Official Mass Effect: Andromeda Discussion (Hype/Speculation/Anticipation)

This Thursday, we’ll release a new patch that addresses technical fixes (crashes, improved performance), but also adds a number of improvements we’ve heard you ask for, such as:

  • Allowing you to skip ahead when travelling between planets in the galaxy map
  • Increasing the inventory limits
  • Improving the appearance of eyes for humans and asari characters
  • Decreasing the cost of remnant decryption keys and making them more accessible at merchants
  • Improving localized voice over lip sync
  • Fixing Ryder’s movements when running in a zig zag pattern
  • Improving matchmaking and latency in multiplayer
Those two in my opinion needed to be desperately fixed over the other problems. The facial animations and character physics get joked about a lot, but those two highlighted issues were the most annoying.

Over the next two months we’ll be rolling out additional patches which will go even deeper and look to improve several areas of the game:

  • More options and variety in the character creator
  • Improvements to hair and general appearance for characters
  • Ongoing improvements to cinematic scenes and animations
  • Improvements to male romance options for Scott Ryder
  • Adjustments to conversations with Hainly Abrams
So if we didn't like how our Ryder looked, we have to start the campaign over to give him/her a makeover? Seems like you're forced to either start over or go through another campaign for an improved Ryder look.

I'm glad to see they also mentioned the addition of more characters, weapons, and maps for Multiplayer...plus continuing w/the APEX mission feature.

Got enough mission points from my STs to compliment one of my squads with high responsive vehicles IV, negating their slow reflexes negative trait to get 'em a +15 effectiveness. 😎

So, do we know of a list of "if they have trait X, then get them item Y and it's negated" items for negative traits?

The Black Emporium needs to open a branch on the Nexus.

I started doing Gold in multi, and maybe I was just lucky in matchmaking, but I actually had an easier time with it than I ever did with Bronze and Silver. Out of 6 matches, 5 were full extractions, and the other didn't finish because the game crashed. I actually have yet to fail a Gold lol.

I think one of the biggest factors of MP fail is players not using consumables or boosts, let along just not being very good w/the character they picked. I'll use an cobra missile if it will mean saving 5 minutes of kiting some heavies. I think the only consumable I don't use often or at all is ammo packs. That may change should I decide to start playing any soldier or soldier variant again.

Last night's Gold Apex mission was also insane. I think the modifiers were 100% biotic combo detonations & 50% biotic combo damage or something. The Asari were out in full force. Hyrda mechs could get focused down so long as there were 2 krogan zerkers in the same room ahead of it.

While I'm trying to max out my Krogan Merc, RNG said "NO" here's Asari Sentinel X...have at it.

The times I have played Gold without friends have been mostly interesting when searching R/R/G. On PS4, randoms were initially obsessed with Sandstorm/Outlaw thinking it was faster by camping the roofs. Then after the "Easy/Gold Setup" post on reddit, people switched to Outlaw/Zero. It's practically the old White/Geth/Gold where everyone camps in the far left side of the map. Low levels are all in that setup aplenty. Anyway, I hope Outlaw receives a huge buff so there is more variety in the community.

As for consumables boosters in public lobbies, I personally don't use them. From hosts with pita Internet connections to frequent game crashing, I don't blame anyone for not wanting to use them. Luckily, I rarely crash, but it has happened. Running into hosts with pita connections on the other hand... :???:

Yeah, I think we ran it last night to test it out but our 4th random insisted on setting roots further up the lane so things would spawn near by us and thus spoiling our experiment living on easy street. (tWD reference). Still, it was fun on silver to help level up some single digit level players.

As far as consumables, I understand but I'm more in regards to using cobra missiles and health packs. If you don't want to use a boost item in an random game, that's fine. I still get kicked from random parties every so often...but cobra missile? I use at least 1-2 cobra missile per silver match with randoms because I'm a time saver :)

We'll see what tonight brings. I smell a tech storm.

Oh, I did notice the Pariah I think that's what s/he's called in MP can and does execute if you're down. I thought it was only the Raiders, but after one stepped on my neck last night I added that to the list of things to watch out for.

Whoops! I didn't think about those consumables. Anyway, I agree. No reason not to use them. :twoguns:

i have so many boosters from all the basic and advanced packs i opened, i dont see a reason not to use them. unfortunately most of the guns are so weak currently the boosters make no difference

Sent my ST out on a Gold, had 50% success rate and failed the mission. Thankfully no negative trait. I've been sticking with Bronze & Silvers so it looks like I'll stick with that for now until I get something for my STs around the high 60s/low 70s percentage.

I'm finding that the % success means little.  I regularly send my teams out with 25% ish chance of success and they come back just fine.

I had my Lvl 20 ST complete a gold mission with a 66% chance of success. Sent them on a second Gold mission with 50% chance of success, they failed, though no negative trait.

They're on another one with a 65% chance of success, so we'll see how that pans out. My Lvl 18 team went out on a similar 65% chance for success, so we'll see how they both pan out, actually.

EDIT: Lvl 20 finished their Gold mission, so that's another one done.

My ST's have failed 80% - 93% success rates more often than I'd like to mention.

Played some Gold MP last night w/zie Krogan merc. Pretty happy w/the flamethrower w/reach, especially last night when the Hydra mech tried to come into one of the small rooms and there was a krogan zerker in front and a couple raiders behind it...then for the rest of the match I watched as the Krogan Gladiator w/out a speed penalty (me w/Fortify) proceed to smash everything and steal about 80% of my headbutts w/the hammer or his Aura...but in the end we all win when we extract.

hey now...anyone noticed there's 28 unlockable classes now in the Apex app?

I just saw what looks to be a new Rare but no data, name anything. Kinda looks like a lesser Angara Avenger helmet.

Player Abilities
Melee

  • To reduce the effectiveness of repeated melees against tougher enemies, player melee attacks can now be interrupted by enemy attacks.
Challenge Tracking

  • Biotic, Tech, and Combat Detonation Challenges now update on the Challenges screen.
  • Lance and Throw will now successfully increment the Biotic Detonation Combo challenge progress.

So if you dumped 6 pts into the final skill that lets your melee attacks ramp up with each successful attack or melee kill, it's basically going to be like you don't have the skill at all vs. Krogan Berzerkers & heavies? Meh...at just the last 2 days I was able to trade melee 1 v 1 with the zerker as my A_Adept.

The boost to a good number of wpns sounds great until you graduate to the weapon you were really wanting to pull.

I definitely like the challenge tracking on screen, cause numbers that's why.

I wonder what possibly got stealth patched?

Salarian Architech

So far after completing one game: devices are much faster now and target elimination has gone back to the ME3 format with boss units being chosen. Also, the amount of strike missions have increased. I bought a fourth strike team and still have over 600 mission funds.

oh snap. that guy looks fun.

I bought a 4th strike team as well but my mission funds are no way near 600, though I did buy both equipment armors in the mp shop and came to the app late.

Patch is 2.26GB, I'm about to jump on to my campaign file once it's finished. Some screens of the facial improvements.

Anybody's Apex app not letting them log in?

Speaking of the Apex app, there's now green text for the items that help out in specific situations.  Like Quick Response Vehicle IV gets you +40 effectiveness during a hostage situation.    Something I didn't know until now.

Really? It says it the description of the item but yeah I did notice that was added. Made using my Kett Specialist & Hostage Negotiator Squad a super easy choice when I had to, you guessed it, go up against the Kett and rescue the hostages lol.

Update:
Um, holy shit these boss fights are intense on Hardcore. I just faced off against a certain Kett in a certain religious building on a certain cold planet - you're right Ryu those things take forever to take out! Half the time I had to play babysitter with Jaal & Cora. I chose to save the
Angarans and not blow up the facility - next time...
next time. Similar to like the collectors base from ME2 where it'll be a minor stat in the end?! I did kinda get a Collector's base vibe here too.
I'm using the Incisor(with disruptor ammo), Sandstorm and Hurricane with tech/soldier combo powers currently. Zap their shields, freeze them and then blast 'em away with concussive blast! Haha, never gets old.

Anyone play the multiplayer since the patch?

I'm curious to see if the problems have been fixed, especially the matchmaking when you're the host.

Played a bunch last night and I still was getting the same wonky connection each match. I was host for about half of the games I played too and didn't see all that much of a difference unfortunately.

I played a good three hours last night and it was perfectly fine. No connection issues at all and I was the host. I'd say it was the smoothest time playing the MP in this game that I've experienced. I got my first gold extraction and a new Salarian kit out of a premium pack, too.

Good to know.

My ST is now lvl 20 and 2/3 on gold Music's now. I also upgraded them to empowered shields IV. It's nice they tell you what the weapons counters it pairs with now, shows up as green text after you pick the team for whatever mission. Others are lvl 17 & 14, both do Silver & Bronze respectively.

I got tired of playing pure engineer and respec'ed my Ryder into Remnant VI, Charge, and Incinerate. Playing without Charge was definitely doing it wrong.

I kind of wasn't into the "no class restrictions" thing when it was first announced, but I appreciate it now. When I first played ME2, I played as Vanguard but it never quite fit me-- I didn't use the powers effectively. Later playthroughs on Engineer and Soldier, those classes were more on my wavelength and the gameplay really sang. Ironically, with Andromeda I'm finding the opposite.

I rocked the Vanguard from ME1 to ME3 on my BroShep playthrough and on ME2, it was awesome once leveled up.

My ME:A Sara Ryder is dabbling at being an adept, though I need to re-spec since I leveled up Energy Drain instead of Overload, which does nothing to strip shields like Overload does.

I started off auto leveling my character, because I didn't want to be caught off guard in a deadly combat situation but now I'm going soldier/tech. Yeah, the biotic tree for me isn't even used by 1 point. I think I'll do that for the next character. That said, I have dabble with the biotics in multiplayer of course.  :D/

Biotic charge + flamethrower + incinerate is a lot of fun.  I'm running that most often.  Zip in POW, light 'em up with the flamethrower, then back up and hit 'em with incinerate for a flame combo.  Good fun.

That being said, I'm looking forward to trying the Remnant VI.

Did some multiplayer, mainly the new Apex mission for the weekend. I wish the Apex HQ app told you which mission was the new special mission. I've always had done it already but I run through it anyways. Also they don't go in-depth with the green advantage text in the game compared to the app I noticed.

So I went back to a certain cold planet and have Drack & Cora with me. I highly recommend the pair for their dialogues lol. I also threw my research into the Isharay III and by god does it have quite the punch. One shot though, was using Black Widow III before that.

Just realized you can save favorites of your power layouts too, doh. I need to get more skill points to unlock more skills. I've upgraded the ones I've had, mostly, and put points into weapon skill points too. Nothing in biotics power tree, figured at Hardcore difficulty I'd want to stick with a focused two, combat/tech, power strategy.

It feels like every pair of squadmates has hours of things to say to each other when you're riding around in the Nomad. So good.

As quests go, the main storyline with the kett is by far the least interesting thing going on in Andromeda.

Just changed it up to Jaal & Cora and lol yeah loving the convos from your squad while driving around with the Nomad. On Voeld and now at level 22, unlocking IV gear & weaponry. 61% viability and Outpost created! I'm having a blast with this game.

My STs are pretty good now, only occasionally fail golds, I think Bronze & Silver are automatic while my squads are lvl 20 - have two lvl 20 & one lvl 15. Don't really see the need to have more than three STs.

Played a lot of MP since patch, w/out the usual crew.

...umm, so yeah. The Kett got buffed a bit.

Kett/Gold is now near impossible if not impossible w/randoms who don't use cobra missiles or consumables. The sheer number of kett spawns is a noticeable difference. "When did it occur to you?" ...when 2 Kett Anointed w/their gatling guns flanked us in a room on firebase magma, of course the cloaked destined was in there with some chosen and every time we took down someone another Anointed seemed to show up.

Haven't beaten a Kett/Gold w/randoms since...and Kett/Silver feels like Gold.

On the flipside, Silver/every other faction almost seems easier w/the wpn buffs and more seasoned players.

Finally pulled an UR class. Human Kinecticisisisisisct! ...she seems to have so much potential. Still trying to get the whole throw/pull ascending thing down, but when it happens? Damn. It's mighty. I'm also glad they have a human ultra rare in the line up. "Not bad for an alien."

Pulled the Salarian Arch as well and immediately gave him the Shadow sniper rifle because...frick'n laser beams, that's why.

I'm glad to see they added spaces for additional MP classes in the select screen. Hopefully one of them has the ammo/power cell dispenser like they did in ME:3.

The internet goes apeshit over the animations but they don't go apeshit over how good the A.I. is in this game. On a hard difficulty like Hardcore, expect to be flanked, constantly, but I could only imagine how they react to you on Insanity!

I just crafted a sniper rifle with the beam emitter augmentation, lazzzerrzzzz!

Also researched and developed the new Naladen sniper rifle. Didn't get to use it as I went to bed because it was 3AM lol. I also woke up semi early today because it's finally nice out and hit the road with my bike. Need to N7 myself, I am just a slouch Patchfinder atm. :whistle2:

Usually on harder difficulty the enemies have more hps and do more damage while you still do the same throughout all difficulty levels. I welcome smarter AI in campaign...but not looking fwd to boss fights as I've been reading.

As for MP?

I'm all for challenging...what annoys is me how often I see randoms not using consumables (I gave up on ppl using amps because I understand getting kicked and in turn wasting it) when they likely have a stockpile of them. I used all 5 cobra missiles on wave 6 because my random team was fail and we almost failed. I didn't come this far in gold to not extract. One guy used a missile earlier in the waves but other than that, I never witnessed or noticed any of the randoms using medkits or the 1 cobra missile that went flying. This was last night's Gold/Apex mission. I don't take out the Havoc Trooper often but her, distruptor ammo & sniper amp made a difference.

I love & hate this game. hahaha.

Same time tonight.

I'm the type of person who rages easily in games, especially when it's because of stupid or lame game design decisions, but Insanity in this game was not that bad at all. Some parts were time consuming (the Ascendants with their orb shields), but there weren't any parts that were rage-worthy. You just gotta stay mobile and always be aware where the enemies are.

Curious.

All the Apex rewards you get for doing the strike team missions that are for single player only...do you get that per play through? Meaning if I have 2 different campaign games saves do I get access to the entire stockpile each time?

I have to assume that once you redeem them on a character, they're gone. You can only hold 200 at a time anyways.

It has been data-mined awhile back. Angara Exemplar [Overload, Deployable Combat Shield, & Energy Drain] and Turian Agent [Tech Recon Probe, Tactical Cloak, & Proximity Mine.] I'm looking forward to Firebase White again. :p

Sweet. Both of them sound fun.

Did some crazy speed runs last night w/gottdott's crew on the Apex Gold mission. 17 min runs down to 14 min runs because sniper rifle damage boost as a modifier on the sniper rifle farming map is just gravy.

Finally got the Falcon also, slapped on that the human kinecticist and boom. Easily my new favorite class. She's so fragile and scary at the same time. Hopefully more of her cards in the near future come my way.

3 premium packs: Blackwidow II, Falcon II, Sidewinder II, Thokin III & some gold gun mods...pretty happy w/the pulls.

I finished everything on Eos last night, unless someone in another system wants me to come back here. Mildly bugging me that it appears icons on the map will turn from white to blue if you "do everything" at that location, and I still have a few Remnant structures staying stubbornly white (don't care about the mining spots that remain after I scoured every inch of one to find the last gram of minerals to no avail). So maybe there will be a reason? Already have the Cryo benefit that gives locations of hidden caches, so it's not that.

I'm sure there's some kind of random containers I missed, but no missions, tasks or such remain. Both boss battles finished, as well - the one outside was pretty fun.

I am nowhere near the level you guys are at in multiplayer. I play a few rounds here and there, but haven't even touched Gold missions. I have fun flying around the map with a Vanguard or wearing my hammer pants with the Gladiator, then try to earn a little XP for one of the other characters. Trying to hold off playing any characters until they are at least VIII (except the Gladiator-too much fun), there are enough common characters for me to work through first.

My Apex teams are currently 20/20/18/12. With the new way missions refresh, I think I'll eventually get all six populated and equipped. I've already specialized two with top equipment that matches a positive trait, and only my 20s have any negative traits. Just wish the app wasn't so buggy sometimes.
