Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

I found me a Wiki and Zack so I had to grab... I think I could of waited till 50% or even 60 but I guess I'm waiting for that on the other stuff.

most of the good games were cleaned out but I saw a few I wanted for ps3, heavenly sword, silent hill homecoming, dead space, etc. I just got SH because it was only $10, I don't think heavenly sword is worth $15
hollywood is still renting games??? Wow, my hollywood video stopped renting games a while back when the liquidation started. All of the good games were cleaned out at 20%. One quick question, is this 40% store and nation wide? My store doesn't know the clearance and is randomly setting it at 30%.
The percentages off are set by the liquidators and are NOT universal unless it's the same liquidation company running the sales across all of the HWV/MG stores that're closing. Even then the percentages off are only raised when shit stops selling at the lower percentages, I think, since the one Blockbuster around here took fuckin' forever to get to tolerable levels for games and movies.

Heavenly Sword might be worth $15, but it's not worth much more than that.
I got those prices for The Guy Game from Video Game Price Charts(vgpc.com) and they were based upon Amazon, Ebay and something else.

However, the games sell for $5.99 and $7.99 for the PS2 and Xbox respectively at Gamestop. Of course, assuming you can find a copy in stock for the Xbox now that's complete and in good shape it should be $2 with the 75% off clearance mark I think they've hit for the original Xbox stuff.:D

I had all three discs resurfaced tonight and honestly, even though the guy took his time and did multiple passes with multiple gels and other crap in the machine, the one seriously looks like it was done lightly with a Disc Doctor.

However, the Xbox copy now looks as good(if not better) than my copy I've had forever.

So now I just have to hit up the local shop tomorrow and try to sell the two PS2 copies to the clerk for $6-8 each to recoup my full cost for all three and I'll be happy.
thanks for the info! unfortunately..no guy game to be had at my store. maybe some random shipment will come in.
I know this is a little late but here is a HW protip.

When I buy a game without a case and og artwork I ask them for a bank case from that system, and they give me a display case with another games insert. They are too lazy to remove the insert. a couple of times I got the inserts for games that I already had and didn't have inserts for.

If they don't have anyone cases you can always ask BBV and they will give you a blank one no questions asked.
Yes. good tip. At my store we've been rubberbanding the display box with the rental so you can choose if you'd like to have the nice case n' such. Of course it just confuses the hell outta the average non gamer. ;)
Dawn or Scorch - If rentals do go on sale as reported here, do they immediately sell at the present 40% discount?
This has to be ymmv on new rental games being sold because I have heard nothing on this so far. I won't say it isn't going to happen, but I really think these games will be sent back to corporate. Now...if they did decide to sell...they will not put the discount at 40% starting...I'm positive it will start off at 10% or something reasonable to start.
Wow, this GREAT thread is still going? Very happy to see that my successor is still going strong with a ton of support behind it. Good job Dawn!
;) haha...I'm sure it'll slow down soon enough with all these store closings. I might have to update the op with online deals soon.
thanks for the info! unfortunately..no guy game to be had at my store. maybe some random shipment will come in.
Well. I have 4 copies(2 for Xbox, 2 for PS2) as of now, so if you want one for a reasonable price, let me know.:D The three from the MG I hit up were all resurfaced the other night. The Xbox copy still has some scratches on it(surface scratches, my ass)but the one PS2 copy is pretty damned nice right now.

My own Xbox copy has marks on it that look like it was redone by a Disc Doctor though.

Oh and Dawn, according to the Wikipedia article on the game, they released a BC patch for the 360 allowing it to play the XBox version.

I talked to the manger at my local Movie Gallery,
they told me all the new rentals will go on sale next thursday,
and they will be 50% off. So hopefully, I can snag some stuff I've been wanting.

So big surprise today! We started selling off New movie release rentals and New game rentals today...and at the 40% mark for the games!!! Updated the OP with all the new info...seriously shocked that they'd keep the 40% off for the new game rentals...but whatever! I bought a couple things today since I apparently can't hold anything for myself (stupid mgr! errg)

And it does kinda look like the discounts will lower on 3/6 looking at the paperwork we have...but of course this is all YMMV because all stores are different when it comes down to when the discounts happen. Every store has their own liquidator in charge of dropping prices.

And "No! I do not know when the last day is!" ...LOL...I am just so sick of this question allll day at work....omg...I'm seriously gonna start saying april 1st if it gets outta hand. ;)

naw.....thanks though. Not really a game I'd be interested in playing at all.

Thanks for the movie gallery info!

I think the same buffoons that ran the CC clearance have been running the MG/HWV clearances and the FYE clearances.(+ blockbuster)

At least, the signs in the stores are all the same.
I got gd deals today me2 for 20 dol. Nsmb for the wii 20. And few more I will post em later when not at work. Store was at 60 off
nice getting nsmb for $20...i bought ours for a friend at $26...wish our store was already at 60%.
Are the rentals complete in box? My stores mostly have disc only with generic cases. Wondering if my stores are just old school.
No. Rentals may or may not come with original cover art/book. All stores are alike in this respect...you can ask for the display box for the the original cover art and we'll be happy to give.
naw.....thanks though. Not really a game I'd be interested in playing at all.
I figured I'd ask, since I know some folks like to get every game no matter how good/bad for their personal collections.

I gotta check out the two MG stores by me that're closing since I want to see if the newer games got put out for sale now or if it's just the same old junk as last time.

If the newer stuff is out at the current percentage off as well, then that will be a banner day for me, assuming they have some of the better newer titles out.

Definitely some deals to be had right now. All of the most recent releases are ~$30 plus tax. I decided not to get anything. I have a big backlog already and no time to play.

My store was selling new releases at 40% today, but I didn't get anything. Still had a good amount of stuff though. I'm going to wait for 50 or 60%.

these are new release sealed games (59.99) or new release rentals/previously played games like gamestop would sell for 54.99?
My store was selling new releases at 40% today, but I didn't get anything. Still had a good amount of stuff though. I'm going to wait for 50 or 60%.
good call...if your as cheap as I am
lol

My local closing store (Frostburg, Md) it still at 40% off regular stuff, $10 Blus, and all games for 40% off (or close enough). Lots of 360 games left, but I picked Batman AA on PS3 for only $25. Happy with that!

New release games started earlier than the Thursday I was told over the weekend. Apparently they started on Tuesday, and the store is pretty much cleaned out. This is the Montrose, OH store.

Yeah, wow, I haven't even bothered to stop in to my local store that is closing since the very first couple of days, despite going to the grocery store right next to it several times. It was just so discouraging to see how much got sold at a mere 20% off that I figured I'd never see anything decent at 50% or more. I guess I should go in there at least one more time for nostalgic purposes if nothing else ;).
its ymmy
my store isn't selling new releases
Agreed, some stores are sending back product... I was in my HWV the other day, and they were boxing several copies of dvd movies (new releases) to send to other stores or to the DC. This was after I was told last week that they would start selling the new stuff.. so go figure! :D

I'll check in on the 6th (I think Dawn said that is when the discount is increasing again). If I find anything remarkable I might bite. If I had more/any time to play I wouldn't have balked, and left with nothing today.

I just bought wii resort with sensor and jacket for frickin 18.xx bucks. I feel pretty good. All of the game are 40% off, there's still some good stuff left but I wanted to get the new super mario bros but it was all out. Somebody rented it and planning to buy it, so anyone whose store is still not selling they're new releases now is a good time to rent it and buy it.

i also got
darksiders 20 for xbx
gh5-16 for xbx
band hero for 16
i will go back friday for the heck of it see if they it 90 of candy, i will clean them out of 20 oz mt dews

i went to a hwv closing bout 2 years ago and bought almost 150 drinks for 15 dollars

I'm hoping to find a Borderlands PS3 out of all of this. Thought I found one yesterday at a store that just started selling rentals. Unfortunately they did not actually have the game. Only game I am really looking for. I will have to go out on a HWV hunt tomorrow.

Damn. My mom was just down there today. I could have asked her to check while she was there. :p

I stopped into a HMV with some great stock at 40%. It seems the attached GameCrazy closed and moved all the stock to the HMV, so there are lots of PS3, Wii, and 360 games at 40% off, along with lots of game guides too. Granted the game guides ranged from $4 to $10, which was still a bit expensive for me.

It's possible that closing HMVs with GCs attached might be in the same situation, moving all the GC stock over to sell at HMV liquidation prices.

Aw...we have about 3 ps3 copies (atleast 7 x360) of this game at our store. ...priced in computer at I think it was the full $49...so 40% off of that.

Yea...umm..our store did a pull to corporate as well but only on about 30 titles (90% Blu-ray). And yes...ymmv on discounts and stores...its up to the liquidator in the end. But it seems like most stores are on the same track which is nice to know...like to give out as much good info as possible. :) I work in the morning...guess I'll see how quickly these new games fly off the shelf...

Damn...I could have made a nice flip to gamestop today w/ the 2 L4D2 $40 used copies on sale w/ the 40% off. That would been awesome if the TIV didn't tank today. $15 TIV @ GS (base TIV) before promo.

Picked up Uncharted 2 for $29 last night in Youngstown, OH. They also had Ratchet and Clank:ACIT and Modern Warfare 2 for the same price. My UC2 had no original box or anything but I consider it a deal. My store still had Yakuza 2 for $10 too! Anyone got any extra cases for Uncharted 2 lying around that they'd want to sell?

Picked up
360 Halo:ODST $27 (no case though)
PS3 WWE Legends Wrestlemania $10
GC Teen Titans $4.80 (came complete)

passed on $10 Bioshock for ps3, am I dumb? lol

There was also a fed ex that just delieved 4 boxes to the store, considering I went right when they opened...i hope I didn't buy something for 40% and then they recieve a kit to mark everything down to 60% or something...that would suck
o well

Has anyone been to the HWV on Hayes/Hall Road in Sterling Heights, MI?

Might take a look on my way home from work. But it's a little out of the way, so any insight as to what they have would be appreciated.
I'm specifically looking for PS3 games.

Otherwise, I'll give an update later tonight when I'm back - for those in the area.

$10 for Bioshock is a pretty solid deal. Not ground breaking since its used, but cheaper than most.

I paid 15 for bioshock there 2 weeks ago. Very much worth it and I don't really like FPS.

Thanks to the OP (and others) for this heads-up. Two stores nearby just went 40% off, but damn if they didn't make the experience as confusing/frustrating as possible.

One store had no prices. You had to walk the games up, and the lady had to flip through a printed price list. I asked if she could hand me list, so I could do it myself there at the counter (since she acted like it was a major imposition), but she said, "I'm sorry. You're not allowed to look at this."

Second store was outright surly and rude. Any question was met with sighs and gruff answers. They had price stickers on most stuff, and they were generally lower than the price list a the first store (for example, SFIV was $25 vs $30, before discount). They had pulled all original cases/manuals and stacked them in the corner. When I asked if I could have the ones for my games, or buy them, they said, "No, we throw those in a big bin and sell like 50 of them at once to other stores for like $20." I said I'd pay an extra $1 for just one, but they refused. Stupidity.

Prices in general were pretty wacky. One new game was $20 at one store and $5 at another. Several others were like that, too.

Turns out the prices in the price list were wrong in most cases. Sometimes a dollar, sometimes as much as 10. I kinda wish I'd had them scan Borderlands and AC2 now, since they quoted me $60, but I bet they were lower.

I got (pre-tax):
:ps3:
Smackdown vs Raw 2008 (new)--$11.40
Mini Ninjas (original case/manual)--$18
Red Faction Guerilla--$10.80
Uncharted 2--$30.00
:ps2:
Tokobot plus (original case/manual)--$3
Romance of the Three Kingdoms X (new)--$9

So I finally went in to my local store again (first time since the "sale" first started). It was the last day for rentals (movies only) apparently. I have one more free rental to use for March but oh well (didn't have it with me). They had converted all the games over for sale on Tuesday and get this: the clerk told me some guy came in and bought over $3000 worth that first day! She said it took him over 2 hours to check out because he kept grabbing more and more. So he got a bunch of scratched up ex-rental game for 40% off. That really astounds me. Needless to say they have pretty much nothing left for any future drops. Incredible.
