Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!
Yikes....i'd be careful with the damages held behind the counter...some even a resurfacing machine will not be able to fix.
Got even luckier on this one. I brought the discs to be resurfaced at the local video place and as luck would have it, the girl behind the counter was the older sister of one my students from last year. She did them all for free and they all look like brand new and play perfect:D
I'm also looking for a PS3 case/artwork/manual for Darksiders to complete the disc only copy I currently have....
I have one. PM me and we can work something out. :)

picked up gta4 EOLC 15 bucks for half cover art "booo!!", Marvel UA2 12 bucks half cover art but with manual, wii conduit 10 bucks half cover art with manual, wii COD4 20 bucks half cover art. might go back to check out avp.

mag for 20 would have been great but someone bought those at 30% off.
they had 50% off every game. i could have got forza 3 for $25 and resistance 2 for $15. but i opted to get zombieland bluray (ugly rental box) for $10 and a mint condition factory sealed pineapple express unrated bluray for $12.50. should i go back for resistance 2? i dont wanna spend $25 on a used forza 3.
same here i saw forza 3 and at 25 i'm sure i could get a new copy with manual and everything at that price and decided to pass.
I forgot to tell you the final price with discount was about 1 grand. Even though i said i bought them my roomate also said he would repay me for some games he wanted like Heavy Rain, MLB 10 The Show, Motorstorm, Batman AA and i think Fallout 3. Most of the others i plan on flipping to BB,GS,or TRU. All these were for the PS3 and i only have PS3.
damn that's a crazy ass haul. i did not see all those games at my hwv maybe someone did the same thing haha... nice pick up though!

 Don't be expecting the Half Life hardcover for it though. I might give that up though if someone were to have both Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Aliens Vs. Predator for PS3 available though.;)

My store has 8 days left. On Sunday they'll be dropping prices and they'll keep dropping them until they close. I need to go back next week. Games are cleaned out, but if I can find some titles for peanuts I'll pick them up. They are at 60% off right now.

I picked up brand new unopened copies of the original Day of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead on Blu-Ray for $5 each. Dawn of the Dead is one of my favorite horror films ever. I couldn't just let them sit there and hope they are still there next week.

When I bought all my games last week at HWV, they gave me the rental cases as well as the original ones. However, two of them didn't come with cases because he couldn't locate them, so he gave me the opposite system's case instead. So if anyone winds up needing a Dante's Inferno Divine Edition PS3 case or Borderlands 360, I have 'em.

I now have emtpy generic cases with rental artwork for Bayonetta, Batman, Mass Effect 2, NMH2, and a few other games that I don't need so I just stuffed them in the basement.

It was the opposite for the store I visited yesterday. They had the case/artwork/manual for MAG, but for no other games, though they did have 5-6 cases for Dark Void. All in all, it cost me $36.10. Not bad, but I was wishing they had AVP and BF:BC2.

I guess some shnook like the ones who shop at Gamestop came in and didn't care about the real cases/artwork/manual. Either that or one of the employees is hiding the discs till the last day and didn't expect anyone to ask bout the cases.

If that's the case, then they're in for a surprise.;)

I'm not going to officially post it, because they haven't issued a press release, but something big happened today.. visit movie gallery's wikipedia site for information.

Went looking for those other two cases for you up at a different HWV, IATCG, but they didn't have them.

However, I did pick up the following guides(and Harry Potter Blu-ray for $7) for $2/each:
Magna Carta 2
PoP LE
Wolfenstein
Heavenly Sword

All new, and HS even had the shrinkwrap still!

Actually I need the GAMES for Aliens Vs. Predator and Bad Company 2, as I bought the cases for a whopping SIXTEEN CENTS. LOL

I found a Darksiders case/artwork/manual(even had the little slip saying how to add that other weapon via Vulgrim AND the now void Red Faction: Guerrilla promo slip)at a Gamestop and they let me 'buy' it for the cost of a $5 pre-order deposit on Transformers: War For Cybertron.

I'll probably fully pre-order it from a much closer GS store once I see videos/reviews for it(its not due till June), but I wanted to give them a little something for allowing me to just take the case and all for a copy I got elsewhere.
...and then you'll cancel it later, and crush their last will to live... :)
I might or I might just put it over on another game if I even remember I have the $5 pre-order there. Maybe I'll just keep rolling it over to new pre-orders after the game I put the initial $5 down on comes out to keep them buttered up.;)

Found out my last Movie Gallery in the entire area is going to go out of business shortly as well. WTF. That is the last rental place for...oh, 50 miles or so. I'm already tapped out enough as it is!

all mines are closing with 50% off, picked up:
Batman:Arklum Asylum
M:UA 2
Mini Ninja
Sponge bob: Truth or Square
Wii Sports Resort/ motion plus
Spiderman: Web of Shadows
Ninja Blade

Assuming they're still there today, I may go back for the disc only copies of Bayonetta and Dante's Inferno for PS3 since they're both only $20 after the 60% off.

You could try going to Gamestop and seeing if you could throw down a $5 pre-order(if you have some cheap credit) and ask them if you could get a case/manual/artwork like I did for Darksiders.

It never hurts to ask.

they'll do that? that might be worth a try. =P thanks for the tip!

Went to my nearest closing Movie Gallery yesterday (South Dallas, Red Oak). EVERYTHING is now 70% off sticker price. For about $36 picked up (all for the 360):

Trivial Pursuit
Civilization: Revolution
Infinite Undiscovery
The Last Remnant
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Saints Row 2

Also, they didnt have a lot left, so I asked if it was possible they had games in the drawer that they didnt have boxes on the shelves for, and the lady let me dig through their drawer of games!!! That's how I found Mercs 2 and SR2.

For anyone interested I also saw in the drawer some more games without boxes on the shelves (again for the 360:
Marvel UA 2
Madden 09
Another copy of Saint's Row 2

Happy Hunting!

do they organize the games that have cases on the shelves from those without in a seperate drawer?

no, they have all their games in one drawer, so if you can get them to let you look the the drawer itself, you'll find a lot more games than are on the shelf. :)

Man, my HWV was cleaned out today. No current gen games at all, but they had PS2 "grab-bags" of 10 games each for $10. You don't know what's in there other than the first game, as the others are all hidden behind it. Still, it's not terrible unless it's all sports games.

Movies were 6 for $10. Not much of a selection at all.

I have a movie gallery that is near work and I'll swing by tomorrow but I think another clean-out is likely. We have one other Movie Gallery in my town, down the street from where I live, and I've heard that will be going out of business soon, too.

I've updated the OP with the new information....

All Hollywood Video, Movie Gallery, and Game Crazy stores will be closing their doors permanently.

There was a company wide conference call the other day that revealed this information. The courts have rejected their restructuring plan. All stores will begin the liquidation process. This will take place over a 10-week period. Thanks to Scorch for this info.

When they put out an official press release I will add it to the OP. Otherwise I've included many many articles on the matter...sad sad sad. I'm not surprised by any of this of course. Can't believe they held on this long.

thats sucks, but im not suprised, a month ago or so i drive over an hour to the closest game crazy and spent my $300+ credit on games i didnt really want for this exact reason

i knew this was going to happen when they closed down "new" HWV/GC stores (not even a yr old), the managers at each store swore that they werent going to close.....i wonder what there doing now............

RIP HWV/GC

I finally got my online order from HWV after almost a month ago i placed it. They never put the 2nd disc for Blade 2 & 30 Years of Friday The 13TH. Then Starship Troopers 3 was unplayable. Then there was one where it skips and freezes often. I bought 8 they shipped 7 and the main one i wanted they canceled.

There email support never gets back to me except after about 10 emails why my stuff never shipped back when. Now i got to somehow contact them to fix these problems. I thought blockbuster can be bad but dang i was mad and shocked how badly they messed up my order. There was 2 discs that had goo or dirt all around the read side of the discs. They could of at least cleaned them...

Has anyone have luck getting them to replace the bad or missing discs before? I think since they all ship in single disc cases they do not bother with the 2nd disc. I guess i will never ever buy from there website ever again. I want to see what i am buying before i hand my hard earned cash over.

You're pretty much out of luck. Best you could do is a chargeback through your credit card for the damaged/incomplete items.

Until I saw your location posted as Maine I thought maybe you were shopping at the same HWV as I did earlier today. They had jack and shit, even worse than the last time.

Someone that supposedly 'got hurt at work n got a big settlement' came in with their family and bought SIXTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS worth of shit.

So much for the PS3 game section that was there last Thursday. All they had left were some crap games for the 360, tons of sports games across all platforms and a shitton of junky no cover, no manual PS2 stuff.

Hopefully since all stores are going under now I can hit up the other "better" store and grab some stuff once they start liquidating.

At least now I know I won't have to hear the 'oh those are still being rented' bullshit that stopped me from getting every game I wanted from this closing. I'd never heard of a liquidator allowing a rental store to keep renting stuff up till midway through their closing process till this sale.

I still feel sorry for the employees though and I wish them all the best, though the store I was at today was the one that always claimed the $5 sale wasn't going on when the other one would still be doing it.

If you have a problem with anything related to Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery/Game Crazy, call 1-8SpeakToUs (1-877-325-8687).

The $5 sale was probably the best haul I've ever managed. The employees at my HWV were the best and didn't charge me $6 per game for shipping so I placed a massive order with them last summer. They'll be missed. :(

And that's real nice about the back settlement people. Way to put that money to good use. What scabs. I hope most of their movies and games don't work. :)

Yeah. That reminded me of the guys who came from out of state(PA here, they came in from NY)who were hitting every HWV/GC during the last $5 sale.

They were walking out with a stack of about 30-40 games when I was walking in during that last last gen sale.

picked up Battlestations midway for only 8 bucks with manual! 50% of 14.99. Waiting for 60% discounts but all the games are dwindling away to old xbox 360 titles.

That's all that was left at my closest store already. Although they had a copy of Band Hero for 360 with 70% off of whatever price it was. I didn't bother checking though, since I don't have a 360 and I doubt it's a flippable game even at 70% off.

As an employee of the company I am glad they are going under, and I wish they were gone now. The people who run it are utter scumbag degenerates, and I'm sorry I ever worked for them.

I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience. I'm not sorry I worked for hwv...i'm just upset that mg thought they'd do well by buying hwv when they did. I had some great experiences at hwv, met one of my best friends thru working there, and a lot of my experience from being a shift leader helped me score my promotion at my other job.

Just picked up ALL of the following for a TOTAL of $10.50:

:360: Saints Row 2
:360: Unreal Tournament III
:360: Rockstar Table Tennis
:ps3: Fuel
:ps3: Riddick Dark Athena
:ps3: Warhawk
:ps3: Bigs 2
:xbox: Delta Force BHD
:xbox: Enter the Matrix
:xbox: Sega GT/Jet Set bundle
:gc: SC Pandora Tomorrow

They had a deal where all disc only games were $.99 and somehow I got 12 for $10. They counted and scanned them all, so they didn't miss any.(because I asked how many I had since I just went wild grabbing the disc only ones)

This was at the Niles, OH HWV.(Eastwood Mall) They are on their last 4 days, so I may go back in two days to pick up Wolfenstein, EndWar, and HAWX if they are still there.
