Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

Unbefuckinglievable! I signed into my profile as second player and it completely wiped out my achievements in the war journal. Hundred some matches, thousands of kills, collectibles I had found in campaign thus far, horde status - all fucking gone.

Two things you should make sure of.

1) The device that it's saving to is the same one as you were using. Like you were using the HDD when you played "first" player but as second player you were on someone elses 360 using your recovered gamertag or saving to the MU or something. (I could see this being the cause if you signed recovered your tag elsewhere and used it there)

2) Signed into the first profile to make sure that it's not some weird second player glitch on your own console if you were using your own.

I don't know if either hold any weight, but those would be my guesses as to why.
That's what I've been told by numerous people, including zewone. Apparently Epic is outright wrong that quitting will not drop your rank.

I know one guy that plays religiously every day and he says the way it works is you only drop rank if the host quits. But if you aren't the host, you won't get a penalty. That's why more, that's all people do, quit after losing a round.
is there a proper way to quit without your rank going down because i went to the dashboard right after the last round and i checked my execution records for losses and it went from 17 to 18.

Looking for PRIVATE Horde gameplay, I have 2 other good connection dedicated Friends who wish to play December 10th 2008 from 9pm to at least 12pm eastern. Looking for 2 more players who other than emergency can stay on that long we are all looking to get at least level 20 achievement. If you are interested email me at [email protected] with subject "Want to play HORDE AND YOUR livename" and you will be added as friend before 9 and invited by 9.... We want at least 2 players who will not be leaving the game before 12 midnight and understands "YOU DON'T RUN OUT INTO THE CROWD OF HORDE" and "YOU DON'T DISCONNECT OR STOP PLAYING BEFORE 12"

Here's what happened:
I had my drums plugged in, turned my controller on and started gears up, I then unplugged the drums and got a pop up in gears asking what profile I wanted (the drums had been signed in as my profile). After that I join a match and all the achievement progress reports start popping up for achievements I've already earned. After the match I restart the console and yada yada everything is still erased :(.

So lesson to all: properly sign out of your profile if you are playing rock band before gears. :D

The game's ok, but I'm not sure it's for me. For someone like me who is terrible at online games there's just too much waiting around in the Gears games. Waiting in the lobby before and after every match. Waiting to respawn after you die (which sucks if you're the first one killed in a long round, though I'm not usually as I tend to hang back). I prefer the score based death matches with respawns so at least if I'm getting owned I'm playing the whole match and just have a terrible K/D ratio. :D
Play territory modes and you can respawn within seconds.

Somehow I missed the Friends With Benefits achievement despite the fact that I played all the way through Insane with a friend. I got the Insane achievement, but not that one. There's no way I missed anything because I've only played insane in his game (yes we did the tutorial too.) Awesome.

Mercilessming, tonight I will be playing Resistance 2 with the CAG group but I will be around Thursday night. I do not usually start gaming until around 10 pm but I have no problem playing until 1 am. I was playing Horde with a group of strangers last night and we made it to level 28 before we all died. Not bad considering I was the only person using a mic.
If Resistance 2 does not work out I will try to join your game/party tonight - assuming there is still a spot open. If not tonight, another night.

Yeah, I need to give those more of a shot as I've only played them sporadically in Player's Choice.

I've never been a huge fan of them unless playing with a party since they require more teamwork and that's tough to get with randoms. And unfortunately there's not a lot of CAGs playing this online--at least not those on my friends list or the CAG GoW2 list.

So I put in about 4 hours yesterday in multiplayer. I must have filed about 20 complaints for quitters.

I mean, wow, I don't play for about 5 days and come back and now suddenly everyone is quitting ALL THE TIME. I don't know how many matches were just dumped because the host quit.

Epic really needs to address punishment for early quitters as it's going to ruin this game very quickly at this rate.

And I can't yet decide which I'm getting sick of most; matches devolving into chainsaw battles or shotgun dances.

I'm almost finished with the single player (I'm in Chapter 5) and then I guess I'll be trying the online stuff. It's a bit overwhelming but I'm disappointed that a lot of people are down on it. It looks like a lot of fun.

I played Gears 1 multiplayer religiously for months. It was the single most fun I'd ever had in any Xbox Live game.

Gears 2 just made some real shitty design choices about matchmaking, forced ranked matches, and zero penalty quitting.

It's all stuff that can be fixed, but even if I have a high tolerance for those issues, I know many people that don't and are already not playing anymore.
did they patch the boom shield glitch yet?
Probably not. This is Epic, after all. Expect it to be fixed when Gears 3 is announced, if at all.

What's the glitch?

------------------------

Finally finished campaign last night...fucking sweet. Now to go back on Insane.

You can glitch the shield to use a weapon in your inventory besides what ever pistol you have.

Epic patched Gears 1 a few times, while it may take a while i dont doubt a patch is coming to fix some of the bigger glitches.

I haven't experienced a game with lag for awhile.

I think some of the blog sites said that Epic has been making some adjustments with gameplay issues, so I wouldn't be surprised of the boomshield is one of the things they're fixing.

Well I finished the single player last night. It was great - it was pretty short though. Dead Space seemed twice as long. I need to go back and get some achievements now - I'm going to start over on Hardcore and play through again. I need to find about 11 or 12 more of the collectible things too. I didn't really explore the areas but I will on my second playthrough. It also helps to know which chapter I am missing things on by checking the War Journal. Plus, now I can experiment with different guns - I pretty much stuck with the Lancer and the sniper rifle the entire time. Some parts I couldn't imagine doing without the sniper. There's not many games I finish and want to immediately play through again and I don't even feel like I've scratched the surface of what it has to offer.

anyone else having a problem of where the mp gets really laggy and then their game freezes?...or could this just mean my 360 is about to get red ringed? btw I downloaded the game onto my HDD.

I haven't had a game freeze.

But the server "update" epic said they did made matchmaking even worse for me. Took longer than normal to find a game, and, as usual the teams were imbalanced and the entire other team quit out on us because they were losing.

Anyone intrested in a GOW Gold Hammerburst code? I just picked up another one and willing to trade it. I'm looking for the Quantum of Solace map pack code, but I'm willing to trade for something else.

I'd like one, but I don't have any codes to trade (is there a way to gift?). I can PayPal though if it is something you can buy on XBLM.
Did they show the eyeball or what happens later on in the level with the Cowboy Hat cheats?
don't know...? you got videos? I've only glanced over most of the cheats.
I want the Gears of War 2 premium theme... is there a place to see it? And the other premium themes?

Kind of stupid that you cant see before you get.
If you happened to download a GOW2 theme before the Fall update, you can download the premium themes for free by using the "Download Again" feature. I say this because a lot of people have downloaded them before and actually paid for the premium ones afterward. Just saying, check out your download history.
new map pack tonight is the word on the estreet....
Pictures of the completed emulsion map being played by people definitely support that. Idk if it will be a pack or a free map download announced during the videogame awards.

Hmmm. Yeah in that Spike preview video on live, at the very end, Jeff says something like "And if you are a gears of war fan, you will really want to tune in".
new maps? lol...wow, how about fixing the broke ass gameplay and online system first?
I'm positive that these maps have been done since before the game launched. The picture of the emulsion map being played showed up on the internet DAYS after the game came out.

I kind of wish they had went a little further into the fight between the locusts and the lambent. I would have liked to knwo why they were fighting exactly.

Gears 2 also seemed a lot easier to me than the first, especially the end battle.

It is way too early for multiplayer maps but I think Epic is starting to realize what the rest of us already know: this games multiplayer ain't gonna last. Why not cash in on the hype while its here.

Pop in your copy of gears 1 and see how many people are still playing. Gears 2 will be played until and after Gears 3 comes out.

There will always be the hardcore fans. The normal gaming scene will move on.

I dont think the "normal" gaming scene plays hardcore shooters competitively to begin with.

With every major game that comes out, you bitch about the multiplayer
new maps? lol...wow, how about fixing the broke ass gameplay and online system first?
Because the maps were already mostly done and likely only require mostly artists to make. How do artists help fix the "broke ass gameplay and online system" exactly?

You might want to watch the Empire Strikes Back and pretend Return of the Jedi never existed, you'll have many of the same issues.

This whole map pack reveal for VGA was almost certainly set in stone before the game launched.

Is there a known Lag Glitch? I was playing a match of execution with 2 team members going against 1 opponent. He managed to win the match after trailing by 2. Everything was fine and dandy until we get near him. Once we were at least 10 feet away from him, we would lag like there was no tomorrow. Shots wouldn't register, cover became sloppy and overall movement was very slow. We managed to kill him once after his teamates left, but that was only from grenade tags. fucking ridiculous.
