makes more sense that theyre delaying it itll be forgotten in the shawdows with MGS4 and GTA4 and DMC4 coming out and LBP(maybe)
It can't be that far off, one of the gaming mags already reviewed a "Final Build" so it must be done or almost done. My guess, the game doesn't need more work, Sony is holding it back for marketing reasons.
No it isn't a guess, "they" are holding it back for buisness reasons. Instad of tacking it on at the end of an already fair year, they are holding it until the next one starts hoping it'll keep their numbers high. Please note that "they' is NOT Sony, but rather the folks actually making the game. :)

I know what you mean. I think Christmas was the sweet spot, but if they have some steller Co-op and multiplayer, I think it might still stand out on its own.

I am so completely over haze. I could care less when it comes out.

Resistance 2 will be 10000 times better than haze ever could be.

Had haze came out earlier, things would be different -_-V

This game is just taking way to long to come out. Resistance 2 will just be more worth it. Just save your haze money for Resistance 2

I suspect the delay was for some in-game XMB and Home integration, along with last minute bugs and features.

Also, the move up of the release date could also be to make sure that Haze has enough time to establish itself in the FPS market before Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and whatever else FPS games come out on the PS3 this year.

That said, I'm really looking forward to this game. It'll be one of the few games I'll be able to do a 4 player co-op for since my friends only have PS3s. From what I've seen the gameplay will at least be decent, if not good, and co-op makes many things better.

So uh ... at risk of having my head bitten off, anyone notice that the interview with Sony PR head Peter Dille in the most recent EGM has him still referring to Haze as "a timed exclusive"? What up wit dat?

I really just wanted Timesplitters 4. I'm a PC FPS elitist, so it's really saying something when a console-only FPS grabbed my attention like Timesplitters 2 did. The concept of different time periods and corresponding weaponry is just too cool especially when you mix them all together in multiplayer. It's a shame they've dumped the franchise this time around. I lay the blame on all the Goldeneye fanboys who kept going on about Goldeneye 5 years after it was released and never bought Perfect Dark or Timesplitters. #-o
lost source, but HAZE is no longer a timed exclusive... it's just an exclusive to PS3 :)
That's nice, but it's been delayed so long I lost interest in the game, and I doubt it will make a big impact anymore. Still, I hope it turns out good.

That's nice to know... Like I care. I'd be more interested on some Timely releases if possible... I mean, I know I said I'd rather the do it right than do it fast, but fuck... come on.

That's been known for a while. They stopped development on the 360 version, but that's still up in the air.

I think Haze will be good, but it doesn't have the marketing that other FPS games have, and marketing is pretty important.

Sadly, the way Haze fits into the PS3 release lineup is as a stop gap for the FPS crowd.

It is pretty ridiculous how long it has been delayed for. It was supposed to come out what, November? Then December? Then January, then March and now here we are and it's still not out.

It's an Ubisoft game so I have no problem waiting a couple of months after it's release for it to be in the $30-$40 range.

you don't want to penalize a game for being delayed. For some reason though, I feel that HAZE would have been better as a 3rd person game, rather than first person.

I really feel haze has lost a lot of momentum. Having said that, if they had release on time, and it sucked, would they be any better off? Also, as has already been mentioned, at this point, the bar has been raised, so it is less likely to have much of an impact. I hope I am wrong, as this game was number 1 on my list for a while after I got my PS3, but it has fallen way down now.

I do think that being exclusive will help them $$$ wise. With the lost of momentum, the money they are getting to be exclusive, is likely better than what they would get off of another sku.

If the co-op thing is done really well, I may still pick it up, but other than that, I am already looking forward to Resistance 2, for my next FPS.

I just got my PS3 yesterday, mostly for The Show, but when/IF this comes out, I will definitely be picking it up. When does Resistance 2 come out?

A Gamestop employee told me it drops on my birthday, Nov 5 :) I'm not convinced that is in stone, but they're taking preorders for it already.

this was a purchase when the release date was in November, but now with the dates getting crazy the game got lost for me. When it comes out I will probably rent it, but unless the reviews are really good I can't see myself picking this up anymore.

If they're aware of the momentum change they'd set it up like this:

Haze 49.99 limited time.

EGM: March 2008 (Revenge of the PS3)

Page 56. Interview with Peter Dille, SCEA's Senior VP of Marketing:

"And then there's different ways you can skin the exclusivity cat that we've got, whether it's the deal with Unreal Tournament.... or the exclusivity that you can have for a period of time, vis-a-vis something like Haze."

Thought I'd bump this thread with some new info coming out of ign and gamespy:

Life as a Rebel

Life as a Soldier

New gameplays videos

I think this game actually looks promising, even tho most people tend to cry "generic". It has potential to add some new depth with the different sides of the fight as well as coop. Hopefully the multiple delays pay off.
You know this isn't a day 1 purchase for me, but I'm quietly monitoring it's progress and it does look promising.
I'm in just because it's Free Radical. Second Sight and the Timesplitters games are all in my pantheon (not to mention their presumed involvement in the original Perfect Dark), so I will happily fork over my $60 on Day 1.

I'm worried that the gameplay relies too heavily on the use of the nectar bombs, and nectar on knife weapons.
I'm worried that the gameplay relies too heavily on the use of the nectar bombs, and nectar on knife weapons.
I agree, from the gameplay I have seen they were using that ability a lot. It does look cool, but I hope that you don't have to kill every guy with a knife to the nectar tube.

From a preview I read, the Mantel troopers are very tough and have a lot of assets at their disposal when you're fighting them. So making use of the nectar stuff is a good idea.

However, I still prefer a good old fashioned firefight with good cover use.
anyone watch the gametrailers.com preview... looks promising, and fun.
This one?

Looks good, the co-op sounds like so much fun.

Demo is coming to the PSN.

Ubisoft today announced the imminent release of a fully playable demo for Haze, the new first-person shooter set in a harsh future where war is never quite what it seems. Coming exclusively to the PLAYSTATION Network in early May, this playable demo will give gamers a taste of not only the single-player campaign in Haze, but will also allow up to four-player, drop-in drop-out co-op play online.

A demo is a good idea for this game, if the gameplay and multiplayer is good, it can get more people interested for the game than the screenshots do. The game only looks a little generic to me, but then again, all foliage is generic.

Plus the game has a somewhat complex premise that isn't easy to distill into a tag line.

Anyone know the exact day and time when the demo will be released or should be just expect it on the Thursday PSN update?
Anyone know the exact day and time when the demo will be released or should be just expect it on the Thursday PSN update?
It says "early May" so one of the first two Thursdays or so then.

I hope the online portion goes a lot smoother then Lost Planet. Hopefully you can invite buddies like the final project so maybe we can run though the demo with friends.

I think the most interesting thing about this game is that they (Free Radical) built their own engine for Haze. And if the engine is good who knows what we'll see use it down the road.

Assuming free radical stays around, even if Haze isn't a success, they can use the engine to save costs on other projects. Heck, they could improve it using Insomniac's engine code from the nocturne initiative.

I get the feeling that a lot of engineer time in Haze's development was used getting the new engine up to spec and learning the PS3 architecture. A second go around would yield potentially better game tech features as the engineers then get to focus on implementing various gameplay features.

But that's getting ahead of ourselves. I'm just glad there'll be a new shooter to play co-op next month.
A second go around would yield potentially better game tech features as the engineers then get to focus on implementing various gameplay features.
They are making TimeSplitters 4, which I am looking forward to, personally. TimeSplitters games on the PS2 ran like butter.
