Official NHL 17 Discussion/CAG Team Thread - Ausfahrt Banditos: The Res-Erection

Ok, I can confirm there are no rewards at all for collections. Since I only needed the home jersey for Belarus, I just decided to grab it to see what would happen. Nothing at all. It just goes in your collection. No reward. No achievement. Nothing. Now, there are sets for things like "10 gold logos", "10 silver jerseys", etc. So, I guess that's really the only usefulness of all these non-NHL cards.

But this seems very limiting in terms of rewards. And it definitely feels more complicated like Madden where you have to complete sets to get collectibles...then put those collectibles in a set to upgrade them and get another special card. I hope it doesn't become super tedious like Madden because that's where they lost me.

Also, I don't think there's any added bonus in playing Draft Champions online as opposed to playing it solo. You get a reward card for every game you win. Sooo...logic would dictate that you'd be better off just playing and murdering the CPU rather than taking a chance and losing a game online.

There are sets and there are collections. You want to finish a set for the reward. Collections do the mean jack shit.

Plus side, I pulled a Jeremy Roenick Legend and a Towes out of three packs. Back up to 500k now.

The biggest problem I see is feeling like there's no real direction this year. With the way collections worked before, one would roll into the next, and it was a pretty smooth transition. But the micromanaging aspect of selling cards to buy packs to get cards to sell to buy more packs gets old pretty fast for me.

And with the sets, I'm not totally sure if the reward is good enough to justify the work and what you give up to obtain them. And I'm not sure if I'd want to keep the hero card...or just sell it...which would put me back to square one.

It's really weird feeling that way because I wanted the collections to reward you with legend players from that team...but when I think that I could just flip cards and buy those players outright, it makes completing the set less appealing. I'd almost rather they make the hero cards non-tradeable. At least then, it's a badge of honor that you could only get by completing the set...not by buying coins on Reddit (no offense...it just bothers me that you can get those cards that way).

Oh, man. That Domingo video is great. It's pretty insane how Tim Tebow just won't go away though. I just don't get what's in it for the Mets. They don't need his "publicity".

In HUT news, I think I've somewhat decided how to approach the sets. It appears that Vancouver will be the easiest to do. With the Sedin brothers and Miller shells of their former selves, their prices are very low (I picked up Miller for 650 coins earlier). And neither Sedin is over 10K.

What EA has done though is inflate the damn cost of completing a set with those stupid collectibles. Most teams require 3 carbon collectibles...which have been selling on the AH for around 50k each. And some also require gold collectibles, which go for 4-5k. Vancouver only requires 2 carbon collectibles. So...it's still going to cost about 130k to complete the set...but you'll get the Hero Trevor Linden card, which seems to sell for about 200K.

I'm still not sold on this as a worthwhile thing to spend time on, but I'm going to at least try it out with Vancouver and see if it has any merit at all. I don't know. Maybe I just played too much HUT last year...and having all the players I did, I can't figure out what I'm working toward, who I'm trying to get...or even why I want it, lol.

And that's cool also. I was losing by one with 20 seconds left. Pulled the goalie and scored with Lindros and the whole stadium and camera and boards were shaken. That was pretty cool.

Gold collectibles aren't too difficult to get. You can dump extra coaches or logos or uniforms for a Gold Collectible pack.

Had some decent pulls today in my returning user packs. Snagged Steve Mason, Frederick Anderson, Voracek and Kuznetzov as well as a bunch of 86 overall players.

Should have saved the packs. When I get absolutely jack shit two months from now all of the Movember cards, you guys will be sorry, MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Anybody want to play tonight?

All right, time to get mathematical on these HUT sets. As I said before, the carbon collectibles are going to be the biggest PITA (at least getting started, since they're worth more than any card in those early sets).

Right now, it seems that you can buy one on the AH for about 41K. But as Rob said, you can also go the upgrade route and turn gold collectibles into carbon collectibles. You can turn in your gold coaches, logos, jerseys, or arenas (each separately) to earn a gold collectible. It takes 10 of each item to yield 1 gold collectible though. And it takes 10 gold collectibles to yield 1 carbon collectible. Meaning...you'd need 100 gold coach/logo/jersey/arena to upgrade to 1 carbon collectible.

So, 41,000 / 100 = 410. If you can buy 100 coach/logo/jersey/arena (that you don't need for another set) for less than 410 coins each, you'll come out ahead (with a lot more work though). Not surprisingly, this fact is really going to help these cards retain their value. None of those cards should ever sell for less than 400 (unless carbon collectible prices tank).

Unless you're just loaded with crappy gold coaches/logos/jerseys/arenas, I can't imagine it not being more efficient and economical to just buy the carbon collectible and move on.

I usually sell my duplicates as I open the packs, but now I decided to save my coaches, arenas, jerseys, and teams and stuff for carbon collectible things. But I don't want to accidently give up the ones I don't have a double of. And I got a few player duplicates mixed in somewhere. Got a Malkin off the packs I bought today! Probably my best player so far. After I open these last 5 packs in a bit I'll start completing the easiest team sets.

Here's a pretty good list I found on Reddit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NHLHUT/comments/529lxd/team_hero_set_86_players_and_collectibles/

On a side note EA is trolling me. Two of my best pulls so far have been players from the fuckhawks and Shittsburgh. Seabrook and Kessel. I'm thinking I might try to complete those since the rest are fairly doable for those collections... Although I'm not sure how much Fleury, Crawford, and Panarin are going for.

I really want to get Shanahan though. I've heard he's a monster. LaFontaine is supposed to be pretty good too. I used Giguere in Draft Champions, and he's a wall.

It's funny, I did the same thing as the guy who made the list and missed the 3rd page for Vancouver. Dammit...3 CC and 7 gold for that one. And it's STILL one of the cheaper sets to do. But when you can just buy Linden for 200K, I really don't see what the point is. You almost HAVE to sell the reward otherwise, completing each set puts you in a huge hole (spending 200K+ for each one).

At least the way they did it last year, with not being able to trade the reward pack cards, whatever you pulled was your reward, and you could resell the cards it took to complete the collection. With this system, you either need to have A LOT of coins or sell the Hero card and start over every time.

After all the packs I've opened. I've gotten about 10 left, But I have already gotten 10 CC's. Tempted to just trade them in for coins.

That's the problem...I don't really see any reason not to. Selling the CC's (and other cards) and just buying those Hero cards seems like less of a headache than going through the trouble of completing the set. The only real allure I'm feeling is just the idea of "playing the game the right way" or doing it as a challenge (are there even achievements for completing sets?)

Other than that though, there doesn't seem to be any real benefit to finishing a set. It's going to cost just as much as buying the card outright. So, the game isn't really rewarding you for your effort at all.

Just got cheated out of the four draft champion collectible cards. Won the final game, clicked "claim reward", HUT loaded, and popped the daily coin bonus reward. But when I went to redeem my DC cards, they were nowhere to be found. I even went back to the main menu several times to try to let HUT reload and checked my collection directly, and it says "no items found". fucking wonderful. Played those 4 games for absolutely nothing.

EDIT - Dashed the game and restarted and now the collectible pack is there. I don't understand why it's so slow. This has happened to me when trying to add cards to the Vancouver set too. It would show the card in my collection, but when I'd try to add it to the set, it says "no cards". So freaking annoying.

Pulled a Anton Stralman (86) and Brad Richardson (84) from the DC rewards...not too bad. Stralman goes for about 1,200 coins though. So, in general, it's probably more productive to just play HUT games and use the coins you earn. I did pull that Letang on my first try though...so that still makes it tempting.

Also, Gary, definitely sell those carbon cards. There's only 17 on the entire auction house right now. The last sold price is 48K...and there's a few on there for 45K, but I can't imagine prices won't go up. EA has such a log jam right now. This is when they should be doing special packs. Nobody has anything right now. Jerseys themselves are selling for 5-6K and higher. Some jerseys there's only 3 of, and people are asking like 200K for them (of course, nobody is buying them). But it's just a clusterfuck right now with no supply of anything.

For example, there are 96 Ryan Miller cards (85 OVR)...and his price is 600 coins. But there are only 11 Andrey Pedan cards (79 OVR)...so his prices are around 4K (unless you find a low bid auction and go to battle with somebody). The Auction House is just a mess.

Is there any point into collecting all the east and west all star jerseys and the coaches? Do you get anything for completing those collections? I was thinking of just trading them all in towards the carbon collectible things wether I have a duplicate or not.

Ok, I decided to get to the nitty gritty with these damn sets and break down the actual math. Now, obviously, this could change if the HUT market ever regulates itself. But for the time being, this illustrates how you are actually costing yourself more by doing these sets. It literally makes more economic sense to just sell the cards and buy the player outright.

I don't think there's an easier team to do than Vancouver. I'm open to suggestions, but I was drawn to them by how totally worthless their players are. Sadly, this is offset by the ridiculous prices on jerseys and the inflation caused by the collectibles.

I posted the above on Reddit and learned that you get an additional untradeable Hero Collectible card for completing sets. The assumption is that these cards will go into a set down the road to give you a REALLY good reward. Still seems iffy to me if that justify going through all the work and possibly losing coins to do the sets though. It's really going to depend on if the jersey prices and low level player prices come back down to Earth. Hard to know since you have to turn the cards in though.

I think its still hard to make a final call on it now, solely due to how early into the game's life we are. Movember will naturally cause a surge in card quantity, as will pack specials.

I mean, yeah...that's fair, for sure. It's just odd that some cards have totals around 100 already...while others have less than 10. And it's not the higher rated players with the lower numbers. The distribution just seems off.

Part of it might be how they're making it where everyone 85 our higher is rare now, combined with the fact that only players are rare (I think), is throwing off the balance.

I was about to do Vancouver, had every card. Was thinking I had plenty of extra jerseys and stuff to trade in to do a set. But maybe I got enough common stuff I realized I would trade in to get 1 or 1 and a half carbon. So I started selling all my Vancouver stuff and going for St. Louis since I actually want Hull and MacInnis.

I'm debating going for Blake. I pulled a Carter today, so of the high ones I just need Muzzin. Three CCs isn't too bad.

I need to get a Zetty to do Shanahan since I have all the rest except Nyquist.

I listed a WC collectible earlier which sell for 100k... so we'll see if that sold.

Yeah, some of us had worse luck yesterday. Both me and Alan had unopened packs that we were saving for when there was a special pack (the real idea was saving till Movember cards were out)...and when we got on yesterday, they were gone. I lost 10 gold jumbo packs and Alan lost 8. We learned that apparently, some packs have an expiration date which shows when you click on them and are at the "open now/open later" screen.

We had no idea, and there was no warning. Just hundreds of cards completely wiped away.

So, my connection just went to complete shit last night. Must have been a Comcast thing because cycling modem/router did nothing and it's just randomly better this morning. I really hope Google Fiber gets their stuff approved for the quicker installs. Last I read, it passed the first two votes, but has to pass a third time to be official (why?)

In other news, I opened a support ticket with EA about my missing packs. The guy asked when it happened and what my gamertag was. So, hopefully that was for some actual purpose and not just going through the motions. He said the situation has to go through the specialist team though and they would contact me later. We'll see how this plays out.

Sure, if people are on and there's an open spot. Those are basically the only two requirements. Friday nights we're usually pretty full. But most likely, any other day you see people playing EASHL, there's probably a spot open.

Does anybody know if I bought the super deluxe digital version now and traded in my physical copy if I would get all the extra packs every week for the super deluxe physical version? I'm playing HUT a lot more than I thought I would and didn't even know that super deluxe version was a thing until after I bought the game.

No, they aren't a pre order bonus for the Super Deluxe digital. I bought the same version when EA had the price glitch and it was $60. I forget what it is, whether it's two or one pack for ten weeks straight.
Yeah, that's what I mostly figured out. It's really dumbfounding how EA went on and on about creating these player builds that feel different, and it just seems like the skillset variations are so minute. The biggest difference I've noticed has more to do with size and puck control. When I play as Sniper, if somebody sneezes on me, it seems like I just launch the puck 3 feet behind me. In NHL 16, it was worth it because the douche shot was so strong and there were very few other ways to consistently score. But this year, it's not quite as easy to douche and slap shots actually go in.

So, at least what I'm feeling so far is playing with a bigger player seems more beneficial. When I played as Power Forward, I could hold the puck out to the side (especially against the boards) and absorb or glide though a lot more contact. That's another thing I think we need to remember. You lose the puck less easily if you're gliding than if you're actively skating. So, just charging straight into contact isn't going to end well most of the time.

But yeah, I felt mostly the same playing as a Power Forward as a I did a Sniper...but I could hold onto the puck better. I also seemed to win more faceoffs as the bigger classes. I don't think that's supposed to be a thing (unless they changed it again), so it could just be a coincidence.

The description says 2 jumbo gold packs a week for 25 weeks. And with the standard edition it's just one regular gold pack a week for 10 weeks.

Just had my most satisfying win so far... This was the guys team:

Amonte
Bucyk
Hawerchuk
Keith
Letang
Linden
Macinnis
McDavid
Roebuck
Sakic
Smyth
Super
Tkachuk
TurCo

I was going to send him a message but he sent a gg before I could. Guy was pretty good sport, so I wasn't going to be a dick. Ended up winning 2-0 with the last an empty netter. Everything was really even, both has 17 shots, and wereally within 20 seconds of each other on TOA.

I decided I won't upgrade my standard edition to the Super deluxe edition. It's money better spent buying a pucks pack when the special packs come out. Got 2200 pucks from Amazon and bought 4 WCOH packs this time and got 3 WCOH collectibles. Traded 2 in for Curtis Joseph and sold one. Also pulled Sutter. Now I want to finish the carbon collectibles for the Blues, but not sure if I want to give up Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk, but I might try to get a duplicate of those. Trying to also sell Malkin today while I'm at work for around 200,000 gold coins and might go after Tarasenko before I finish the Blues set.
When I trade in the Blues do I get MacInnis and Hull or just MacInnis?

Just MacInnis (well, and a special Hero collectible card). Hull is a legend card that you either pull in a pack (yeah, good luck) or just buy on the auction house.
