Official Ratchet & Clank Future Thread

So does this game count as A or AAA or A- or B+ or what?

Either way, I'm pretty excited for it. Glad its coming out in October.

Man...im SO happy im getting a PS3 this week!

R&C, UT2007, Turok, Little Big Planet, etc etc...the list goes on and on.

btw hows multiplayer looking for this one?
Free demo with pre-order at GS.

They should get them this week apparently.
So they won't be releasing a demo on the PSN?

Really? That doesn't make much sense to produce blu-ray demo discs while not offering it on the store by now. I may have to put a preorder down and pick up a demo when they start appearing.

Not sure what's up with the PSN demo, maybe just GS getting a deal with Sony for some discs.

All I know is, I want it.

It just seems strange after the whole OPM debaucle saying the demos, and thus the magazine itself, weren't necessary anymore since they'll be offering demos for download on the PS3.

Just promotion I guess, plus not everyone gets online with it.

As for OPM, I bet when the install base gets back up to good levels, we'll see some sort of official mag.

And the PS2 or PSP's install bases aren't high enough for the mag to be relevant? It's not like the mag needed PS3 demos to be good, as the PS2 is still healthy and alive enough that demos for games like Wild Arms 5, Odin Sphere, GH: Rock the 80s, and Persona 3 would've been nice.

BOOO!

Demo dated for Oct. 4th

UK, September 11, 2007 - Despite it sounding like a euphemism for robot hemorrhoids, we're big fans of Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank series. Thrillingly then, Sony's told IGN that a demo of upcoming Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will hit PSN on October 4.

News of a demo first surfaced during an interview with the Insomniac team on website TheDaily.com.au when an unhelpfully nameless Insomniac employee commented, "We essentially flat-out demolish the symbol of PlayStation 2 Ratchet & Clank: the city of Metropolis [in Tools of Destruction]. Players will get a sneak peek of this level via a downloadable demo that should hit the PlayStation Network Store in the not-too-distant future."

We contacted SCEE for confirmation and, indeed, it seems PlayStation 3 owners will have the chance to download and revel in the game's opening level from October 4. Ratchet & Clank fans: rejoice! Anyone with robot hemorrhoids: sad face :(

Really looking forward to this.

... And maybe I'm dense, but where is there any mention of robot hemorroides. They love the sophomoric puns in this series, but the hemorrhoid reference seems to be over my head (and I'm a physician).
As I said, its the reason I got a PS3.
For me it was the clincher. My second PS2 was dying, I had PS2 games to finish, the PS3 is a great DVD player. Ratchet and Clank was the icing.
Sweet!

My local store got a few copies in.
I'm just gonna go pick one up right now.
Its a really fun demo. I played it a Wizard World. I called my local GS and they had copies too. I going to pick one up to play again!

JStevenson over at GAF (one of the Insomniac guys) said this is from the 3 month old E3 build and that the game has since been polished and is locked at it's framerate and v-sync is on.

Do I HAVE to pre-order to get it? I really don't like giving GS my money. IF I do pre-order just for the demo, can I go back and get my actual money back (cancel)?

>>>Oh I see the demo is slated for release via PSN within the next few weeks, so I might wait if they won't give me my money back.

They'll give you your money back yeah.
You only have to put down $5.00 anyway.

Demo is awesome by the way.
Damn the graphics are good.
There's a lot of tearing but Insomniac has already said it's completely gone. This is from the old E3 build.

Game is NOICE!

Played the demo, and it's fun, but why does this series still have no lock-on button? The controls screen says L2 and R2 are lock-on, but all they seem to do is strafe. It's annoying as hell, and something I've hated since this series' inception.

damnit, I was just at my local gamestop to do some trade-in fodder and pick up skate. (which they didn't have.. Q_Q)--And I missed a chance at the demo? Christ. Thanks dallow for the hookup--- looks great. R&C is one of my favorites, will be picking this up for sure.

Demo Disc?! What the fuck?

Sony shit cans their official mag because "with the interwebs, no one needs them shiny discs no mo!", yet they release a demo disc of something that surely needs to be on the PSN as surely as we need to breathe.

Not that big of a deal, I'm sure, but still it's little nuances like these that really make me scratch my head and wonder what the hell is up with Sony at times (and M$, and Nintendo, but those are different stories, for different times).

I should really hunt down a demo at my local EBGS.

You can wait 2-3 weeks and the same demo is going to be offered on the PSN.

Or you could just go into the game cold.

I've played every Ratchet and Clank game that way.

Grabbed the demo yesterday. The game felt like it was coming along great.

The only thing that pissed me off was when I died once, and the screen went completely black and never came back on. I had to hard reset the PS3.

The demo had very bad screen tearing. Hopefully this isn't in the final release. When I was jumping from rail to rail, it wasn't super responsive. If they tighten up the controls and fix the screen tearing issue, I will be buying it asap.

Hopefully the demo on PSN will be from a new build.

Unless they went back, it will be the same as what is on the demo disc because I think I read the same thing was submitted for the PSN process.

Really? Are you just guessing, or has this been confirmed?

To be honest, I had no real intention of playing demo. I know it's going to be awesome (this is Insomniac we're talking about here), and I really don't want to spoil any of the game.

Don't have time for link that says it is the same, but others might be able to confirm. Here is link stating date for PSN demo release though.

I hate you. Not really. There are just too damn many great games coming out in these next few months! Thanks for helping me part with more of my money. This will probably end up being on of the games I get in the annual Buy 2 Get 1 free sale at TRU. The demo was pretty good. It reminds me of why I like the series.

Got the demo. They made me pre-order and I didn't really want to. I don't care anymore though, because after the demo I know I will want this at release.

Awesomeness

The latest PSM says that the game probably won't have multi-player. Since the last three Ratchet games have all had a MP mode (even on the PSP) I find that kind of shocking. I'm more than a little disappointed about it, though the game is still a must purchase for me (as if you couldn't tell from my avatar)

No there is no any multiplayer as far as I know. I think that is a good thing. :)

Exactly, they can focus on the single-player and make it as good as possible.

Well, I'd agree if the multiplayer were the main focus like the pretty awful Ratchet : Deadlock. But if it's in addition to an awesome single-player game like Commando or Arsinal, then it's just extending the game's life and since $60 is a lot of money, I was hoping for both. But yes, single player is by far the most important aspect of a good R&C game.
