Overstock mistake: Neon Genesis Platinulion collection for $8.03 + tax
Yes, it was changed to some Street Fighter thing and now it's back to Neon Genesis Evangelion but now we don't even know what we're getting. It just says Neon Genesis Evangelion... nothing about a collection or anything.
Yes, but it is the same as the dvd set since they both have the exact same product numbers, at least it should be the same..

What is werid is are they not allowed to cancell CC orders

i placed 2 orders to see if any got though

Order 1 CC (i got billed within few hours ) and still billed

Order 2 Paypal ... i get this we didnt get your info within 4 hours so we cancelled your order BUT when i go into my Paypal account it shows 17,xx billed to my Bank account but the next day it shows Refund paypal amount of 17.66 overstock

so it shows that overstock accepted the paypal billing but then next day cancelled my order and refunded the 17 bucks back into my bank account

i ordered 2 and i hope they come be very nice xmas gifts (and very cheap ones..) i give one to my cousin and tell her I blew 90 bucks on this box set so she has to get me something nice when in fact i only spent 7 Heh heh :)
when you put the full price set in your cart it says the same thing
Well, that's good to know... maybe now I'll finally be able to enjoy the series when I'm ready to. But maybe I should've ordered two copies, it would've been a nice present for someone... though I don't know anyone who likes anime.
so the price of the box set has changed once again from 85.99 to 49.99.
That's about 40% of MSRP, which is pretty standard.

I was surprised they kept it at $85.99 when practically all their other anime selection was marked down 40%. Guess they were afraid of making another monumental price mistake.

that's weird, if they're actively still marketing that product that means they probably still have some left. I would've thought that their stock would have been depleted after this whole fiasco. I figure there's a really good chance they'll follow through with this, especially since they didn't bother to cancel anyone's orders yet.

It'd be nice if they did... but even if they didn't, I can't say I'd be surprised.

I'm actually thinking that's bad for our cause. If they still have more they are probably going to try to send up just Volume 1.

At $49.99 that still sounds like a great deal to me. I'd be tempted even at that price.

Tempted, but still on the fence. At $8.03, it's no question, I buy it.

No, they've cancelled orders. People have called them and told them they don't want it and to cancel their order.
So, they have left over copies to sell.
Make sense?

For the love of god, if anyone gets an extra copy - PM me!
Just caught an episode last night on [adult swim] and it totally rocked!

I'm glad to hear that you liked the last episode. A good number of people hate it and find it "anti-climactic" if you don't understand what's really going on.

SOMETHING WEIRD HAS HAPPENED!

I checked the product again, by way of the link on the front of the topic...and now it is 6 Disc instead of 7, and 100 minutes shorter! What the hell?

OMG I'M FREAKING OUT!

>_>

sorry bout that. Anyway, I just didn't know if they were trying to screw with us by changing the product again, slowly altering it so it isn't the same box set that is being released everywhere else on 11/22 that is 7 DVD.

That would mean Overstock could somehow get ADV (Publisher of the set) to manufactor a special 6 DVD set instead of the standard 7 DVD version. That isn't going to happen.

Err... the Platinum box set *is* a six-disc set, you guys. Any listing that says otherwise is incorrect. With the removal of the special features, ADV's new thinpak collections (Azumanga Daioh, Angelic Layer, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Wild Arms, and so on) are all minus one disc from their original disc counts.

Don't know if this has been covered (and I'm not about to scroll through seven pages of "will we or won't we"), but you're likely getting the six-disk thinpack edition. Which is still an awesome deal at eight bucks, but (I think) lacks the extra features and shiny foil.

Check it out at Right Stuf.

The one thing I don't like about thin paks is that they won't look as good in my Limited Edition Evangelion DVD Box, which was designed for "standard" sized DVDs.

But the sacrifices you make for a crazy deal. :)

Wholly cow is that image big - how do I make it smaller?

Also - if anyone is interested in buying a really sweet box for the anime sets then check out the site for a good number of them.

Says $85 for me.... :(

I already have the original boxset, so it's no big deal. Althought the remastered discs are tempting,... the Platinum box (shown above) is horrendous, and the thinpak is subpar, when compared to the original design of the first set.

How you can think that the Platinum box looks good is beyond me.
Just like RahXephon,.... although flimsy, the first box was the best.

GOD.
:)

Well that was not the original official Platinum box. This is...

Personally I liked the oringal Platinum artbox, but with this deal I wasn't interested in buying the other 6 volumes.

I can't see any of the pictures of you guys linking from rightstuf. If someone could imageshack host it, I would appreciate it.

They are both horrendous.

The original was the most profound,... and compelled people to buy it, based soley on it's presentation. I have friends, who were not even into anime, say, "hey, have you ever seen NGE,.... man it's awesome".
I'm like duh.... it's one of the martyr films,.... probably the sole harbinger,.... and they're like,.. "huh? I just saw the box, and thought how sweet it was".

:)

That was back in the day though.
:)
Now everyone's saavy,... and have made it their hobby, to know too much about nothing, and trivialize casual anime viewers tastes and conjectures.
That's why I stopped watching the stuff.
Damn nerds ruin everything.
It's like while playing WoW....... I TYPE IN CAPS BY MISTAKE AND I GET REEMED BY THE BIGGEST LOSERS ON THE PLANET. IT IS A SAD DAY ON EARTH WHEN A NERD LEADS AN ARMY TOWARDS YOUR DOOR.
They are both horrendous.
A matter of opinion. I like the intiial Platinum box, and the thinpak box, much more than the old, ugly black thing.

Profound in its blackness, perhaps. Yawn.

If you're able to be agitated to the point of not enjoying something that you used to just because it became popular, I pity you. That's a terrible reason to drop a hobby.

All of your posts in this thread come off like you're saying "Man, I wish I could have gotten in on this deal, but since I didn't, I'll try to tear it down in an attempt to rationalize my contempt and make myself feel better."

Somehow I didn't see this thread until just now, when the price is back up to $85. Oh well, it was too good to be true when I saw the title. :(
I can't see any of the pictures of you guys linking from rightstuf. If someone could imageshack host it, I would appreciate it.
Nevermind, I can see it on my sidekick. Looks pretty cool. I'm not sure what to do with my original NGE DVD set. Maybe eBay or sell here?

The thin pak doesnt look that bad to me...i cant complain..8 bucks for this is one of the best deals that happend to me since the BB and CC clearence deals.

the thinpack dvd set is obviously lacking compared to the regular dvd box set, but no one should complain at $8/set (granted we actually get it).

So what's the difference between the thin pack and the regular pack? As long as I see the whole series, I'll be happy. And even if I don't... I can't complain at $6.66 + shipping.:)

Everytime I see this thread and read "platinulion," I start thinking "TRAMAMPOLINE! TRABAMPOLINE!"

/wait for it....
reading about NGE has always confused me... like there are movies continuing where it leaves off or something?? does that come in the box?
The End of Evangelion is actually episodes 25 and 26. They are meant to take the place of the last two episodes of the series, since they recieved such negative feedback.

Death and Rebirth is a summary of what happened in the series with some added scenes.

The two movies do not come in the box. I highly recommend buying End of Evangelion after watching the series. It is a much better/satisfying end to Eva.
reading about NGE has always confused me... like there are movies continuing where it leaves off or something?? does that come in the box?
It's actually pretty simple.

The boxsets have episodes 1-26 on them.

The movie Death and Rebirth is basically a summarization of a various episodes and un needed.

The movie End of Evangelion is basically a remake of Episodes 25, and 26. It's sort of a king of all alternate endings to a series.

So, if you want it all, buy a boxset, and buy End of Evangelion. And watch the boxset first, THEN watch End of Evangelion. =)

Thinpaks have no extras - just the anime itself. Not sure how many extras were included in the original set, though. But as you said, can't beat the price. =)

In the very original I don't think it was anything more than character profiles (which tended to spoil the episode content on the discs if you read ahead), clean opening and ending, and...I think that was pretty much it. It wasn't anything to write home about.

Whether or not anything was added to the Platinum Series though...beyond me. I finished the original set and was happy enough. I only want to replace the first volume due to the fact that it was ass. The subtitles are barely readable in some episodes since they didn't put a border around the yellow text. Oh well!
Oh, screw the extras. Who actually watches them? That's rapidly becoming my new philosophy...
especially with anime... i mean outtakes? those are the dumbest thing ever

Ok, I'm getting lost in the jargon.

I was looking over at DDD... what's the difference between the $85 platinum 7 disc set coming out this month and the $115 8 disc box set which already exists... my initial reaction is "gimme 8" but then I wonder what the differences are...

Can anyone school me? Thanks. :)
