PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Anyone else having issues with hearing an echo of your own voice in chat? I've only chatted with one person so far and I know he is using the mono earbud that comes with the system and I think that is the problem, but I'm not sure. I'm using a Turtle Beach headset.

Also, someone tried to add me on PSN and it kept giving me an error until it finally just removed the request. I don't remember the name, but I think it was Xipher with some numbers. If you're from this thread and want to add me again, go ahead. If anyone else wants to add me, that's cool, especially if you're any good at Ghosts multiplayer. Name is in my sig.

I think it's the fact that they gave us a piece of shit 50 cent earbud with a $400 system. On a side note does the ps4 turn on to automatically update the firmware and patches if it's completely turned off like on the ps3? Or do I lose that function if I turn it off rather than putting it to sleep?

Have to use stand by...

Does anyone else find it pathetic that the ps4 lacks basic functionality like the ability to playback mp4 files off an external harddrive out of the box?  I use my ps3 for watching a crap ton of videos on and i was kind of hoping that we would get more file support like mkv and the ability to load subtitles from a file but no the ps4 is actually worse than the ps3 in that regards. I do have a pc hooked up to the tv but i would like to be able to get rid of that eventually or re-purpose it.

Agree, not many times do you see a new item do a step back in an upgraded newer item. Sounds like Soy is listening nd looking to add it all back in. It is pathetic, however I am just glad Sony is listening to us, and it seems they are truly listening to the fans and trying to get us what we want! That has been the best thing about the PS4, When asked about a feature people want, Sony's response is not no, just not at launch, with the ability to add it later. It sucks it isn't available right now, but it seems both consoles might have been a little bit rushed to get to market after so long that some features were pushed back...

Finally getting my ps4 replaced from Sony. Just talked to tech support to verify the correct address and stated should get it either Wed or Fri (damn holiday). So if friday would be almost 2 weeks since contacting support to get my coffin sent to me. Really hope it comes wed but we'll see. Would like to try out remote play at my sister's house and see if it would work which I would be able to do if it comes Wed.

Wonder what turnaround time people got who sent back to amazon?

Thanks dude, that will be nice and I can dump those junk earbuds they gave us to gamestop.
Let me know if they give you more than $1 for them. I'm never gonna use those stupid things. I don't even bother with online chat anymore I'd rather be left alone. On a side note i requested a $10 credit for the NFS price drop and they issued me a $10 refund for the game. So I got 3 games for $110 and sold 1 for $45. Not bad if you ask me.

Last I knew TIV was $5 for the crappy mono bud.

Well Ray Rice got a custom PS4 from Sony

Thanks @PlayStation for hooking me up with a PS4. #GreatnessAwaits

Anyway to make the cops any less annoying on NFS Rivals?  I'm sick of driving the freaking speed limit all the way to an event just to have them start chasing me right as i'm pulling up to the event

Target shows stock of PS4s in some of my local stores. I call and they say no. #@$@#%

The search continues.

I was in a Target the other day and overhead a lead telling an employee to always tell customers "NO" over the phone in regards to having PS4 / Xbox One inventory---even when they had a unit or two.

I think they just don't want to put hot holiday items on hold when there are people already in the store that potentially would be willing to buy it

I can understand completely. You don't want to set an item aside when it will sell in 10 mins. Also, if you tell a customer on the phone that you have an item and they come in and it already sold, that is a horrible experience. Some customers get raving mad about it. It's so much easier to say it's sold out.

Supposedly Walmart is holding all of their PS4s for Thursday night sale.. gonna drop them at 6, 8 and 10. I'm in the same boat as you. Looking all over for one.

My wife went in for me. They gave her a BS excuse that the stock online is being held for preorders. I am so pissed right now I can't even tell you. It's a blatant lie.

How do I know? Because tons of stores accross america got shipments today. People are tweeting them out left and right.

And because last night that stock didn't show up.

Maybe Sony can change their slogan to "The Greatness, Waits"  As in the number of gamers waiting for a console.   :)

I think in reality a shortage makes the item more desirable.  I know when the Wii was impossible to find I started looking for one.

My experience with Target is that they usually don't know what they have. On several occasions I've had to insist they go physically check because even their in-store scanner showed it was in stock and in the "back". Sure enough, when they go check they come back with the item I was looking for.

Started playing my XONE yesterday. Its pretty cool in its own ways(UI and its features) but I think the DS4 is the far superior controller this gen.

And for those that dont have both, the aliasing on the ONE will jump out at you after playing PS4 for a week. FORZA looks awesome, but on track you can see the jaggies on the car edges
That is interesting news. I'd like to see more info like this. I have a feeling the PS4 is so much more powerful that all games are going to look better on the PS4.

Yeah, I had her do this. That's when the associate said they were being held for preorders;.

So, how does the Vita work with the PS4?  I was thinking of getting the Vita to play my PS4 games on the go or when my wife is watching TV.  How does it work?  Do I need to put the game in that I want to play and then it basically just works?  Can play multiplayer just as normal?

This is pretty cool, if only for the stop motion.  Glad people still do things like this!

FYI, the on the go part won't happen unless you are fine playing Vita games, The remote play is only over local WiFi for good service, you can potentially do over other WiFi but there may be lag. I believe everyone with a PS4 should have a Vita, not to mention the amazing games it has. There anre't a ton, but plenty. Not to mention if you have PS Plus you get free games on there including Wipeout, Uncharted, and Gravity Rush and others. It is a great handheld, and I am glad that remote play will push more people to buying the platform and then maybe we can see more support from publishers.

I had the old PSP and never used it. I'm not really a portable gamer, it's just another gadget. What else can this thing do as I don't see myself ever purchasing a VITA game.

You will have ps plus since you will have that for MP on ps4. There is 2-4 vita games for free each month on plus. The vita is a great little piece of hardware. I mostly use mine to play games in short bursts while on the couch or before I go to sleep in bed. I played the Walking Dead game on it completely and it was awesome for it. There are going to be LOADS of indie titles in the next few months coming out and I think they are going to continue with the cross buy for many of them (IE buy for ps4 and play on vita as well, or vice versa).

With the holiday deals on them, really no reason to not pick one up if you have a ps4. Remote play over internet should work too for non twitch titles, hopefully get it try it out thursday if I get my broke system back before then.

This is wonky, so it might not REALLY be in stock, but somebody might want to try it. There's two listings for the PS4 at target.com. One says out of stock and the other says it is in stock. If you go to the in-stock one there is no Buy button, but you can click in the Quantity field and press return and it ends up in your cart and says it will arrive dec 3rd-5th. Worth a shot?

Same exact thing is true of X1, so maybe that's a further indication this won't work?

Unfortunately, it won't let you check out. :(

Really wish the ps4 would automatically start downloading updates when it's in standby mode instead of me having to turn it on for them to start

Are any PS4 games releasing before the end of the year?
Some downloadable games, sure. I don't think there will be any new retail games for 2013.

flOw, Escape Plan, Pool Nation FX, Tiny Brains and Doki-Doki Universe all have dates for 2013. Minecraft got delayed from launch, but I think it's still scheduled for 2013. There are some other downloadable games scheduled for 2013, but I don't know which ones are actually going to make it.

I know this is pathetic, but I am mostly looking forward to the controller change at this point.  Dumb reason to drop $400 on a console, I know.  But since I have the vita already, I can take advantage of remote play.  Now if I could just get my hands on a PS4.

Tomorrow night/black friday HAS to be it....  right?

I dont know if this has been said a few times already, but I gotta be honest man. I just found out that the ps4 cant play ps3 games, not even digital.  (you can skip the next paragraph and over to the third if youve heard the noise already lol)

wtf were they thinking? i dont wanna hear about all the advanced processing power being the reason, cuz its not the same magnitutde of a jump between ps2 and the ps3 next gen consoles, theres an improvement graphically, but nothing major, (and yes, u dont have to tell me, I know the ps4 is a super machine, def on paper and well see what programmers can do with it soon enuff...but  thats not my point; what is is that a supermachine of this power should be able to handle non x86 software, i mean with all its abilitiy, they couldnt make a virtual machine!!!!!??duh?! as an ex programmer, play devils advocate, too much resources....fine...how about just a simpler emulation, even if then it sacrificed some smoothness?! w/e....

i dont know if others feel the same but besides all the DOA consoles, this has made me very annoyed now because i wanted one for christmas, the only thing i was looking forward to, but now i dont know if its worth it for slightly better graphics.....but anyway instead of ranting, i thought id ask a question and be of some use to maybe some other person who didnt know because i coudlnt find an answer on future plans regaurding this issue:

will the ps4 eventually have backward compatibility, either with a hardware upgrade or software/firmware update? does anyone have any idea if that has been discussed or even planned?

thanks and HAPPY THANKSGIVING CAG
