Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

I really hope it does. I want something to bring me back into Gears. They really fucked this game up big time and they need to remedy it. I don't know why, but it just seems like lately they have had a penchant for screwing up their games. UT3 was no where near as good as 2004, GOW PC was horrible (I know people can fly ported it, but Epic bought them and should have taken a more forthright role), and GOW2 is no where near as fun as the first. They need to stop screwing up before they lose me as a fan.

IMO we will know what the new cheevos are before the patch drops. I've only got one more public achievement (meatflag) to go. Hopefully the combustible achievements won't be ridiculous
The main reason for it is that there are no player matches, it's ranked only. Which many of us think is stupid as hell. The really shitty thing is waiting 25 seconds after a match staring at the damn scoreboard... No reason it can't be loading the matchmaking screen while it sits there.

***

Some dudes on the Gears boards are claiming (swearing) the patch hits tomorrow. Nothing official so take it for a grain of salt.
Ha, I haven't even got to see that scoreboard in so long. I always quit the second I notice a cheater (connection not in game). I leave right when I spawn with no gun, I hear someone getting stunned in the beginning of the game and the time freezes, and when the timer stops at one before the match starts.

I'd rather quit out then give a cheater a kill. I somewhat hope they're fixing the invisibility glitch cause then at least more people would quit when being standby'ed.

Thanks a ton for the help Cagers.
I think I may actually make it through a game on hardcore for the first time in my life. Thanks to the advise, I finally made it past that stage.
I'm guessing I'm near the end, now that the Locusts seem to be turningon each other.

I just downloaded the Combustible Map pack late last night. First game I got into today, it was 1 on 5, with me being the 1. That was funny. The second time was fine, though.

Me and FrankySox just finished an epic wingman match. We were at 13, and after double overtimes the leaders were at 18. To make a long story short, in the third OT we can back and won with 21 points. :whistle2:D!!!!

It was AWESOME because the first two teams we RAN through and gibbed were the two teams with 18 points. I can't believe they have three overtimes, would it be never ending? Anyways Pangly threw up about 2800 points in the match and I didn't show up until triple overtime, terrible night for me.

Wow, I don't think I've ran into these cheaters that everyone else is having a problem with, so I guess I'm lucky. I've been working on the co-op stuff lately, so if there's anyone interested in getting INSANE and co-op out of the way, shoot me a message. Or else, I'm just going to do insane solo and casual the co-op stuff to get through it faster.
anyone know if the code for the map pack (and I guess the 48 hr LIVE trial) expire? I might not use them and may decide to trade or sell
Unless it has a date or something on the card saying it expires it shouldn't ever expire.

I'm guessing the patch didn't come out then. Since I've heard no one talk about it yet.

I myself don't understand the Flashback Map Pack, I don't know how to enter the code. :p Do you enter the code, or do you already have the flashback maps?

90% of the cheaters are rank's 3 and 4. Stay around rank 2 and you'll have more fun.

It hasn't yet.

You have to redeem the code which lets you download the maps.

#1. Combustible Map Pack ruins Gears 2 because it fragments the Community, Instead of playing with all 2Million people who have Gears 2 Maps you are limited to only the 100,000 or so (fools) who bought the Combustible Map Pack which will be Free in Summer 2009

#2. The Official Patch should be ready by next week IF it passes CERT at Microsoft which has to certify it as being ok.

#3. The Only thing that will Save Gears 2 at this point are 2 Free Maps to Bring the Community back together I have not touched Gears 2 in 30 days, as many people like me have done the same. we need a spark to come back.

#4. Even though Gears 2 has sold more to date than Gear 1 did in the same time frame, the unique play time and play hours on Xbox Live are way way less.

It is quite obvious at this point that gears 2 will never be like gears 1 for online. Epic is too busy counting cash to listen to their community of players who got them where they are. Douches, all of them. Im going to go through gears 2 on Insane and then never touch it again. As far as im concerned, the online portion does not exist.

I wouldn't say all of them are douches. When one person who is higher up say Cliffy B decides not to do anything to improve the online multiplayer then no one else will. If one employee decides not to do anything, he'll either be fired, warned, or nothing will happen. I think he'll most likely be warned or fired.

Anyway, yeah we're probably all fools for buying this game at full price, although I think I got it used.... maybe....

Whats is astonishing and annoying is the amount of PR hype and marketing lingo we get shoved down our throats before the game ships. we all remember CliffYB saying "bigger badder more badasss" and all the Videos showing clips of gameplay.

But once the game ships EPIC is silent about the Problems, pure silence

which fuels angry customers to flame online, and people get angrier and angrier. Each day goes by that EPIC says nothing.

So in a vaccuum of iformation it gets filled by hatred and people giving up on the game.

Then 2 months later EPIC finally says we are working on patch to be released in Late January.

By then its too late too many people have given up on Gears of War 2. Its a viscious circle more and more people give up, there are less and less people playing online.

I tried my Theory today.

Gears 2 on Xbox Live took me 5 minutes to find a full game 5 vs 5

Gear 1 on PC which I play on my Laptop using the 360 Controller took 1 minute to fin a full game.

and its practically bug Free and fun to play.

Because

#1. On PC EPIC can quickly identify problems and Patch them easily with PC code.

#2. On the PC side EPIC does not have to wait and extra 2 weeks while Microsoft approves the patch, Its just EPIC dealing directly with the customers, no Microsoft in between.

#3. Its way Cheaper I got Gear 1 on PC for $14.99 and all the Maps are free.

#4. Gear 1 on PC also is much Prettier and has nicer graphics than Gears 2 on 360. Because of Direct X 10 Shaders, Cleaner Textures, and Higher resolutions, also its plays at 60 Frames per second so it looks much more realistic and smooth.

Honestly, complaints won't help Epic anymore. What epic basically needs is a ton of people to email them constantly about their game being buggy and stuff. Then maybe they'll listen.

I hope you go into the software business someday.

There's a playlist specifically for the map pack. If you want to play the new maps you choose that. You can still play all the old playlists with all the old maps. Just because you downloaded it doesn't mean you can no longer play with the rest of the population.

Epics always done a good job listening to it's players and taking bug reports. Look at how long they supported Gears 1 with patches fixing any multiplayer exploits and rebalancing the multiplayer. Releasing a free map pack, new achievements and a new game mode. There's already been one patch that was released shortly after release to address matchmaking issues for Gears 2. You can't expect them to give live updates on progress of the patch every single day... They said they're working on it what more do you need? You make it sound so easy. Like they can patch absolutely every glitch overnight. Have you made any bug reports? You can't just rant on CAG and expect them to read about it there and then patch it the next day.

Doesn't take me more than a few seconds to find a match in Gears 2. And hardly anyone plays Gears 1 on PC. Chances are you found a game that already had 6 or 7 players. Hosting a game on Gears 1 PC or 360 takes ages. You'd be lucky to get a few players within 15 minutes who will all leave anyway because no one else joins for another 10 minutes. Sure you could always go the route where you only join games that are almost full. But on Gears 2 the time to get a match going is alot more consistent for all players.

Epic didn't do the PC port. And there's only been one patch. And it's Games for Windows LIVE so patches still have to go through MS cert.

It doesn't sound like you know what you're talking about. All I see you doing is grasping straws and pulling stuff out of thin air.

does anyone have issues trying to "two piece" people? i whack dudes from behind and they don't get stunned, instead they immediately spin around and two piece me perfectly. it seems to me that two piecing just randomly works.

It's obvious you have a problem when you sell over 2 million copies on day one but you can't break #2 top played list even though your game has only been out for roughly 2 months.

Didn't see this posted anywhere, but thats cool. @ one achievement being 75 points though.
Wow, thanks for the free 175 points. That shit's mad easy
It might be easy but if people are still quitting every match in droves, it will be time consuming.

Every map pack will be eventually free. Halo 3 made their Heroic Map Pack free when the Legendary Map Pack was released. I wish they would allow people to play certain online modes without the map packs. But sadly, they think this would be to unfair for the people who bought it.

I'll play Gears 2 with friends over Xbox Live, but not random matchmaking. I'll be playing Halo 3 until the time comes when the lag and stuff is fixed.

The game that sold more than 2-million over that same time period (CoD:WaW) ranked higher, as did Halo 3 (which every single new Xbox 360 owner considers a must play!). That is it. A game that sold over 3.5 million copies since release on the 360, and a game that has sold over 7 million since its release has beaten Gears of War 2 for Unique Users. How humiliating for Epic!
poor linkin has no friends to wingman it with.
No that's not the problem...I usually play with my sis...the problem is that wingman sucks.

Wingman is awesome if you have the right partner who is decent and can communicate, atleast that's when I've had the most fun.

It was my favorite gametype in the beginning but after a while you realize it's all about spawn placements. It get's old pretty quick.

Actually that's what I thought as well but, if you play enough you get used to it and develop strats on it. For example, on ruins every one gets a turn with the torque and you can sometimes rush it even if it isn't to get it more than once. You can also stay back with nades. What killed it for me is the constant lagswitchers but when there's no cheating the gametype is extremely addicting.

This. Having a strategy for each spawn is a good idea, once you place enough you can develop you own and I think that makes it fun. It's also much easier to play as a team when there are only two of you.

GGs last night to Mr. Anderson (SammyFez) and BackinBlack (sp?)(TooLateforRoses). We pulled off a really nice comeback against some decent competition that was actually playing straight up.

Aren't they allowed up to 250 for add-Ons. That means there is like 75 points left. What do you guys thinks it's for? The next map pack.

But then again halo got 1750 points total. Why didnt Epic try for that?

Halo 3 does but technically you can't get them all yet.

/sidenote: any chance the combustible map pack will go on sale (cheaper) when the patch drops?

Interesting, I didn't know MS had allowed any game to go past 1250.
Is it just me, or was the last act of the solo campaign significantly easier than the 4th act?
The last act was extremely easy compared to the 4th, and the last 'battle' was horrible.
