Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

"Supposedly" people have a "lag switch" whereby the host flips it on and everyone but him is lagging. Not a glitch, just people messing with their network/router settings.

Rumor has it that the "Special" surprise for Gears 2 is the Combustible Map Pack that hits at Midnight. :eyeroll:

I don't give a damn unless it's free, because that's not special at all.

The Combustible Map Pack will include three new multiplayer maps. "Flood" is the imulsion map that was leaked weeks back and will feature imulsion as an environmental hazard. "Gold Rush" will also be included, a map that was released as part of Gears PC. The third map, "Fuel Station" looks to have been inspired by Gears favorite Fuel Depot, but is not a straight remake. More details still to come (including pretty screenshots) and, per a reliable source, we've been informed the Combustible DLC will set you back a hefty 800 Microsoft points.
With every major game that comes out, you bitch about the multiplayer
I play games exclusively for multiplayer, and I expect higher quality. Okay, maybe I bashed COD 4 too hard, but GTA IV's multiplayer was horrible.
What sucks even more is that Circuitcity still hasnt called me back about those 1600 MS points...
They called me two or three times. I gotta keep dodgin' em.

Not free = don't care. The game came out a little more than a month ago, and they're already releasing a map pack? Sounds like they kept the maps off the shipped disc to make easy money on DLC...

Plus they need to fix the damn shield glitch...

Like one of the head dudes of Infinity Ward (Cod 4) recently said in an interview I read - You have two choices: Release all the maps you have with the game and hear lots of crying and bitching for more soon after release, or hold a few back for a map pack for when the crying and bitching starts so you can get a head start on other games/more content sooner.

This game shipped with more maps (including the 5 free) than probably any other multiplayer game. I'd rather have them sooner than later.

Same shit as Fable II. If you're going to release DLC a month after the game is released, make it small things like guns, armor, etc. Maps...we know those takes months to finish + about 2 weeks of certification meaning these were done in time to be on the disc. I'll save my money until they are free.

Whoever said that is a genius and knows what he's talking about.

I'll be one of the people buying the map packs tonight. $10 for countless hours of fun playing Multiplayer? I'm fine with that.

Sweet, I've got a ton of points from deals in the past and I'll get these once my 360 comes back from the repair center (hopefully this week).
If these maps do indeed cost money, you'll actually get to see them show up in playlists about as often as you see flashback maps show up.
All the time?
10 bucks for 3 maps seems steep...
Agreed. $5 would have seemed more reasonable. As to the Infinity Ward comment, yes, it's smart to hold onto some maps (8-10) for future DLC when people start bitching, but Gears 2 was released about a month ago. So by that logic, if people are already bitching (albeit about glitches) only 1 month into the game that doesn't bode well. Either way, i bought Gears 2 for the Steelbook Limited Edition and campaign with friends. After i beat that a couple times it'll be shelved.
All the time?
Unless I pick Flashback playlist, I see them show up for voting maybe 1/10 times.

I guess if you are having 80 match sessions at a time, that isn't so bad.

It's probably 'cause everyone on my list stopped playing Gears 2 for some reason and I don't feel like forking over $10 for something people will play a ton for about a week then stop again.

COD4 was fine since we played that shit constantly.
WTF is the Combustible Map Pack registration download?
It's a gamerpic. One of those where you have a chance at winning the contest by just downloading the pic.

LOL, 10 bucks for maps for a broken online game. Epic is the dumbest company ive seen this year. Fix the online first before you try and rape people on map packs.
Whatever it is, it's a ripoff, and I refuse to pay for it.
I can't wait to hear this broken record for the next coming weeks.

lmao my whole party was cracking up when we noticed the dl was 80MB and that these maps were on the disc already yet we paid 800 pts for it... and i h8 this game and since launch have played 10 online games (and a bunch of hoarde) but i have to say these maps are actually good
Yeah, you must really hate this game considering you have 630 achievement points on this and 1160 on the first Gears...
do i really have 630? well it's mainly from CO-Op/Hoarde which is honestly the best thing about this game... Hoarde mode is the best, but y would I lie? I H8 the multiplayer of this game and have only played that 4-5 times and 10-15 total matches becuz it sucks... and i loved Gears 1, I never said I hated that game
