Official Rock Band Thread (It's out, bitches)

Any person here seen a cheap mic stand? My roommate and I are setting up a little area for rocking out in our theatre and he thinks we need a mic stand. Any deals?

Tried it today at Best Buy...

-The Fender Guitar is awhole different animal compared to the SG/Explore/Les Paul/X-Plorer/Kramer from Guitar Hero. Before I start explaining, I don't want to sound negative, but more so it's just different from what I'm used to from so much GH. Anyways, the fret buttons take awhile to get used to. Literally my fingers got lost first couple of times, but slowly got the hang of it. The strum bar though feels no where as loose compared to GH and makes no noise and is alot thinner then I imagined. So at times I'm uncertain if I strummed or not, because at times just used to the clicking or more motion of GH.
-The fret's indeed move rather slowly. Expert on Guitar moved at I'd say hard/medium pace of Guitar Hero 1.
-The drums are insanely fun. Tried it on medium and it felt challenging still, but don't know if it's me, the people, or just the drum sticks itself, but the sticks were basically leaving small tiny splinters on the drum pad. I felt at times I was going to break it or something if I beat them too hard.
-So Sick by Flyleaf should be one of the bonus songs. During the start screen I distinctly heard it playing so that should be the song.

Sorry guys, but I finally decided to get this, and don't want to read through 23 pages...

- Will feature full support for four player online play on both 360 and PS3. Any combination of on/offline play will work and each player can pick their own difficulty setting.

Does that mean cross-platform play? Most of my friends are getting it for ps3, but I'd prefer to get it for my 360 if you can play cross platform with friends.

My friends who played Rock Band on the national tour said the same thing.

Both of them actually didn't like the new guitar at all.

This worries me. I was hoping all the videos of it were on medium or easy. I'm afraid I'm going to be bored if they really are that slow. I like me some crazy ass solos and fast picking (Through the Fire and the Flame is seriously just soooo much fun to play in GHIII)

Time To Start Worrying About Rock Band Availability
EA boss John Riccitiello has said that Rock Band's in short supply. OK, we knew that, but he means shooooort supply. Like, not only will it be hard to come by in the US this Christmas, but even when it's made available in Europe, it'll still be hard to come by. How hard? Seems they just haven't made enough of them, Riccitiello saying: This is definitely not a sprint. We're not going to be able to put enough inventory to meet demand in North America or Europe this calendar year or this fiscal [year]

Also on Kotaku is the report that the box being sold in some places are demo units, missing things like microphones, pedals for the drums, or even a full game. I knew when I heard of the street date being broke this early something wierd was going on, if the box is so big, why the heck would they ship to stores so early, no store wants full version games taking a large portion of the store for several weeks.

I played Wanted Dead or Alive at Best Buy yesterday, lead guitar, on medium (which is generally what I play GHII on).

I breezed through it on the first playthrough. 97% and 5 stars.

Some general thoughts:
- I really liked the guitar, a lot. It's far superior to the Xplorer.
- The song list, even on the demo, is great.
- The rectangular frets oddly enough, I think, are easier to read quickly (though they're not really that quick...) than the GH ones.
- The fact they show you what your current star rating is and how close you are to getting the next star is awesome.
This worries me.
And pleases me. Let the "competitive" players have the Guitar Hero games. I want something fun to play that isn't going to scare the shit out of my non-gamer friends. I'd much rather have this game not become impossible for the uninitiated halfway through the medium chart.

Who here is going to get this and isn't afraid of singing infront of all his friends ?

I know, I'm going to be singing my ass off.

Sing or torture with agonizing screeching?

I think I'll be going for both... Since none of my friends are willing to sing and I gotta get my money's worth.

tried the drums today. played paranoid, say it ain't so, dani california and the Rush song all on expert. the first three were pretty easy, got around 95% completion, but the Rush song got me near the end (neil peart!)

add the bass pedal and this game will be pretty challenging :) i play a little drums IRL and it was still quite fun, although not nearly as physically taxing.

I played this at Best Buy and came to the conclusion that playing real drums is easier than playing Rock Band drums. It didn't help that the blue pad didn't like responding to my hits.
More bonus songs.

Maybe I'm spoiled by GH2's and GH3's inclusion of actual bands into their bonus tracks, but me=not impressed.
Agreed. With the exception of Flyleaf, I have never heard of any of those bands.

I don't really remember any name-brand bands in the GH2 bonus tracks. A bunch of groups from GH2 bonus tracks will be in the RB bonus, like Vagiant, Freezepop, and Honest Bob. (All of which feature Harmonix employees).

I think that's majority of the sentiment of the people for Rock Band (Though mostly those who are playing the hell outta GH3).

Shadows Fall, Voivod, All that Remains, Dethklok, Buckethead, and Every Time I Die are not bands made up of Harmonix employees.

Man, this song list sucks ass.

As long as there's no repeats of "Yes We Can," I'm fine with the usual stuff.

I wouldn't base the quality of the retail package on the instruments at BB, which get beat on by every kid and teenager that walks by the display. I remember the bongos they had hooked up to the DK Jungle Beat display, where the rubber was warped and it was unplayable.

Yeah. It seems like every kiosk I see has something missing or broken, like a PSP missing the analog nub, Dual Shocks missing the rubber part of the sticks, etc. People just have to wreck things. Plus, having cables attached to the drumsticks didn't help either.

Seriously? Damn.

I remember seeing a DS on display at a Wal-Mart a month or so after it came out. Both screens were heavily scratched, with the bottom screen being about 90% scratched up and the top screen was about 60% scratched up. I was horrified that such a horrible thing could be done so quickly.

The cables were for anti-theft purposes and to keep them from being lost, not to connect to the drums or anything. They were just a little too short for me.

I know that. I was surprised that they needed to tether them down to keep people from stealing them.

I think the main thing was to keep them near the drums. Although I don't put it past people to steal things like drumsticks off of a Rock Band kiosk.

"Hai guyz, I stole me sum stix from Best Buy!!"

They were pretty cheap anyway. And they used these metal cables that aren't too flexible.

i didn't look thru all the pages here, but how is this connected to the console?

for instance, the 360 has 2 front usb ports, is there a hub for rockband? of do the plug into the drum set or something?

the 360 version comes with a [ 4 point i believe ] hub that requires a powersupply.

Played the game today. I played Tom Sawyer. Drums are awesome, but the rock band guitar not so much. It's small, and I just don't really like it

I finally got to try out the game today at Best Buy.

The drums were really fun.

Concerning the guitar, I really didn't mind the new buttons but I absolutely HATED the strum bar. The strum bar reminded me of the one that is on the Guitar Freaks guitar. I am already considering picking up the GH3 guitar in the new future to replace the Rock Band guitar.

great game although a little easy on expert. Tom Sawyer should have been alot harder on drums, but I do play them so maybe that helped a tad :)

The guitar is not to small? Your insane if you think that thing was small i picked it up and thought fuck this thing is huge.

I thought the neck lacked the thickness I'm use to with Guitar Hero guitars. That's one of the reasons I hated the X-Plorer because it felt like I had the hands of a giant. Though was too focused on the top to really try the bottom frets, so maybe it's something I'll get more accustomed to (I hope).

Though I think I rather play bass/guitar on the X-plorer over the Fender.

Size wise, meh. I thought about the same as Guitar Hero guitars, not much to complain about and besides in the end it's a fucking plastic guitar. I can make do.

I thought it was small, but that's probably because I'm big. And the strum bar sucks

I was pretty much sold on this...I have a ton of FYE credit and my friend was giving me 30.00 for my GHII controller, but now I'm reading you CAN'T use the RockBand controller in GHII and III?

Yea..that just broke the deal for me :/

I'm not sure that I have ever heard that it's unusable in GH2. Rock Band and its guitar follow open guitar controller standards, but GH3 (the game itself) apparently doesn't because it won't allow the RB guitar to work.

Here guys, straight from 1up:

Guitar Hero II's X-Plorer :

Rock Band? Yes
Guitar Hero II? Yes
Guitar Hero III? Yes

Guitar Hero III's Les Paul :

Rock Band? Yes
Guitar Hero II? Yes
Guitar Hero III? Yes

Rock Band's Stratocaster:

Rock Band? Yes
Guitar Hero II? Unknown, but unlikely
Guitar Hero III? No

Screw that. I was going to pick up Rock Band for the guitar and drums, and then get just the GH3 game. I really want to play Welcome to the Jungle though, uhggnh.

If they're supposedly open controller standards, does that mean Activision had to intentionally lock out the Rock Band guitar? I wonder how compatible the PS2's GH1/2/Rock Band guitars are with GH3.

Im worried about how easy the game is going to be, Expert really doesnt seem that hard :(

I can understand dumbing it down for a broader audience, but you could at least keep the Expert setting where its at.

Played the demo today at BB with two of my friends, and it was a fucking blast. The guitar took a little while to get used to, but after that, it was smooth sailing. I like the bigger size, thinner neck, and even the strum bar. It feels so much more real than any of the GH guitars. Drums were definitely the best part though, even without the bass pedal.

Just tried the demo at Best Buy and it was pretty sweet. Some guy had been wailing on the drums for like a half hour and didn't seem like he'd give them up without a fight, but I was fine playing guitar. Of course, I figured out about 10 seconds in that the strum bar on the Rock Band guitar was busted, so I had to use the GH3 controller they had hooked up. Sort of sad because I wanted to see how the new one compared, but it was still pretty fun. Maybe I'll check out another Best Buy to see if their guitar is in better condition, and to get a shot at the drums.

The Guitar Hero Les Paul works on it? fuckIN AWESOME! More reason i don't need to to play with the damn X-Plorer ever again.
