Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

I will admit... I was not too impressed with the original Gears Of War. Maybe it was trying to get used to the controls or the graphics. But now it seems everything is better in Gears of War 2. I have gotten used to the controls and even the graphics. Yet, everything feels smoother. The only trouble I had was in the beginning of the game where I got a lot of weird glitches. I stuck to the side of a wall and all of a sudden everything turned black. I moved back and forth until everything was fine again.

My one remaining complaint of Gears remains, however. I wish there was more to explore. This is a more action oriented game, but boy, do I like finding hidden stuff in games. lol.
 
I laughed how at bestbuy there was a short line(compared to halo3) but I could just walk up and grab a copy and take it to a empty regular register and pay and gtfoutta there.

I just learned something however about NXE, you cannot install a game and download content at the same time.

Got to the midnight launch at Best Buy in Cary, NC at 11:50PM and there were about 150 people in line. There were around 10 Epic employees there signing autographs. Pre-order customers had to wait in line at customer service while the rest of us got in and quickly picked up our copies. :lol:

Man am I glad I didn't decide to try and snag a copy at midnight from my local Sam Goody (Which is the only place in town that takes pre-orders). Went to pick up a point card as a present for someone and the clerk mentioned the event and said they had more pre-orders then games sent to them by corporate.

On the plus side though, they had two of the Lancer replicas for 99 bucks. Didn't buy it but got to hold it and look like a dork for 10 minutes.
 
yea i got that shirt, hat and gold hammerburst code (2 actually from the cool guy handing them out)... there was no one there when i went at around 10pm but but midnight there were approx 70 ppl there... and i got the RC tank with the special edition (which retail for 29.99!)

Gold hamerburst = the shiznit
Gold Lancer = pretty cool

but the both shine so bright it's annoying... but having played 2 matches so far has anyone else had connection issues? both times i think the "host" quit since the games ended abruptly... and the game feels so slo compared to gears 1

Didn't get any autographs. I like the artwork the way it is without any scribbling on top of it. I'm weird, I know.

The dashboard can't do 2 things at once.

Also, Horde Mode is pretty sweet. I'm currently ranked 172 on Pavillion.

I'm hoping that's the case, but it should still be fixed. That's not how you grow communities. And it's also not in the spirit of the party system.
 
Oh man, watched footage of Xplay's review and I knew they'd give it a 5 out of 5 but it's nice to know they mentioned it's definitely not Gears 1.5 but 2 and then some. EPIC!!! Can't wait but I have a lot of school stuff to do though. >< Wished I lived near the stores so I could get swag as well.

It definitely doesn't break you up in a private horde game.
 
Played it since 12:30, and all I have to say is.... meh

Seems cool so far. Some really annoying stuff though, like how Chainsaw seems to beat out just about everything. About a quarter of my deaths were from someone just walking up to me with chainsaw and my shotgun/lancer not stunning them at all. Also had connection issues in about half my matches, so they may go hand in hand.

I can imagine the game being really awesome though if you can get in a game with your friends and actually have a real team. I was playing with some of my friends for the first few, but we kept on getting lag so everyone quit but me.
 
Yes, the chainsaw definitely needs a patch.

They nerfed the shotgun (which is good), but then, cheesed the shit out of the chainsaw.

Looks like I found my reason of death already, I thought they made it so that the guy charging you would slow down when they take bullets?

You can choose what gun (Gold or normal) you want to use before the round begins. You'll stay with that gun until the match is over.

It does, but it doesn't make them drop the chainsaw as much like it did in Gears 1.
 
This game was too hard to get for me. Went to G$ for the midnight launch only to find out that my $10 preorder got canceled and I got money for it, which I certainly didnt. So $10 out on that.

So I had a $70 GC to Walmart, so I decided to run there at midnight to find out they only got 2 copies of the LE(mind you, this is the biggest Walmart in the metro area of KC). There was another kid waiting who surprisingly got screwed by G$ too for $5. One other guy came up, got told that we would both get them, and went off on the poor guy.

I also got the guy in trouble I suppose, he forgot to bag it up, and as I was checking out my other stuff, the cashier saw I didnt have it in a bag. She demanded to see the reciept, which I happily handed over. Verified, then she called him to b!tch him out. I kinda felt a little bad.

Also didnt get the gold Hammerburst but got the gold Lancer, doesnt really matter though. Just too much trouble for one game.
 
anyone having issues downloading the gold lancer...keeps telling me to try again later.

Also 3 themes are up...one free and the other two for 250pts a pop...OUCH!

Bare Your Teeth was free when GOW2 was announced at GDC '07. Hope Runs Deep was free when the cover art was revealed.

And of course the download does. That's how any XBL download works. That's how Shipwreck's half-price XBLA game thing works.
 
Oh...then I got those themes too...wonder why they marked them as "Premium" and charged 100pts more for them. I figured they might do something fancy on NXE.
 
The free theme would of been nice if they actually made it fit the screen. Its not tall enough. I see guide background colors on the top and bottom.

The red theme looks cool, but im holding off since NXE is coming soon and it probably wont even work with it.

All old themes work with NXE.

You can see the themes on NXE in the preview.

Yeah but you can only see about 30% of the top of the theme. Anyway like it was said before, i already have that theme from before. I didnt realize they are charging people for the themes they had out for a limited time a while back.
 
It seems all Best Buy's had the hat, shirt, and gold Hammerburst code nationwide at midnight as that's what I got as well in St. Louis. I got the RC tank also, there were about 20 set aside at customer service, and another 20 at the table for non-preorders.

Played 40 levels of Horde with DrunkZ, and we were never booted when we died (which was multiple times even on casual) so I would recommend doing a private match for Horde then.

Also make sure you start at level 1 because there's 50 gamerscore for doing level 1-50 on any map, and a bunch of us joined after Drunk hit past level 10 so we don't have those achievement points yet.

I would definately recommend River as a good map to do Horde on. Get what weapons you can and just camp inside one of the barns. Have a couple of people sniping/torque bow up top and the others at the entrance. The barns continuously spawns new longshots/torque bows upstairs every few minutes (it alternates between maps.)

The good thing about Horde is, if you want the Achievement, you can start at any previous wave you've gotten to. Also, you can change difficulty settings. I got to Wave 20 on Hardcore with 3 others last night, then we got destroyed. They should've kept me in the party and I might've decided to redo the Wave again, but no, they hate random horde mode players for some reason.

I'm also like... 1/1000th towards Seriously 2.0. But I already know how to cheese that one if I want to, so it's not all bad.
 
Also this talk just makes me even more excited, I get off work as quickly as 1:30pm hits today (hopefully no-one wants any website and application updates or fixes today), hopefully the Circuit City will have it before the guaranteed time of 4pm
 
I'm buying the game today at circuit city, but I wanted the hammerburst gold code :(

If anyone has an extra to spare I'll be more than grateful, otherwise I'm just gunna check gamestop to see if they have any extras.
