Official WarHawk Discussion: **Patch 1.5/"Falling Star" OUT!**

I'll wait for some CAG reviews before deciding on this one. The original game was ok for it's time, but this current iteration looks like a weak Battlefield ripoff to me.

I'll wait also....I have a hard time paying $40 for a D/L online game.

I thought the beta was decent, but it was TO much focused on Air Flight....I like my ground combat. Some games were NO ground combat at all.
Is the retail copy available tomorrow or Wednesday?
Depends on where you go. The offical release date is the August 28th. Some places will have it on the shelves then, while others will have it the next day.

From someone in the IGN dev challenge (they got the game in the mail early).

Warhawk Servers Live NOW - 8/26/07
For those of you worried that there won't be enough Sony run servers do not be afraid. Incognito has just put HUNDREDS of official ranked servers for all to use. Every possible type of game has been created.

I have received many questions about how the blu-ray version installs itself so I will try to clarify - 8/26/07
The blu-ray disc version of warhawk will place a 789MB cache file onto your hard drive similar to the file resistance places on your drive to reduce loading times. You CANNOT boot your copy from this cache file. You will need to place the disc into the ps3 to play the game.

Gameplay and Balance Changes From Beta - 8/24/07
These are just things that I have noticed and does not represent a comprehensive list

-Island Outpost, unless my HDTV is acting weird, is slightly darker and more dreery looking than the beta.

- Pistol is less powerful and rifle is more powerful.

Overall, it seems to me that almost all warhawk weapons are more effective against ground targets.
Examples:
- A single homing missile will now take out a flak cannon. To take out a ground to air missile station one missile and less than one second of additional machine gun fire is required.
- Cluster bombs are generally more powerful.
- Lightning weapon is more powerful but ammo has been reduced.

Put down a quick preorder for the game at a local GameStop today, so I'm hoping that they'll get it in and I can stop in tomorrow afternoon to pay the rest off and be able to bring the game home.

NO GAMESHARING

Well you can, but it's gimped ya cheapskates!

'One time fee for download or use solely by the purchasing PSN account on up to five PS3 units, with no more than one activated PS3 unit within a 24 hour period. Content may not be used by any other account.'

So only your name and account can be used to play (like Home beta) on any given PS3.
Plus only one PS3 may play it at a time.

So whats the tally, Retail tomorrow or Wednesday? It'll be tempting tonight as its the start of my weekend and will more than likely be half lit by the time I fire up the ps3--- But I really need that headset, plus resale would be nice as well.

That is good to hear. I know, with a $40 download, gamesharing would've killed potential sales.

I'm going retail. I prefer to have something tangible (even though it is more inconvenient) and the headset is supposed to be decent (my current USB headset is a pain to keep wired, seeing as how my PS3 is pretty far from where I sit, and on top of my TV).

Started downloading right at 11:01, I'll sit here all night if I have to.
EGM score:

Warhawk 8.5, 7, 8.5
Was EGM the magazine where the reviewer said to subtract a point if it was over $29.99? I know I'm obsessed with this game, but it's certainly better than 7.

Wow, did they just kill this game for me by locking it to one account? I was going to download it pending reviews, but if that means other people can only use my account to play, forget it. I already have a headset so retail is looking pretty expensive, and I doubt the price will ever come down unless they unbundle it. Plus by that time, I wonder how many people will still even be playing it. Wooo!!

I'm going retail, too, pretty much because I have cash on hand to pay for it and I could use a good headset for Warhawk, Resistance, and the other PS3 online games.

If anyone gets it, can you let me know if it does in fact support 1080i. I played the beta, but that was only 720p, which means it was downscaled for me (since my TV doesn't support 720p).

i think it does upscaled to 1080i. I remember reading it at negaf

It was a part of that FAQ on the Sony blog that they're enabling the scaler chip so that the game can be upscaled for 1080i TVs, so you shouldn't have any problems with the game's resolution.

Does anyone know if this game can be shared? If so, I'm willing to trade 3 of my games for one download of Warhawk.

I own Lemmings, MKII, Guantlet II, SSHD, Blast Factor, Resistance Map Pack, Go! Puzzle, Flow, and Tekken 5 DR. PM me if interested.

Depends on your location and the stores. I checked here and only one place MIGHT have it tomorrow (wal-mart). Target is Wensday for sure and Bestbuy is THURSDAY (or the other way around, can't remember). But then again, this may just be for my area so I'd start calling around in the morning if so.
Is anyone else having problems actually getting the PSN store to take your money?
Getting the retail version myself but yes I am seeing people having trouble on the PS boards too. :(

I'm getting the retail version as well.

I was able to get it working somehow...I went in to my wallet options and ticked "automatically add funds" or something. Took me a long time to get this working...grrr....

Cheapy D, people on the forums say to just keep trying. Taking 5-10 attempts for some folks but it finally is going through. Hope that helps a little.

>>>oh you got it- NVM. :)

I'm all about getting Ps3s in the wild-- but damn, I think we should have a collective nut bust on a guy who looks like he's running a ps3 on a 15 year old TV. I think I actually saw some rabbit ears.

back on topic--- I really hope stores get it in tomorrow or Thursday retail wise, else I'm probably going to pick up Prime 3, and let this one slide,

if you think that's old, I'm playing it on a commodore 64 tv screen :)

Haha. My brother used his C64 monitor for everything until about a year ago. They actaully have a pretty good picture considering the age.

Hey Cheapy, didn't have any issues after I realized I was puting in too many 000's in my CC number.

I played a little this morning and can't stress enough how much we need to find a reputable server to play on. I was killed 6 times in a row .... ALL TEAMKILLS. It's amazing how many online games attract fucktards, I just can't wait to get in an play with the respectable CAGs.

Never played beta...

So how is the game?

I might have to get retail since i would be able to resell the game unlike the download version.
Shots of what comes in the package.

Sucks that it doesn't use USB Mini-B to charge but aw well.

>>>They didn't mention it but you should also be able to remove the ear wrap and swap it so that you can wear it on either ear (if it is like the current one that is out there already).
Why would they ditch the USB Mini-B :(

I like Mini-B

Maybe Cheapy could host his own CAG server with that super fast Japanese internet connection? Since Cheapy could still play while hosting, that seems like an interesting idea.

Like I said, I only played about 5 minutes this morning and started a LAN game last night just to play in the Warhawks.

Control of the Warhawks (hawks) will take some getting use to. I flew for about 30 seconds before enabling the motion sensing option and used that for about 10 minutes. Like many other games that use this feature, it's going to take some getting use to; but I can see where those that are good with it will find it enjoyable. My biggest issue is that I over-jerk the controls and fight to keep it on the path I'm heading, but towards the end I did manage to pull up and fly up and over a huge rock face within what felt like 5 feet, it was awesome.

Foot play seems OK, but without anyone to fight it's hard to discern the actual gameplay. I did see a little action when I was being TKed and fought agains a team member, but it seemed that the automatic weapons took forever to take him down (yeah, after 6 kills I fought back). I don't know if this is because I was shooting my own teammate or if it takes that many shots to kill someone (didn't get the chance to get into enemy territories).

Graphically the game looks good, not Rainbow Six: Vegas good, but it's along the lines of what we would expect from Incog .... let's face it, TM:Black didn't push the graphics either, but they are fitting for the environments. The map I played around on had huge rock pillars and bridges all over the place, I could see this environment lending itself to some sweet foot battles and some nasty air fights. My only gripe is that power-ups are EVERYWHERE making it rather easy to grab and go. It would have been nice to see some strategically placed (like in a tight corridor protected by a gun turret).

I will say that some improvements need to be made (which may already be in game) though. For one, there needs to be a vote option, especially to kick. Secondly, there needs to be a penalty (which can be enabled) for TKs ... I kid you NOT that my whole team was shooting each other like a bunch of asshats -- MORONS. IMO they need to have something that reduces your rank after so many TKs. I understand that accidents happen, but if someone TKs more than 4 - 5 times in a game they should be booted and penalized.

Again, I can't wait to have some good games because this kind of setup / environment can lead to some memorable gaming moments. Is it the best game of it's kind? No. Does it bring anything new to the table? No. It is worth $40 ($60 w/ headset)? Yes, simply because, at this point, it feels like a game that is good now and with the right work from the devs can be awesome down the pipe.

Just my $0.02, some people may want to give me change back ....

Multiplayer only? Good. Means they'll put more time into that made, and it'll be considerably better. 32 player dedicated servers? Awesome.

No singleplayer? Oh well, no big deal. If any one wants an equivalent go check out Blazing Angels 2, Project Sylpheed, or Panzer Dragoon Orta.

I loved the original Warhawk, but I'd rather have solid multiplayer that I'll play for months if not years. Than a single player campaign that has limited replay. And ya I know you singleplayer-only people don't feel that way at all.

Well the "other" headset used a power cable and plug to charge it, so I'd rather have the USB set up that we are getting here even with the extra cable.

Go back into the options mentu again tweak the motions control sensativity until you get it right for you.

Yeah, I need to do this; I really hope that I can find time tonight to sit down and play this for an hour or so .... but I've got a crap-ton of homework to get done before 9-15 (damn online classes).
So has anybody been able to find a retail copy in stores yet?
I'm going to start calling some places to see, though I think at least in my neck of the woods, its going to be hard to find anywhere that has it today.

I've checked some stores... they're not in yet... at least not in Miami, but I'm going to do some calling in neck of the woods.

PS boards say smaller, non-big name stores have them but for some odd reason the bigger ones seem to be holding off until later in the week.

BestBuy will have it "before 2PM" tomorrow when I look at their ad online.
