Here is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals listed and posted for this thread and similar threads. I will update this list as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.


Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!



How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.




Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. If anyone can get an extra Pokemon: Leaf Green, Metal Gear Ac!d, or Tekken 5 and wants to sell them for a few bucks, let me know.

I'd do $5 per guide possibly, which is easy money for some of you :p

Just shoot me a PM if anyone can do it... I'd like to get all three from the same person if possible.
 
Picked up some Xenosaga II, DMC3, MG Acid, Tekken 5, SW:Republic Commando, NFSU2, and Jak 3 guides this morning. Haven't seen any Mercenaries or KOTOR2 guides at any BBs around me for ages though. Sadly I went before the RE4 guide was confirmed. Maybe they'll still be there tomorrow.
 
None of the guides were out at my BB, but thankfully my friend was working. They pull all the guides and put them in the break room for employees to take, so he grabbed one of each for me. I'll check what he got tonight, and probably put a few up for trade.
On a side note, there were several $4.99 games on the shelves. Psi Ops, Tomb Raider (PS2), Castlevania Classic (GBA) are a few that come to mind. Not sure if that's been posted anywhere yet.
 
I just got back and got DMC3, Metal Gear Acid, Xenosaga, Jak 3, RE4, NFSU2, and Merceneries. I passed on a beat up copy of Fight Night. I'm pretty upset I didn't get a Tekken 5 and Pokemon, but too lazy to go to the other BB today.

Did anyone else happen to hit up the Emeryville BB before 11? I thought they'd have tons since they always had these just sitting there. I asked my cashier if someone had been there earlier and bought a bunch and she said she didn't think so. I'm guessing it was the employees unless someone else got there before me. Whoever got there cleaned them out cause I had found the DMC3 and Acid guides separate from where all the other guides were and the rest of the guides were all mixed up.
 
If anyone happens to have an extra Xenosaga 2 guide, let me know...i just ran ran up to my local BB, and all i could score was a Metal Gear Acid guide...

A couple notes:
They only had one copy left of RE4 and it was missing a piece of the front cover so I passed. I didn't see any Fight Night Round 2 or Mercenaries. If you live in the area they have tons of Jak 3 guides left (like more than 12, all sealed up, top shelf) that's why I got 4 to see if I can help out some of you people. Quite a few Pokemon left, a couple metal gear left, lots of NFSU2 left, etc)
 
They're gone already in fort wayne. I missed out since I was helping my mom stain this guy's deck. That was a big job. Atleast I got some money for that today. :)

I was really hoping I could get the Xenosaga II guide and maybe DMC3 and Tekken 5. I would really like to trade for atleast Xenosaga II. By the way, do you guys think EB or GS will penny out the limited edition Xenosaga II guide any time soon? I'd really like to pick that up.
 
shit. my BB, which is usually chock-full of penny guides, was all out. the guy there said that first thing this morning a dude came in and bought every single copy of all the penny guides! as if that's not evil enough, the dude then bragged about how he had already done the same at 3 other local BBs. what an asshat! I mean, what the hell does he do with all those guides, sell them on ebay for $2 ea? sheesh.

Just in case this dude is a CAG:
If you are the hoarder in question, you'd better hop I never see you doing this. I would be more than happy to bitch slap you on principle.

i'm guessing my best buy already threw these guides out. they even had the nerve to put over a new bar code sticker over a pokemon penny guide so it could ring $14.99
 
just got back from best buy, mine in Dublin, CA only had NFSU2, and a KOTOR2

the KOTOR2 had a ripped cover though, but i grabbed it anways. Got 3 NFSU2. Meh, I wanted a DMC 3 guide

That sucks. My BB is usually full of guides too but today's drops were weird. I'd usually be able to score 2 or 3 of each no problems and this one I only got one of some of them. I'm just hoping TRU drops some more guides soon, I really want a Tekken 5.

These Penny guides REALLY went fast. I checked 4 BB around the San Jose area and all where mostly cleared out by noon it seems. I am glad I went in the morning!

I am 20, kind of large, but I don't have a lady friend. I was at the northcrest BB at around 3:30 today. Is that where you thought you saw me?

4 BBs near San Jose? I'm not sure of all the BB locations down there, but by any chance did you go up to the Union City BB? I was thinking of going there tomorrow, maybe you can save me a trip. And if you did go there, did you see any of the $4.99 games?

I hit the Emeryville BB at 11, I was lucky to come out with a few guides. This set of pennied out guides has to be the strangest one, everything disappeared quick as hell.
 
damn, i live in san jose. was planning to go to the blossom hill location tomorrow. j-fever, do you remember any guides from that location that are still left?

He's looking at ~$0.50 in eBay fees, ~$0.40 in PayPal fees, $2 shipping if he gets DC (Media Mail)

So basically no profit at all. If he skips DC he makes about $0.60 per. (If my math is right.)

But he does have low FB so maybe he sees this as a quick way to build it up... Also strange that he made them 3 day auctions instead of 7.
 
Nothing at the SF Best Buy. I was there on Saturday and saw a few Jak 3, one Metal Gear Acid but all were gone by this morning.

There was a Tekken 5 that had a huge rip on the back cover this morning but was gone in the afternoon. I think there's 1 NFSU 2 guide left - near the PS2 accessories.
 
Why would anyone want to hoard penny guides of all things? Those guides are so heavy.

Hopefully they'll still be a few RE 4's left tomorrow, the only guide I didn't pickup. They had at least four. I'll try to grab few extras if I can to trade with others here.

Man something strange is going on with the penny guides around here. Perhaps they were preparing for the Memorial Day weekend and pulled the guides in advance? Thats something I won't understand cause my BB has never pulled any guides and the last time left the list just sitting there by all the damn guides.

This is exactly what happened to me... I'm 100% sure that Best Buy here had THREE Metal Gear Acid guides on Saturday.. hell, I even read one of them!

I go in this morning, didn't notice them, thought they sold out, came back here to read they were a penny and rushed back to Best Buy.

Where the guides were, they placed PSP movies and price tags in it's spot, and there were big gaps where guides should have been. My girlfriend asked one of the workers if there were anymore guides than what was here, and the guy said "What are you looking for in particular?"

She told him PSP guides, and he says "Oh, yea, we don't carry those anymore... you might want to try EB in the mall". Kind of weird that the store sat on 3 MGA guides since PSP launched, and now they are suddenly gone.

I went to the Union City BB today and all they got left is NFSU2 (many) , KOTOR (many), killzone, nfl street 2 and maybe a few republic commando. This is also the store that prevent me from buying any guides unless i brought something else.

Heh... so you saw that ripped Tekken 5 too?

I actually picked it up this afternoon because I was pissed that there were no guides left at that store. Not even the MG Acid that you mentioned. I really wanted the RE4 guide. Hopefully TRU has a price drop on that soon.
 
My Best Buy usually has tons of guides when the penny markdowns occur. I always grab a couple of each for trade, but this time all I could find is Jak 3.

I was there Saturday night, and the shelves were overflowing with the penny guides. Since this Best Buy always has them, I am guessing I have a local hoarder or just some employee that claimed them.
 
Ugh. Didn't get to my store today. I might try to run out to hit one of the stores at open tomorrow to pick some up. Just have to guess at which Madison store to try and hit...
 
I stopped at one of mine of the three in the area and they only had like 5-6 different guides, none of the penny ones. Im guessing they yanked them b/c it was all organized. Hopefully I get lucky tomorrow.

For the first time I got lucky getting the guides at BB. I was able to pick up:
Xenosaga 2
DMC3
MGA
They also had a dozen of Jak 3 guides all sealed up which I didn't get.
 
Had a great day at bb. BB had all the penny guides marked. Got: Jak 3,Tekken 5, Devil May cry 3, Knights of the old republic, Metal gear acid, SW Republic Commando, Fight night: round 2, and NFS Underground 2
 
I would be interested in a Xenosaga 2 guide and/or Metal Gear Solid: Acid guide if anyone has an extra of either of these and would be interested in trading for something on my list.
 
I have a Xenosaga Guide up for trade FOnewearl. I sent you a PM. If anybody else is interested just PM me I do not need any guides from the last few price drops. I need to check at home to see what I need but one guide I've been looking for that I'm sure no one has is the resident evil 2 and 3 combo guide.

I managed to grab a copy of Metal Gear Acid and Republic Commando, they were the only ones left at the West Madison store.

They were sitting on the floor by one of the employee areas, so I just waited for them to walk away and snagged them. They certainly looked like they were being set aside for an employee... so I felt lucky to get them.

there was still a lot left too. there were about 2 tekken 5's, 2 mgs acid's, a fight night, a lot of nfsu 2, and a couple sw: republic commando

hi alls, the fullerton, CA BB still has at least 20 penny guides left. word of warning though, i overheard 2 different employees saying some unpleasant things regarding the guides. the first one said he was going to buy them all during his break to sell on ebay and the second said she would buy them all for a penny b/c they were so cheap (even though she mentioned she doesn't play video games). anyhoo, good luck to everybody who goes there
