Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!
I used to live out your way. Great time of year to be in the Christmas city.
It's a good town. Not so busy, not too quaint. Lots of lights and snow and all that Christmas goodness.

You go to school out here in Bethlehem? I don't live here anymore, but my parents do and I grew up here. Live right by Musikfest, that God forsaken drunken musikfest with trash thrown everywhere and people thinking our drive way is a parking lot... Although now that I can drink I appreciate it more.

Looks like people are still having results up in the HWV house. Glad to hear it personally. I may stop by one later in Jan., if I think they are restocking by then still (obviously they restock often right now).

Happy holidays you cheap gamers!

Went and grabbed some more today and had them "pulled"

360
===
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Alone In the Dark
Crackdown
Blue Dragon
NBA 2K9

for some reason he said the ones on the closest wall, even though they had more than 3 for the ones I grabbed, couldn't be used on the sale.

Silent Hill Homcoming
Prototype
Fallout 3
GH: Metallica
Ghostbusters.

Even though like I said they had more than 3x copies of all of them, and from the OP it seems like they are sub 29.99.
Where in CA is your store?
Also, is it a good idea to call in and ask about the stock? (it looked to be discouraged here during the summer sale)
Los Osos Valley Rd. Los Osos, CA put out 1000 games (according to manager), all rentals.

Foothill Blvd. San Luis Obispo has maybe 300-400 supposedly going on sale tomorrow.

On the calling in to your store thing: I think it depends on how far away your local HWV is and how lazy you are. If both of the previous questions are high on the meter, then I would just call in.

Otherwise (close HWV, not so lazy...today), it doesn't hurt much to just drop in. Odds are they will have at least one game that peaks your interest.

I think calling would make a lot of sense, if only because so many of the stores keep closing. I think over half the stores in my area are gone now, and it seems like every couple of weeks another store closes. If that is happening here during the holiday season (when rentals would be up I'd think) HWV isn't going to make it through next year.

HWV is certainly in a bad place right now. I don't think rentals would be up too much though, because you can't really "give" a rental but you can a bought game.

Nonetheless, I hope they make it through. I always liked HWV, and if they all closed down all I would have is local rental places (very, very, and I mean VERY few even around) or...ugh, Blockbuster.

Well I picked up:

WWE SVR 2009
Bully Scholarship Edition
Battlefield: Modern Combat
NFS: Most Wanted
Mercs 2
Mass Effect

All for the 360 at Cedar Rapids, not too bad, but the game aren't complete, at least some of them. They had one copy of RE5 left and like 6 GTAIV. Might go back to Moline tomorrow since I know they got a new shipment, maybe I can pick up Street Fighter if no one's picked it up by now.

It is not about gifting rentals, it is about spending time with family. People actually hate to spend time with famil, and that is why Thanksgiving and Christmas are 2 of the biggest movie days of year, at least in theaters. Rather than talk to and spend time with your cousins/uncles/grandparents etc. why not watch a movie? I would assume this applies to the rental business as well.

Nah, was working out that way. Lived in Hellertown. Loved all the festivals though. First fridays downtown. Always something going on. I can imagine it would get old being right in the thick of things though. You must have been able to watch the fireworks from your front porch.

:bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb: Sonofabitch. I'm on the wrong fuckin' coast. The local two HWV stores have rental shelves packed with 6, 7 and 8 copies(if not more) of most of the halfway decent PS3/360/Wii titles, but they won't friggin' convert them.

:bomb::bomb::bomb:Mind you, I still can't complain cuz I've made a killing this sale, last sale, the sale last year and thanks to the BB screwup on Sunday, but still there's no fuckin' way they're renting all of those damn copies of Fallout 3, Resistance 2, Halo 3, etc, etc, etc.

boo hoo

Heads up to everyone. i just got animal crossing wii. the manager told me that it just dropped price today along with 50 cent blood in the sand for ps3.
Do HWV's have to restock? I went to one 2 weeks later and they didn't add any (it's down to nothing but sports games now).
I've heard a mixed bag of stores getting stock from other store closings, some pulling stock from game crazys (although I think there will be less of that), and stores only getting new stock from customer trade-ins.
Heads up to everyone. i just got animal crossing wii. the manager told me that it just dropped price today along with 50 cent blood in the sand for ps3.
They are saying animal crossing for wii is still 34.99 used, even rang it up.....anyone else confirm this?

No restocking here at all, only 2 outlet stores left, and another store closed. I suspect the remaining two outlet stores will be closed by Easter. Game Crazy isn't doing much better here, only a hand full of those left, with more closing soon.

Went to one today. Picked up Guitar Hero 5 and Guitar Hero Smash Hits for the PS2. Also picked up Pikmin for the Gamecube. Nothing really for Wii or PS3 (or at least that qualified) but at least got some stuff. And at least this one was running the promotion. The other one sort of near me told me they're not doing $5 video game sales anymore :(

went to HWV and guy at the counter said there was no such promotion..

now that I see the code is in the OP, I'm printing it and bringing it back there to him.

Couldn't resist when i went to the bank next to a movie gallery to stop in and try the "pull if you have lots of games" deal and nabbed a game i've been really waiting to get FO3

360 - Fallout 3
360 - HAWX
360 - Soul Caliber IV

I stopped by my HWV that never has anything in stock for games because I was planning on going to gamestop to take advantage of the $20 TIV promo going on. To my surprise they actually had some PS3 games in stock. Sadly none of them qualified for the $20 promo at GS but I picked up farcry 2, fifa 09, endwar, tony hawk project 8, nba 2k9, and soul caliber IV. I also found 3 360 games that qualified for the GS promo so i picked up GTA IV, Midnight Club LA and Ace Combat 6 to flip for $15 trade in profit at GS. I got Wii Fit plus for the GF with one of the PS3 games. I was wanting to pick up mario kart wii and new mario bros but they were out of stock at both GS stores in town. I'll stop by again maybe taking advantage of the $5 bonus at GS on PS3 games on any of the games I don't want.

I hear he failed at an attempt to flip Bioshock copies from Sears lately too, what terrible luck he is having. What a poor, poor man. You know you hear about all these hardships around Christmas time but it's not often you actually get to see one. It's truly a sad, sad sight.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I was spoiled...received so many games! ;)

I work this Tuesday morning and plan to check on price drops, etc... here's hoping.

Would you mind checking on Call of Duty World at War :ps3: Also thanks for making this deal all the better by posting all the eligible games and price drops. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

went back to my hwv, showed the guy the code, and he typed it in and it worked.

picked up:

Midnight Club LA (x2, PS3)
Ace Combat 6 (360)
Pokemon Platinum (DS)
Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party

not bad :D

You went to the Bridgewater HWV didn't you, lol! Was there earlier last week and they told me they didn't do the $5 sale anymore. So I didn't bother trying, lol. But good for you!

Seriously? My posts got deleted just because I was ripping on a hoarder? That doesn't seem quite right. It's not like I was using foul language or anything.

Hmm stopped by a local HWV and saw they had CoD4: WaW and CoD4: MW, didn't know which one to pick up, what's the difference between the two?

World at War is made by Treyarch and set in World War 2 and Modern Warfare is made by Infinity Ward and is set in a "modern" day warzone. Both games are pretty good IMO, but for $5 a piece, you would be crazy not to get them both.

After coming up empty at 2 HWV's, I stopped by the last one I hadn't checked at and finally scored a mis-priced copy of Street Fighter IV (PS3) in the regular used game section..which I quickly flipped for 20 at gamestop yesterday. Thanks OP! :applause:

Nice! I'm glad its helped to have the code handy...

Maybe its been stickered wrong fooorever... that shows you how much hwv cares about stickering games correctly. ;)

I didn't do the deleting, but generally when a thread goes off topic we delete not only the one that started it but all the responses to it and discussion of whatever off-topicness it spawned - so it doesn't mean you did anything wrong (necessarily - I didn't look at the posts), it's just tidying up the thread.

Went to the Brick, NJ store (not listed on their site) to find out that it is closing tomorrow. Picked up a 360 Skate 2 for 4.99, it was the only PS3/360/Wii game that qualified worth mentioning.

Alright, that's fair enough and understandable.

which is a good practice because it's been getting hostile in a lot of threads lately. we're just here to help each other out, if something doesn't help one person it could help someone else.

Found 9 more games at 2 stores yesterday that qualified for $20 at GS. I was out of town for 4 days and thought everything would be gone...but I guess not. Traded in 7 to GS for 145.xx and got a new wii for the wife.

Looks like this is still going strong since I just went to the HWV in Iowa City again and they restocked like no other... I picked up Prince of Persia, Mass Effect, Fear 2, FIFA 06 World Cup, Gears of War and Far Cry 2... They had a bunch of other games there too, but these are the ones that I actually wanted too keep, may go back tomorrow to get some PS3 titles too.
