Alan and Rob you might get an achievement the next time you go into the season hub for EASHL.  Nate and I finished off the night with a regular season DNF win and it gave us the "On A Roll" achievement for winning a division title with a perfect record.

Gotta say, the NBA 2K team is fairly impressive. They had a roster update reflecting all 37 trades and Steve Blake changing his jersey number to honor Jerome Kersey the day after the trade deadline. Again, it's sad that developers acknowledging and supporting their game after they already have your money has become so rare that you notice when it happens. But good for them.

So, Newegg has the Life Is Strange season pass on Steam for $6.80. That's a crazy deal considering it's $4 cheaper than I even paid on Nuuvem. It's a 5 part episodic like Walking Dead, and only the first episode is out right now (episode 2 is out in March)...but it was really enjoyable. It seems like it's been getting really good reviews too.

Sweet, thats too good to pass up, thanks for the heads up.

Edit:

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...6.80 is for Episodes 2-5....you still have to buy Episode 1. But luckily its only 2.00, which is still a good deal overall.

Oh, wow. That's a dirty move by Newegg. I saw Season Pass and assumed it was the collection like it's being sold everywhere else. I see now that you have to scroll all the way down to the "features" section before it says "Episodes 2-5". They should have put that in the title or at the very least in the section where it shows the genre and DRM type.

Good thing the first episode isn't too expensive. Not the crazy $4 savings...but still $2 cheaper than I had to navigate a Brazilian website to pay, haha.

I tried playing NHL 15 last night and got no joy from it. I think we're going to part ways as acquaintances, before we become enemies.

Fast forward to about 2:15 for some fantastic EA puck magic.

Might as well get it on Xbox One, Nate. Even when the PC version does release, it'll probably be a while before the bugs will be worked out.
1. Already have it pre-ordered on PC

2. No way would I consider getting it on console with the possibility of native or modded Rift support. There's just too much potential for greatness there.

Ironically, I would assume that it's to polish the game up, but their track record makes me wonder if it will still be a mess
The article does claim that it's to make sure GTA Online and the new Heists are ready on PC on day one. That could just be a convenient excuse though. Either way, I guess at least the game will be fairly loaded with content whenever it does finally come out.

And again, more time for man mounting and getting my V card in Payday 2.

Speaking of GTA V and Heists, they were just announced for March 10th.

Poor GTA V will never see the light of day on the PC they way they are going. Lol.

Or at least we will get the hololens add on before the PC version comes out.

I play 15 otp and I have surprisingly had quite a few games where it's like I'm playing games with you guys. Everybody knows how to play and knows how to cycle the puck.

lol...I wouldn't go that far. Delays happen. It's just frustrating feeling like it's close, but not really. I mean, look at The Division or Project CARS. Those have both been pushed back several times.

The problem with 15 OTP is there's no incentive to give a shit. You might get lucky...or you might get people who just want to screw off. We talked about this on Friday night, but it is disappointing that EA really didn't bother to do anything else to the game since the OTP update in October. They really did abandon the game...which sucks because it does actually play substantially better than 14. It's just still basically half a game.

Much Credit to Landeskog. Beautiful hit, and takes Weber out for 17 minutes. That's a hell of a captain right there! It was definitely a draw though.

Yeah, that was some awesome hockey. Kudos to Lendeskog for not striding into that hit. He glided in and timed it perfectly. It was still brutal because Josi had just turned around to get fucked up something fierce, lol...but it was clean. The fight was pretty great too. And really, the captain compliment applies to both of them, as Weber wasn't going to stand for his linemate getting lit up like that.

The nice thing is this year Weber isn't the only big presence on the team, so him going off like that was more of a spark than anything. And I'll take the end result any day. 41-19 on shots and a 5-2 thumping. I keep saying it, but Nashville is a changed team, man. They're not messing around anymore...especially not at home.

I've been watching a few of Nashville's games. They are looking real good. They've mentioned on a few Wings telecast that Detroit and Nashville are the only two teams who have not lost back to back games in regulation yet this year.

I have a feeling we're going to get them and the Kings in the West Finals barring the matchup happening earlier and/or key injuries. Although Nashville's playoff experience could be a factor earlier.

The Kings have been on fire lately. They've been killing it at Staples Center all year, but had a shitty road record. Seeing my team on an 8 game winning streak has helped assuage the pain of waking at 3 A.M.

Wow...Oculus might be in legitimate trouble.

http://www.pcgamer.com/valves-vr-headset-is-named-vive-and-htc-are-making-it/

Valve's VR announcement is pretty freaking impressive. It's interesting that they're going with 2 screens to give a wider FOV. So, the resolution will end up being 2400x1080...but at 90fps. They claim no judder too. I wonder how the rendering will work, and how different the demand will be on the PC compared to one 1920x1080 screen at 75fps. On face value, it only looks like slightly higher specs...but it'll be interesting to see how much those differences change things.

I also wonder what the price will be. The thing is going to be out this holiday...and the developer version will be out in a couple months. It's pretty crazy that Valve caught up that quickly.

Itll be interesting to see how the current dev landscape will change with 3 VR headsets. Will it be like the console wars where if you want to play X game, you have to have a certain headset?

*waits impatiently for more details on Project Morpheus*

I understand that it won't be as powerful as PC VR headsets, but I'm still very excited. Might get some good info tomorrow:

http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/19/8072173/project-morpheus-virtual-reality
I honestly have no clue how they can pull it off. Assuming the PS4 is capped at 60fps, the first Rift had a hard time making 720p experiences that didn't cause motion sickness from being juddery when you'd turn your head. And even then ones that worked best were games where not much action was going on.

So, unless Sony has some insane tricks that not even Oculus or Valve (which would also include Samsung and HTC) know about, I just don't see how it won't be vomit inducing on anything that's more than a walking simulator.

Yeah, the compatibility thing could definitely make it messy. Part of me wonders if Valve will actually have an easier time since their device will have two screens...so maybe games won't need to be specially rendered since each eye will naturally get its own image. It would just be a question of adjusting the separation to create the 3D effect.

So, then games would just need to support the positional tracking...kind of like many games did with TrackIR before VR was a thing anyway. That seems way too simple, and you'd think if that were feasible, Oculus would have done it...but we'll see how having two screens affects performance. 2015 is definitely going to be an interesting year for VR though.

Well, here we go already. One person who has tried both the newest Rift (Crescent Bay) and Valve's headset says that Valve's is "more advanced and visually stunning". That's really interesting considering Crescent Bay is technically a higher resolution (2560x1440 vs 2400x1080).

The article also claims that making games compatible with both should be doable.

Oh, and maybe even more importantly, the first SteamVR game has been announced and is called Job Simulator, lol.

Does Crescent Bay have that screen door effect? That alone would probably make it seem worse despite the higher resolution, and assuming the Vive doesn't.

From what I've read it's "greatly reduced", "hardly noticeable", etc. But people said that about the DK2 also. My understanding of SDE is that it's a byproduct of the resolution and being so close to the screen...so a higher resolution should be the most foolproof way to reduce it. I have read about different tricks to get rid of it that DLP projectors use, but I don't know if those are possible in a VR setting or what hits to performance they would cause.

It's kind of crazy how Valve has just been sitting back biding their time in all this. But considering the resources they have, I could easily see them just knocking it out of the park. Either way though, this should do a lot to silence the "VR is a gimmick" crowd. There are some pretty substantial companies backing this stuff now...even if you throw out Facebook. Even if Oculus fails horribly, somebody else will push the tech forward.

Valve's stance on:

Virtual Reality: Heck yeah, lets out it out in 2015!

Half-Life 3: LMAO, what are vidya gaems and howdya maek thim

Yeah, I actually saw Markiplier's video of it. It seems really interesting. The Steam description gives a really good explanation of what the game is about.

Town of Salem is a fresh innovation on the classic party games Mafia and Werewolf. It is a game of murder, accusations, deceit and mob hysteria.

How To Play

The game ranges from 7 to 15 players. These players are randomly divided into alignments - Town, Mafia, Serial Killers, Arsonists and Neutrals. If you are a Town member (the good guys) you must track down the Mafia and other villains before they kill you. The catch? You don't know who is a Town member and who is a villain.

If you are an evil role, such as a Serial Killer, you secretly murder town members in the veil of night and try to avoid getting caught.

Roles

Town of Salem has 30 unique roles ensuring a different experience each time you play.

Before a game starts, players are put into a lobby where the host can select what roles will be in the game. Players are then assigned roles at random from the list of chosen roles. Players have an in-game role card that explains their role's abilities and alignments. For an in-depth look at the abilities of each role please visit: www.blankmediagames.com/roles

Game Phases

Night

The night phase is when most roles use their abilities. For example, Serial Killers stealthily murder people, Doctors heal people who are attacked, and Sheriffs interrogate people for suspicious activity.

Day

The day phase allows the Town members to discuss who they suspect of being an evil role. Once the voting phase starts a majority vote from the town will put someone on trial.

Defense

The defense phase is when you plead your innocence to the town. Have a convincing story or find yourself facing the gallows!

Judgement

During this phase the town will vote on the fate of the defendant. Players can vote guilty, innocent or abstain. If there are more guilty votes than innocent votes the defendant is sentenced to death by hanging!

Customization

Players are able to choose their own map (town setting), character, pet, lobby icon, death animation, house and a custom name. The other players in the game will see your selections. There are currently 10 maps, 29 characters, 20 pets, 5 death animations and 20 houses to choose from.

Also, I have no idea how I didn't realize this until now, but Five Nights at Freddy's 3 came out today! :whee:

It's insane how this dude made 3 fairly different games in less than 7 months...and yet the overarching storyline is actually absurdly deep and there are all kinds of easter eggs and hidden messages. It makes me think he must have had the story planned out ahead of time...but it's still pretty amazing to put it all together that quickly.

That's like Mafia, no?

There's a guy on Twitch named Ryuzilla (http://www.twitch.tv/ryuzilla) who broadcasts Mafia games with usually 10+players every Tuesday at 10 pm set. I've been watching it weekly, and even though I'm not playing, it's very fun to watch because it usually gets very heated.

Yeah it's similar. Roles include Serial Killer, Medium, Jailer, Jester, Werewolves, Witches, and more. Crazy stuff. I think I've put about 10 hours in since Saturday night.

Didn't see your post till now somehow. I'm tempted to try to marathon all three games in one night and see if I go insane. I like how the dev never announces it ahead of time, and just releases it. Reminds me of the Dreamcast launch.

Mafia and Salem definitely seem like fun games, but a massive e time sink. Don't know about Salem, but a game of Mafia can last 2 hours (at least on that Ryuzilla channel it has), and that's too much for me to commit at once on a week night.

Haha, that would be something to see. I like the random releases too...though I have seen theories on why the games are released the way they are and about the number of days between each game, the dates, etc. and that it ties into the story.

There's a crazy amount of backstory with these games. I know some people have shit on the developer for caahing in on being a Youtube sensation, but he really has a goldmine with this franchise. I mean, there's enough there that I could see somebody making a freaking movie based on it.

I beat the first two games (well...I got through Night 6 on the first game and Night 5 of the second game...screw that 4 x 20 and 10 x 20 nonsense, haha). But I might hold off a bit on the 3rd one. The first two went on sale/got bundled pretty quickly after launch. I would imagine that will happen again.

Decent mini-Steam sale

http://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamos_sale/?snr=1_4_4__40_2

All the Payday DLC except for the Overkill packs and the recent Mod pack are on sale too if anyone is missing anything they want.

I picked up the Diamond and Bomb heists, so unless you want the masks/materials/patterns from those, don't buy them since you can still play them; just cant host (unless you want to host).

Last edited by a moderator:
Yes! Even faster lockpick! Definitely grabbing Clover for that reason...and I might pick up the Diamond Heist just for the hell of it. I've been playing the game so much on my own lately, having the extra heist probably wouldn't be bad. Dragan and Bomb Heists are only 50% off anyway. I can hold out longer on those, haha.
