Yeah, I got on Steam after I finished up so that I could download those bundle games and play something with you guys, but it said it was offline for maintenance.

Any idea what time you guys will start tonight? The Kings/Dicks game starts a little after 8 P.M. EST but I will get on right after it ends. I could probably join a voice chat even while the game is still going, assuming I don't have to be playing a game in order to talk to you guys on Steam.

We were on Steam for a good 3-4 hours. I kept checking, and it said you were Away, Matt. The four of us played Damned for about an hour or two. Then, Gary, Brandon, and I tried our luck with Cry of Fear. It took us a bit to get it going...and Brandon didn't play for too long because while the game wasn't totally crashing/disconnecting, he did start getting some weird lag. But Gary and I kept going, and we actually had a pretty good time.

Gary would get dropped at odd times, but he didn't have any trouble reconnecting. He never got that "channel overflow" error. And we actually played all the way through the Part 2/Chapter 10 map...and made it to the train with all the giants outside. That was when I remembered Alan and I never officially beat that part. We got there, and Alan was like "run this way"...and then we died and didn't want to start over, lol.

But Gary and I ran through, avoided the giants...couldn't figure out where to go, but were able to shoot at the giants from the other side of the train. Once we ran out of ammo, we just made sure we attacked them one at a time and never died at the same time, so the other person would always respawn. We killed them all, then found the entrance to the train. Getting through one entire level in Cry of Fear is no small feat, so I was pretty proud of us, haha.

Tonight, I'll probably be on around 10PM ET again. It looks like Assetto Corsa multiplayer still isn't happening (they must have really overestimated how "ready" it was), so yeah...I'll be up for playing whatever. More Damned (depending who is on), Cry of Fear...Hawken...War Thunder dogfights are pretty good too.

I didn't mean to imply that Steam was down all night or something. It was offline when I checked, so I gave it about 15 minutes and decided to go do other stuff due to my short attention span. I am assuming I was automatically logged back in once the service was restored.

The Kings game, barring overtime, should end around 10:45 EST. I don't have Damned, but I think I have installed all the other games we've discussed playing over these past few days.

Ah, ok. Yeah, I kind of figured that after I submitted my post. You checked it once and then didn't get back to it, haha. Conversely, we were checking Steam like every 2 minutes to figure out when we didn't have to play NHL anymore.

 
I probably would have checked again had I received my headset yesterday, but I've got it now and am setting it up immediately after clicking reply. Then it's on to install the wireless adapter, and I should be all set so that I'll be ready for action immediately after the hockey game concludes.

Cool. Steam does have a party chat too. So, you can get in on that whenever.

Looks like Steam is having issues again.  Store page is either loading very slowly or not at all.  Lots of complaints from the steam reddit, and only like 150,000 people showing online instead of the usual millions.

 
Well, that sucks to hear. Hope it's fixed soon! I was messing around on there during intermission and it did seem a bit slow. I had problems with videos in the store.
 
New announce team is nice. But I can't even take this shit seriously anymore.

Yup...I bet. I'm sure it won't ever suction toward somebody's stick, bounce into the netting like it's on the moon, or see a slapshot off the face turned into a breakaway...by the person who took the slapshot to the face. Those things will never happen because they "rebuilt the puck physics".

LMAO...how are they not embarrassed to even say this crap? Stop telling everybody you made the AI better, and then maybe one year, if it ever happens, people will just be like "Holy crap! The AI is good now. This is awesome!" This constant BS of getting everybody's hopes up is beyond a joke at this point.

Damn...I sound incredibly pessimistic. I guess that shows I'm just past the point of giving EA the benefit of the doubt anymore. But to me, that press release looks like the same old, same old (with the exception of the new commentators...which is probably going to account for a lot of sales by itself). But I need to actually see that half of this stuff isn't bullshit lies.

 
Actually, I just noticed...those were the listed improvements for the next gen versions (which, obviously...do matter more). But if you look near the top of the page on the left side, you can change the console. When you select Xbox 360, the list changes/shrinks (basically, it's the exact same as NHL 14 other than the commentary). Unless I win a next gen system somehow, there's probably a 99% chance that I'm done with NHL after this year for a little while.

And if you select the 360 or PS3 the feature list drops down to like 3 things and one of them is NHL 94 mode returning.

Looks like it will shadow Madden from this year. If you buy next gen then you get smart AI, otherwise you get stuck with morons.

And considering NHL 94 mode sucked, that's not much to brag about. I'll be curious to see some previews of the next-gen version, though I suspect that it will likely not matter.

 
I could see PS4 being the easiest upgrade when the time does come. I've already heard about a possible price drop, and I'm pretty sure Warehouse Deals has already had them as low as $275. We'll see how this summer goes, but my priority will be on the new Rift dev kit and possibly upgrading my CPU/MOBO/RAM...which is unfortunately dated enough that I'd have to do all three at once.

Initially, I'm not opposed to getting either next gen system, but then when I think about it, it would only be for NHL. And then I wonder why I even considered it.

Haha, that's basically where I'm at. NHL, EA UFC, Kingdom Hearts 3...and I guess Madden. That's really all I "need' from consoles. And even then...how many of those games are going to be mostly broken? All those things considered, the buy in would have to be very appealing. Crazy how far I've come from being excited when the PS3 dropped to $500, lol.

You make a solid point. I was also a fan of Battle Chess growing up and played a good bit of it on NES. I was kind of digging the art style of Check vs Mate until I saw Giant Bomb's video of it. The queen cupping her boobs at 8:44 as a "victory move" was terrible, lol.

Yeah...it's just one of those situations where they probably should have just not said anything about multiplayer until after they added it. People are going nuts on their forums accusing them of "stealing people's money", Assetto being "abandonware", etc. Now people are starting rumors that all future cars and tracks are going to be paid DLC. Basically just the internet being the internet.

Someone raised an interesting point though...all the people (see also: kids) freaking out and being jerks about it now are probably people you wouldn't want to race with anyway as they would just crash into people constantly and ruin the races. So, if this delay weeds out the jerkoffs, it could make for a better experience in the long run, haha.

That's good to hear. My copy wasn't delivered by UPS til 10 P.M. EST. That's 7 here, but most of my PSN friends who got the game are on Eastern time and can't play late. Plus the White Sox/Cubs game was on WGN, and I wasn't going to miss that to play the video game. So I haven't gotten to try out the online yet. I'd rather my first online experience be with a friend than a random opponent.
 
Wow...Disney Infinity is now free to play on PC. I've had it on 360 ever since Wal-Mart had that price glitch. I've hardly put any time into it (even though I have picked up other characters from various sales). I wonder if the base from the 360 game will work on PC.

That is nice as an option, but it's not for me. I'm not paying that much for new characters if I don't get a nifty figure. That's half the appeal, anyway. I never really cared about the franchise much until they announced the 2.0 Marvel version, though.

Pretty sure it's always been free to play. And you can unlock figures if you have the little card that comes with the figures.

Really? I just saw a post about it on my Facebook news feed today. That's the only reason I knew about it. Disney themselves made it seem like a big deal, lol. Good to know about the extra characters though. Maybe I'll try it on PC sometime. Playing using the actual figures while having a toddler nearby has been nigh impossible, haha.

 
I stopped playing and traded it when they went and made "crystal" variants of figures. I wish the game was more like LBP. Would be so much more fun.
 
Yay! Assetto Corsa multiplayer is finally up. Only a week late, haha. Of course, people are bitching already that it has "bugs", lol. You'd think people had no clue what "early access" and "alpha" mean, haha.

 
Can we get two wins tonight? With these new shorter hockey nights, it feels like I haven't played NHL in forever, haha. I almost kind of miss it...wtf is this? :lol:

I should be on in about an hour.
