Official Rock Band Thread (It's out, bitches)
A harder difficulty is fun to me ;)
supposedly, drums on expert is suppose to be a real challenge. even for those who play the drums regularly.

News gets worse and worse for this game every day... no online co-op:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49541

To the disappointment of fans, developer Harmonix has confirmed that the Band World Tour campaign mode in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of the company's upcoming music game Rock Band will not be enabled for online play. "Band World Tour, and consequently the endless setlist, doesn't have an online mode," wrote Harmonix community manager Sean Baptiste on the official Rock Band forums.

That sucks, but seeing what World Tour mode is and that it's a hell of a lot more than just a setlist, I'm not surprised that they couldn't get that working for online.

No online co-op?

Meh.

It doesn't matter, if I'm paying $170 for a whole bundle you bet your sweet ass I'm gonna force all my friends to make use of the instruments soon as I get it dammit. I expect nothing less, but RAWK soon as I get it and until career mode is over (and even when it is...I still expect more).

I can say for certain that the drum is slightly disappointing. The way they show pedal (overlapping bar) is really annoying. I realize they did it because of size constraints, but they really could have just added in another bar and made it smaller.

I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually, but it's just annoying as all hell. Still for the price of the whole rock band collection, it's quite a bargain.

Uh....... talk about a major misinterpretation of the facts. There's no Online-coop mode for the campaign, but you can still play all the songs online in co-op............................

I'm okay with that.

Especially when taking into account that +30% trade-in value deal for games being put towards a Rock Band preorder at Gamestop. That's 68 bucks off if you trade-in enough stuff to cover the entire cost of the game, which, as it would so happen, I have after that Blockbuster screw-up. Rock Band and 3 peripherals for the same price as Guitar Hero III and only a guitar?

It may not be the more challenging (i.e. fun) game, but I don't think I can pass up that kind of bargain.

Quoting the article and linking to it is a misrepresentation of the facts? :p

Oh, and according to this IGN article, World Tour is multiplayer-only. fucking lame. I better be able to easily play bass or guitar and sing at the same time. Otherwise, EPIC fuckING FAIL. I mean, I'm getting this for the PS2, so the fact that it's not online doesn't really effect me, but not making it single player as well is just absolutely retarded.

your exact words. Just because you link a source doesn't make it right to put a false sensationalist headline.

What the hell? fucking horrible decision. What retarded jellyfish came up with that idea?
What the hell? fucking horrible decision. What retarded jellyfish came up with that idea?
Yeah, it really doesn't make any sense at all. It's kinda like Zoglog's continued presence.

I'm hoping that I'm wrong, but I really just keep hearing things that seem to indicate that this could be a colossal misfire.

There was a seperate thread about the lack of individual guitars/drumkits available at the outset, and I'll say the same thing I did there... this had better sell well from day 1. If a large box item isn't moving like expected, retailers are going to be hesitant about stocking more large items that complement the first. Just think about your local Wal-Mart... how much room do they have NOW, with GH1&2 still on the market for two different systems, let alone GH3 and RB for 4 different systems, and THEN add on individual items for BOTH games? Honestly stop and think about it for a moment. How many LARGE boxes that is. Retailers do not have enough room for all of this, and something will eventually have to give.

I don't want to be pessimistic, but Rock Band seems like a REALLY tough sell, as well. $170 at the outset... and by NOT releasing individual items at the outset, completely negating the idea of everyone having their own instruments, and I hate to think about 4 friends going in together on a copy of something that no '1' of them actually has ownership of. Plus, and I find Rock Band to be a great idea, but I generally struggle to get 2-3 people together to game at one time, let alone 4. Without a full band, how fun will Rock Band be? Rock Band is going to sell well to VERY SELECT markets, but overall... I hate to say it, I think GH3 is going to demolish it.

Like I said, just some opinions. I'd like to see Rock Band succeed, just because of the idea and the people behind it, I'm just incredibly hesitant about the amount of success it will have.

I hate to say it, but with all the news coming out against this game, I might have to cancel my preorder. I still have some hope and ima sucker for music games so il probably still get it.

Well, the number of licensed songs is supposed to be anywhere from 40 to 50, depending on what sources you put more stock in, so there could be 1 to 11 more songs left to announce, not including bonus tracks.

This isn't the nightly news on CBS, its a post on an online fucking forum. I'll give an opinion any time I fucking feel like it. Stop trolling.
Supposedly, on Gamespot's On the Spot show, a New Pornographers song was played.
I guess that would be pretty cool.
Supposedly, on Gamespot's On the Spot show, a New Pornographers song was played.
Specifically, The Electric Version.
I've come to the conclusion that Harmonix just doesn't know how to pick out a good song list in it's games.
After looking at GH3's set list, holy shit I agree. I mean, look at some of these choices from Rock Band:

Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly
Garbage - I Think I'm Paranoid
Hole - Celebrity Skin
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Metallica - Enter Sandman
OK Go - Here It Goes Again
Radiohead - Creep
Soundgarden-Black Hole Sun
Sweet - Ballroom Blitz
The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
The Hives - Main Offender
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps

Jesus fucking Christ. That's like a dozen fucking annoying songs. The only songs that even approach that level of crap from GH3 are Miss Murder and When You Were Young, and even those don't piss me off as much as the Hole, Jet, and Ok Go songs. And shit, I won't even go into the fact that most of the songs look like tier 1-3 from GH, difficulty wise. Oh man, a long sequence of GY chords, and THEN JESUS ASSfuck a sequence of YO chords!!!

I put in a pre-order on Amazon this morning - Electric Version and Orange Crush are enough for me. Hopefully some New Pornographers and REM albums come out later - it'd be nice for people to learn the lyrics to What's the Frequency Kenneth after all these years.

Honestly, we can bitch all we want...We're still gonna get this game. Despite it not living up to the namesake of "Rock" Band. I've made peace with that in a sense...but yah OK Go? Are you kidding me?! I keep trying to mentally block that out, but it keeps popping up outta no where. That's more DDR then any kinda rock.

I'm at the point where I've completely blocked out the fact that this game has two guitars and a mic. From this moment on I'm calling it "Drum Hero", which I'll pick up when you get get the instruments separately.

That, or I just hog the drum every time I play and just throw the scraps (i.e. other instruments) to my friends who are better at singing and suck at Guitar Hero anyway.

Final main setlist revealed

Last 4 songs:

Aerosmith - Train Kept a Rollin'
Fall Out Boy - Dead on Arrival
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
The Killers - When You Were Young

MEH. Run to the Hills=win, but less so because it's a cover, and the guy who did The Trooper was awful.

Well at least the downloadable content will be good...I was really hoping for Stairway to Heaven. Any idea what the hidden songs will be?

i started making a list but got bored... someone feel free to finish the rest cause i don't plan to.

So psyched for Electric Version. I'd kill to get a whole NP album on there.

My only complaint is Where is the funk? How about some P-Funk, Fishbone, Prince, Bad Brains?

I'm shocked that the Fall Out Boy song they added is "Dead On Arrival". It's one of their older songs, and honestly, it'll be fun to play.

I think I like the GH3 set list much more, not to mention many of those songs are in GH3 too; that sucks for us folks who want both.
I'm shocked that the Fall Out Boy song they added is "Dead On Arrival". It's one of their older songs, and honestly, it'll be fun to play.
Same here. 'Take This To Your Grave' is still my favorite Fall Out Boy album, so I'm excited about that.

All right, I'm buying into the hype now. I feel a little behind but from what I've read this seems like it'll be a difficult item to find for the holiday season. So I'm sorry if this is a repeat question but any good ideas where I can get one almost gaurenteed?

I'm gonna sell off both my Guitar Hero games and 2 guitars and use the money to buy this.

Soldiers blue on the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whisky and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
fuck yes. The one song I definetly won't mind screaming the lyrics to.

I fucking swear to god, I would trade those dozen shitty songs for The Final Countdown. They can fucking transcribe the keyboard parts to guitar if they want, it'd still be awesome.

Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
Aerosmith - Train Kept a Rollin'
The Killers - When You Were Young

These three = Awesome.

Fall Out Boy - Dead on Arrival

This one = Stupid.

Rock Band's setlist officially beats Guitar Hero 3's setlist now in my opinion. (given I am a huge Iron Maiden, Soundgarden, Deep Purple, and Killers fan)

I would have preferred "Woman from Tokio" over "Highway Star" though by Deep Purple.

You'd be better off just buying the full pack.

http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Xbo...61?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1193533283&sr=8-7 $79.99

http://www.amazon.com/MTV-Games-Roc...61?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1193533283&sr=8-5 $59.99

$139.98 just for the drums/game.

QUOTED FOR MUTHAfuckIN TRUTH!

Man, that would be such an incredibly fun song to have. Especially with people trying to do the best high pitched voice necessary to match the singer.
