Sweet, thanks for the heads up on the AC Encyclopedia! I really want this, but is it worth close to $50? I gotta think about this one.

Between this, the CE's this fall, the Normandy replica from the Bioware store plus the ME artbook that was just listed.....that's a lot of money going to game-related stuff that isn't games. I need to prioritize.
Was anyone able to order the Batman CE on Amazon? It's showing unavailable right now.
They have not yet taken pre-orders. Only Best Buy and GS currently. Amazon will probably open up in a day or two.
I would also like to hear this from people. What makes a CE good/bad? To me, this CE is awesome, but I keep hearing people bash it. Why? Kotobukiya does great work on everything, and how can you tell the quality of the statue from a picture, anyway? Is it really a bad package, or just not what you were hoping for? I think people should think before they post rants about a product they have no experience with. Just my opinion, though...
A good CE would be things that have some sort of exclusivity in buying that package. I personally prefer physical products over anything that is digital. The statue it self is good, I'm not saying the quality is bad or anything, its from a highly recognizable company in terms of quality but the statue is about it in terms of exclusivity in the package. The music is a digital download and its not the soundtrack to the game. Its music by artists that have been inspired by the game. I would have appreciated a physical copy over this digital download because anyone can really just go to some torrent site and download the music. The DLC penguin map and the batman skin are just a time exclusive so everyone has access to it eventually. They should have made a challenge map or skin that is only available for the CE as some sort of thank you for buying the CE. There is no game case for the collectors edition according to this person on the official arkham city forums. If your a big enough Batman fan, you probably already own Gotham Knights in some sort of form so adding this into the package isn't really anything special. It doesn't come in an actual dvd case according to the picture so for those that don't already own it, its not like they can put it on their shelf. I guess the art book is the only other exclusive item. I also remember that the comics that link the two games would be included in the CE but I don't see any image to show that it is.

^agree with this, physical items ftw. in addition, i believe a good CE/LE/SE contains item exclusive to the game/franchise. already having 3 statue based ce's this year (batman ac, uncharted 3, infamous 2 -although props to sucker punch for including the bag-) kinda makes the ce's feel less special.

My favorite ce's from my personal collection are bioshock 2 (whose items directly correllate with the story/gameplay/time period), gow ultimate (franchise specific pandoras box relica), and assassins creed brotherhood codex edition (renaissance collectors chest and my favorite: the codex journal) because they contain items that could not be replicated in any other game's ce. I guess i'm saying that a ce with a figure of one of the main characters could be done for every game that comes out, but that would make them all less unique and that kills the collectors vibe. just my 2 cents.

Man, I was really excited when I heard there was a Batman CE. After the last one however I was a bit skeptical. That Batarang was such a disappointment when I opened it up.

But yeah, I agree that this is just a subpar CE. The statue is really the only worthwhile thing. The Art Book is not like a full sized book, it instead appears to be the cheap basic quality of the Gears 2 LE artbook that felt like the pages would fall out when you turned them. I wholeheartedly agree with Sephiroth as well on the DLC stuff. Early access?? If I am shelling out extra money for something I do not want it early, I want to have a special privilege and have only people who got the CE be able to obtain it. And finally, wtf is up with no real case? Why does this even exist? Oh, let me stack this poorly constructed art book with my games. No, I want a freaking case. We shell out $100 and the best they can do is put a sleeve in a cheap book?

Bah, I am sorry for the rant I am just thoroughly upset. At first glance I was excited because the statue looks good and I thought, wow that plus the other CE stuff is well worth $40 more... that is at least until I saw that none of the other CE stuff is really worth it at all...
im trying to think of a ce where the game didnt have a normal case..someone help me out lol
Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe Kollector's Edition didn't come in a normal jewel case. It came in a sort of gatefold case with a small CD sized digipak sleeve inside.
I would also like to hear this from people. What makes a CE good/bad?
Personally speaking, a good CE is one that has content/addons that add to or enhance the lore of the game universe- or add to the players' immersion of the game universe. Here are some examples from my collection to illustrate what I mean:

 1. Alan Wake CE: novel which has extra info about the characters/story- supposedly written by someone in-universe who visits Bright Falls after the story ends. Physical CD soundtrack with lossless audio. Thematic tie-in since the main character is a writer. The packaging is also a good tie-in since it's made to look like a book.
 2. Bioshock 2 CE: vinyl record of original game's soundtrack. Good quality/worthwhile because it actually features more musical content from the original game than the previously-existing version of the soundtrack. Thematic tie-in owing to the retro/vintage setting of the game. Bioshock 2 soundtrack, again on physical CD. Thematic tie-in with the CD looking like another vinyl. High quality, large, and thick art book- and it includes nontrivial amounts of written text of commentary and anecdotes by the art/design team, not just a collection of pictures. Posters- again a good tie-in because of the posters/ads you see in-game. The UV secret messages are a little gimmicky but it doesn't detract from the whole.
 3. Fallout 3 CE: retro tin lunchbox and bobblehead- both are items that can be found in-game so there is a good thematic tie-in. Art book is alright, is of decent length. Making of DVD isn't that special though.
 4. Halo Reach (limited edition): Halsley's journal was well put together. Lots of additional "in-universe" content in the journal, also some really nice touches with the loose-leaf slip-ins like news clippings put in at certain dates in the journal. If you know where to look you can actually find the journal in-game too. Good thematic packaging, if a CE breaks the standard double-wide DVD case format, I like it to have nicely done/thematically relevant packaging.

Personally I don't really care for collectible statues or figurines, so the AC CEs and the Halo Reach legendary, etc. don't really appeal to me. The statues don't add to my immersion or appreciation of the game universe.

Stuff like that is the kinds of things I tend to go for. An upcoming example is the GoW3 limited edition. The cog meal and personal effects of Adam Fenix enhance the backstory or lore of the GoW universe, so even though I am not that interested int he game, I kind of have interest in getting it for the LE. The statue of the epic edition though, don't really care for.
im trying to think of a ce where the game didnt have a normal case..someone help me out lol
The CE for Star Trek Online had the game disc inside the art book. The back cover of the art book had a plastic CD holder in it kind of like half a jewel case, and the game disc was in there. Although it may not really count since STO is an MMO and you are supposed to download it to keep up with the latest content.

^^^I originally asked to see what people value (plus I would like to have a job product marketing and always like getting feedback), but doesn't the perceived value also depend on pricing?

Personally, I think the only CE that was worth MSRP was Bioshock 2. I also really like the Fallout NV CE, but I only paid $30 for it.
GODDAMNIT DO I LOVE THIS THREAD. Seriously, thanks much OP for the creation of this page. I'm a whore sucker for SE/LE/CE/Whatever the fuck E's of games, and this thread has been the first one to bestow upon me the existence of several I never saw or do see reported elsewhere. Rock the fuck on..!
lol! this guy is on crack yo!

It really is to each their own. Every time a CE is announced there are people who are excited for it and will buy it day one, and there are people who say it is overpriced and only includes crap. For me, in addition to what is offered, the game is what matters to me. I love Fallout, so I bought both of those CEs, I am a huge Batman fan, so I'll get the CE for Arkham City. That said, I didn't pick up DCUO CE because I don't have interest in a MMORPG. If I ever find the CE for ~$20, I would probably pick it up for the Batman statue included with that.

I like what Sony has done where they include all retailer-exclusive pre-order bonuses with their recent CE's(inFamous 2, LBP 2), but some people don't want DLC.

The only CE worth MSRP to me are the ones for a game I'm literally hyped for. Paid MSRP for new vegas CE, and mortal kombat KE and TE (250 total) with no regrets after seeing all of these price drops.
I. Want. That.
Tell me about it. If that wasn't enough they are saying on the boards that there will be a 6 day head start for the collector's editon preorders.

You mean like it will release 6 days prior to the standard edition? I NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Old republic looks nice, but SWG pre NGE still tops it.
I'm sorry, but I have no idea what that means, lol!
Sounds terrible.

I fucking hate this recent statue trend in CE's.
I think some of the statues are pretty cool. The trend of including playing cards in CE's is getting old imo. I have no interest in a deck of cards.

The FO:NV deck was pretty good, as it served as an artbook type thing as well. They all have different backs from the casinos, and the fronts have character art on each one. Very nice, IMO.
Old republic looks nice, but SWG pre NGE still tops it.
I guess that's a matter of opinion but I played pre-NGE and it wasn't bad but it certainly never topped EQ or WoW in terms of MMO's for me. I haven't played Old Republic but it seems pretty awesome. I guess we'll find out soon.
I'm sorry, but I have no idea what that means, lol!
SWG was the first star wars mmorpg. Probably the best mmorpg ever :D but that shouldn't stop you from buying the old republic CE!

Haha what I love about it is that you didn't have to engage in combat to fully experience the game. You can be an architect and just make homes.be a mayor and run your own city. Be a dancer and musician and entertain other players in the cantina to heal their mental fatigues. Even become a tailor or chef. There were like 40+ classes I think and only a few were combat classes.

It was like the sims, sims city, and star wars combined. I can't think of other mmorpgs with a concept like that. I've never tried WoW though but it seems combat heavy, so ill pass.

Pre-ordered. It's quite a bit, but I think it's going to be worth it.

EDIT: Apparently it automatically uses your credit, so I got this pre-ordered for $100. Not bad, IMO. Now, we play the waiting game...
I got in on this right when it went live. Got my code for early access 2 minutes later. Sweet morning for me!
Really? I haven't received my code yet. I'm going to assume that they're just being slow, though. I don't think 50,000 preorders were filled that fast, lol.

EDIT: Yeah, just got it! WOOT! This is going to be a hell of a morning. First this, and then my new laptop!!!!!!! fuck yeah!

Got my code from Amazon for Starwars in minutes. But like I said in the other thread they sold out of the CE on the EA site pretty fast.
Damn I'm glad I don't play MMOs right about now (not hating on those of you who do, though).
I haven't ever played one in my life. But it's fucking Star Wars, man!

Early game access = 2 day before the launch, lol. I have no expectations for TOR. Pre-ordered only due to supply limitations, but probably won't buy it or will sell it afterwards.
do i have to pay to play this new star wars game?
Yes, $15/mo.

Ordered a CE as well, but I hope this means we'll see a release date soon. Tired of waiting on this one.

Shit, 15/mo? Might rethink this... How the fuck can people afford to play these types of games?

It's the whole this game will take place of other games. When I used to play WoW I played WoW instead of buying new games basically. So yes it was $15 a month but I wasn't buying much of anything so my gaming budget might come down to $15 maybe or $45-50 when there was a game I wanted.

For real. When I'm actively engaged in an MMO, I don't play anything else. I just got around to finishing up games I bought at Christmas last month after quitting WoW.

Actually it's kind of a good thing because when I was playing WoW I would spend way less on games. There is something about a good MMO that keeps you hooked. I do hope TOR can do that.

Likewise, because our guild needs another good MMO again. Its been three years since we got together for one.

spent less on anything that involved real life too right? ;)

teehee

Well, any game will do that. It's not just MMO exclusive ha.

Thanks for the post. I'm going to pass though and wait to see what the general consensus is on this game before investing time and money. I almost built a new machine for FF14, but thankfully decided to wait. That game turned out to be a steaming pile. Hope this turns out better.

It's worse for me. I play DC Universe Online (apparently one of the last twenty or so folks who do), but I keep buying games, as well. The Steam sales are particularly cruel. I have nearly 200 unplayed games on Steam alone, and that's not counting my growing unplayed libraries for 360, PS3, Wii, DS, and PSP. Yet what meager game time I do have continues to go into DCUO.

Ah well. The life of a gamer.
Don't know if I am posting this in the right spot but did you guys see this?

My bad it was posted in the xbox area.
Finally a reason for me to own a 360! (no offense owners!). That thing looks incredible, but it's so expensive. I just want the console, I don't give a crap about Kinect, the on rails SW game, or the larger HDD.

edit: Also not to go fanboy here, but doing up a PS3 like this makes more sense considering the release of Star Wars on Blu-ray. To me that's a much much bigger release than Star Wars Kinect.

^I would have rather liked a R2-D2 themed Kinect with some other design on the Xbox 360. Maybe Vader or a Storm/Snowtrooper design for the console.

If only I was rich, I would so get all of these collector's/premium editions on the front page. Maybe not, the Madden one since not really into sports video games.
