I know I missed last night, but if people want, I can go into more detail in a practice game when to go for hits and stuff like that.

You play the team games with your create a pro guy, right? But they have different stats from the offline ones, right?

Yes, Rooster.
If anyone thinks I should change position, let me know. Happy to help the team.
Reverse cowgirl.

I have been dreaming about fucking lately... just not with you, heh. fucking and various crazy adventures, including stories that end with the apocalypse.

and getting kicked in the head. :D

Anyways, I never know if my Give take is good. I never understood it really. Is mine good or bad?

It's your ratio of giveaways to takeaways. How many times you give the puck up to the other team against how many times you take it from them. In a perfect world it would be below 1.0 but being around 1/1 is what I aim for.
Anyways, I never know if my Give take is good. I never understood it really. Is mine good or bad?
Well, actually, yeah it was pretty bad this month. Last month you had 2.52 giveaways for every takeaway that you had (hence 2.52/1). But this month, it jumped to 4.22 giveaways for every takeaway. That's coming from either making bad passes or having the puck knocked away. Most everybody else is at a 1.5/1 or better (except Franky who just started playing...and Matt who struggles with it as well). It is something you might want to focus on a little more.

I just got my new Card as well, so my puck control is up there. My Give take this month should be really good. I just would like to know if banking a puck off the boards as a pass counts as a bad pass really. It's usually how I pass the puck to Brandon and others. Sorta my trademark thing almost :p

Any pass that doesn't connect and the other team picks up is counted as a giveaway. Bank passes can be useful in many situations because a lot of times they allow you to get around people without having to slow down. You just gotta make sure you're leading the person properly.

One piece of advice I'll give you, Gary (and I think Alan has mentioned it before) is when you recover the puck in the defensive end with no one on you, you have a tendency to just wait with it and then throw a bomb pass as the other team comes streaking at you. While drawing them to you is a good thing, it would probably be better if you skated the puck up the ice a little first. That way the pass is easier to aim and there's less time for the other team to jump in and intercept it. Also just not passing for the hell of it. If there's nobody on you..it means there's 5 guys to cover the rest of us. If you've got room, skate the puck up yourself.

Understood. But man, banked passes not counting really sucks. I use them a lot to sorta throw off the other team. I will work on it tonight as for holding the puck and what not. Same as my usual. As they say though, old habits are hard to break but I'll try my best. Good thing is though (no offense to anybody so don't take offense to it) you can always count on me being there playing Tuesday and Friday nights.

I think for forwards 1.5 giveaway to takeaway or better is ideal. For defenseman, IMO, it should be about 2.5, because of how much pressure they are usually under.

Should be on about 10, once the missus goes to bed.

Wait, I don't know if I'm confused or if I didn't answer your question properly. Banked passed only count as giveaways if they're intercepted or recovered by the other team. It's not like a giveaway as soon as it hits the boards or anything. But if you do complete them, they should count as a good pass and boost your teamplay. Hopefully that makes sense.

But yeah, you're definitely one of the regulars that we can count on to be there and that helps keep you sharp. It's funny looking at the stats from this past month. We almost have a 1st and 2nd line just based on the number of games people have played. I still wish they would add that for next year's game. If EA is going to insist on only allowing one game at a time, you should be able to take 8 players into a game with you and run two lines. Although I can't imagine how much lag that would cause. They'd probably need a dedicated server to make that possible.

Looking forward to tonight. This will be my last Friday I'll be able to play for at least a couple weeks. One week till I move. Things have been nuts around here, and I feel like I'm living in a cardboard fort. I'll be happy when things can settle back down.

I literaly LOL'd when I read that. Well It's nate final night in his old apartment. Hope things work out well for you nate. Maybe we can get a few wins going for you to make ya feel better! Maybe even a Matt Young story as well!
Well, my router decided to explode last night... how did the night go?
Pretty well actually. We started out winning 3 of our first 5 games, then had a bigger group show up, ran into some problems and then switched over to CAG vs. CAG games. The good thing is, we figured out that you CAN set up private matches and have the games and stats count toward your skater totals. You just have to create a lobby, make it friends only, and set it to online teamplay and ranked. We did this for awhile, sort of playing, but also letting each other score to ensure that everyone got good grades. A couple games of this and I finally had my legend card.

We'll probably keep this up over the next few nights to get as many people over the hump as we possibly can. Sean even had the idea of just joining drop-in games and quitting right away for those who need to boost their games played to 150. It'll kill your overall grade, but it only averages your last 20 or so games anyway. So, if you just did drop-in/quits until you hit 130, then played 20 of these private games, you should get your legend card pretty easily. It's just too bad we didn't figure this out sooner as I'm sure many teams did this a long time ago. With this method, every CAG should have their legend card. :)

I tried doing the drop in and quit thing. It doesn't record your game as played until it finishes and sometimes it does not record the game. It drops your skater grade really fast so it must just count the last 20 for your grade. I got around 7 drop out games and it dropped my skater grade from a B+ to a C.

Yeah, I've noticed that it doesn't record the game until it finishes too. It SHOULD count the stats, but I guess there are other factors to consider with the server potentially dying mid-game, or everybody from one team quitting and the results just not being counted (which has happened to us in club games).

The other thing I wonder is if you quit out of one game and then immediately jump into another...can it even count both of those games because that's like playing in two games at the same time. I guess those are all things to consider when trying to figure out the quickest way to get to 150 games played. I do know for sure your skater grade is only pulled from your last 20 games though.

I think it depends on if the game ends by people quitting whether the game counts. I did quit and join new games and it worked for counting new games played.

First off, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade is on sale for 200 MS points, or $2.50, this week. I had been meaning to get that at some point, but for $2.50, how can I pass it up now?

As for NHL 11, good to hear about the private match deal. I doubt I'll do the quitting drop-in games thing, but I do want to play more drop-ins. I'm going to refrain from making any specific declarations so as to not let myself or anyone else down.

I've been wanting to play more, but you guys already know my deal- I'm usually busy on weekends, and I'm not often on XBL very late at night. I should be able to make most Tuesdays, but Fridays are difficult between attending real-life games as well as Christmas Eve/New Year's Eve being on Friday nights this year. I'm on the 360 pretty much every day, though...

One last thing, regarding the giveaways/takeaways: Gary's better than I am with that, but his stats this month help support my opinion that defensemen have it a thousand times harder than forwards when it comes to that category. I'm also thinking poke checks count toward the passing stats, since I regularly poke the puck away from opposing players, only for their teammate to pick it up.

Will be joining you guys in a few weeks. Good to see most of the same core still plays together.

I wish I would've got this game earlier, maybe then I would play my 360. Its been sitting there untouched for a while, hell my gold subscription probably ran out. Guess I'll check on that later since I have time to do it today.

I agree that defensemen have a tougher time because they've usually got people swarming on them as soon as they touch the puck. But this is why you have to be more deliberate with your decisions. Know when you can hold onto the puck and when you need to just unload it. Part of it is just recognizing how the other team plays or how we're lined up on a faceoff. The way some teams rush before the ref even drops the puck, you basically have to one-time it or pass it as soon as it gets to you.

In the defensive zone, you just have to find that sweet spot with drawing them to you, but getting rid of the puck before they take it from you. Alan manages to keep his give/take at a 1.5/1, and just last month, Gary's was a 2.52/1. So, improving on a 4.75/1 isn't too much to ask. But chances are, you're going to have a hard time improving those numbers without putting more time into the game. That's the reality of it.

Also, I can say with 100% certainty that poke checks don't count toward the passing stat. The game doesn't count you as having possession when you poke the puck away. If it did, the times when you poke it away and a teammate recovers it and scores, you'd get an assist. And we just saw last week that that isn't the case. If anything, it should count as a takeaway.

So, who's going to be on tonight? I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it with everything going on, but I got a lot accomplished today so I'm ready to relax. If anybody can get on for 8 PM EST, maybe we can do some boosting and get people on their way to their next card. I know Brandon was pretty close when we finished on Friday. It would be awesome to get a few more people their Legend cards tonight.

I can totally get on tonight, but my headset's still been acting weird. I wanted to play with you anyway, Nate (giggity) but I would definitely like to boost.

Looks like nobody's times really matched up tonight. I could probably still play for a couple hours, but not much more than that. It looks like Matt has come and gone. I'm guessing Alan is working late. And I haven't heard anything from Sean, Destro, etc. Up to you guys...if you want to play a few games, I'll hop back on.
I'll play a few games, but i know two people would just be bad, unless we boost it.
Well, DarkTower is on, but playing Black Ops. I'll see if we can get him to switch over.
If not, It's all good. We can play sometime this week when every bodies time matches up
All right, I guess he's going to switch over when he finishes the session he's in. So, if you want to hop on, Gary, we can get a few games in.

I won't be able to play until next Friday, if I even can then. On top of finals, my father is having surgery and I'm going to have to help take care of him.

:(

Man... any time I'm able to get on, either things get delayed, or we don't play at all. Not that that's anyone's fault, but that contributes to my lack of games played. I was excited to play, but then things got pushed back from 5 till 7. I left my Xbox on and watched an episode of Fringe on the DVR, and when that ended not long after , I switched back to the Xbox. Nate had been offline for about 8 minutes, and Gary a few minutes longer.

I played Super Meat Boy and waited to see if anyone got on, but Brandon was the only one. I saw that he did get on NHL for a second, but switched to Black Ops. After no one else signed on, I got off close to 8:00. I can't do many late nights when I wake up so early. It's like the opposite of last season.
Best hockey night in a long time! Laughed so hard my eyes watered and my sides hurt. You going to play any more until the move Nate?
Depending on how much stuff I get done this evening, I might be able to play late tonight. Probably 10 PM EST at the earliest.

Probably same here. Depends when the wife goes to sleep.

I'm working from home so I might be able to sneak in a game around 10 or so.
