Wow, these black Friday ads have been so abysmal.
To me, they've been bad for several years now. Black Friday doesn't really even seem like a big deal anymore. There's basically just "good sales" around that time. Some of the best deals might be the week before...or the week after. But the day itself is kind of a letdown now.

DON'T GO JOHN CENA!!! lol

Also, I saw this article just now. Rockstar basically had a modders home SWAT'ed (ok, not as extreme...but same principle, haha).

Actually, I want to change my answer. SOME of those Best Buy game deals are pretty solid...IF you have GCU. So, that's a tough judgment. There's really no reason to not have GCU with its current pricing plan.

But at the same time, it's not exactly conducive to others buying gifts. These are good "buy shit for youraelf" sales, lol. But that probably is most of what Black Friday is anyway, haha.

Also, I can't believe ever since that crazy discount on the first Horizon game 3 black fridays ago, there have been practically no Forza sales (well, Forza 6 is on there for $27.99...but Horizon 2 is really due for a big sale). Where is my Horizon 2 for under $20 deal? Project CARS wouldn't be a terrible group game to screw around in...but it's not as open world as Horizon.

I think p art of the problem is a lot of retailers are having their "good" sales before black friday, to separate themselves from other retailers- just like how game companies shift their releases away from other big releases.

Yeah, definitely. That's like what I was telling people last year. When all the big sales span from 11/1 to 1/7...shouldn't we just call it "holiday shopping"? Black Friday is more of an idea than an event now.

Project Cars is just horrid. Played it for 2 minutes and automatically said, "nope!".
Really? Must just be on console then. Because on PC it's pretty great. Weather is outstanding, cars are very highly detailed, and the driving settings have a great range (can be arcadey or sim). And the Rift support is very well done. There's also a great variety of tracks. I do wish they'd add more cars though.

In other news, the Rocket League mutators update is now out. CAR HOCKEY TIME!!! (can we just refer to it as "cockey"?)

Yeah, I think that's what the Nashville one was going for...just a little less "make your eyes bleed", lol. They do have one like that too though.

They're so amazingly awful, I'd just want to give anyone wearing one a hug and tell them how brave they are, haha.

Ah, that makes sense about PCARS. Kinda sucks when stuff like that happens. This gen of consoles was supposed to be more like PCs than ever. But it seems like that isn't helping at all.

I played a game where the ball was a cube and it was insane.

Haha, that sounds awesome. It's kind of funny how the game is almost trying to really become an exercise in physics and showing how different things can change the gameplay. It just seems like there are so many possibilities.

In NHL related news, I've finally fully immersed myself in HUT. It's amusing seeing players that were common "up and coming" guys last year who are crazy expensive and mostly untouchable this year. Goodbye Tarasenko, Turris, Giordano, etc.

I also think it's kind of weird how prices ramp up so quickly after 85-86. I was trying to gauge which centers are "worth it", and was looking at guys like Derek Stepan...who has a pretty solid skill set and is an 86 OVR. But beyond him...netting an 87+ guy or just somebody who doesn't have maybe +1 in one or two more attributes is like a difference of 30,000 or more coins. It's like there's mostly nobody between 10,000 and 40,000 coins.

So, then I start questioning if it's even worth it to save up for those 35k-40k guys for the small attribute bump. But I guess you could argue the same thing with Stepan vs a guy like Craig Smith (85 OVR)...who can be had for around 1,000. It's tough figuring out where that line of diminishing returns really is.

I've given up on HUT and MUT. MUT is infuriating. in Madden 12, it was actually possible to get these collections done if you put in the work. Now? You need a insane badge, at least two elite players and all this other stuff to finish and get one 90 overall player. No thanks.

Yeah, I looked at MUT for about a week when Madden came out and haven't been back since. It just feels like a game mode where unless you're obsessed with it and that's the only mode you play and Madden is the only game you play, you can't keep up. The challenges, the collections, etc. It's just too damn much.

With HUT, the collections still suck. They always have. The rewards for completing them still suck. 10 gold packs...wooo. Sure, you might get lucky and get a rare card worth a lot. But more likely, you'll get a bunch of players that you could have bought for 2,000 coins or less. I still wish they'd just give you a legend player for that team for completing the collection. That would make it so much more rewarding and would be a badge of honor.

I guess with HUT, if you really love the "gambling" aspect of it of just opening packs, knowing that they'll be shit most of the time, but there's a chance you could get something awesome, then that could be appealing. But for me, HUT is just trying to build a good team and competing in online seasons. Sadly, that's the closest thing to a league the game has.

I miss HUT 12 when you could get a player, train them and have them for like 130 games. It was rewarding to put the work into training them and getting a superstar.

One thing you have to remeber too is that each player still has individual stats that aren't shown on the card-

For example, centers; they all have different faceoff stats ( https://www.reddit.com/r/NHLHUT/comments/3m5cxe/rough_list_of_faceoff_ratings_in_nhl_16/). Speed- Doesn't differentiate between top speed/accel/agility. So some are better than others

That's what makes some 86-87 cost a lot more than 85, because usually theres tsomething unique about their attributes thats better than others.

Yeah, that's a good point. That list is interesting, but it doesn't really seem reflective of the players people use anyway. I mean, the guys on that list that I do see are just superstar players who are good at everything (Getzlaf, Giroux, etc). But I don't see many people using Paul Gaustad just because he's good at faceoffs...probably because people just call the puck out most of the time anyway, haha.

Even for me, using a guy like Stepan as my top center, it's always hard to know if I'm losing a faceoff because his faceoff attribute is low, my opponent's faceoff skill is superior, or the connection just sucks. That feels like too many variables for me to pay a premium for an attribute I can't always control. I'm only in division 8 right now though, so if I start losing games because of faceoffs, my attitude could change.

I have found some merit in boosting my goalies though. Even without the duration cards, the goalie boosts are so cheap, and most good goalies can only use 1-2, I'll boost the guy's lowest attribute(s) and it usually only costs 100-200 coins (Dubnyk goes up to a 90 OVR with 2 +7's). I haven't really paid attention to the coin difference you get between winning and losing a game, so it's possible I'm not even accomplishing anything...but it feels like it gives me an extra edge for one game, and winning is more fun. :)

If anybody wants to play NHL or anything tonight, I am available and on right now.

EDIT - Shit, after I update to NXOE, haha. My bad...hopefully this doesn't blow up my Xbox.

Just got on to NHL, and got a message for another gameplay update. Fantastic :/ EA forums are down, so no way of finding notes from them.

Well guys, Imy hooked on Fallout 4 and Battlefront has 7 hours left on the trial...BUT I will put it on hold just to play with yall. See Brandon, sacrifice!!

Finally was able to pull up the tuner notes:

NOV 13 - TUNER

Coaching Feedback:
- Teamplay grades are higher for players who avoid penalties and long shifts
- Offense and Defense expectations are no longer elevated in the playoffs
- Offense expectations are lowered slightly for BAP NHL players , Play Now, and EASHL
- Overall letter grades will be higher due to the above expectation modifications
- Lower penalties for losing a fight
- Slightly lower defensive grade accumulation

EASHL/Online Team Play:
- Lowered the threshold to which a player is able to receive a puck cleanly to encourage more passing.

Hardcore Gamestyle Tuning:
- Lowered the effect protecting the puck has in resistance to being hit (either with protect puck or holding the puck out away from your opponent)
- Tuning for pokecheck changes that were added in the Nov 6 content update.
- Increased effect on speed when spamming pokecheck
- An increase in the chance of a trip when spamming pokecheck into the skates of a puck carrier from behind.
Should be interesting with the passinf fix.

As for that first fix in Hardcore concerning puck protect... For fuck's sake... Put that shit into every game mode.

Glad to hear it. Your Battlefront trial won't expire though. You could play it 3 months from now and it would still work (though I know you'll be getting the game anyway...just informing anyone who maybe didn't know that, haha).

How dare you... I would never fail to capitalize the team name!
Fair point.

Is there any way I can come out of my 2 or 3 year retirement and rejoin the team? I'm playing the ten hour trial and I am loving this game. I am definitely getting this game for black friday

So...the last 3 people I've played in HUT have been position locking. I swear I didn't see it at all in my first 20 games. I didn't think it was as effective this year, but holy crap. The first guy I played was getting lightning fast tape to tape passes between the AI and then crazy ridiculous forechecking.

I've been trying to not fall back to that again this year. But if this is what's going on...I might have to rethink that.
