FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
I just add this to FAQ... please let me know if it's not right

Trade-in coupon Usage?
$ 75 Coupon - Game Console Only
50 % Coupon - Game and Accessories
$ 30 Coupon - Game Console, Game and Accessories
That looks right. I would only somewhat question the $30 off code being good for consoles. However, the fine print doesn't seem to exclude consoles/hardware so I would assume it's good.

Oh, one more thing. There was a $50 console coupon that was offered the same time as the $75 console coupon. The offer (IIRC) was trade in $50, get $50 coupon; trade in $75+, get $75 coupon.

Bluelobstah mentioned that the $30 is good for console.. anybody else can confirm it?

Thanks for the $50 coupon, I forgot about that one.

Holy crap, my Amazon shipment (Via UPS from NJ) was delivered overnight! I dropped it off last night at 5:50 and it was delivered this afternoon at 1:00 P.M. By way of comparison, my media mail shipments were taking 4 days or so.

Just to show the $30 off coupon works...

az_ps3.jpg

I pre-ordered the PS3 Slim yesterday and had absolutely no problems using the $30 promotional code. I believe as long as the item is in the video games category, it should work.

So my game arrived today. I wonder how long it will take to look them over and process them. Hopefully not too long so that I can get the credit and code soon. Then I'll ship another order out at some point in the next few days.

Glad I checked my email, got a $5 off Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days.

Are we 100% sure that the $75 system coupon will not stack with the $30 coupon on something like the Slim? I know people have said it won't work, but I'm not sure anyone has actually tried that combination (as opposed to the 50% + $30 which I think someone did say they tried).

If no one can say for sure this doesn't work, I guess i'll give it a shot this evening.

As for Kingdom Hearys, yeah, my wife's gold box picks have it but with the damn ECA codes not working I may hold off. Though I know I can probably add that in later. The problem is it will be free after $5 code + coupon anyway so I'd really just want the ECA to add some filler stuff in - that makes it more complicated to add it in later.

I'm hoping it shows up in my Gold Box, so I can maximize the deal and get even a little more credit back on my account.

My haul so far...

(0) $75 off system codes
(2) 50% off codes
(6) $30 off codes

Just curious. Some of you guys put me to shame. I thought i did good with six $30 codes lol ;). But a couple of you have over twenty!

I can't wait till 9/1 to see the next promo! But if its a bad one this thread will die for a little while.
Random question that I should know the answer to already: what time (Pacific) does the trade in DOTD and the regular DOTD go live?
Midnight.

And yeah, Japakneez, I put your measily totals to shame ;). Let's just say I got more $30 codes just from the EO/SW/Jillian type games with the 25% off GS coupon than that - plus I had more from before and should be getting a few after.

Now if the damn ECA codes would just come back I can actually use a few of these. I have stuff I want both in my gold box and my wife's today. Problem is, neither are preorders that I can fix later with an ECA code when they do show up :bomb:.

 $30 off any game item is so amazing. You really can't have too many of them. Plus all the extra credit leftover for anything else amazon sells!

I hope the new ECA codes still work on game accessories. I recall a couple weeks ago that some CAGers spotted a new disclaimer on the ECA website indicating the codes only work with games.

It's been saying that for awhile now. I did just use a code a few days ago on a dualshock3 and the free bundled guitar controller and it worked though.

I'm pretty sure Cuksis beat us all.. :)

My haul so far:
4 - $ 75 coupon
1 - $ 50 coupon
4 - 50% Code
4 - $ 30 Coupon

Well, they've shown delivery and acceptance of my two trade-ins, so now it's just a waiting game for the $30 coupons.

One of the trade-ins in fact had an item in it that they rejected previously though accepted this time around. :whistle2:s It was the SciFi channel adaptation of Dune, which came in two different cases, though the show itself was discs. One copy had 3 discs in a 4-disc case and the other one is in a slimmer 3-disc case. I had two, and traded in my 3-disc-in-the-4-disc case one, and they bounced it last time for "missing disc". :whistle2:s On the spine is where is says clearly "3 discs". :dunce: So, when I sent it in this time around, I put arrows pointing to the "3 discs" on the spine. Guess it worked. :D

Finally got credit for Endless Ocean today.

Used my credit to get Batman: AA and House Season 5 both with release date delivery. :)

Still have like $20 credit left which will be saved for Demon Soul's and Dragon Age.

So quick question. For those of you using, and actively tracking, UPS trade in shipments, how long after they've received the games before you'll receive or be denied credit?
House Season 5 both with release date delivery. :)
Totally could have hooked you up from my goldbox on that!!!! lol

I'm worried that the next batch of codes would actually have this limitation enforced..but i didn't think i had to plan for it until 9/31! This new wording appeared on 8/8

Ahh you have the $50 coupon. You're an amazon trade OG
So quick question. For those of you using, and actively tracking, UPS trade in shipments, how long after they've received the games before you'll receive or be denied credit?
Mine was less than 2 hours yesterday from UPS delivery receipt to email in the inbox. It was my first one, so I didn't know what to expect.

i made two shipments this week through ups. i forgot to write the down the tracking numbers. so i go back into my account and click on the print shipping label button. the weird thing is that the shipping labels are now media mail. i distinctly remember clicking ups for both of them. i hope my package gets there.

So I just sent in my trades. Hopefully they're both completely accepted.

One of my games didn't have the artwork, but I had two copies of the game. I went and got a photocopy made to insert into it.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? Would they care?
So quick question. For those of you using, and actively tracking, UPS trade in shipments, how long after they've received the games before you'll receive or be denied credit?
I sent in two boxes, one on Monday and one on Tuesday. The Monday box arrived on Thursday and the Tuesday box arrived today. I received the email about the Thursday arrival early morning about it being accepted and credited. The Friday box was emailed early afternoon about being accepted and credited.

They have their sweet time to go from acceptance to credit, though for me, they seem to be doing it in 24-48 hours of arrival. My prior trade-in shipments, all done via USPS, were the same timeframe.

Received my trade-in credit within less than 5 business days; and received my bonus $30 credit in less than 10 business days.

For any other site, I'd say "Wow!" With Amazon, greatness has become the norm. Once again, Amazon exceeds all my expectations.

Would have posted this earlier, but a certain moderator was on their period. ;)

I've had no success at all so far with my faux pre-ordering to get good gold picks and it's been a steady diet of MJ CDs, school supplies, etc. Oh well, gold picks have always been ymmv and my final verdict is 98% luck of the draw; 2% actually based on your input.
Totally could have hooked you up from my goldbox on that!!!! lol
Ha. Actually I had that in my Goldbox a few weeks ago and preordered it, but mistakenly canceled it. :bomb:

trade in deal is Xenogears for $29.

They're not even trying to offer reasonable trade in deals of the day anymore, Xenosaga 3, Twin snakes, and now this?

Oh well, at least preordering (and now cancelling) the Dragon age strategy guide and book tie ins gave me a scribblenauts gold box.

preordering has worked out great for me goldbox wise.

got a 4000 pts card after air-quote-preordering HAlO ODST.

Does ECA work on those, if not I wont bother. But if it does, fuckING ECA!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't The Lost & The Damned expansion pack for GTAIV only available as a code for you to go onto XBL and download?

If so, how the hell does Amazon intend to handle THIS listing:

GTAIV: Lost & The Damned:360:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?u...ywords=grand+theft+auto+4+lost+and+the+damned

Funnier still, is that it gets $15.25 in trade value.

The boxart they show CLEARLY says on the top of it 'downloadable content, no disc included' on it too.:lol:

So, how many of you cheapasses are going to try and pad your shipments with this somehow?

Looks like Amazon added a bunch of titles today, the first change I've seen since the 12th. Mostly newer titles like Madden 10 and Wolfenstein, but maybe there's something decent in there.

If you could find a filler for a couple of dollars, it might be worth trading the GH editions in just for the $30 coupon, since that would work out to $45~ a copy. Probably more than you could get around here or Ebay.

There was a retail pack that included the code and a map. Big item DLC often gets a retail treatment. I like it b/c buy it and gift it to friends.

But still, it's the code and a map, it's not like it's an actual game. It's DLC. I just found it funny that they included that as an option for trade-in.

I wonder if anyone who found them during the Target clearance will attempt to trade in those for this deal?

I sent my games in on Monday and it still shows as not received games as of today. Should I be worried at this point although it says 1-5 business days it seems as though most of you don't have to wait the full 5 business days.

I checked prices and it looks like its still $20. Didn't know it was clearanced at target. If its a good flip then why not.

Q: Shipping is taking a while. SHOULD I WORRY?
Q: My games are received but are still not credited. SHOULD I WORRY?
Q: My games are credited but I don't have my coupon. SHOULD I WORRY?
Q: My games are rejected but I still don't have them. SHOULD I WORRY?

A: Probably not! There is maybe only one person that had a legit reason to worry in this thread. Familiarize yourself with Amazon's Trade-in terms here. Take action by contacting Amazon, UPS, or USPS only if the process takes longer than the stated time limits...

UPS - 7 business days
USPS - 14 business days
Credit - 2 days
Coupons - 10 days
Rejected Games - 14 days after rejection

japakneez: I made this post since the word worry comes up so often! ;)

I'm sure I'll get a remedy in my goldbox if I keep rating ps3 games.

Oh don't worry, mate, I probably have something for that in my gold picks.

Crap, best I can do is a ceramic flat hairstyling iron.
