Official Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver thread of 10 year nostalgia rush
It is so hard finding a "fair" trade on the GTS though. Everything I look up wants Celebi, Arceus, Darkrai, etc.
It's more a result of those fair trades being instantly completed. You only see mostly lopsided ones since those are the ones likely to stay up for any portion of time. When wanting to do a fair trade it's best to just use the deposit option, and then browse for other things using the seek option.
It is so hard finding a "fair" trade on the GTS though. Everything I look up wants Celebi, Arceus, Darkrai, etc.
I agree! All I wanted was a Growlithe for my SS, and everyone on the GTS wanted rediculous trades for one. I didn't want to start my HG right away, so luckily my brother got me one, made an egg and traded with me. I think this is why it's important to have a Pokemon community on here, so we can all have the Pokemon were looking for and trade with nice people. Serebii isn't too bad either.
It is so hard finding a "fair" trade on the GTS though. Everything I look up wants Celebi, Arceus, Darkrai, etc.
The GTS has always been like that. I remember getting Pearl on launch day and a few days later going on GTS. Everyone wanted starter Pokemon in the trades. Now it has slowly developed into everyone wanting the latest legendary Pokemon.

In Diamond I left a Zubat for a few days and got a level 100 (obviously hacked) Japanese Piplup. Also traded a Geodude for another rare Pokemon, don't remember which.

I can't beat Morty. I handle his Gastly fine with Gyarados. But Shadow Ball KOs my Dratini (I want to hit it with Thunderwave to slow it down) and Gyarados can't survive long enough to kill it. I tried using Pidgeotto (immune to Shadow Ball) and kept Sand Attacking him, it'd reduce Hypnosis' accuracy and prevent Sucker Punch from doing damage. But then he does Mean Look so I can't weaken him, switch out, and then attack with something more powerful.
You keep saying you can't trade in platinum when you can, which was my point. I have done many trades in platinum via seeking. Sure it's a pain in the ass to not know the level beforehand (since you run into cases where you have the pokemon requested but not of the level wanted), but it was still possible to trade via seeking. I didn't mean to turn this into an argument, I was just pointing out that it's possible to do both on Platinum.
OK, fine will it help if I say the following "I hated only having the option to trade by putting up a pokemon and not by seeking".

I don't know if you had a later version of Platinum or what but I could not trade by seeking no matter what. I ran into many cases on where the level didn't matter or they had specified levels. I tried both and I could never EVER get a pokemon through seeking. The only way I could get one was by putting my own pokemon up for trade. So thankfully now with the copy of SS that I have (since I lost my Diamond) I am able to once again trade by doing both.

Is that better? I cannot do both on Platinum. I could see what people were offering and what they wanted and no matter what I tried I could never trade with anyone. So no, at least for me it was not possible to do both in Platinum. Later versions were fixed from what I read.

GTS is indeed hard to find some normal trades but you definitely have to change what levels you are looking for. Look through all of them because if you choose Any level you'd be surprised how little seem to be offering, maybe one or two, then choose 5 and under and you get 5 people trading for some reason. Either way you will find some normal looking trades out there. Though tons of requests for legendary.

Maybe try finding a Normal pokemon with Physic or Ghost moves. I found a Stantler near the town Morty is located. I leveled it up to like 22 and with Hypnosis and Astonish, that whole gym was pretty easy. I also had my Croconaw finish off his Gengar with Bite (dark moves work well too). I will trade (give) you my Stantler if you want it. I won't be using it again.

I also ran across Entei and thought I was going to get KOed since all my pokemon are level 20-25 and it was 40. Then it ran away, lol. I forgot about that and should have thrown that fast ball I had.

Finally beat Morty. I brought Sudowoodo with me, thinking it might be tough enough to survive a Shadow Ball and then use Mimic. It was KO'd, but Morty made the mistake of using Mean Look as soon as I brought in Gyarados. And he wasted his Hyper Potion when I used Dratini's Dragon Rage on his first Gastly.

I would have said lose the bug contest and eqiup Shed Skin that way they can switch.
I would up beating Morty with my Ninetales

I agree that ppl on the GTS suck. I went looking for an Eevee for Jolteon and they wanted a Celebi. REALLY. PPl on there suck major balls.

Anyone got a spare firestone and thunderstone theyd trade for an Eevee or Chikorita

This will be my last post on the subject, as I never meant to derail things. I was just trying to be helpful and let you know that you could trade through seek. I understood what you were saying. What you are saying is incorrect. You can look it up via google or any other search engine. The problem was that the level wanted did not show. Every single posted pokemon would list as if the user did not care at all what level the pokemon was, when in fact they did care and you just could not see it. There was never a problem where you could not trade at all via seeking. If you tried it 50 times and 50 times you could not complete a trade, then each and every time it was because you did not have a pokemon with a high enough level. You could get your copy fixed by sending it in to Nintendo, though they wipe your saved game.

Im in Kanto.
Beat Surge, Sabrina, and Erika.

It ticks me off you have to get all the Kanto badges before you can get the Game Boy music player. In my opinion they should have had that option available from the start.
And who got their 3rd, and 4th gen in my 2nd gen! I've fought trainers with Bronzongs, Plusles, and Minuns! >:[

My current team consists of Typhlosion, Steelix, Murkrow, Kingler, Amphrios, and Lugia.

Glad it is your last post on this subject. Though you were trying to be helpful, it was not. Not all pokemon were shown as if the user did not care what level the pokemon was. I stated this earlier in one of my posts. Some would show as whatever level, while others did show with a level range. So the ones that showed what level I tried to trade for and could not get the trade to work. At times I would go see which higher level pokemon they wanted and would go off to catch it in the wild. The trade was still open and I did have the desired level, yet could not select it.

It is not like you said, that they cared for a level and I could not see it. The fact is some did show (not always, but occasionally so for those what you said was true), but I could still not trade. I know I could get my copy fixed by sending it to Nintendo, but did not want to start all over again.

As I said, I am happy that this problem was fixed with later copies and that it was not a problem with HG and SS so I could once again do trading both ways. Now can we just go back to discussing HG and SS?

I was wondering just how many steps it would take to really raise the friendship of a pokemon completely. For example to evolve Togepi you could technically just have him in your pokewalker for a few days without trading him back (only your gifts and pokemon) and when you trade him go level him up by a fight or a rare candy and at level 2 you would have a Togetic. Same with Umbreon/Espeon. Anyone have any idea, what does the friendship rater in Goldenrod have to say?

i did the Soothe Bell and the hair salon in the Goldenrod underground.
Had Espeon by lv 20 which made me hapi since i got a friend to trade me a TM29 for Psychic.

Check out the Raffle on the top floor of the department store.
The have three prizes that change everyday.
3rd-some sort of berry
2nd- some sort of ball, luxury, dive, nest, etc
1st- some sort of TM, so far ive got Shadow Claw and Dragon Claw.

For 300 pokebucks its cheap as hell. Its all luck so you might have to do it a few times b4 you get the TM but oh so worth it.

OKAY CAGs, I need help.
I want to trade some Pokemon over to my Pearl Version from SoulSilver, train thema nd teach them moves and then trade them back so they will be supped up.
I need a cag to help as I only have one DS Lite. In exchange I would offer a GAMESTOP PICHU for helping me out and any items/TMs i have on the Pearl version as I think I have a lot. put in over 500 hrs in that one.
It would be a real big help.

PM me if you can help.
Thx a bunch

Finally earned enough coins to get a Dratini from the Game Corner today. I know there's a better Dratini in the game, but I don't really care, as I don't battle competitively. I just wanted to have a Dratini from the Game Corner.

And now he's clipped to my pants, and I'm off to work out. :bouncy:

Mkay, time for a daily update (more for me to reflect than for you to see, but I see this thread and think: "Why not?"

34.5 hours in

My team is:
Level 64 Togekiss
Level 60 Umbreon
Level 56 Golem
Level 57 Tyranitar
Level 56 Feraligatr
Level 46 Lugia (HM Slave)

Before I fight Red, I plan on:
1) Beating the regular Elite 4 5 more times
2) Beating Blue
3) Beating new Elite 4 once or twice
4) Catching Ho-Oh and Suicune

Also, as a little note: I basically came at
the double battle with your rival against Claire and Lance

PM me Adriley, how many pokemon are we talking about? If there is a time frame that works for me I can help ya out.

I beat Chuck earlier today. Used my Heracross and Aerial Ace. Took care of Primeape in 2 hits. Got 2 on Machoke, but then died. Sacrified by Zubat to revive it and it finished off the Machoke. I went to fight Jasmine but her Steelix raped both my Heracross and Quilava. Then I went grinding with Quilava and caught some Pokemon on the way. It's now a Typhlosion. I plan on OHKO'ing her Magnemites with Heracross' Brick Break and then OHKO'ing Steelix with Typhlosion's Lava Plume.

It's annoying that the wild Pokemon are really low levels. I didn't beat Jasmine but I went up to Lake of Rage. The Pokemon along the way are levels 13-15, 17 tops.

I raped morty today. I had a Alakazam lvl 23 entering. It took damage once from one of the guys before morty, and got 1 shotted by morty's haunter. It one shotted every pokemon in that place except for morty's last haunter (because haunter striked first) which flaffy and quilava finished for me. Alakazam is now lvl 27 .

So... how much better is this than Gold/Silver. I have $40 in RZ certificates and I'm wondering if I should pick this up now or just wait on a cheap used copy? I'm not interested at all in the Pokewalker so I don't care if I get that or not.

I'm having more fun with this than I did with Platinum, if that's any kind of comparison for you.

In that case, I think I might go pick it up. I played Diamond (never bothered to pick up Platinum) and logged about 120 hours into it and it was pure fun. I'll see how far as I can get into my backlog in these next two weeks though. If I can finish up 2 games that I already started (I hate having to stop playing games before they are completed), I'll go and pick it up. If not, it can wait a little while longer. The certificate only expires in June and I don't plan on picking anything up before that.

I second this, for sure. I've been hanging around Goldenrod for a few days now. Such a great game.

I agree this game is a definate buy for any pokefan.
Was a day one purchase for me.

So with my new team and moves are all ready.
Me and Lapras just went and swept Claire and her gym.
Lapras- Surf. Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Dragon Pulse.
She never stood a chance. The biggest problem was her Kingdra. Funny how he tried to use Hydro Pump when I was weak and powered me back up for the win.

Ayjels Team
Espeon- 45
Lapras- 46
Gengar- 45
Flareon- 45
Jolteon- 45
Pupitar- 49

Starting to use great mixed moves so Im ready to face the elite four.

Question? How do U get the Dratini special or not. I passed the test but never got the pokemon. Any help.

thx a bunch to all the ppl that helped me switch my pokemon over and offered.
You guys rock.

Wow, you logged 120 into Diamond? I think I had about 60 or so before I got rid of it(which I now regret, given some of the rare ones I worked at getting...) At any rate, if you logged 120 into Diamond, it's very easy to suggest HG/SS to you then.

Did you go in with an open spot in your roster? The Drantini is given directly to you and not put into Bill's PC.

Looking at your line-up confirms what I suspected. It takes a while to get higher levels in Johto, just like the original games. I currently 16 hours in and have a level 27 team. I want to get it to level 30 before I fight Morty because I want a team between levels 55 - 60 when I face the Elite 4. So it's back to the grind.

I still think Gold/Silver/Crystal was the best GB/GBA gen. And I'm still loving my copy of HG. As soon as my brother and I get together, I'll trade some pokemon from my copy of Pearl (with Jirachi and colored Pichu) to this game. So I can beat the game with a different team than I did in Silver and have my Gravler evolve.

Got to the Pokathalon today! What a nice surprise! I've earned three different medals so far. It's a really cute little place. Sure beats gay skipping about and dressing up in the D/P/P Pokémon Contests.

Damn straight I logged 120 hours into it. :) Right around 100 hours I started EV training a team and only got to finish training 3 of the 6 I wanted on the team before I stopped playing. I really regret selling it because I had some pretty good pokemon on Diamond. Oh well... Starting from scratch isn't too bad.

I've logged about 270 in Diamond. And I only played 20 hours from a few weeks after it came out to December 2009. I had a hard time getting into it and ignored it for awhile.

haha, go for the Magby.
I keep my Togepi in till he gets me a Smoochum and Kangaskhan.

Just made it to the Elite Four but not ready to battle them yet. Gonna try some more training then its so on.

One thing Pokemon never got right was how they went from crazy levels.
If i just foughtClaire and she had Lv 45 pokemon then why not make every trainer after above here levels. They way Im not surprised when I get to the Elite Four and they have Lv 55 and up pokemon

Is there any way to get a leaf stone 4th badge in besides the pokeathlon? I wanna evolve my gloom to vileplume but I don't want to wait until Thursday.

Pryce's pokemon were incredibly under level. My Heracross just slaughtered him and it was only level 32. Though it is Heracross' high attack doing 6x the damage so it's not a fair assessment. But still, if Clair has pokemon levels 40-45, his highest level pokemon shouldn't be a levle 34 Piloswine.

No, the prizes at the Pokeathalon vary by day, I know thursdays they have the leaf stone for sale.

I'm really glad to know that. I was a little underwhelmed by the prizes for today, although I do want that Fire Stone sometime.

How soon is this game do you get Fly? And I know I asked already, but no one replied yet: What are the point of the data cards for sale at the Pokéathalon?

Does anyone have a Chikorita egg that they can let me have?

You get it after beating the gym in Cianwood city. The point of the cards is to track your winnings and loses and stuff.

He's absolutely right. You are only given 3 different pokemon at a time. If the pokemon from the group you want is not appearing and you're getting the other one, well you have to return from you stroll and go back to try again.

Yeah, the guide says something about this, and I just noticed it this evening. Something like how only one Pokémon from each group will appear. I've seen the representative from each Pokémon group so far except the final one. Either Onix or Magby will appear. If Onix appears, I'll transfer Eevee back to the Pokéwalker and try a different Pokémon.

Got my ass beaten by Red today, only got past his Pikachu and Lapras, with the latter basically raping my entire team rather mercilessly. It ended with a one pokemon standing against his blastoise, my umbreon, which was how it was supposed to end. Eh, I might put this game down, I don't love this game as much as Id hoped. Its cool, and quite a bit bigger than Platinum, but there's just not enough new stuff to it. I'd honestly probably give it a 7/10, should I want to review it.

Can anyone spare 3 ganlon berries? I really want to evolve Feebas. lol I can trade these: Magby, Dratini. Gible, Bagon

How many Pokemon have you obtained?

Thank you. I forgot you had to get the Silver Wing first. Would have gone through Whirl Island for nothing (I hate going through water and caves for a long stretch). I used nothing but my Dragonair on every Rocket Grunt. Went from level 36 to 42. If it doesn't seem like much, Dragonair takes forever to level up. I usually spread out the EXP, but I need Dragonair to be strong for Claire and it's much easier to grind my other Pokemon on wild pokemon than Dragonair. Plus it gets me closer to the immensely more useful Dragonite.

Man I gotta get this, but no time! aaaagh. Went to visit my buddy in his lab, and he had his pokewalker... sitting on the minishaker in the lab. lazy fuck
