I'm here to sign up for the Red Ring of Death club.

The reason I'm frustrated that I won't get the same one back is because of all of my downloads.

I've read that once you get a new system, it makes it annoying for other people to play downloaded games on your harddrive.

That sucks.

Also, does anyone know when the new Xboxs are shipping?

The ones that supposedly are going to run cooler and quieter because of the new hardware design?
You're not going to lose your downloads because they're linked to your live account, BUT:

Until you get an update or something, you can't play your downloaded games unless you sign onto Live. This really annoyed my friend because it had to do with them sending a new serial code. It's like you take your hard-drive off and take it to a friend's house to play your arcade games on his 360.

I think the update fixes it but I'm not sure. I don't have any XBLA games because I have my computer for that, but I know my friend went through it and I haven't heard anything yet from him if they fixed it.

That is exactly what frustrates me. They need to fix that. I've bought a LOT of XBLA games. A LOT. I have over 40.

I am PISSED. 3 red rings and fucking halo 3 in 10 days...

What is the policy with used systems at GS? Can you buy them and return them within a certain amount of time to get your money bacK?

As of this morning they haven't fixed squat. I just got my refurbished system back (after disc drive failure of original) yesterday and none of the XBLA games downloaded under my wifes gamertag work under mine. This pisses me off quite the little bit, as we shouldn't have to play something we payed for using the wrong screen name.

The 3rd (so far) 360 just took a dive on me this morning. Something different for a change though, got only 1 red light and a black screen with the E74 code.

The last 2 that failed on me were 3 red light failures. This one only lasted less than a month. At least I still have the coffin here.

The customer service rep said it would be covered under warranty. Strange since I thought only the 3 red lights fell under the extended warranty.

Oh well, no 360 for a month or so. Bummer, I just started playing Skate yesterday.

Can anyone answer this? I'm thinking of buying an elite.
Also, does anyone know when the new Xboxs are shipping?

If anyone knew, I'm sure it would be all over the front page. No one knows for sure when the new chips are going to be in stores, but units with better QC (supposedly) are in stores now.

I'm wondering if I should just let mine run non-stop till it gets the red rings. I know this thing is going to end up going out on the 24th. So if it ends up going out from now till the 24th no Halo. However if it goes out on the 25th I can play Halo 3 some. Good thing they are giveing people Gold for 3 days. Mine ends on the 19th.

All this with the xbla games and having to be signed into live, can that be the silver to get them to play? I don't want to send mine in only to get it back just to find out that I need gold in order to play my games that I downloaded from xbla.

My 360 has been randomly locking up in Prey, Bioshock and Rainbow Six: Vegas. Now when I try to play Dead Rising or Bioshock my 360 starts making really loud buzzing sounds when it is trying to read the discs. Then after about 20 seconds it will go from saying reading to open tray in the dashboard. There are no scratches on either of the discs. When I finish playing a game and I go to the dashboard with the game still in the tray my 360 makes a loud buzzing sound until I eject the disc. Is my disc drive failing?

I got an email notification TODAY (9/15) that my 360 was received. Yeah, on 9/6. They behind on email reminders, too?

I'm not holding out hope that I'll get it back by mid-October.

Damned it..they tried to deliver my coffin, and required a signature. Why you have to sign for delivery of an empty box is beyond me. UPS wouldn't let me pick it up Friday afternoon, so I'm further delayed. Talk about a pain in the ass.

I have a feeling my 360 is gonna die soon. It keeps de-synching everything, and it will stutter on everything. It's really bad in Halo 2 especially............

now if it dies, I'm out of warranty, so I have to buy a new 360. Just which to get: premium, Halo 360, or Elite? I want the HDMI, which all 3 have, and the 120 GB hard drive would be nice, but I don't want to spend the money.......

Interesting, they just dropped mine off.

MS hates me personally...

I just called MS (Sunday) since I have to send the 360 back for the 3rd time.
I called to ask for the address to send it back on my own (since I still have the coffin from less than 2 months ago). The guy said I have to wait for the new coffin and would not give me an address to send it to. I told him I'll take care of the shipping because I wanted to get it there quicker. He just laughed at me and said I have to wait for the new coffin until I could send it back.

Bastards. I wanted to send it to the repair warehouse/cemetary quicker and not have to wait for a week just to get it there.

Friggin hell. First Colin McRae, now this. Sunday sucks.

I left my UPS driver a nice note on the door with the tracking number and pleaded for him to leave it. (It was on a Friday, and I knew they wouldn't try to deliver again until Monday).

It worked, but this was for the delivery of my "repaired" 360.
Yeah, 3 red rings with Halo3 approaching (coffin on its way).... suckage
its going to happen to a lot of people, and there all going to be really really pissed lol, i'm hopin to get mine back before then but i doubt it.
Can anyone answer this? I'm thinking of buying an elite.
Elites fail just like the rest of them....I bought one at the beginng of July and by mid August it was dead. Just got the replacement on Friday in fact.

Called MS on 8/19, got coffin and sent it in on 8/24, and got a replacement on 9/14. Played several hours of Bioshock this weekend and so far so good...

The only for sure way to get the new chips/cooling is with a Halo 3 Xbox. Someone already confirmed lower temps and quieter fans. Since there's pretty much 0% chance of a Halo 3 Xbox having "older" SKU's mixed in, you can guarantee you'll get the new chip with a Halo 3 Xbox.

Now whether or not the fix is 100% guaranteed, that I can't tell you.

Previous Xbox 360 failures via 3 ROD had nothing to do with the CPU but the GPU and the heatsink X-clamp.

Also, if you find yourself wondering why Microsoft is tolerant of using extended warranties with other breaks aside from RROD, that's because Microsoft is going to try to earn consumer faith and trust over the next year. I'm pretty sure the only rule they have is the warranty sticker/modded. Aside from that, any failures will be welcomed open arms. They'll do whatever they can to save face for the holidays.

Is yours out of warranty because it's modded or because it's from before? The warranty was extended on ALL 360's, even launch ones, so if your sticker is on, you're good to go.

If yours is modded on the other hand... Hehe.

Try the towel trick or fix the X-clamp yourself. There are guides on it. If you still get RROD even doing the X-clamp fix, chances are you didn't do it properly and have to try again.

If you're really SOL and need to buy new no matter what:
Get the Halo 3 Xbox, it's the only 100% way of getting new heatsink/65nm chips. The Elites/Premiums have a chance of being old motherboard unless you get the Premium with HDMI which is the same motherboard/chip as the Halo Xbox.

There is no proof that the "Halo 3" 360's have the 65nm "Falcon" chipset. This is how bullshit rumors get started.

The only thing the Halo 3 360's have (confirmed) is the 2nd heatsink and BenQ drives. NOT THE 65NM CHIPS! So stop making shit up before we know for sure.

When my xbox 360 died on me for the 3rd time 2 months back I walked into the ups store kicking the box all the way up to the counter. The lady just looked at me and said you know you should not do that. That can further damage the system. I just told her their is no way at all you can further damage this system so ship it.

Bingo. It does have HDMI, don't forget about that.

Also, it's not a 3-year warranty extension. It's an extension on RROD consoles, only. That's a very key point to remember.

I'm so pissed.. first MS, now UPS. The coffin was to be delivered on Friday. I come home, and they've left a signature required sticker on my door. They put on the tab that I can sign the tab and it will be delivered on Monday, accepting that as my signature. I call UPS and arrange for pickup, but they say I can only do so between 7:30 and 9:30 pm.

I go to pick up the coffin Friday night.. I end up getting there between 9:00 and 9:15 to pick it up. Nobody is at the guard house, and I can't get the coffin.

Monday.. since I had arranged for pickup, I went after a doctor appointment to pick it up (we have a distribution center in town). I wait in line for 30 minutes, and am told at the counter that it has been put on another truck for redelivery (despite telling a CSR Friday that I wanted it retained for pickup). She loads a trouble ticket and says that a rep will call me in an hour.

2 hours later, a CSR calls to tell me that they cannot (regardless of my sign on the door, or signed tab, or visit to the center TWICE) leave the coffin at the door. I explain to her that it's just a damned empty box, and that I work from 8-5 & cannot make a THIRD trip to the center to pick up my package. She says that she'll call me back. I tell her that I would be home until one, when the driver makes deliveries before noon. I explain that I have to have this package today.

Get a call back, and she tells me that they absolutely will not leave the coffin at the door. She states that the sender requires a signature for delivery (which from what I have read on this thread, is bullshit). She transfers me to a supervisor.

I speak to the supervisor, and she's rude with me. She explains that the first driver had filled my missed delivery tab in error, and that they aren't able to leave it on my porch and take the signature on the tab. She said that I had to sign for the damned thing. I explain to her that I'll be at home until 12:30, and if I could get the package delivered. She calls the driver to check.

Supervisor calls back stating that driver will deliver the package to me by that time.

I had been at home the entire time, and open my front door at 12:15 to check. There's a second missed delivery tab on my door. No doorbell, doorknock, anything... totally ignored the first missed delivery tab. Mother fucker.

It's not like I can call to get a refund or anything. I wish I knew who to contact regarding this, but it really pisses me the fuck off. Not only is UPS a bunch of pricks, but required signature for an EMPTY fuckING BOX???!!!

UPS can't do anything about just leaving your package, if it truly does have a signature delivery option checked. I honestly don't know if it does, because I didn't have to sign for it. It could be that my driver knows exactly what's going on (the store people knew what it was as soon as my wife brought it in), and knows it's pointless to have someone sign for an empty box. But then again, he's breaking the rules.

Any chance they could deliver to your place of business?

Hmm, so I sent in my 360 a few days ago...and after trying to check the repair status for it on Microsoft's device repair site, it now no longer says that the SN is being repaired, whereas just two days ago it was still marked as pending arrival or something of that nature. So yea, how the hell am I supposed to check up on the thing - I guess I'm just not supposed to?

fuck, I just realized that I didn't put my case number on the outside of the box ... I have a feeling that I'll be seeing my unit back sometime mid-Novemeber.

Damn, I'll need to call MS and see about getting a month of XBL if it takes too long.

Update on my RRoD 360:

E-mail that Microsoft received my 360 (at the TX repair center): 31 August 2007
Received refurbished unit back via UPS: 17 September 2007.

2 weeks and 3 days. They're getting faster.

I know, I should've had it delivered at work. I keep forgetting the physical address and only remember the PO Box # half the time. UPS is is just a pain in the ass if you work from 8-5, and I actually live 15 miles outside of the city.

I can understand a signature on a new Xbox, but the coffin? That's just ridiculous. Believe it or not, I've had fewer problems out of DHL. If a signature is required, they'll either leave it with a neighbor or can give it to you right at 5:00 pm if you go pick it up. FedEx is even better about it. For some reason, the distribution center here tells me that they only do pickups during certain times and leave them with a gate guard.

Also, if the driver checked the "sign this form, leave it on the door, and we'll drop it off" box.. then I doubt there was a person-to-person delivery necessary (and I say that because they have to scan each package, and it comes up on their tablet). I'm with an earlier post, I wish I could've just shipped it myself to ensure that it got there faster.

Case # on outside of box?

Doesn't matter. They have the console and serial number; they'll find the case number. I thought it was printed on the shipping label, anyway.

I think there's a miscommunication inside the call centers - the first time the guy told me to write the number on the box, the second time they didn't. I didn't do it the second time, and everything worked in the average time frame.

Not to be mean but what the fuck are these people in India saying? I understand they need to make a living but technical support is not their thing. Dammit this is annoying. I have no clue what they are saying to me...

a quick question.. i sent in a red-ringed xbox360 at the beginning of this month, and now i check the repair website, and i have a new serial number:

*******099**

this can't mean that i'm getting an xbox built in 2000 on the 99th week, so what does it mean?

I think mine's going to kick the bucket soon. It's only six months old, but several times in the last few weeks, I turn it on, and the TV says "Not Supported" for the graphics signal. The controls work, but I can't see anything. If I turn it off, then back on again, it works, but tonight I had to do it twice. I played Bioshock for half an hour or so, then all of a sudden the graphics slowed to a crawl. I saved, turned it off for a few minutes, then played the arcade for a bit with no problems. No red rings yet, but it must be coming soon.

It's going to be really interesting when I send it in, because they have a completely wrong last name on my warranty. I argued with some guy in India about it months ago, and he told me I had to send Microsoft a letter to get it fixed, which I did, but I never got a new warranty in the mail. If they ship me back a refurb, how am I going to pick it up from UPS when the name on the box isn't my name?

Sorry to bring this up again, but I've been waiting since the fifth of this month and I still haven't gotten my fucking shipping box. How long does it take just to get a fucking cardboard box?! What's the fucking holdup? Something also appears to be wrong (possibly) with my repair order. When I call the hotline, I am told that my console has been repaired and is being shipped back to me (I wish). When I check the online service site, I see that the service warehouse is still waiting for my console. Should this be a big concern?

I'm picking up Halo 3 next week, Bioshock's almost complete (figured out the meaning of "would you kindly"), Madden has barely been touched, and I still have Splinter Cell on the backlog. I've also lost the last month of Xbox Live that was on my account, is there any way that Microsoft will refund me (extra month of service type deal)? Finally, does anyone have a phone number I can call to talk to a live operater? I'm about ready to strangle the guy who lent his voice to the 1800-4MY-XBOX line. :bomb:

To be honest, I thought you were just being impatient until I looked at the dates between your first and second post...

That's simply unacceptable on Microsoft's part. I've read a lot on consumerist about people being able to talk to a operator and them asking to talk to the supervisor. I've never called so I'm not too sure how that works, but I think you definitely need to try this website and talk to a human being to sort all of it out:

http://gethuman.com/

Get some free stuff out of it too, one month for a coffin- especially during Madden, Bioshock and Halo season is just torture, I know.

I would call in again and see if the guy actually sent your box.

When I got mine repaired, the box got to me in 5 days. Took 5 days for them to get it back, then another 5 days to get the console back to me. 3 weeks total, no problems at all for me.

Welcome to my world...This happens to me all the time with UPS no matter what I get from them. My 4th system I sent back I went back like 3 times to do a pickup for the coffin but it always found it's way back on the truck for redelivery. Should never have happened in the first place because I always get it sent to my work, thats XBOX's fault as I sepcifically told them to use my work address.

From my understanding UPS's standpoint on this is yes the box maybe empty but there is a UPS shipping label in the box which has some value, to who else other than you I have no idea as its a label specifically to the Texas warehouse. (This is what I was told when I was back and forth on the phone with UPS about just dropping it off)

theres a pamphlet inside the coffin with instructions

Just got mine back after about four weeks. The unit I got back has a build date of 9/06, but otherwise looks like it is in fantastic condition.

I have an Elite now, but I'm going to give this one a good shakedown, then keep it around as a back up if it still works.

mine got sent out yesterday and should get to my house on thursday, sick that i got it back before h3 :). now lets just see how long it lasts

Just got my second three red rings. Funny thing: The first customer service guy told me that the Microsoft system was "down" and that he couldn't process my repair order. He told me to call back tomorrow!?! I called right back, talked to someone else, and now they're sending me my second coffin. I'm just glad I'm not a huge Halo fan. This would have been really upsetting if I were!

BTW: What's the turnaround time these days? It's been a year since I've dealt with this.

I went to the ups store to ship it off and the guy saw the box and instantly new it was an xbox. I asked him how many they get and he said at least 10 each day! That is rediculous.
