Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

made it to 50 on horde! Luckily on River its pretty easy.. hold up in one of the barns and place shields at the entrance. Unfortunately I've missed a level between 17 to 24 ..so gotta go through those to grab the achievement.. Overall not sure how much of the multiplayer I'll be playing unless its horde..
i played gears 1 when you finish a game a new map reloads and the game continues

also i will be playing now please add me as a buddy ! i need buddies!
Notice where I said "ranked". It did not keep you in the room in Gears 1.
still can't decide if I like the hammerburst or lancer better now. the headshot kills are a nice plus for the hammerburst... anyone who'se played a ton of online consider or know which stands better?
As of right now: stay with the Lancer. It's just as good as the Hammerburst, plus it has the almighty chainsaw.

The ending was kinda weird(beat it a few hours ago), I guess I expected more but the entire game was really great!

So much more action packed, the reaver/hydra section had unreal graphics.

If anyone wants to go for the co-op achievements, let me know. I've started hardcore on Act 1 but I'm not too far in and wouldn't mind starting over if someone else wants to go through the co-op campaign with me. I also plan on going through insane once I finish hardcore.

Fun game so far, except for the capture the flag game. We played with a group of assholes who just kept killing us over and over again and wouldn't end the game.

There needs to be a 10 minute time limit or something so when you come across uneven games they don't waste 45 minutes of your life.

Hammerburst is not equal to the chainsaw when actually firing the weapon. I have yet to lose a 1 on 1 fight vs anybody with a lancer while using the hammerburst. The gun is quiet a bit more powerful then the lancer, but you dont have the chainsaw which right now still dominates. Stick with the lancer if you want the most and easiest ammount of kills.

Love it so far. Epic really outdid themselves. The campaign is engrossing and it really feels like you're a part of something big, whereas the first one (while great) felt more "Rambo".

My only gripe is I hate the lobby system for multi or Im just not used to it.

I'll do insane with you and I have someone else after if you want. I am doing Hardcore right now though.

If anyone wants to play tonight look me up. My net connection may give me a little trouble here (was miserable the first night, but good yesterday), but I should be okay for some casual games.

Interested in doing co-op too. I've up to the 2nd chapter in terms of Co-op, but can restart to any earlier chapter if you're willing to stick around long enough for an act or two at the very least. It's so frustrating to complete a chapter, finding out that your random co-op person left... I have to replay the last 2 chapters simply because of this.

If I play this game's campaign through on casual, will the insane difficulty unlock? I figure that will be the fastest way to get all the achievements.

I'm loving it as well. Had a blast starting a solo campaign on Normal even though I still haven't got caught up to where my hardcore co-op campaign was, so the game has great replayability for me, just like the first.

Horde mode was a lot of fun, and the online multi was fun as well. Though the matches without spawns can be boring when you suck and tend to die early in matches. :D

The battle camera after you die is genius by the way. The fact that it zooms in on the action is crazy awesome. This is especially cool when you die in horde and try to give help to your teammates by watching their surroundings.

My friend and I got up to Act 4 last night right after the fish battle and we both agreed this game is sooooo much better than the first. The game is just more epic. There are some areas in Chap 3 that are annoying as hell
Fighting the 3 spider things, crossing the ice ponds, blowing up the tower
, but man this game is awesome

Yeah. You simply have to beat the game. Difficulty doesn't matter. I assume you want to team up with someone else and be on Insane while they are on Casual after running through Casual yourself.

Alright, I usually don't really complain about stuff like this because the problem usually isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem, but the chainsaw definitely needs to be toned down. And no, I'm not saying this because I keep getting killed by it, I'm fairly capable of avoiding chainsaw deaths. I'm saying this because I barely even have to try to get a chainsaw kill.

That being said, I absolutely love the multi-player and will likely be playing it for many years.

Heard the way to stun someone while they are revving their chainsaw is to shoot them in the head? Havent tested it yet, but I did get a few more stuns last night while aiming in the upper chest area

Finished GOW2 on normal, in case you haven't beaten it yet or don't know watch all the credits to listen at the end, for the obvious set up for a possible sequel.

I told him to make sure to shoot them from the chest up (because I noticed his shot barely clip zew's shoulder), but I got called a "$$$$$$ mathematician" for saying that...:dunce:
Of course there will be a Gears of War 3.
In 2010.

I hope so, 2010 could be the pinnacle for the 360 and the current gen in general and GOW3 could be a good trilogy ender for the story and 360. It would seem Unreal engine 4 would be the Next Gen Xbox 720/PS4 and Gears of War 4 on Unreal Engine 4 has good ring to it.

Then again, the sequel to Sony's GoW released on the PS2 instead of the PS3 after the new system had already launched, so it's definitely not unreasonable for them to do the same. I just think they've done as much as they could with Gears on the 360, and saving the third game for a brand new experience would be the best option. Plus, they will need a system seller for the next console, and I'm not sure if Halo 4 is going to be it.

Microsoft is going for big Microsoft Games-published RPG/Shooter every fall for Christmas. Even though it's not announced yet, I'll almost guarantee Mass Effect 2 will be out for Christmas 09 in conjunction with Halo 3 Recon, then we'll see Gears 3 in 2010 with some other RPG.

Halo 4 will be big. Halo is Halo, and even though Halo 3 was a bit of a letdown (alot of MOTS), it sold great. I enjoyed Halo 3 for about 2 months straight but I got sick of the same old problems that plagued Halo.

Unfortunately for Gears 2, the online multiplayer matchmaking / party system is VERY slow and kills the experience. I don't see Gears 2 multiplayer being very popular for long, especially with a new COD coming out.

If they fix the multiplayer party / matchmaking system to be fast and efficient (after 10 minutes you get paired against players that are superior or terrible, I have yet to play in a close match) then maybe it will have a long life. As of right now, I think Gears 2 will be forgotten in under 2 months -- the matchmaking as atrocious.

This is not going to happen.

But there needs to be a patch asap to fix the connection issues and the Submission game type (it's fundamentally BROKEN).

Bingo, and Chaps is extremely overpowered. It can take a couple guys just to get him DOWN, much less hold off the other team while you're doing it.

Does it unlock insane mode?
Wasn't Halo 3 the last game, besides Halo War or whatever, isn't that it?
Last game of that story. Halo 4 will have a new story arc.

If they fix the match finding time then it will be fine. GOW 2 wont be forgoten. If anythung WAW will fail. People will play it but its crap compared to COD4

I doubt Mass Effect 2 would come next year. IIRC, that was the amount of time between KOTOR 1 and 2 and 2 suffered greatly because of it (despite not being made by Bioware). I think if a Mass Effect 2 came out next fall, it would suffer greatly for it being rushed.

Let's face it. If 2009 is close to what 2008 is in terms of games releases, the industry gets hurt big time for it.

Also, the only thing ridiculous about the MeatFlag guy (Chaps, Hanley, Francis, etc.) is his range with the shotty and how he seemingly only shoots me and my team - the damage he dishes out/can take is fine.
