Ooooook...I just had the weirdest game ever. After finally finding somebody who didn't position lock, the guy got a checking from behind + game misconduct with Corey Perry with about 5 minutes left in the first period. Perry was sent to the locker room, but the power play banner never came up.

And then...the guy played the rest of the game shorthanded. The announcers continually talked about me being on a power play. Naturally, his goalie (Dubnyk) played out of his mind, and the guy was winning 3-2 going into the 3rd even though I was outshooting him 28-9. Finally, in the 3rd, Dubnyk's luck ran out and I scored three times to win 5-3. But yeah...he had 4 players on the ice for almost the entire game.

EA Sports...

Ha ha ha. That's awesome. Whenot he iced it, was it an icing or waved off?

Also, got the gaming comp back!! Now to get Rocket League.
Nope, he could clear the puck the entire game. The game treated it like a never ending power play. I took a screen shot of the stats screen at the end (need to upload it though) which showed me being 5/5 on the power play in 43:10 of time, lol.

I was kind of razzing him throughout the game (though not enough to get me banned again, haha). Saying stuff like "S-S-Super Dubnyk!" and "28-9". Of course, at the end...when I had outshot him 51-17, he told me my "shot selection was horrible". You know...cycling the puck, going behind the net, finding the open man...one timers...slap shots...deflections. I hit the post four times. But since I wasn't skating into the zone looking for the shortside wrister, my "shot selection was horrible", lol. Moron.

Also, that's awesome about your gaming PC. Keep it this time! lol. If you haven't bought Rocket League yet, I think Brandon might have an extra copy from his Steam controller pre-order (you said that, right Brandon?) You guys can probably work something out...you know...

This is so true and a big reason why I hate 90% of the HUT players. They try to say you don't know hockey because you have tons of shots and don't score more than 4 goals. Or you let the AI play D and you camp out to block those cross crease and shortside wristers. I beat a guy 6-1 the other day and he sent me a message complaining I had 3 one-timers from behind the net or cross crease because he chased with the Dmen.

On the subject of Ultimate Team modes, I picked up MLB 15 for the PS4 and it's UT mode (Called Diamond Dynasty) is much more user friendly. Like HUT, it has a daily check in. Unlike HUT it's much more useful. It gives you cards or items you can use in the Be a Player mode. I've gotten Pujols and Pedro Strop from these rewards, two players over 80.

Packs, which cost 1000, give some useful players. I pulled a Gerrit Cole (89 ovr SP) from one of mine the other day. After I think nine check ins you get a pack. While there is less to do (no seasons) there are H2H games and games where you play another person's team. Overall, much more user friendly.

Yeah...uniform and logo design in Diamond Dynasty was like my favorite thing ever, haha. But for anyone who doesn't have a PS4 though, DO NOT get the game on PS3. Sony San Diego has always been pretty horrible with their online implementation...but it reached a new low with MLB 14 and MLB 15.

Any time you're connected to the Sony servers...even if you're playing offline, the game will stutter and hiccup during gameplay. Yes...in a baseball game where timing is everything, the game will just freeze randomly every 15-20 seconds making it impossible to make contact. When it does this, the blu-ray drive also gets super noisy like it's trying to read from the disc.

When I first ran into this, naturally, I thought the disc had some odd defect (even though it was unmarked). So, I exchanged it. Still had the same problem. Then, I started to worry that maybe my BR drive was dying. So, I tried on a different PS3...still the same problem. Then I found this post about it:

http://www.operationsports.com/forums/mlb-show-last-gen/845917-show-15-ps3-stuttering.html

I mean, I get the "Playstation 3 is old! Go next gen!" argument...but this is pretty incredibly terrible. It's a first party game...and it doesn't even run properly on their own system. And of course it was never patched. Yes, the system is old...but they still put this in stores and sold it to people. These are the types of stories that sour me on consoles. Developers just have a license to rip you off and there's nothing you can do about it.

Literally the first thing I do when I get paired up in HUT matchmaking is mute the other player, even if their mic shows as disconnected. I've considered even turning off off non-friends messages too, because people are dumb, but sometimes I do get funny ones... Funny because they are so dumb.

If you're looking for an upgrade, I have an MSI Geforce 780 (not the TI though, just regular 780) if you're interested.

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-N780-TF-3GD5-OC/dp/B00DIH8OOQ

(obviously not at that price, GG low supply inflation)
Ah, well...I kind of want to get myself into position for when the consumer Rift comes out. This was part of my overarching plan when I got my 650ti a few years ago anyway. I'll probably sell that card (still have the box and everything) to subsidize the cost a little. Getting a 970 for around $250 seems pretty decent to me.

And waiting for bigger sales always seems like a let down for some reason. Both the rebate and the AMEX offer are good for a few more weeks though. So, I could hold out to see if NewEgg does lower the price any more. It could sell out and/or go back up in price though...and I'd be kicking myself.

EDIT - A deal popped up on Jet.com tonight that allowed me to snag this one for $248 out the door with no rebates, no statement credits, etc. Just straight up $248. I'll take it.

Save money, just because?

I do the same thing now. I go to the register and go, do I REALLY need this PS4 right now? No? Good. Then I just go and take the $300 I was going to use on it and put it in the savings account.

Needless to say, it's a nice savings account because of that lol.

Gotcha. I have an EVGA now too, with the backplate and stuff, I do think that EVGA cards are better than MSI.

Oh, yeah...I get that. But um...Christmas? lol. I basically decided none of the games/movies on sale for BF interest me much (except for maybe $3.99 Taken 2 at Best Buy). So, I'm using my "Christmas allowance" on this. Why do you hate Christmas, Gary? ;)

I had a few very basic EVGA cards in the early 2000s...like when they still used AGP slots, lol. And I didn't love them...but PC gaming was pretty busted back then too. Also, for whatever reason, their box art always put me off, haha. It's a really dumb thing. But MSI has tigers and dragons...and EVGA is like "here's some colors and shapes". I mean, at least put a prize inside like a box of Cracker Jacks or something.

But yeah, the clock speeds are faster on the EVGA...and that ACX 2.0 cooling is supposed to be really good. Not sure what extras it will come with (if any) since I ordered it through Jet (though I'm 99% confident they're getting it from Amazon...since it says fulfilled by "Mega Retail Store" and it's the exact same price). But worst case scenario, I'll just pick up the back plate separately.

Because it means I'm just one more year older.

Do you want the Blu-Ray Taken 2 or just Digital? Cause I'll use the digital code and you can have the blu-ray.

I'm only getting WWE2K16 and a couple Roku Streaming boxes is all.

Haha, I'm trying to embrace getting older. Just practice being crotchety and forgetting where you put things.

Not sure about Taken 2. I do like adding the UV codes ro my Vudu. Sometimes it feels pointless because Netflix. But they take things away so often, I feel like it's hard to count on them.

Gary, I should be around later if you want to play battlefront.

I'd also be up for weekly punishment early, as I'm going to be away next two Fridays.
Im down for NHL as long as we can get a third (doubles=stay the heck away)
No twosomes only threesomes. Nate that time works.

So, I'm only in division 6 in HUT and already the douchiness is out of control. People who position lock as wing because they know their AI center will either straight up win the faceoff or (more likely) he'll tie up and they can swoop in and grab it. And worst case scenario, if it gets knocked back to one of my guys, they can use the moronic faceoff jump to rush in and immediately stick lift since it's practically never a penalty.

Just such incredible horseshit, man. Anything people can use to gain an unfair advantage and they're all over it.

Thats really weird; I'm in Div 2 right now, and I'm yet to run into anyone position locking.
That is weird. I had 2 yesterday and 2 today. I don't know if people are just remembering/realizing that's a thing or what. But the AI tape to tape passing they get and the Ai one timers are insane. The first guy I was able to beat because his goalie was shitty. But the second guy had a stud team (Kopitar, Shattenkirk, Tarasenko, etc...and Bishop as his goalie) and he still position locked. I actually position locked myself that game because running into it for the 4th time in 6 games made me curious what results I'd get.

But all it did was show that he had better players than I have. His guys were faster, stronger, and his AI was just murdering me on faceoffs. It felt like he was just unleashing 89+ OVR legend difficulty AI on me. Their touch passing was so quick. Maybe the pos lock "key settings" are different this year and I didn't have them right...but I definitely wasn't getting the results he got. And I've actually been enjoying playing normally this year anyway.

I actually haven't seen anyone position locking yet either.

Bought teams on the other hand... Yep.

Played a guy earlier who had Roy, Stamkos, Giroux, Sakic, Bure, Benn, Tarasenko, Tyler Johnson, Malkin, Seguin, Datsyuk, Weber, Keith, Subban, Alfredsson, Pietrangelo, and Shattenkirk. Don't remember who the other two forwards were, but you get the idea.

Haha, motion rigs are amazing. I wouldn't really want one for ridiculous crap like that (though the occasional roller coaster would be amusing). But making you feel the gravity and having to lean would be pretty immersive. They're also crazy expensive. I think I saw one DIY for "under $1,000" if you know soldering and wiring yourself. But other than that, they can cost as much as a car, haha.

These on the other hand...could be totally viable as businesses:

Real roller coaster using VR to add insane imagery

VR Warehouses that allow you to freeroam.

So Brandon was awesome and gave me Red Rocket League. Holy shit, game is so much fun. Plugged the Xbox one controller in and it's even better. Now I'm going to search for a cheap one on Black Friday just for the PC. I think I'm going to get the Back To the Future DLC as well.

I'm thinking about getting this on sale on BF.  One question though: Was the horrible lag on EASHL fixed from the beta?  The beta was basically unplayable.

Thanks!

One of us. One of us.

See, we weren't just being completely retarded gushing about Rocket League, lol. There's just something about it that they got exactly right. It wasn't the game that we wanted...but the game that we needed, haha.

And it legitimately does have better physics than NHL..even with the mutators. It's kind of aad.

Good idea on having a separate controller too. Resyncing them back and forth is a pain. Not to mention it'll help them last longer.

It's very hit and miss. The network coding definitely seems sketchy in my opinion. If you're in the US and you play somebody in Canada, it is likely you'll get some sort of lag...be it input lag (which can range from "How come I can't win faceoifs or hit people?" to "I pressed pass 3 seconds ago.") or just atraight up stutter.

And if you're on a team with 4-6 people, it is probable that one of you will have lag. I don't know if the game is just more demanding or if EA still doesn't totally understand the new gen architecture, but getting a clean connection seems way harder than in previous years.

And considering how often you get matched up with Canadians (it is a hockey game, after all), it definitely starts to become something you notice.

I think I'll skip it then. I extensively played the beta as if it were a demo for a game that I was no matter what purchasing. Then it actually turned me off to the game. I was so excited for EASHL to come back, but I find it's amazing that all the problems from 09 are still present.

2K needs to come back just so EA actually has to put an effort.

Yeah, I hate having to plug the controller in back and forth so it recognizes what system it's on.

Yeah, just something about the game is so cool.

Yeah. I mean, it's hockey...and it's the only game around. So, if you love the sport, the game can be tolerable. Basically, the game plays fine if you're only interested in single player or if in multiplayer everybody plays "the right way". But as soon as people start seeking out unrealistic play styles (calling for 60 foot passes down the ice, tricking the AI into not playing defense, stick checking continuously, etc), all the ugly holes in the programming rear their head.

The game is pretty and some things in it are cool, but what EA truly does a horrible job at is rewarding people for doing the right things and punishing people for doing the wrong things. If they just did a better job at this, they could probably leave most of the gameplay as it is.

Goalies should give up more goals when their teammates leave the defensive zone early. penalties still need to be increased (goalie interference is almost non-existent...so people will shoot and then just crash into the goalie hoping he gives up a rebound they can bang in), and as always, defensive players should break up bad passes if they're in the proper position. EA still screws up all of these areas...regardless of what they say they change.

Yeah, I hate having to plug the controller in back and forth so it recognizes what system it's on.

Yeah, it's just fun to play and very rarely does it make you feel like you got screwed over (except that one time when I spawned after being destroyed and the ball bounced right off me and went toward our goal...lol). But we've probably played 100s of games at this point, and that's happened once. Most of the time, you'll hear us say "Oh, God. I fucked up!" rather than "I was right there and the ball went through me!"

It's amazing what good programming can do for a game.

That's a pretty good price on Horizon 2...but since I just bought my 970, I'll probably pass. And RBI Baseball 15...just...God dammit. It makes me mad that that's the best you can get if you want baseball on Xbox One. It doesn't even seem like it's an "it's too expensive to license" issue anymore since there are so many mobile MLB games now. Just nobody wants to invest resources in it. I'd even gladly take an EA baseball game at this point.

The GiantBomb guys made a great point in their quick look at RBI...if you're trying to remake RBI Baseball...why does it neither look nor play like RBI Baseball? lol. It's basically a shittier Ken Griffey Jr's Baseball. It's worse than a game that came out in 1994. How does this happen?

No, the baseball on the Xbox one is super mega baseball, which is worth the twenty bucks. Hopefully that will get a sale soon. Reminds me in some ways of Baseball Stars.

Oh, yeah...I forgot that made it to XB1. I mean, it looks like a neat game. But just not the same as having MLB teams and rosters, ya know. It looks enjoyable in the same way you'd enjoy something like Mario Super Sluggers.

Nah it's much deeper than something like that gameplay wise. Honestly it's one of the best baseball games I've played all time.
