Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

i think some ppl might thnk your a douche ...but in all honesty it's good your trying to help them out...alot of stuff I find out on the web about HWV...the employees have no freaking idea.
Went by my local store and told the employee that all Movie Gallery's (Hollywoodvideo) store are closing soon. And they going to liquidate soon. He responded, "All I know is that our store is staying open."

He then said, "DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION?!" I told the dude that I'm just giving you a heads about your job man. He wasn't so happy about the news I guess. I rather let them know now and not when the doors a closed the next time they come back for work.
As of right now they're NOT closing all of the stores, so what you did there was give those clerks undue worry. Good going.:applause:

Ya, but if you say that next year at this time, you'll just be rubbing it in! ;)

Well since there was 2 of them 3 miles apart from each other. And one of them already closed 7 months ago. Giving them undue worry? The 1st store that closed had no warning at all and closed everything up without telling the employees until the day they actually closed. So like I said before, its it just best not to say anything to them? Don't you think it will great to tell them that there company they are working for file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy for the 2nd time?

Are you really giving him the heads up though? Is his information that his store is "staying open" any less informed than your statement that "all Movie Gallery's (Hollywoodvideo) store are closing soon"? Are you familiar with what a Chapter 11 is, how it impacts the company or how it differs from a Chapter 7 or 13? Also, what does "closing soon" mean? His idea of "soon" and your notion of "soon" might be completely different.

I apologize to Super_Dawn for adding to this discussion, but this is the type of post that compels me to comment.

But what if they already know the company is in the shitter and that stores have been closing already? What if for some of them it doesn't matter since it's only a second job or so? There are times when it's best to keep your mouth shut, this was one of them.

In our own opinions we are right in our own minds. I knew a couple of ex-hollywood employees that had there store closed down. It was their only job that they had and it was very depressing for them and other workers as well. I'm just trying to prevent this happing again to other people. Other people just want to ignore the issue or simple think that the workers know everything thats going on with there company. I will not discuss this issue anymore. Apologies to Super_Dawn
To the OP:

I would like to see a recommendation in the original post for people to burn up any store credit or gift cards they may have, their store closing or not; I would not even recommend putting money down on a preorder at this time. I doubt they will value it during total liquidation. It is not worth the risk at this point.
Hmm..I do think most know that they should definitely use credit asap rather than taking the chance of their store closing. ...I'll think of something to put in the op.
We need to find someone for Super Dawn to pass the torch to.
I know... right! It was fun keeping you guys updated and informed...sad to see it end. I can still update the op and answer most questions until then...
I wish I'd still have an insiders info to game deals after this, but my other job is operations mgr at a movie theater...

I think anyone who works for this company knows its fate and is probably on edge about the entire situation. That's all I'm gonna say.

..and no apologizes for the extra discussion...unless it gets out of hand. ;)

It looks like the current game deal for stores staying open could possibly change any day depending on if they do the current one for a month or 2 months this time.

Went to the only Jackson, MS store that's currently closing (only because I happened to be near it). Old movies were 3 for $12 and new releases were $8. Games were 40% off, and they weren't selling the rentals (they had them all one a shelf where you couldn't get to them, so I guess they're shipping them out since the store closes in 5 days). Store was a complete wreck and there were zero deals to be had.

my store is doing 50% off games now...still not worth biting to me

I have been to several BBV liquidation sales and I have not seen any discounts on games over 60%, however those stores did shipp their remaining product to other stores. Now because of so many closures theres hardly any remaining hollywood still open in my area.

Anybody ever seen hollywood liquidation sales on games more than 60% off?

my hollywood closed two days ago. The highest percentage it reached was 60% and 3 for 10 for the movies. When it reaches 60%, i suggest bite, there probably won't be anything left.

Went last Wednesday at 40% and they had a ton of stuff, but I didn't grab anything.
Went today at 50% and they were wiped out pretty good.

Did pick up a Wii case, 4 360 cases and a PS3 for 50 cents each just to have for backups. They also came with the original cover art for some random games, but no manuals.

I've haven't seen any liquidation sales go over 60%, unless you count a Sam Goody sale back in 2006 or so at the one mall out in NJ(Paramus Park). It was within their last week of business and they had tons of games and guides left.

Unfortunately, I was a dumbass and I didn't buy a damn thing since I figured most of it was overpriced still at 80% off. They had some good guides for $1-2 each and some semi rare PS1 stuff that was somehow still unsold. I still kick myself over that decision.

Went today at my store, they had 50% off blu ray and games, core movies were 3 for $10, core blu-rays were $8 and new release dvds were 3 for $20. A lot of the movies were still there, especially the core ones, the new releases were being bought up though. As for games, ps3 was nearly wiped clean except for one small section, nothing really jumped out except for Killzone 2. 360 had a lot more games, but it was down to about 3 sections. Wii had about 1 section worth. I ended up getting Virtua Tennis 3 and Guitar Hero World Tour both for 360 for about $13.

The HMV closing near me has hit 50% of mode on everything. Unfortunately most of the games available were raped early on so slim picking. Picked up just a few stuff.

Shadow of the Colossus new for $7.50 (traded my old incomplete version to gamestop for $10.50).
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories new for $15
Rogue Galaxy for $5.

Then I got a couple used 360 stuff Golden Axe and Marvel UA for $2.50

My store is at 50% off for used games and blu-rays now too.

Clerk confirmed that they're being told not to check any disks to keep the lines moving, but I'm glad I asked because I passed on a Wario Shake it and a Conduit with some serious radial groove action.

Did grab pikmin $10 and de Blob $9. Not great prices but I've been wanting them and they were complete w/ manual.

This store is a closing clearinghouse. I'm a bit surprised really, only 100k people in a 40+ mile radius. Would have figured they'd do better sending them closer to a large city. Most stock by far I've ever seen in terms of games. I've been twice this past week and both times they were unboxing a ton of stuff.

seems like most of the stores are staying open till the end of march...wonder how low the prices will go on games and dvds

im waiting on 5 dollar games(unlikely)

and $1 dvd new releases (very likely)

That's kind of funny. The stores I've been visiting barely have anyone in them.

If blu-rays ever get under $5 I might go crazy in that place. With our games mostly wiped out, that's pretty much the only thing I'm looking for.

I may actually check the one Movie Gallery that's closing that still had copies of MW2 and a few other recent games in stock last week tonight, since it's their last week in business. Although, whoever rented out the newer games probably just said fuck it and are trying to keep the games probably.

I still find it funny that they had newer titles but were actually renting them out during a closing sale.

I got Bayonetta for $25 (horrible game, will immediately trade it on goozex). The place I went to had some decent games left, but at 50% off they werent worth it to me (Chronicles of Riddick for 10, Wet for 17). Im sorry to the employees who are losing their jobs.

I still feel sorry for the employees losing their jobs, but the Pittston(PA) Movie Gallery that's in it's last two days has jack and shit left. Most of the movies(save for 2: Godfather 2, Changing Lanes) are total no name crap and not worth even bothering to pick up and there's virtually no games left either.

The games are still only at 40% off and yet the shnooks still bought up everything just about. Only decent game left was SW: Battlefront 2 for Xbox.

They did have an angled magazine rack that looks like it could hold about 40-50 magazines for $5, but I wasn't sure if I needed it or not.

Here's an update from an Ohio CAG. The Brook Park OH HWV will close effective 3/15. All core movies are $2.99 each or 3/$8. New release movies are $5.98 each or 3/$15. Unopened games and movies are 60% off. Blu Rays, 360 (except one copy of NHL 07), PS3, DS, Wii were all cleared out. They had a few unopened xbox games. Place was pretty bare over all, but feel free to try on the movies, they still had a few decent DVDs left.

Thanks for the update, Bargain Hunter Bob. I was thinking about dropping by there sometime this week, but not anymore if most of the games are already cleared out.
Thanks for the update, Bargain Hunter Bob. I was thinking about dropping by there sometime this week, but not anymore if most of the games are already cleared out.
If you're of the NE OH area Zann, check out HWV/Game Crazy in Berea. They just started their sales. Both had 10-20% off of their games, but their sale is just a week old from what I was told. They still had a very good selection all around (PS3/360/Wii/BR/DVD), but as that percentage increases, the good items disappear quickly. Brook Park was pretty much cleared out of anything decent by the time the sale hit 30%.

My Hollywood Video got some stock in from the Game Crazy that closed last month. Picked up:
Persona 4 (Complete) $13
Rogue Galaxy (Complete) 4.XX
Persona 4 Strategy Guide $5
Super Mario Galaxy Collector's Edition Strategy Guide $7.50
Super Paper Mario Strategy Guide $5
Rest were a bunch of DVDs

They had Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition for $30, but I already have it.

The Fairlawn, OH Hollywood Video had several copies of DoA: Ultimate new(one of them was still factory sealed) for $10.xx today when I dropped by.

The Movie Gallery right outside Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC is closing. I checked that damn list up and down for that store and didn't see it and sure enough, on my way to get some McDo late tonight, they have signs up.
Probably stop in tomorrow at lunch and see what they got.

Wii games are basically gone unless you want SPRay, madworld, or some High School Musical Game. Movies they have aren't worth the 3 for 4 deal unless you haven't watched them. Blu Rays arn't worth 8 bucks in my eye... im cheap :p
Most games are gone at Lake Forest CA hwv, but I did pick up wwe svr 2010 for 25$ today.
omg you poor soul!

stopped by a local HWV it just put up closing signs this week, its connected to a gamecrazy also closing

Game vault were 20% off @ HWV and everything was 10% off @ gamecrazy
new release video games weren't on sale yet, but this is the last week to rent games and movies

I asked the HWV clerk and she they are only staying open 4 weeks

I didn't buy anything since Im pretty sure the discount will increase to 40% soon

anybody else have any input on when drops took place at HWV only staying open for a month?

Yeah I stopped by earlier today at Berea' HMV/Game Crazy and they still had a lot of games to choose from. HWV game vault was 20% off and Game Crazy was at 10% off. I didn't buy anything yet, but I might check back within the coming weeks. Hopefully most of the good stuff won't be gone when i come back. Sad that they are closing though, I thought they were safe.

Hollywood Video in Niles, OH(Eastwood Mall) had a sign up saying they were closing. I didn't remember seeing that last time I was over there.

The one I posted yesterday, outside Shaw AFB, SC, doesn't have any good deals yet. 7.99 core movies and 20% off Game Vault. It was disappointing to see all the new games gone, because those people probably got hosed but oh well. There are some Foreign movies I want, but I will wait for further price drops.
I need to keep checking back I suppose...

My store is only 20% off, but I think it just started to liquidate. Lots of games still there, and they are still renting movies and games. I saw Opoona for Wii at $9.99 ($8 after discount) so I picked it up.

I'll return in the weeks to come. Library movies were 3 for $20, new releases were 3 for $25. I looked for Studio Ghibli movies but couldn't find any.

I stopped by my store this morning. Everything is still peachy, but there are some new employees I haven't seen before.

forgot to mention the clerk actually gave me a huge master list of the games on sale and the prices for all systems...unfortunatley I didnt have a camera phone...maybe someone can come across it...It was at a store that only recently put up closing signs today
forgot to mention the clerk actually gave me a huge master list of the games on sale and the prices for all systems...unfortunatley I didnt have a camera phone...maybe someone can come across it...It was at a store that only recently put up closing signs today
Do you remember the price for any of the systems cost? I was totally just focusing on games only for some reason, that systems just didn't cross my mind.

Hollywood Video in Missouri City, TX (southwest of Houston) has been having their closeout sale for about 2 weeks now. Right now, their sales are

- Newly-released blu-rays: $9.99
- Old blu-rays: $5.98
- Games: 50% off
- Newly-released DVDs: 3 for $15
- Old DVDs: 3 for $10

Most of the good games are gone. Just picked up Juno and Superbad on blu-ray for $5.98 each (about the same as HWV's online sale). Waiting for the prices to drop a bit more before possibly picking up more...

For anyone in the area, the Hollywood Video in Scranton, PA in the Keyser-Oak Shopping Center is closing down.

The discount is only on 20% for 'game vault' and any newer release titles are MIA already(shipped off to the other local HWV that's NOT closing), so there is jack and shit left already.

They're still renting games and movies out at this point. Up until I went to the two closing Movie Gallery stores in the area, I had never heard of closing stores still renting stuff while going through the liquidation process.

Just picked up 200 Wii, PS3, and 360 cases, most with no stickers and most with manuals and original cover art. Also included were a metric shit-ton of Guitar Hero games with codes. :D

Only $10.63 after tax!

Went to a movie gallery with a Gamezone attached and everything just 20% there as well. I wanted to grab a new copy of Ponyo but it was only 20% 19.99. No used copies. Blu-Rays are $15 used, used movies 3 for $20 library and $25 for newer releases.

Tons of games, just still too pricey. 20% is peanuts.

Well, the MG outside Shaw AFB I think may have jacked their prices up while I was on a three-day business trip to Iowa. New dvds are now 9.99 while last weekend I believe they were 7.99. There are some foreign movies I want, like Tokyo Gore Police, but they aren't closing for another 6 weeks, so I will risk holding out.
Games are still 20% off, but now they actually have a stickered price on there, where as before they didn't. PS3 games have been wiped out but there are still a ton of 360 games. And whereas the new rentals last weekend were available for purchase, now they are rental early.
There is still time I suppose.

Oh yeah, what are the adult rooms like in your Movie Galleries? I was wanting to hit up Subway really bad, so I didn't venture in, but I had never noticed the 'Adult Only' room before at mine. Think I would be able to find "Never Ending Asians" or are they typically kinda lame?
