Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread
nice weapon change overview:

http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=6648
I don't believe that people will be dropping the shotgun as often as the article insists once we become familiar with the system. It's not a complete overhaul like Halo 2's tone down of the M6D "Sniper" pistol. I think the modifications will cause people to have to work harder at closing the distance and giving other weapons a chance to be effective.
When I preordered the game they never asked me for a email
Did you preorder from stores? If so, I think you need to call them about that.
No one here has a legit copy. I don't think the first shipment has even arrived in stores yet. I did read something about a bunch of GH:WT's and GOW2's being stolen and sold on Craigslist, though.

And there's a bunch of crazy people willing to pay $200 to play it a few weeks early, too.
There was a story recently about someone being busted with a bunch of stolen GoW 2 and Fable 2 copies, plus other "DVD's" in Memphis so if someone is selling "legitimate" copies on Craigslist then something like this being done somewhere else is possible.

I wonder how many people will be at the South County St. Louis BB midnight launch. Canceled my GS pre-order to get the RC tank. They had about 20-30 for Madden but only like 5 people pre-ordered and I got there at 11:30 so I think I'll be good to go.
So to get the new maps all u need is a new copy right? Or do I need a new copy on day 1? Just got a RROD and it might not make it back in time.
All new copies are supposed to have the code in them. You should be fine.

I talked to gamestop today about the bonus theme that your supose to get with the preorder and the guy there didn't know what I was talking about he then said It will probably be given out the day you pick up the game

CliffyB's twitter has been interesting lately.

We've found the glitch. Turns out, GoW2 is so fucking awesome it literally blows up the 360. Working on a day-one "less awesome" patch. 1:28 PM Oct 20th from web

Death toll is rising. Six consoles dead. No solution yet. More to follow. 12:53 PM Oct 20th from web

We've already lost four 360's here at Epic today. 12:34 PM Oct 20th from web

I think we discovered a game-breaking glitch in Gears of War 2. Looking into it... 12:16 PM Oct 20th from web
So campaign is still only two player co-op? That blows.
Yup. It stinks since Gears co-op with 4 players would be the best co-op evar.

While I spent a great deal of time during GOW 1 whining about the exact same thing, I'm now kind of torn on the matter after playing 4 player co-op in Halo 3. Not that it wasn't fun, but it's chaotic and it looses some of the atmosphere and challenge.

I kind of think you would have to design the game and story very specifically around 4-player co-op for it having a chance of being fun. For example: Having people pair off much of the time and be some ways away from the other two, but still in communication.
I have to preorder this game this weekend. Circuitcity has the $10 deal right?
You have a Gears of War 2 Avatar, and you still have yet to reserve the game...shame on you ;)

I've been playing more GoW1 these past few days online. I hope my skills there can translate to GoW2. However I have a feeling the shotgun isn't going to be the main attraction for shootouts.

Haha! I don't have a drivers license yet, so something are just outta my hands. ;)
I got mine pre ordered from gamestop. Got the limited edition for regular price with the free 10$ gift card.
Whoa wait, that is Gamestop's deal?
To be honest, I like the newer one better. The 'Mad World' trailer was very powerful but had no apparent message, at least to me. The newer one on the other hand seems much more well constructed and builds up even more anticipation. I can't wait. :D
At least the Mad World trailer had some semblance of an enemy at the end.

The single most powerful element of a trailer is the music/sound that accompanies it. Mad World is a very appealing song and was used tactfully so the first trailer is far more powerful in that regard.

The new trailer tries to showoff the meat shield and the accompanying speech isn't as effective as "Mad World" was in the first trailer. I understand what they're going for with the first trailer for the first game having you as more of a holy shit those enemies are vicious to now the second trailer let's kick locust ass holy shit we can use them as meat shields now.

The first trailer was more elegant and different while the second trailer seems to be more hype-ish targetting people who haven't already been hyped for the game yet.

Umm, what trailer did you see? I didn't even see a locust in the Gears 2 trailer.

He's talking about Rendezvous. We're talking about Last Day.

Dastly, watch Last Day. I think I actually prefer it to Mad World.

Probably should have clarified, I meant to say, when I said "first trailer", I meant "Mad World" trailer, and when I said "second" or "new" trailer, I was referring to "Last Day" trailer.

My mistake, I watched the wrong trailer. I'll watch the "Last Day" trailer now.

edit: Yahoo video sucks; had to youtube it instead. I enjoyed the trailer, interesting that they went with the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack song. It had a nice calm before the storm with the foreboding lyrics of the song. I can't say I prefer one trailer over the other. I'm interested to see what the Gears 3 trailer will have thematically. These trailers have a nice running ambiance to them that I enjoy.
I hate that I am going to say this, but after watching Last Day I now have to buy Gears 2 on launch.
You're crazy if you aren't buying Gears 2 on launch.

I still prefer Rendezvous more. Then again all the Gears trailer are easily some of the best done in video games (on par if not surpassing Rockstar's trailer's for any of their games) and yes it will be mine on midnight.
