Wonder if they'll even have OTP where you can play with your friends in a reasonable amount of time.

Once/if they get that in there, is that enough for us all to get NHL15?

Also, I've been playing FIFA last night and today. It's crazy how much better that game is than NHL has been. Not doing so great online...0-2... but haven't lost by more than a goal yet. I hope to learn to play better once I sink more time into it.
FIFA is just straight up harder. But yeah, it is a lot better. It's what I hoped NHL 15 was going to bring us this year.

Hey Vulcan did you pick up NHL 15 on the X1?

Just curious on your thoughts on packs in this year's game. It seems like the level of players you pull this year is insane compared to in the past.

Alan, I forgot to mention the other day but with Manchester United in FIFA 15 you have a lot of high rated players available that are on reserves because of injury in real life.  There are several higher rated defenders and a few midfielders that are hurt so they moved them out of the starting lineup in the game but they are way better.

Yeah, got it off craigslist for $30. My pulls have been stupid insane. Bishop, Kessel, Karlson and Getzlaf.
Very nice... I was just curious if you had the same experience with packs. The two craziest since my Returning bonus packs were one of the Ultimate Team Edition packs that had Mike Richards and Patrice Bergeron, and then a Gold Jumbo yesterday that had Fleury, Steen, and Bouwmeester. The Gold Jumbo was a huge surprise since it seems like usually I get maybe 5 players in those and maybe one is 85 or above... The pack yesterday with those three had I think 10 players in i9 ot 10 players in it.

The thing is, any smart business knows they need to throw customers a bone every once in awhile to keep them coming back. If you can enjoy the mode without spending any money, then it's at least a little different.

I tried to give Madden Ultimate Team a chance again this year, but at the end of the day...it's still just acquiring cards (sometimes by spending money) with no real purpose. The collections are still convoluted, multiplayer is obnoxious, and even single player is reasonably formulaic and boring with the AI tilt that goes on.

In a lot of ways, I'd rather just play ranked. It's quick, competitive, and doesn't require a huge time/money investment from me. Maybe I'm alone on this one, but completing collections was the addictive part of Ultimate Team for me. Assembling a team and just playing games seems pointless by comparison, and something you could do by editing the roster offline.

How are the games quicker in HUT? Solo MUT games have 2 minute quarters. Online games, 3 minutes.

I've gotten screwed over by goaltender AI in literally every game of HUT that I have completed.

With 12 minutes of football you have a lot more stoppages due to timeouts, incomplete passes, play selection, etc. compared to hockey which has 15 minutes of play with few stoppages assuming you aren't playing someone who wants to watch every cutscene/replay.

As for the goalie AI, have you played since the gameplay update, they boosted the goalie awareness against the wrister and even on breakaways they do a better job now as well. It also depends on who you have as a goalie. I'm using Lehtonen most the time or a goalie that's boosted to at least 87 and they usually stand up pretty well. This is the first time where I feel like if you play defense you can actually win because your other AI players won't completely screw up. Especially if you just defend against cross crease one-timers and wristers since the majority of people on HUT only know those two ways to score.

I'm not really buying that one version of Ultimate Team is better than another version of Ultimate Team. To me, they're all on the same playing field and have the same purpose. Ultimate Team is like the douchey guy at the bar who won't leave the pretty girl alone. Except in this scenario, we're the pretty girl (yay)..and for some reason, we're the ones buying the drinks.

Sorry, Ultimate Team...but I'm a lesbian.

I haven't played in a couple days. My goalie is very low rated, but I've been playing France and Great Britain's CPU teams, who are rated even lower. I outperform the CPU in every statistical category, yet the CPU always magically pulls something out.

I've only played 6 or so HUT games, but I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that the CPU has never once scored a legitimate even-strength goal against me. Power play, sure. But literally every even strength goal they've tallied has been an accidental bounce or some weak dribbler that my goalie was somehow incapable of stopping.

Ausfahrt Banditos!!!

I just wish we could have used these jerseys.  They are the ones I was telling you about Nate.

Ha, wow....those jerseys are fantastic. Hmm...now seeing that one with the horizontal stripes, was there any jersey style like that in the game? That actually looks pretty good...even with just regular old sleeves. I know there was one for the top of the jersey...but I can't remember how many stripes it had.

In preparation for Steam Night, I looked into the zombie spawning issue in 7 Days to Die again. And yeah...it seems like any save from 9.0 and 9.1 is going to be bugged from here on out. Most everyone just suggests starting over because "it's an alpha". Really annoying considering we had just perfected our base.

It would be a great time for Rob to join us though. I've still got that extra copy of 7 Days...and it can be yours for a cool $10. :)

Also, as a friendly reminder, UFC 178 is tonight...and I have a feeling it's going to be a good one with Zingano, McGregor, and Cerrone on the card (I'm also curious to see how Cruz does). I don't expect the Mighty Mouse fight to be competitive...but who knows, maybe he'll KO Cariaso in crazy fashion or something. So, yeah...I'll be ready for Steam after that ends...probably around 12:30 AM ET.

PC gaming, ladies and gentlemen. Where you can literally do whatever the fuck you want, lol. That's incredible. I want that DK2 update even more now, haha. :)

Sweet, purchased it right after I read your post.

Also, some free stuff has been given out to Payday 2 as their community numbers have grown. I think that everyone who has the game has joined the group though, Heres whats been unlocked/will unlock.

I picked it up too.  Not really sure when I will play it with Horizon 2 and Destiny out and the new Borderlands coming out soon but figured I might as well get it when it's on sale so I have it.

So, I'm drinking my coffee and scrolling through my Facebook news feed this morning, and I see these two stories back to back. Of course I can't not notice the terrible joke here, and I instantly realize that I'm going to hell. So freaking wrong. Screw you, Facebook. Jerk.

The article about the kid is touching really. A great read.

Yeah, I did read it. And I totally agree. It's odd how kids learn behaviors. We've noticed it a lot with racial differences. We live in a pretty diverse area, so when we take Skylar to the mall to play there will be Hispanic kids, Middle-Eastern kids, African-American kids, Asian kids, and Caucasian kids...and they don't even really notice that they look different. They don't care what each others beliefs are. They don't care who's running for president. They just play and laugh together. It's a great lesson for adults.

I gotta say, that Huffington post article kind of pisses me off. Not so much the article itself, but the picture they used.  It's almost as if they are trying to use a picture that makes the kid look worse.  Why did the parents or the post not even bother to maybe wash his face off? I get that it happens, I mean hell I have 14 nieces and nephews... I see it all the time. However, in an article that is trying to build awareness of the condition and more specifically of the child and talk about how he is no different...  was it really necessary to use a picture that makes him out to look like he isn't even properly cared for?  *End Rant*

On a somewhat related sidenote... I saw a video similar to that a few weeks back and posted it on Facebook.  It was one of those where the person sits in front of their webcam and just holds up notecards/piece of paper with writing on it.  This video was pretty tough to watch. It was of a younger mother who's son was born without eyes. It was the first time I had ever seen anything like it, and was kind of interesting.  Overall the video was really cool as the young mother just talked about how tough it was at first and then as time went on people around town became use to seeing her son and really took to him.H

Here's the video if anyone would care to see it:

Quite a moving video MVP.

As to what Nate said though, kids are just curious and they just want to have fun. They don't see propaganda or color or whatever. Their world is just so open its remarkable. I wonder at what point in our lives we got brainwashed by something to turn us into who we are. Maybe it's being told some of our dreams won't come true, or there is no Santa or something. But at a certain point we stop seeing the beauty and start seeing the crappyness

The mother posted the picture to show how happy he was with chocolate smores on his mouth. I believe she says it at the end of the article.

I think that's part of it, Gary. I think being around adults who feel the need to show kids the "real world" starts to chip away at it. Then, I think just getting older, having responsibilities, seeing how people treat each other, etc. makes it hard to not become a cynical asshole. I seriously struggle with that all the time.

In a lot of cases, ignorance is actually bliss. I got really heavy into political discussion for a while...trying to prove my point, trying to "enlighten", etc. and it just made me feel like a miserable prick. Then, I kind of figured out...even if I am right, who the fuck cares? lol. Then, you have people like "Yeah...but so and so is getting away with...rabble rabble, blah blah", and I started to realize "Well, A: I can't stop that from happening...and B: It doesn't have 100% control over whether I have a good day or not." And that made me kind of stop caring.

Because maybe the world is fucking me. But I can still laugh and have a good time, and enjoy my family and friends. I'm not sleeping on a park bench. My life isn't in constant danger. So, who cares? Basically, what Ron Livingston learns in Office Space, lol

Before this thread gets too serious, haha...CVG is doing the voting for the Golden Joystick awards again, and this year, Green Man Gaming is giving out free Steam keys for Xcom: Enemy Unknown. Not a bad prize for 5 minutes of voting.

Also, I will be playing this in a few minutes, lol.

Oh okay... In that case it makes a lot more sense. I didn't get a chance to read the article since I was just heading to bed when I made my post. Not to mention I'm also not a very big fan of Huffington Post and their articles more times than not, so I was a little biased to begin with haha.

On a side note check out the last half of these awesome updates to NHL 15 that went live today...

Oh EA... fuck!

EA UFC also had a big update today. They've added Tim Kennedy and Gunnar Nelson to the game (they also had plans to add Anthony Johnson, but since his dumb ass got suspended, they pulled him from the update). They also unlocked Nick Diaz for middleweight so you can do the Silva - Diaz fight.

They also added a guillotine reversal that you can do when an opponent takes you down, and what they're calling "Finish The Fight 2.0", which appears to be an easier way to move forward to continue striking after you rock your opponent. That was one thing that bugged me with the game was since you can't run like you could in Undisputed, it would sometimes take forever to get to my opponent after rocking him backward and him stumbling away from me...and I'm just swinging at air the whole time.

I might have to pop the game in later today and try these out.

Here's what bothers me...they cry about having a small team, not having the resources that Madden and FIFA have, etc...and yet...they waste time on this shit. How many times have the coach polos in Madden been updated? None. Know why? Because nobody cares. It just feels like that's all they spent time on in NHL 15...things that people will look at one time, and then ignore every subsequent time playing the game.

Even the announcing and presentation can be put in this category. There's no disputing that the game intros are great...but how many times has anyone watched them since the first week the game was out? Madden had those last year too, and it was awesome hearing them talk about "your town". But after a few times, you press A and skip past it. It's nice to have...but it should never have come at the expense of other game modes.

These are the types of updates that developers usually justify by saying "The same people that work on graphics don't work on game play". And that SHOULD be the case here...but yet, they threw a pity party for themselves when basically all of the online modes weren't ready for NHL 15. If you have the resources to spend on dumb shit like this, you should have the resources for proper game modes.

Also, some of you need to start using the yellow comic sans. You're scaring me, haha.

Come on, guys. NHL 15 is a great game!

See how much more obvious that is? lol

By the way, Horizon 2 is amazing. I have been playing it a ton so far.
Yellow comic sans? lol...j/k. Yeah, I know. I will get it eventually. Black Friday 2014...$30! haha, I hope anyway.

Apparently that patch is over a gig too, which seems way to big for what's in that list.
Those next gen textures, I guess. The game itself was something like 22 gigs wasn't it? With hardly any modes in it. Just imagine how much hard drive space it's going to take up once they're finally done patching in OTP and everything else.
