Here is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals listed and posted for this thread and similar threads. I will update this list as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.


Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!



How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.




Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. As said to kkt, I have spares of the MC3 & REO: F2 guides, if you need 'em.
 
Not a total waste, but like most people it seems I left without a GoW. I did, however, get the following:

RE:Outbreak 2 (2 copies, more left)
GT4 (2 copies, more left)
MC3 (last copy)
Doom 3 (2 copies, more left)

If they ever penny out that Halo 2 guide, my store has enough copies to build a house. :p Not that I really want one anyway...

Well the haul i had tonight was definitely a few drops back - and they had a bunch of copies of them. Unfortunately none of the current drops - maybe they never stocked up the new ones at all. Half the rack was Halo 2.

Why would you put money on cards when the coupon has already expired?


Well, I went to my local BB yesterday. I found one Gran Turismo 4 guide, and one Resident Evil: Outbreak file something. The employees apparently already nabbed the two or so GoWs that I remember seeing. My store actually gives the guides away free if the clerk is not a newbie; she just put two pennies into the drawer for me, because "they are supposed to be free". :)

Also, you can donate to the Red Cross at Best Buy, and they will match whatever you give, so that's better then sending it straight to the RC themselves. I think Wal-Mart and Home Depot matches as well, hence why every how long they will donate something like a million.

I saw the Hulk comics shrink wrapped to the games. I also saw a stand with a stack of Sin City comics, but I didn't ask how to get them, I just assumed it was a bonus for buying the movie.

little off topic but i heard a rumor (friends says a Best buy worker told him) That 70% or more of this money collected will now go to Pay for housing and other stuff. I know around here there is talk that we will get like 600 people and they will be given like 3-6 free months of houseing... Friend says im all for giving money for Food and shelter but they Wont give a damn penny to someone who is going to be sitting on their asses for 3-6 months when they know they get Free housing and Food so why go looking for a job ..

ooo and firefighters out there Look both ways before running out into the street to collect money.. last weekend i saw a jeep almost plow over a firefighter that ran out between two park cars just to get change from someone in a far lane

Funny thing happened when I went in yesterday.

As gas is currently $3+, I decided to wait til I was scheduled a shift at BB instead of going in on leisure. I walk in thinking "ah, I know we had atleast 1 GoW strategy guide." As I'm strolling to the media department, I see a Home Theater guy sorting through all the strategy guides and talking about pennies. Apparently earlier that day an employee noticed that the GoW guide was a penny and snatched it up, and the story spread fast among the store.

By this time I'm saddened, as the only one I wanted was GoW. However, I start using my CAGer knowledge and talk to the Home Theater employee.

Him: "Man! I wish I had a penny guide too."
Me: "You know, there are more in there..."
Him: "No way!"
Me: "Yeah" *picks up 2 Call of Duty guides* "These are a penny."
Him: "Yeah right, how do you know that."
Me: "I bet you 15 bucks that this guide is a penny." *rings up the guides, they're a penny*
Him: "Oh man!"
Me: *hands him the guide* "Here bro, you can take it. Only one I really wanted was GoW"

Then I start listing guides as I see them, Doom 3, Jade Empire, Gran Turismo, etc. He walks up to the register lanes and pays 7 cents for them all. Later on, I remembered Resident Evil: Outbreak was pennied out as well. So I walked over to Home Theater with a couple Resident Evil guides and he just hands me the GoW strategy guide and says "thanks, man".


Long story short, my CAG learnings paid off and helped me walk away with GoW, and a few new friends in Home Theatre.
 
Finally snagged a penny guide. Gran Turismo 4. I asked the guy to scan it and it kept coming up a $0.01, and he was confused, but then saw it said $16.99 on the back cover. I shrugged and agreed, then went and checked out. Got Ong Bak and GT4 guide for $20.00.

Obviously it's because I'm a friggin' idiot, gosh!! Thanks for pointing out that this is 2005. I would've used that coupon Friday to pick up DKg2.

They were the cool lenticular "guy-pushing-buttons" controller. You guys might collect guides and games, but I collect cool gift-cards (if they move or glow in the dark, they're mine! Target is the best...especially the light-up & SFX Darth Vader one)
 
Too bad my Best Buy started taking all the penny guides off the shelf, and putting them in a big cart in the back. I have seen some (poorly) shrinkwrapped to the games themselves, and they told me they just send the other back. Yeah right.
 
I have an extra shrink-wrapped God of War guide from the recent drop. I purchased a copy for myself a few months back. Given its value I'd like to do a two for one trade. Send me a pm if you have a list, and are willing to do a two for one trade. Oh, and I have most of the guides from the last few drops, including an extra Jade Empire if anybody wants to trade for that.

I wanted a good condition Jade Empire guide, but I only have Star Wars: Republic Commando, Madden..., The Urbz, and some others that I'm not sure if I want to keep. Oh well. Maybe I can dupe the newbie TRU employee next round. :)

I didn't know there was more than one SWGC from Target, but I'm sure nothing would beat the Vader one...it's the one where the lightsaber lights up and he makes his infamous breathing sounds when you push the button...

I was pleasantly surprised to find GOW, MC 3, GT 4 and RE Outbreak 4 at my Best Buy. I have an extra sealed GOW (among many other guides) avaialbe for trade if anyone is interested. Check my list.

In case anybody is interested, the Fry's ad in Friday's Atlanta paper has the Half-Life 2 guide on sale for $10. This might be YMMV. Not a .01 guide, obviously, but definitely better than the regular $25. PM at CC and get it for $8.50. The ad is good through Tuesday, 9/13.

Do any of your guys' Best Buys still have any GTA: SA guides? I was there today scouting for the clearance games and noticed that the big stacks for it has disappeared. They used to have Halo 2 quantities of them. Have these been recalled too along with the game?
 
I went to Best Buy today. It still had Halo 2 guides out, don't remember about GTA:SA though. Maybe they are gonna get reduced too!!

I was there today and they still had large amounts of them. Did find an extra God of War guide though. Up for trade!
 
The other day I was at a local store that's similar to a pawn shop, and I found four copies of the Goldeneye: Rogue Agent guide. Accourding to the tags they all came in the same day. :roll:
 
ALL MY GUIDES ARE BEING LIST ON EBAY IN LOTS OF 4 to 40. Most guides will sell for about $1 shipped. Buy a dozen and resell them for up to $50 in profit.
 
my BB didnt have a lot of guides available, just Doom 3 and Forza. I still have 1 Forza and 2 Doom 3 available for trade. PM me if interested.

I mainly want God of War, Brothers in Arms, and Gran Turismo 4.
