I was confused since I had never played a hockey game back then, but I knew the team names. So what you mean is that you created a team called the Vikings or changed the Jets' name to the Vikings?
Yeah, to be more specific, when you create a team in the game, you have to choose your team name, city name, and origin all from a list. You can't type in your own entry anymore. I went with the Swift Current Undertakers for my old man team.

This all started when Gary informed us that he had Dominik Hasek on his HUT team. I couldn't believe that Hasek was in the game (especially since I had already looked for him on the Czech team since he's my favorite player of all time). But lo and behold his 45 year old ass was on the Pardubice team (and actually, he's STILL playing now...but for Spartak Moscow of the KHL). Then we started rounding up all the old timers and discovered we could create one hell of a team, haha.

Oh, so this is HUT you're talking about. I apparently failed to comprehend something along the way.

I just came back in here to mention that they showed that CZW clip Alan posted on Around the Horn, which I'm watching on my DVR.

So, 8 Eastern tonight, pudding pals?

Not hut, just create a team. I added my team into season mode.

I'll be on around 8.

Stat, I found another defenseman for you. Jiri Slegr is on one of the European teams. Can't rememeber which one, but I'll look it up for tonight. Also, Brandon, I think you were adding some guys who aren't quite old enough for NHL 94. From most of the guys I looked at, they had to play in 93-94 to be in the game. I haven't confirmed everybody on the NHL 94 roster, but that seems to be the general trend.

Oh, and how are you missing Mark Recchi? His old ass has to make the team, haha. He's 42 (and on the Bruins).

And yeah, I can make 8 PM EST tonight.

EDIT - All right, I'm getting way too technical about this, lol, but for accuracy purposes, here's a great site to reference.

http://nhl94.com/

Demitra, Gonchar, Rivet, and Niedermayer (even though he played 65 games in 93-94) did not appear in the game.

Hey all, I was waiting in the lobby to play from about 11:20-midnight and the game still wasn't over and I haven't been feeling well so I had to just cash out for the night, sorry. Hope the games went well.

It was a good night playing the private matches. The last game though...we will never speak of again...I've already forgot about it.

Yeah, sorry. We played private lobby games most of the night last night since we had like 7-8 guys on. I saw your gamertag on earlier in the night, but it said you were playing Plants vs Zombies, so I figured it was your wife.

The one club game we did play we botched. We took a 3-2 lead with :13 left in the game, allowed them to tie it up, then lost 5 minutes into OT. It's getting redundant at this point, but we have to do better at holding leads. Our passing was mostly terrible and we seemed to have a hard time getting the puck out of our zone.

As a forward, when I see that one of our d-men has the puck cleanly and is in control, I start to rush up the ice for the attack. If one of you turns the puck over, all you've got is each other to prevent them from scoring. I'm not a hockey guru or anything, but I'd think when one defenseman has the puck, the other needs to be a decent amount behind him and near the middle of the ice. That way you can at least try to defend if a turnover happens.

Just like when forwards force the same pass into the slot over and over again, the defensemen can't just force it up the boards if they've got two guys covering it. And even if it WAS working, if we do it over and over, they'll probably catch on. We've got to recognize if the play is there, and if it's not, try something else. This may seem like common sense, but since it's something we struggle with, I'm just going to post it. Whenever I touch the puck, I usually go through a quick checklist to decide what to do with it. Most of the time, I can answer these questions before the puck even gets to me just by paying attention to where players are moving.

In the Defensive Zone
1. Do I have pressure on me?
----Yes: Get rid of the puck immediately by any means necessary (pass, wristshot, opposite corner flip dump, etc). If you're not sure you can get it to a teammate, just get it out of the zone. Anything is better than a turnover in our own end. Don't forget about going around the boards behind the net.
----No: Continue to question 2.
2. Is someone open up the ice? (open meaning no defender on them and no defender between you)
----Yes: Pass them the puck
----No: Skate the puck up the ice and revert to question 1.

In the Offensive Zone
1. Is there an open net in front of me?
----Yes: Shoot!
----No: Continue to question 2.
2. Do I have pressure on me?
----Yes: Get rid of the puck immediately by any means necessary (pass, wristshot, skate away, etc). Anything is better than a turnover at the blue line.
----No: Continue to question 3.
3. Is someone open for a good shot?
----Yes: Pass them the puck
----No: Continue to question 4.
4. Do I have an open shot?
----Yes: Take it!
----No: Take a shot. A bad shot is better than no shot at all.

February Playoffs

As for the thing with Sean and the new playoff line, I don't know what pissed you off, Sean, but it seemed like you were in a bad mood from the second you joined the party. The only reason Brandon suggested that you play center was because I don't think Matt or Shady have even learned how to take faceoffs this year.

Destro could probably play center though. Or I could even play if one of you guys wanted to jump back to help Matt on defense. But if one of you wants to play center, then Alan could play and take the other defenseman spot. We were just trying to figure out what would work so you guys could get used to playing together. Simple as that. Also, I know Shady has been practicing goalie a lot, but I don't know if he wants to do that in the playoffs. That's up to him.
Also, I know Shady has been practicing goalie a lot, but I don't know if he wants to do that in the playoffs. That's up to him.
As it goes for me goalie seems to be hit or miss. I don't know if it is because I'm only at a rookie card or if I was just tired last night. If you guys have any advice or notice I'm screwing something up, let me know. I'm hoping to become better and help win games opposed to the AI goalies. But if I'm not playing well, I'll probably move up to forward, which I'm also seem to be underwhelming at. I'm more of a pinata then anything it seems. At least I'm only three games away from that pro card so I will have more points to play with. Ultimately whatever the team feels is best I'll go with. I'll show up.

I can play center if you want me to. If that's going to be the plan for the month I would like to redistribute my points so I can win faceoffs etc. just let me know.

If it's plants v zombies, it's my wife on lol

and it was no big deal, but the 3rd period around 1145 seemed to last for over 25 mins, I didn't feel good and felt I would play poorly anyway, I didn't wanna play just one game and suck all over the place.

I definitely didn't play as well as I did on Tuesday, and I made the same mistake with the dump/delay of game early on. Fortunately, it didn't cost us since you guys killed the penalty. But I think the way the private games went made it hard to transition to club games. The main problem, as I told Shady and Gary, was probably the fact that it was really late and we were all tired. I found it very difficult to focus at the end. That last goal the other team scored shouldn't have gone in, though. The faceoff went to me, and I was holding down the trigger to pass, but the opposing winger knocked it away anyway and then shot the game winner from beyond the faceoff circle, so Gary had no opportunity to get over, and I'm sure Shady wasn't expecting that shot, either.

As I also said last night regarding Sean (I was going to PM him, but it was brought up in here) I didn't know what his deal was about denying my friend request, which I sent to make it easier for us to play club games, and then he sent me one afterward. I accepted his friend request, and then after he left the party, he removed me. I had no issue with him and not only did I not say anything bad about him, I defended him while he was in the party. So obviously, he has some issues, and that's saying something coming from me, LOL.

tl; dr: BOOBS TIRED PUDDING TAPDANCE

I have no problem playing center. I was having mic problems, which was making me angry and frustrated. I couldn't even talk the last part of the night.

Matt, you spammed me with friend requests, which I denied. You made a couple comments in the chat about it so I thought it better to placate you and sent you the friend request to end the matter. Matt, I am not your friend (from the ragtag and other things awhile ago), you are someone who plays the same game as me, who I try to be cordial with.

I'll put this in spoiler tags so none of the rest of you have to see what will probably be a long post that mostly contains stuff that none of you but Sean care about whatsoever.

The issue that most everyone seems to agree on (as I understood it anyway; I can't speak for anyone else specifically) is that you always seem to be angry and frustrated. When I get like that, I just stop playing or don't get on in the first place, because I don't want to ruin things for everyone else.

I sent you a friend request after noticing that you removed me from your list, which also seems to be a recurring thing and not just something with me. You probably did that a while ago, but I had no reason to check. I wanted to re-add you for purposes of practicing for and competing in club games. When you denied the request, I decided to keep sending them to see if you'd say something. Basically, somewhat like Magicking was in the past (not trying to rehash that, Magic; just using a point of reference) your demeanor and general attitude was such that some lighthearted fun was poked in your general direction. And as a wise man (or 3) so astutely pointed out after you left, you seem to be happy to talk shit, but you bitch and pout when someone gives it back to you.

Since you brought up the "Ragtag" thing- from 3 years ago, mind you- you weren't even involved in the conflict until you decided to insert yourself. I had a problem with one individual because he was dishonest with me and attempted to justify his actions while making statements about me which I did not agree with. A short while after, a second individual who happened to be the girlfriend of person #1 (a relationship the premise of which and people involved you openly mocked in chats when they weren't around, of course) decided their opinion of me had changed. Words were exchanged, and people formed judgments based on what they heard from one side. A while later, you re-added me and even stated you didn't give a shit about any of that stuff and were fine with me, but obviously that turned out to be bullshit. Other than the 2 people directly involved, I've spoken to and played games with each and every single person who was around to witness that debacle and gotten along fine with them. Khondor was the lone exception, but he just ignored me which is perfectly fine. Everyone else seemed to move on just fine, probably because they had little to no reason to care about anything involving me.

I know that I have had personal issues in the past. I have discussed them at length with most of the regulars on this team. I've been more open and honest than anyone probably ever should be on the internet, and it's come back to bite me at times, but I am who I am. I dealt with my problems in the wrong way before and I drank a lot, partly because I didn't know what was wrong with me or what to do about it. While I regret certain things, I am not ashamed of who I was or who I am, nor do I attempt to hide it. I changed my course and I've apparently adjusted and coped much better than you have, even though I'm not quite where I'd like to be.

Before your name was mentioned in the thread, I was going to PM you saying I hoped things were okay with you and that I was glad to be playing with you. I certainly didn't realize how deep this went within you. The fact that you still hold onto a grudge and haven't gotten over a situation from 3 years ago that didn't even really involve you speaks for itself. There is no shame in admitting you have a problem or trying to get help for it. If you're anything like me, it's not your fault so much as it's just the way you were made. I really do pity you and hope you can make a positive change, because you're a fun guy to talk to and play games with when you're not being a total asshole. Good luck to you.

why didn't i know this league existed until now. Sign me the hell up: #11 | Ltor | Ltor | L. Licker | LW/C

I'll be happy to add your info to the OP after you play a game with the team. Nothing personal, we've just had several people who seemed excited about joining who we then never hear from again. If you want to have an easier time getting in on games, add me to your XBL friends list.

For the rest of the team, Stat, Gary, and I played 3 games last night. All 3 went to OT...and we won all of them. It felt good winning those close games again. Gotta say, Gary did great getting the puck out of our end and there were far fewer devastating turnovers.

Even some of the times when you just wristed the puck out of the zone to avoid a poke check often worked well...especially against teams who puck chase. When they've got 2-3 guys charging you, chances are one of our guys can get to a puck in open ice quicker than they can, so it works just as well as a pass. Solid play and it put us back into Elite.

Nice to hear guys. I was gonna jump on last night but ended up going to bed early.

Also I'm MIA from the OP. Whenever you get a chance Nate. No biggie.

Panther1484 - ShadyMarino - LW/G - #41

Gary is usually awesome about clearing the puck as well as keeping it in the offensive zone when the opposition tries to clear. He's definitely a lot better than I am at making the quick decisions when faced with heavy pressure in our zone. Great work, guys!

Ltor, I hope you do play with us and have a good time. With a last name of "Licker" for your player, I think you'll fit right in. :p

Fingers crossed the first name is pudding.

haha, i'm exited to jump in with you guys only problem is my guy is an amateur. I tried to do some drop in's last night but after one game i kept getting a spinning loading screen every time i tried. I'll shoot you a friend request n8 and i'll get going on my rookie card after the superbowl.

I'm about to hop on now if anyone wants to get some games in. I've been playing a lot of HUT which I think is helping me really learn what you can get away with against the AI in terms of dekes and working within small spaces. As I mentioned last night, I've also really gotten the hang of Alan's "homing check". It really makes lining up your hits a lot easier.

That was fun. Sorry, Ltor. I'm not sure what happened, but my Xbox froze when I tried to add you as a friend, then my internet went out altogether. I appears to be working fine now.

Yeah, pretty fun night last night. Great topics of conversation as well, haha. And here's a basic summary of Ltor's initiation onto the team.
562A0001_4_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_Rfw.jpg

He played well for only having his Amateur card. I can tell he's got some skills and scored the game winning goal in his first game. Just try to be a little more discliplined with your defense. It's different playing with 4-5 other human guys than playing with the AI. If you're playing a wing, stay out on the point and trust that the defensemen and center will take care of the puck down low. That way when the other team tries to kick it back out, you'll be ready to pounce on it. It'll also help you get out on the break quicker. Other than that, pretty good night.

Check out the latest editions to the CAG Hockey card set! I've got the picture for Sean's card, but I still need his skater's height and weight before I can make it. Also, if Ltor keeps playing with the team, he'll have one when February stats are compiled.

Hoping for a good turnout tonight for Hockey Night. Any specific times people are anticipating being on? I could do 8 PM EST if others are on.

Card looks great Nate. My stats...not so much. Feb should look a lot better at least.

I'll be on around 8 if anyone else is. Half day of work tomorrow = more nhl for me. I like that kind of math.

I can do 10 Eastern tonight for sure, and I will get on earlier if I can. In case I forget to mention it, though, I will not be able to play Friday night unless you guys are still on later in the evening when I get home.

Man, I didn't even see the card earlier. Thanks, Nate. With us changing our names so often (well, some of us) our cards will always be out of date... or collector's items. ;)

Do you guys realistically need any more players, or are you set for now reliably getting 6/game? I'd be interested, probably could do one night a week at least, two nights some others.

But if you've got a reliable slate of players already I don't want to take anything away from that.

Well, last night we had 8 guys on. When we get more than 6, we just play ranked lobby games against each other. If we have more than 8, we just have to split up the party by team instead of all of us being in one party. But that's no big deal. There's always room for another person on the team, and no one's spot on the playoff roster is guaranteed. It's all about what you put into it. If you'd like to play, by all means, join us.

Also, sorry I ducked out early last night, guys. I think I'm catching the flu that my wife just had. I started feeling like crap last night and woke up with a temp this morning. SUCKS!!!

I hope you get better very soon, Nate. Have some pudding! Everyone's been sick lately, it seems. I don't usually get sick (as far as the traditional cold/flu stuff, anyhow) but I got it bad in January and it seems like somewhat milder versions keep having a go at my immune system. And I wanted to join those of you who were playing earlier, but my Xbox is fucking up.

I had a little cold type thing took me 5 days to get past...

I hope to play tonight but need to meet a friend out for a bit tentatively. So we'll see what happens.

Thanks, Matt. I should be good for tonight. After this year, I think I'm jumping on the flu shot bandwagon. My wife was told that when she started her teaching career she would be sick constantly, which would mean I would be sick constantly, because in short...kids are fucking disgusting. But it's been like a once a month thing, and every bug is different.

Back in late December we had some horrible 24 hour flu thing that felt like a week's worth of flu packed into one day. Now, it's some drawn out crap that zaps your energy and kills your throat. I haven't had a fever for a couple days now, so hopefully I'm coming out of it. It's really terrifying how many germs the youth of America carry though. They could probably take over the planet if they only knew how. Damn dirty apes!!!

I think mine might come from attending hockey games every other weekend. There are lots of kids there, as well as parents and grandparents who have probably been around kids even if they didn't bring them to the games.

Like I said before, I'm going to another game tonight- none next Friday though- and planned to try to play after, but I'm not sure if my Xbox will allow me to play at all.

As for your fever:

I ended up at home too, but even if I can get my disc drive open, I wouldn't want to risk playing anything other than arcade games or Netflix after the system seemingly fucked up my copy of Halo: Reach. Just saying that in case I do get on for one of those things.

Not a bad night. Mostly private games. Then of course off to DJ hero 2 for half hour while Nate and I shoot the shit lol. Maybe we can get some games in later on.

I think my sickness is steaming from going to skate every Sunday with the bare minimal. I need to put on some more clothes when I skate. Stupid thin under armour.
