My THIRD system just crapped out on me last nite. :(

I love the 360 and all, but their QC is ridiculous...sigh, I guess I'll be out of the loop for a bit. (good thing I have my ps3 to keep me company during this time)

I just got mine back today and I got another face plate with it and on top of that thier was a copy of madden 07 sitting under the 360 did anyone else get a free game with thier system they got back for M$
yay my coffin is coming tomorrow, cant wait to ship out the paperweight
You can use your 360 anyway you want (paperweight). I use mine to play videogames. ;)

Was it a new sealed copy or an open copy?

Im back in. Called to have the coffin sent for the 3rd time. Had freezing errors 2 weeks ago, then DRE and now "attempting to read media" playing dvds. Not looking forward to buying the extended warrenty once I get it returned. Ive only had this refurb since May, the one before that was purchased last July. The one before that was stolen from my house, which was a replacement 3 months after the replacement for my launch system was "lost" by DHL. In total my 5th console just died.
Ok, got my coffin today. I know I'm supposed to tape the reference number somewhere, where exactly? Outside of the box or on the console in the box?
On the console. I lost mine the last time so I didn't have a ref # to include. It didn't cause any delay.

Anyone have problems where your Xbox 360 was up in vertical position, then you put in a DVD, hit play, and about 10 minutes in, the cdrom makes this huge noise, then you eject the cd that was in the system, and reinsert, and the xbox 360 dashboard says, unplayable cdrom?

I called MS Support and they told me to power off, remove hard drive, power back on, put in CD, then click Play..but I never heard the CD even spin up.

So, this is my 3rd replacement now, in less than 4 months. QC at Microsoft is very very bad on the 360's. I never had 1 issue with my original Xbox in 3 years that I had it.

Well I got an automated voicemail from ups telling me something will arrive between 8am and 7pm (worse than cable..jeez) which I imagine is my refurb. Just a few days shy of being a full month. Hopefully this process that started June 2nd will finally end.

But hey, 3 free days of xbox live! thank you microsoft. I'm glad I just cheated my way through your club live games to get free vista ultimate.

Pretty sure mine is going to die this week. I was playing Halo 2 and it froze, restarted and within 5 minutes it froze again, but made a beeping noise this time. Restarted again and got the ROD. So I unplugged everything and restarted again, no ROD, but it freezes ever time I start it now. But its not giving me the ROD like it did before so I cant figure out what error code it is. I keep turning it on and off to try and get the ROD to come back up.

Please share how you did that. :)

Ummm....there are links posted in the thread to the answers for Flexicon, which will get you about 5.7k. And then just do Chicktionary for an easy 1k.

I've had it with microsoft. I've been loyal since the day I bought my system and it has frozen once a week consistently for the past year. I didn't want to bother anyone and thought it wasn't that big of a deal, but for the past week it has frozen ever f-ing time I turned on Oblivion. TODAY....I turn my system on and get a GREEN SCREEN! NOTHING AT ALL!!!!! I hear my dashboard, but I don't see it. I checked my cables...all perfect. What happened was...I was playing Oblivion and it froze while I was in Chorrol. It shut down and went to the dashboard and I turned it off. I turned it back on and NO more 360. Pathetic.

EDIT: After talking to a guy who didn't speak English for 30 minutes, he tried to have me hook up my 360 on 3 TVS!!!!! Then he said...take it to a friends house and try it there. WTF!!!! After I pretended to do all this I told him it was still broken and he said "Oh my oh my oh my!" Taylor your warranty expired yesterday. I knew that was complete BS and I said I still had the receipt and he got quiet and said "oh, they didn't update the warranty info. I'm sorry your system is covered." I can't believe how manipulative they are. He is sending the box FINALLY, but he said I am supposed to try it on all of my friend's tv's to make sure nothing is wrong with any of mine. hahaha.

2 QUESTIONS:
1) They are sending the box to me. Will it update my warranty date for another year or not?
2) I can request a new console instead of a refurbished one, right?

Your warranty will be the remainder of yoru current warranty or 90 days, which ever is longer. As for requesting a new console or refurb...they will never send you a new console, either your current one or a refurb.

But whats bullshit is that your current console, unless its been smashed, should be able to be repaired and sent back, none of this refurb bullshit.

I would definately like to keep my current 360 since it has been mine from day one and I have kept it in perfect condition (aside from its malfunction). I just want it to play without skipping and shutting down. I would pay money to play Oblivion or Gears of War for more than 30 minutes without the games freezing and shutting down.

And about the new vs refurb...I just read on the xbox.com forums somewhere today that if you call you can request a new console sent to you instead of a refurbished one. I don't know if that's valid or just a lie. It would be nice though.

Mine died on Saturday. I was playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance and it just froze. No matter what I play, it freezes after about a minute of game time. Just a quick burst of static and a scrambled screen. The kicker is it did it two weeks after my warranty ended. Just figures. Friday I'm gonna send it in to get it fixed. I really hope they actually fix it instead of sending me a refurb.

What thread about you talking about?

What stinks about all this is that I've lost a lot of faith in the product. Until my 360 broke I would always buy the 360 version of multiplatform games, and now I don't know if I'm going to do that anymore. I mean here I am without a 360 for a few weeks, and I can't play a good chunk of my games. At least if I buy the PS3 versions I can be sure I'll always be able to play them.

I told my friend to request a new one and they said they would send him one if they could not fix his system within 72 hours. I don't know if "new" means refurb though.

Last night i was playing Forza 2 and each time the countdown reached 00:00 my game would freeze...disc is in perfect condition so i'm wondering what i should do. Not only has it frozen twice, my system completely shut off a few weeks ago mid-race while playing Forza 2.
So, it's been over a month since I sent mine in..and still no 360
did you call to see the status of your system?

Haha, nice. I went to pack mine up to ship out and apparently my wife threw out the return label. Fortunately, I always scan them so I have the tracking #. Hopefully they won't have a problem with a reprint label.
So, it's been over a month since I sent mine in..and still no 360
Did you try http://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx ?

Untill they change your serial number, you can generally see the status. Just click "associate a device you registered" and you can track the serial number.

Once they decide to give you a refurb though, that fucks it all up. It took me 3 days shy of a full month from call to complete.

@Syn, there is apparently a big thread of like 900 gamers on the forza forums about only forza 2 freezing their systems. Not sure if they came up with any fixed yet.

mine broke 2 days after the warranty expired so since i bought mine in a bundle at costco, they just took the broken 360 and gave me a brand new bundle.

That thread has since been deleted and Turn 10 issued a statement saying they tested the game and there are no problems with the software. They urge us to send our consoles in for repair and to return back to Forza 2 as quickly as possible :bomb:

I'll give it a try and let you know (if they don't fix my system).

Just got the 3 rings for my Xbox purchased in 11/06. Luckily I got the 2 yr extended warranty at Microcenter, so I'm going to take it in there today to swap. My only fear is that I won't be able to keep my HD with all my saves, etc.

My friend got a reply in regards to his 360 getting the RoD after playing Forza 2...

Hi [INSERT NAME],

We've tested Forza 2 extensively and have confirmed that the game itself does
not brick Xbox 360 consoles. Although it might seem like the number of instances
is high, especially if you go by forum reactions, it's actually a very small
percentage that it's happening to and we acknowledge that it's very frustrating
and unfortunate.

That said, you can get Microsoft to repair your Xbox 360 at no charge. From what
I understand, they'll install a better heat dissipation system to resolve the
overheating/red rings issue.

As for the forum thread, I moved it to a moderator's section. It has not been
deleted and I can easily prove it. The thread no longer served a real productive
purpose other than as an excuse for folks to violate FM.net's terms of service
with ad hominem attacks. Thanks to the thread, we are acutely aware that it is a
very real issue with a small percentage of our community (but a problem
nonetheless).

But here's the weird thing, his 36o's warranty expired in May of this year. Yet he called MS yesterday and they said they would send a box and repair it for free, also saying that its warranty was until June 2008. But what i love is that they actually said that there's a problem and its being fixed!

I've had my 360 for less than 24 hours and it turned off. Then it started to flash 2 red lights.

How many of you took the 2 year warranty through MS? If I do get that it makes a total of 3 years coverage right?

"Don't listen to those pesky forumers, listen to us (the people who made the game) there's no conflict of interest here, silly!"

If the 360's issue is overheating, (and general engineering suckiness), then I really doubt you can blame Forza 2's graphics/gameplay to heat it up the console more than it "should".

Of course, I'm assuming this. But remember, the issue here is that Microsoft made a console which literally cannot handle playing a fucking game. Developers should not have to "tone down" their games to play on a gimped system when graphics/gameplay have been the solid selling point of the console since Day 1.

In short, dont blame Developers, blame Microsoft.

Well, he got a reply back from the community manager who clearly said that MS is ficing the problem...and he console's warranty expired May 2006, but when he called in, they said they'll repair it for free and that the warranty was until June 2008...

Well, I just got the 3 red rings....THIRD time I will have to send a console in.

It actually fixed itself, but then they came back. Sometimes my video just freezes up and I have to do a reboot. Then red rings, then they go away, then they come back. I will send away since I am under warranty.
My 360 arrived at the repair center yesterday. I really hope I get it back in time for E3.
Shit...I forgot about that. They said they would EXPEDITE me since this is the THIRD time sending back. I'm supposed to get a call personally from someone, we'll see.
My 360 arrived at the repair center yesterday. I really hope I get it back in time for E3.
I doubt it. I live only two hours away from Mcallen Tx and I havent got mine back yet. Its been about two weeks.

Well, technically my 360 is STILL working a bit...but just not reliable.

BAsically, I was playing a game and my video turned to a checkerboard (froze) and the sound was loud static....

I eventually got the 3 RED RINGS.
- Then I unplugged everything and it worked
- Then 3 RED RINGS EVENTUALLY.
- After I talked to Customer Support, it worked a bit...still not very stable.

I will send it in. They said they will EXPEDITE my order, since it is the THIRD time replacing my console. We will see....I better get next day shipping like they did in the beginning.
Is it possible to request for a coffin even though your 360 is still working? I want to be ready for when it passes away...
haha, that would be funny. I should ask customer support to send a couple spare coffins for the next time it bricks so I can skip all the bullshit calls.

I called to check the status of mine and the lady said the repair center was a little backed up this month but she wasnt sure why. I said, "maybe its because everyones 360 is dying" and she just said she wasnt sure. oh yea, this lady was a BITCH too. the last thing I need is some lady with an attitude when I call in about this as if I am not pissed off enough.

My 360 died yesterday, July 4th. Was playing it about 5 mins, then my screen turned red. Tried re-starting it and there were the 3 red rings. Mine is just short of 7 months old. I talked to the "over seas help" yesterday and orderd my coffin. Is anybody here lately having any luck getting a free game out of them? A few months back my cousin was able to get PGR3 out of them at least. They were also offeing Fight Night 3, Kameo and Perfect Dark. They would not give me anyting but a 1 month live card and a attitude. They said that since MS was fixing my 360 for free that is all they would give. So eight bucks for my $400 console breaking.

It's not even that. If you are lucky, you might get 2 weeks out of that month card. I got 3 days.

croaked at 1:00 am this morning. i'm on the phone with xbox support as we speak. this is the third time i will have to send in for a new one, if they let me this time. fucking 3 red lights

I think it is good that they are trying to cover your month of loss for x-box live, a step in the right direction there. I agree though nothing is being gained by you for your inconvience.

Is anybody still getting refurbs if they can't fix your 360 that you sent in?

Update

I called M$ about my unit and the guy said he did not know why they havent repaired it yet. He told me to call back monday about the status.

Its been there two weeks already. Hopefully they'll repair it one day.

Just great, on the day that they announced the 3 year extension on the warranty I get the 3 red lights on my 360. I wouldn't be that pissed if E3 wasn't just around the corner. I was looking forward to all that content that M$ promised us...

Edit: So I called them up a couple of minutes ago and got some automated system named "Max" who really didn't help me at all. And after he finished trying to help me, he just ended up going back to the main menu despite the fact I said no to him when he asked if his instructions helped me out at all... Is there anyway around him or do I need to deal with him 1st?
