Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

Wow, they are also going to let us pick a specific gametype to play as well! Looks like it might be time to grind out my MP achievements. If any CAGS want to team up for Guaridan/Wingman/Meat Flags let me know. Here are the full details from GoW.com

CELEBRATE GEARS 2’s FIRST ANNIVERSARY WITH TRIPLE XP

Friday, November 6, 9 AM EST, through Monday, November 16, 9 AM EST, Gears of War 2 gamers get a nine-day multiplayer extravaganza. In addition to triple experience throughout the event, players will be able to play in an all-new tactical mode across all multiplayer game types (including Horde). Players can expect two big changes in tactical mode, increased weapon damage and reduced ammo counts, along with a few subtle tweaks such as increasing down-but-not-out health so revives are still possible. Also during the event, Public Horde’s difficulty will be bumped to hardcore, and playlists can include individual game types—meaning you can play exactly what you want, when you want. Prepare for the challenge, and more than ever, remember to take cover!

Wow what the hell is going on. Its taking me forever to get a match. Usually i get a match within a minute when i did play. But i havent played in a month or so. Got into a wingman match fast, but warzone/execution takes a few minutes, while guardian/submission just searches forever.

Then the last two games i havent gotten triple XP, only normal XP. Though i did get triple XP in my wingman match. The last two matches ive played were warzone/execution.

I already hate the increased weapon damage, Shottys are now even more powerful and you can get one shot kills from 3 feet away.

I haven't played in months but I really hope that isn't true. The shotgun is why I stopped playing.

Is it just me or does the online seem more of a clusterfuck than ever before? One minute i shoot a guy with a shotty from 3 feet away and he dies with one shot. Then next minute i shoot a guy with a shotty from the same distance three times and he doesnt die. Just seems even more random than ever before with this increased weapon damage, not in a good way.

Haven't played in a while, but triple XP would give me enough reason to drop Borderlands for a few days, I want that level 50 achievement. Otherwise, I may never get it. Too bad I missed double XP, too. Damn you Gears, just when I try to get out, you suck me back in.

This increased damage thing is crazy. Grenades blow me up from 15 feet away and I'm getting shotgunned from a distance.

Thankfully a lot of people don't know that it's increased damage so I've been averaging 30 downs per Annex match with my lancer or hammerburst.

Keep not taking cover and getting me 5,000 points a match :D Maybe I'll actually reach level 100.

My personal experience with Tac Mode has been absolute intolerable trash. Triple XP isn't worth the increased odds of being consistently paired up with trash host connections only to be manhandled in epic lag by Lancer fire that can now stand toe to toe with an active Boltok and Host Hammerburst firing molten Infinity Gauntlets. Very little chance of me giving it a second shot when every game type has evolved to Warzone-lite thus painfully reducing most games to the very same unnecessarily long winded Hammerburst Wars I spend most of my time in either Execution or Wingman to avoid. Well... assuming you aren't downed by a shotty from half across the screen I suppose.

I think it is relatively safe to say my tolerance for Epic's bullshit has officially wore its welcome and is ready to kick rocks for good. Judging by the reaction of the official forum posters this mode will eventually become standard and when that day comes my MP career will be taking a long walk off a very short pier.

Thanks Cliff! Thanks Rod! You guys are amazing! ^_^''

Modern Warfare 2 has never looked more irresistible.

I don't like the whole less ammo deal. I think it's whack. I feel like I'm running out of ammo way too often. I just can't get over the fact that Epic seems to still feel like it's perfectly okay for the hosting to completely suck and let an entire team of five suffer because of this. And can they just not fix the weapon issues already? It's the second game and we've been through numerous updates and still they've never managed to get it right. One team always has a slight advantage over the other and the rest is left up to skill levels. Once I hit 50, I think I'm pretty much done with the game for good. So, hopefully I can hit that with this triple XP week. I'm at 39 right now.
Triple XP must be the only way to tempt people away from Modern Warfare 2. And you know what? I am tempted to play Gears instead.
LOL i will be playing gears 2 till CODMW2 comes out, then im playing CODMW2, unless it was 10XP then i might keep playing gears.

Someone told me that if you managed to boost a total of 24 hours on Insane Security during this week of Triple XP, you'd get to Level 100.

Is anyone going to do that? I wouldnt mind it. Playing vs other people gets annoying with the lag. Ill be on later tonight if anyone wants to boost send me an invite.

Some people are going to do as much as they can over at 360achievements.org. Trying it with 2 players seems impossible, though. 4 or 5 players is definitely preferred. I wouldn't mind doing it for a while. But I definitely couldn't do 24 hours of it. Even in a span of a week.

7th your shit is messed up! I finally reached lv 60 a few days ago. I'm still waiting for MW2 so will grind until that arrives (or maybe after 3xp is over)

Tell me about it. This whole triple XP week experience has been awful so far. My playlists are messed up. Last night they actually went to how they should be, but now today they are messed up again.

Then i was playing a game of wingman and i was host, shot a dude with a boomshot by his feet he didnt die. Then same round i got a dude with a smoke grenade and he was stunned. I shot him twice point blank with my shotty and he didnt even die. I was host! This never happens to me when im host.

Then i finally have a good game in wingman, scored little over 1,000 points and end up getting 750 XP. Its like WTF, Thats not even 1 times XP for a match in wingman. This is such BS. Never have i had problems with Gears like this. I dunno whats going on.

Not sure if it'll work or not, but you could try clearing your cache to delete your title updates, then redownload the newest one. It might help.

Just tried it and nope, downloaded the update and its the same BS. Maybe it has to do with getting Twitter/Facebook stuff early?

I'm going to be grinding some levels tonight on Security. Need to hit level 50 before triple XP ends on Monday. Will probably start 8pm EST or so. If anyone is interested send me a message or post here.

Yeah i dunno what it is, but i just turned gears 2 on and got the wrong playlists, then i went back to the dash and booted the game up again, and got the right playlists. Weird.
Someone told me that if you managed to boost a total of 24 hours on Insane Security during this week of Triple XP, you'd get to Level 100.
Well doing Horde on Insane Security is the best way to get XP, but there is no way in hell you will get anywhere near level 100 in just 24 hours of boosting this way. It is more like 240 hours!

You need 6.8 million XP for level 100. With a full squad of 5 on insane horde you could probably do 40 matches in an hour @ 750xp per match. So 30k an hour or 720,000 per 24 if playing nonstop. That would get you to Level 52, but you are still only 10% of the way to level 100. Needless to say it is a loooong grind.

That said, I went from 41 to 45 last night. Still need about 6 more hours to hit level 50 and be done with this game. If anyone is interested in doing a couple hours tonight let me know.
Yeah i dunno what it is, but i just turned gears 2 on and got the wrong playlists, then i went back to the dash and booted the game up again, and got the right playlists. Weird.
Mine did that once before. I exited out of the game, and went back to it. Then it was fine. Not sure what causes it.

I'll be playing tonight, I'm at level 44 and like glockglock, I'm just trying to hit 50 and call it a career. Two achievements more would do it, unless someone wants to pound out the co-op stuff another day. I've been putting off Borderlands for this and while it's still somewhat fun, it's hard to justify continuing to play a broken game. I'll consider showing my face for future double XP or triple XP (can we rule out 4x EXP?), in the hopes of eventually hitting 100 just for the achievement, but otherwise if I can hit 50 this weekend, I'm out.

I believe, if you buy a new copy of Gears 2 GOTY, it should come with a download voucher for all the DLC. If you get a used copy, most likely, the download will already be used and you would have to shell out for the DLC seperately.
Triple XP still going on right now. It was supposed to be gone by now, but I'm going to try and milk it as long as I can.
Some people who were boosting Horde during the last couple double XP weekends said that as long as you do not leave the lobby that you can continue to get double/triple XP after the event actually ends. So if you can keep a lobby up you could technically keep getting double/triple XP for a while. It really doesn't pertain this time though because I'm guessing that once the Dash update hits early tomorrow morning everyone will be kicked off live and forced to update.

I hit level 50 over the weekend thanks to a couple 2-3 hour sessions on horde. That will probably be the last time I play this game until I get motivated to grind Seriously 2.0 or some of the MP achievements because the grind to level 100 is far too long. I do wonder if they will continue to have these double (or more) XP weekends as this game continues to slip down the "Xbox Live top 10 list"

Redeema - how close are you to level 50?

Yeah one time in MP we all got double xp after the event was over because this one guy was host, and didnt turn his xbox off in 2 days, had his xbox on since the event was still going.

I don't know if you guys read it or not,but basically they said the event was over. Then it says you can still earn double xp. The way it read to me. It looks like they was going to keep it that way which wouldn't shock me since MW2 is out, and they want to tempt people back to Gears 2.

I hit level 47, almost to 48. Don't want to drag this out much longer. I really want to move on with this, but the achievements beg me to attain them.

If they really want me back for a good while give me two solid weeks of double kill or triple kills. I'm barely at 29k, so I'd love to hit the 100k mark, but without some sort of bonus it'll be impossible for me to get there.

Well, this game is consistently out of the top 5 on Live every week and that was before MW2 shipped. Now with L4D 2 out I could see it even lower going forward. Increasing the amount of XP is a good start, but it is not getting me to play the MP especially now that I am at Level 50. The game just stumbled out of the gates with horrible matchmaking and a system that encouraged people to drop out of games. Even after the patch that added XP and levels The rewards for playing online are just not there. After playing a few games of MW2 online I remembered why CoD4 roped me in so much. The online is so well done, with the leveling, unlocks and challenges. It is fast paced and even if you get killed alot you resapwn immediately. Not like Gears where you end up sitting around watching far too often. Add that to the fact that you need 6 million XP to go from level 50-100 (as opposed to just 600k to get from 1 to 50) and you can see why people will call it quits at level 50.

Yea you are looking at a pretty good grind still, but level 50 is in sight! If double XP is still running then you should just grind it out. It will take 4 or 5 hours, but it will be worth it to be done.

As for kills, I wouldn't expect them to do something like that. If you want to push to 100k just keep loading up the level where you are riding the Brumak. You can get a couple hundred kills quickly, then reload the checkpoint and repeat. It will take a while, but it is way quicker than playing MP or horde.

it's a shame really. I actually like the mp when it's running smoothly. I was terrible in the beginning and got crushed since I got the game few months after release. Though by the time the leveling up system came into place, I got somewhat "good".

I'm level 62 atm and hope there will be some high multipliers for xp soon. I would say about 1 in 4 matches are actually decent (I do fairly okay and no noticeable lag). There really should be some better region filter btw.
Did that end the 9th or begin? If it began the triple XP wouldn't effect that, if it began, well, that's another story.
I wondered the same thing before posting it, but I'm guessing that since MW2 didn't release until Nov 10th that it is for the week starting Nov 9th.

Ah, good point. I didn't catch that. I will say this, if they would have put the announcement up on the 'channels' when you first turn on your 360, they probably would've gotten more people. If you're like me and hadn't played in some time you wouldn't know unless someone told you. I happened to see this thread with new posts and read it and found out about the triple XP. Oh well, not much can be done at this point unless they tack on new maps and give them out for free.

So my sister finally got a X360 which means no more split screen, she just picked up a used copy of Gears 2 from the Gamestop B2G1, and obviously it doesn't have the map packs...so, would I be able to move my profile to her X360 download the maps, and then recover my profile on my X360 and both of us have the maps? I have a feeling the answer is no, but I wanted to be sure.

Give her the 360 you downloaded the maps on, and recover her gamertag on that 360. Then recover your own gamertag on the new 360, then download the maps, and you'll both have the maps as long as she keeps using the 360 the maps were originally downloaded on. Or, do a license transfer for your gamertag to her console. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111265

Both good options but I think the license transfer might be the ticket. Thanks!
Both good options but I think the license transfer might be the ticket. Thanks!
Keep in mind that the license transfer will move ALL of your DLC content, so you would only be able to play it on your original console when you are logged into Live. So anytime you are offline, or if Live is down for a few hours, you would be unable to play any map packs, Rock Band songs, arcade games, etc.

The suggestion for you to play online on the new console, while she plays on your console, might work better. Keep in mind that the content "belongs" to both the console and the profile, but the profile must be online to use the content if it is "visiting" another console.

Hope that helps!

You could recover your gamertag on her xbox and redownload it. Note that this method I don't think you both can play the map packs at the same time on your two different systems.

So, I've discovered a new annoyance with players in this game. Now that Horde gives experience points and XP has been doubled, I keep running into high rank players (70+) who join public matches and don't actually play, so that the rest of the team essentially earns XP for them. :bomb:

Yeah, I ran into that during the triple XP week. Didn't know I was the host, I think they may have the option to boot the player, I didn't look. It sucks, but I guess you can always submit a player review and hope you can avoid him/her next time.

I hate being host. Just gives the other people more chances to complain. Sometimes I host, and its fine. Sometimes I host, and I can tell its quite laggy for some people. I got a message today cussing me out because it was laggy for him. I haven't got anything like that in a while. I thought really on Thanksgiving? I told him. If its that bad you could leave. Sorry my internet isn't awesome enough to carry 9 other people. I bet most people that complain. There internet isn't good enough to do it either. I wouldn't host ever. If there was such a option. Sometimes it lags really bad. I think is it my internet. So I try another game, and its perfectly fine. I get laggy games sometimes too, and I can usually tell who the host is. I never say anything or cuss them out like most of these people.
