Official Mass Effect: Andromeda Discussion (Hype/Speculation/Anticipation)

My copy of GI just showed up in the mail, read the ME: A article.  Good stuff all around.   Helps to fill in some of the gaps I had about ME: A and I think it's going to be quite the game.

I'm excited to hear/see more about the squadmates. Was there a picture of Liam in the magazine? The online article described him but in the picture he was wearing a full spacesuit and opaque helmet which kinda defeats the purpose.

Same picture, in full combat armor / spacesuit.

It looks like they went through ME1 - 3 + DA: I to try and put together a combat system that seems to work best and the GI author said that it seems to be the best to date. No more split between MP and SP modes for combat, it's one in the same.

Ha! I thought I was the only one left who still got the physical print magazine. Hopefully mine comes today.

I just got a 4K tv.  But it's in our living room and my gaming set up is in a side-room.  I have had no inclination to upgrade the Xbox or PS4 to be HDR 4k compatible.....but this might do it.  sheesh.

That gameplay looks like a perverse fantasy version of ME3 multiplayer but in a campaign.  So damn good.

2/6 for Helmet, nice. Awesome, that looks pretty f'n good. Man, I love that they're using core elements from the Mass Effect series here, a lot of expanding, tweaking and modifying the core elements of what makes Mass Effect great. Love the fact that there's multiple ships, hmm civil war perhaps?

Wow. that Nexus vid gave me goosebumps.  More than the gameplay video from yesterday.  It's really amazing.  They rebooted the series, kept everything we love about the series, and didn't involve the (to some) negative aspects of the OT.

Heads up fellow merch whores: I saw a post on a Funko Pop facebook group I'm a member of showing a screen from Gamestop's computer.  They're going to have at least 2 ME:A Funko Pop's.  They listed a generic figure, could be anything or anyone, and Sarah Ryder specifically.  No dates or anything else.  Still, for a big Funko Pop fan like me, that's awesome news!

Now, if I could just find a cheap Tali.....still kicking myself for not getting her.

Hmm, sounds like they're going with what they did with Dragon Age when it comes to relationships. I'd gather exploration and progression would be influenced off that too.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/12/03/how-mass-effects-relationships-will-evolve-in-andromeda

This is talking to Mac Walters:

"As far as the relationships go, we try to make them less formulaic," he said. "In the original trilogy, they often were you do a couple conversations with them and then it's getting close to the end, it's time to romance. What I wanted to see in this was more of a, well, somebody might want to hop in the sack right away, [or] somebody might never want to hop in the sack because this is too important -- trying to find that more natural way into what a relationship would be like within the constraints of game development. We're trying to make it as open ended as possible."
Umm, you mean like Jack?!

Cool.  Finally news on the novels.  The timing blows if the game is to release in March, but my time-tested spidey sense tells me that the game won't launch until May.  That then gives a couple months to read the first novel before the game comes out.

Alright, alright, Andromeda is finally preordered using Christmas Amazon GCs. Went with the Deluxe Edition, couldn't swallow a CE and its price though.

I found a small scale die cast Nomad on Amazon for $9.99, think matchbox size. No release date or anything, but it might be a nice (and much more realistic) consolation purchase instead of a CE. Linkee below

I have no need or use for an RC Nomad, so I preordered the large die cast one for $100, but the more I think about it.....what the hell am I going to do with that thing? It comes with a steelbook, though. Man, I'm trying to be responsible and sensible, but this is Mass Effect. I guess I'll just leave my preorder for now and see if we get any unboxing vids as we get closer.

You know we're just going to order that $10 one to go with the $100 and $200 ones, right?

I hear Gears of War 4 is good. =P~
I just completed it with my nephew and I thought it was pretty good. A little short but the graphics are very good. I never completed a Gears game so I can't compare it to the others but it was very enjoyable.

Yes, the Gears 4 campaign is good. Great nods back to Gears 3 from a story standpoint, cool surprise ending reveal, graphics are amazing, and punching robots. Definitely worth playing the short campaign if nothing else.

I'm very interested in the books, but I know I have to wait until March.  I hope the next one is good, because that last one was rough.

Happy New Year, gang!  Looking forward to shooting fools in Andromeda with everyone this year.  :twoguns:

Andromeda is getting a bunch of good feedback from the development team.

http://www.gamesradar.com/mass-effect-andromeda-release-date-march-21/"Over this holiday break, developers at BioWare took home a version of the game in what we call the 'holiday build,'" the studio wrote on its blog. "This is a longstanding studio tradition that goes back to the early days of the original Mass Effect. Many load up a PC or console and go home to play as much as possible at their leisure.""Coming back from holiday, the feedback has been great. Getting the endorsement from members of our studio, many of whom played key roles on the original trilogy, was definitely a key factor in helping us lock in on the date."

I don't know about that clip.  Who brings fire into a mech fight?  It had no effect on the shields and you can see that the first mech's health bar didn't go down at all.

Also not feeling the whole "you can swap specializations at will" thing.  One of the great things about an RPG is making choices.  Hopefully this means we won't have to do multiple playthroughs for all the achievements though...

Still keeping my preorder til we hear/see more.

I was thinking the same thing until I realized the video was shown at Nvidia's stage at CES2107 so yeah flame particle tech demo.
