, I was going to tell Estebon that he should worry then if his were received Friday and he hasn't gotten the code but then I just realized he said he hadn't gotten the credit yet either. Estebon - if I were you I'd look at your trade-in page on Amazon and see if they are stuck at "Processing". I had one order sit there for about 4 days. I finally wrote to Amazon and NorAm and the next day it went through. It could have been coincidence because Amazon just said to wait longer and NorAm didn't respond.

Now, if it is still showing "not yet received" you may also want to contact them - I assume you have DC or UPS tracking showing delivery last Friday then?

As for the codes, did anyone get one TODAY from trades received Monday? I'm hoping they just decided to skip a day like they have in the past but if others are getting them from then I need to contact Amazon.

Of course, like I said earlier, tonight/tomorrow AM is the big one - I should be getting several codes from Tuesday's deliveries. We'll see - not too hopeful given I didn't get the one from Monday yet.

Luckily nothing too exciting showed up in my gold box quick picks. I got a few games but nothing I'm dying for (Phantasy Star 0, Gran Turismo 5, and a few other DS games I have no interst in whatsoever). At least I have games in there though...

I have done this and posted about it.

I preordered Mass Effect 2 and then the next day started getting all game quick picks.

Even got AAA titles like SMG 2 and Halo 3: ODST.

However, it seems like that lasted only ~6 days and I'm back to dvd's and toothbrushes again so I canceled the ME 2 Preorder. I haven't tried preordering again though so I'm gonna try that once I get another coupon.
They accepted all of my SNES and GameBoy trades without cases, boxes, or manuals. Win.

Just waiting for my coupon.
I'm new to the party. Is that the expected outcome? I have a bunch of old games I'd like to unload.
