Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

A MG near me just closed this past week; stopped by on the last day, and they had dropped everything to 80% off. Made out quite nicely; although the super new AAA titles were long gone, I was actually surprised at how much good stuff was left, many games that still trade in for $15-20, as well. I think the most expensive game I bought was $10 (King of Fighters XII).

When we were done checking out (literally one hour later), I came away with about 30 games, and my wife had 8 DVD's and 1 Blu-ray. Our total was right at $190, OTD! Also got two giant wall shelves to put my games on; I'll have to post pics over in Deal Discussion.

Anyone know if the Canton, OH one is still open? I'm heading down to the strip tomorrow sometime, and would like to hit up the HWV on 30th street if it is still open.

i picked up 100 more official cases today, most PS3, PS2, and Wii, with some 360 and a couple Xbox and GC.

You planning on opening your own game store with all of those cases? Seriously, I know I used to have a ton of extra cases for 360/Xbox/PS3 from the Blockbuster and Gamestop employees giving me some when I asked real nice and all, but that's going a bit far, no?

Everyone I asked told me their cases were going off to a HWV that was staying open.

Well one of the stores in my area that was supposed to be staying open is now closing as well. Decided to stop by to see if there was anything to keep my eye on (since this store is only at the 20% mark), and found a sealed No More Heroes for $19.99. Also found a complete GoW Collection for the same price, unused GoW3 demo and all. Swung by the other store in the area and found Valkyrie Chronicles for $15 and Eternal Sonata for $12.50 @ the 50% off mark. Both were in HWV cases, but had mint discs and came with manuals. Guess HWV decided to give me a parting gift :D

Two stores right near me are closing, so I picked up:

The Beatles: Rock Band $17
Perfect Dark Zero $2.50
Red Faction Geurilla $9
GTA Episodes from Liberty City $15
The Outfit $4
Fear 2 $9

not bad imo. There was more (Quake Wars, Chronicles of Riddick: AoDA, GH 5 and so on) but I didn't want to spend to much.

went to a closing Hollywood Video, prices were terrible...I plan on going back in a couple weeks to check prices....

Went to a store in Salt Lake today and totally scored!! All the leftover guides from the attached Game Crazy were out and 60% off! Walked away with the following:

Banjo & Kazooie Nuts & Bolts
Disgaea 2
Disgaea 3
Infamous
Kingdom Hearts 358\2 Days
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Resident Evil 4 (Wii Edition - SEALED!!)
Soul Nomad
Tomb Raider Underworld
Uncharted 2

and my best score yet...

a completely sealed, in perfect condition, guide to Persona 3!!!! Couldn't fucking believe it!!

one of the stores in my area has been closing since mid feb...it's on it's last 10 days adn only 60% off...no real good deals

two nearby stores simultaneously put up closing signs and are 20% off (same for the attached gc)...they said they will only be open for 6 to 8 weeks

i hope someone who works there can give us insight on when drops take place.

Picked up HAWX and Madden 10 for 70% off (both :360:) at two different stores today.

Also found a crapload of porn, but I have nowhere to sell it so it wouldn't be worth it. It was $1.98 for new releases and $1.20 - $6 for older stuff.

(PM me if you are in NE Ohio and want to know where it is)

My store is at 30% off. (Was told that it would drop on Thursday, but it actually dropped on Tuesday as they told me tonight. Guess I'll be calling in more often.)

LOL It was only up to 2/$5 for porn at the Movie Gallery I stopped at during their last week of operation a few weeks ago, though I think I could've sold some of it to my one buddy(or my dad).:D
Do the stores that are closing have sales on every single thing?
I was able to buy 3 "27 inch SDTV's at $20 a pop, the catch was we had to climb up a ladder and take them down ourselves, it was hell.

A few days later I was in there and a guy bought a mop with the bucket thing, that's probably the strangest purchase I've seen from HWV.

File Cabinets were still at $50 bucks..

gonna go in and purchase some more games, couple movies and some tv seasons in the next day or two, mine is closing for good April 1st.

Sorry I haven't been around. Been quite a few stressful (unrelated to HWV) weeks for me. My store is in its last 7 days! Picked clean...nothing left. I saw we had x360-mxatv Reflex for around $22...3 copies.

Again, sale prices drop depending on the liquidator...there is no set day.

I will call the Brandon store near me to get an update on non-closing deals so I can update the OP. Unless someone who still works for a non-closing store knows...... ;)

Yup...Everything is for sale (except cash drawers, monitors, couple other items) At my store we have empty display cases 5 for $1...lots of little plastic shelving units for about $3 a piece. Things like that...

Yea you have to remove everything yourself. I can't remember the exact legalities of it.

I went back to a local store on a whim. Last time I went there was crap left at 60% off. But today...70% off (signs still 60%) I got: 360 Bayonetta 13.50, PS3 Assassin's Creed 2 15.00, PS3 Beatles Rockband 10.50. The guy working said he found those in a drawer and had put them out today. He also told me that discounts were actually 70%. I have a feeling someone will be bummed when they check that drawer this weekend (probably their wierd manager). Their last day is Sunday. This is the manager that refused to give or sell me empty cases.

I went to a HWV 2 miles from my house (just started closing sales this week) and they gave me free cases and even case art from games on sale. The kid working told me they had just dumped hundreds of cases at a local elementary school's recycle bins. I went there and picked up probably a couple hundred PS3, XBOX 360, PS2, and even new unused generic black rental cases in bundles. 90% of the PS3 and 360 cases had original art work in them, many good ones - MW2, Batman Arkham, Valkyria...etc. The funny part is the labels showed they were from the store that refused to sell me them....In the end i got all I wanted for free!
Today was the last day for my HWV. Everything was 20 for $10. Of course most of the good stuff was already gone. It was a bit sad to see it close.
is that a typo? 20 for $10?

Damn. At $20 a pop, I'd take a chance on one of those display tv's they had at the local HWV that's closing. But I think they started taking them down months ago, even before they were announced as closing..

I wonder if they are putting stuff on the website before they tell the stores. I went to one of the ones near me that said it was closing, and the lady inside said that they were staying open.

I'm thinking I might...might take all of ours if they don't sell. I just don't know where I'd store them.
is that a typo? 20 for $10?
If it was the very last day of the store...probably true. At my last store we were down to 90% off...I was getting stuff for .50 cent to a dollar a piece. It's possible.

Hm..our tv's went for $50 at my store!...which I found weird because at my last store they were between $25-30. Guess it varies. I don't know why they bought them anyway...most barely work.
I wonder if they are putting stuff on the website before they tell the stores. I went to one of the ones near me that said it was closing, and the lady inside said that they were staying open.
Would not doubt it. All employees are pretty much in the dark till it happens. I had the liquidator calling me; explaining the process before it was official that we were closing.

Damn, about every store withing a 65 mile radius is closing store by store. Its getting very close to my HWV store. Its 1 of 2 stores still left open thats not liquidating within that range.

I think that was why some of the tv's were taken down at the one HWV by me that's now closing. I think most of them were not working or just barely. Now, if they had upgraded to an LCD screen or two....then I'd consider it for $20-25.

Wittnessed a very pissed off customer who purchased 10 of the TVs a few weeks back and was back in the store arguing with the HWV folks. Apparently they didn't tell her when she purchased them that it was her responsibility to actually take the TVs down and remove them from the store. They also wouldn't issue a refund. She was livid.

I suppose she expected them delivered at a time and place of her choosing? Since I know how hefty some of those big old SDtv's can be(from lugging my mere 20" one up n down 13 steps to my basement entertainment room to use with my PS3 for a while), I wouldn't really blame her.

Personally, you would think they would have them taken down off of those ceiling mounts already if the store is closing and liquidating everything, but I guess they truly don't wanna be liable and risk the employees who're losing their jobs suing them if they get hurt.

Right now mine are in a pile in the back of my explorer! lol

My store was up to 30% for everything. The new games were still being rented and not sold though. I had some games in my hands but since the GS price with the CAG16 and Edge card are still comparable, I decided against it. Especially since sales are final and I'm not going to chance it over a buck or so.

When they get up to 40% or include the newer games, I'll bite.

Haha...yea, I could just see piles and piles of them out on my patio or stuffed in my already full storage closet.

I already bought ~300 cases(in my trade list now) and found another HWV that I may be able to get another 200-300 at for cheap or free.

If so, then hopefully my mom won't kill me for getting that many more. :p

The Easton Avenue Bethlehem PA store is down to its final 5 days. The remaining games are just about all PS2 and xbox sports games from 2003. The 3 girls working seemed to be in a really good mood though so it wasn't completely depressing.

HOLY SHIT!

I just went up to a HWV to see about buying some more cases, and they couldn't sell them yet because they hadn't been told what to do with them, but they let me grab some. I grabbed an ODST case for the dual disc case. I opened it on the way home to check if the manual was in there, and to my surprise, the CAMPAIGN AND MULTIPLAYER DISCS WERE STILL THERE!!!!!!!!!

Free ODST!

My store is at $1.99 or less for DVDs, Blu-Rays and Games were wiped out.. Signs on the street corner saying they were in the final 3 days. Sad to see this store go, as it's been around for about 12 years now. Even Blockbuster has had it rough in the area, with closing a couple stores as well.

FYI

one of the stores in my area that just started liquidating about 3 weeks ago has a GC attached to it...overheard clerk saying they will be shut down on monday!

SO if you have any Game Crazy credit i'd use it up...sounds like this weekend may be your last chance but YMMV of course

BTW thats awesome...I been hoping for that the GC i been going to has been giving me cases every time I go there and ask....im still hoping that i'll find a game in there
;)

while I was at HVW I passes on Band Hero for $10

kinda regret it now...anybody have any thoughts on if it's worth it?

I didn't like Band Hero. It went a lot faster beat-wise than the Rock Band games, so I did much worse at it.(I liked the slower beat of Beatles RB and RB2)

How do I get remaining GC store credit put on a gift card? I checked the store locator and found my store closing/ or closed already since it's not there...

>>> Nope. Not a typo. Also, you don't have to buy 20 to get the deal; they'll charge you 50 cents for blu-rays, DVDs, and games. I was able to get 2 blu-rays for 50 cents each. Best blu-ray deal ever. Got X360 Eternal Sonata for 50 cents.

Drove by the store today because I saw cars parked out front. It was just the former employees gathering their stuff- they waved and said the store is closed. Again, a bit sad. I hope everyone gets to keep their jobs at another location.

Free ODST!
I saw 2-3 boxes laying on the floor labeled PS3 boxes, 360 boxes, etc and they said they were NOT selling them and they were shipping them back to corporate. This happened at all 3 of my stores. They were only selling stupid plastic jewel cases. :bomb:
